I should reread Follow Her Home, now that I've reread The Big Sleep and can see how that book (with its heroine who is explicitly a Raymond Chandler superfan) is in dialogue with it at so many beats- the opening paragraph, the ripping off the bed sheet scene, the hidden not-quite-porn, her morally ambiguous choice at the end, and perhaps most importantly, its conceit of how much scarier Carmen Sternwood would have been as a man.
