I fucking hate the “uwu poor baby is Autistic he can’t help it” thing so fucking much. Stop using people on the Spectrum as a shield against GENUINELY CREEPY OR ABUSIVE ASSHOLES.
The information we have from the actress and others in the industry is that the “Uwu Harmless Sweet Autistic” fan is that he’s got a lengthy record of misconduct at conventions. That he’s well-known for stalking people online, for sending them specific threats, and for attempting to assault guests at conventions. That several conventions in Texas has been looking at banning him for his actions, because it puts people at risk.
This security incident was prompted, according to the victim, because “Uwu Harmless Autistic Fanboy” sent her messages explicitly stating he would “teach her a lesson” at that specific convention. He made threats that involved specifics in terms of location and time, that were vague enough to probably avoid direct Law Enforcement involvement, but were still direct enough to require the hiring of bodyguards for Convention Guests.
That isn’t Uwu Sweet Harmless Autistic Baby that doesn’t know any better.
Those are the actions of a man that feels entitled, that tries to hide behind a shield of a Diagnosis to avoid responsibility. That threatens and tries to harm people, but then claims he cannot help his behavior.
Meltdowns happen. Misunderstanding social cues happen.
But people on the Spectrum are fully-formed beings, capable of adjusting and changing things as needed. That can learn when told a specific thing is inappropriate, or that certain situations can trigger Emotional Overload or a Loop or other issues. That can respect Established Boundaries, that can develop coping mechanisms or a plan for when “X” happens.
They don’t aggressively and repeatedly keep doing the thing. Especially not when repeatedly told that it isn’t allowed, isn’t okay, or causes problems. If they know something will trigger them, they usually don’t actively seek those things out without some sort of backup.
Stop. Excusing. Abusive. Creeps.
Stop using Autism as a catch-all shield for shitty dudes.
