#justifying abuse

If I were Grace, I would send a pure, unmodified sample of taumeba to Earth with a note: "If you can't work it out, maybe you should've thought twice who you kick off on a suicide mission!"

I loved Rocky and I loved their friendship, but I hate the message it sends that a "greater good" justifies coersion and abuse. Forcing someone to die to save no matter how many people is NOT okay and such message should not be endorsed in a fluffy alien movie. This is only a tiny step away from forcing women to procreate in order to save mankind.

Then again, it was made by amazon, so how could it not rely upon a toxic attitude like this?

abusers be like: now that I've hurt you it's time to bring up my past, that conveniently only matters after I've done something atrocious that requires you to feel sorry for me so that I would be instantly excused, forgiven and assumed to be a good person without ever apologizing or feeling sorry for hurting you

He's intrusive thoughts. His whole job is to give Thomas the icky and sexual thoughts! So why wouldn't we help him out and give him ideas? It's not as if he's actually being hurt by this!

I think so many of these people (particularly those in the recent DDADDS Debacle) would benefit so much from doing a simple cost-benefit analysis of active harm done to creators in proportion to the passive harm implied in their content, and show their work. Even if they still come out feeling like their math holds, better than idling at "Right To Create vs. Right To Critique", where meaningful discussion goes to compost.

Or ‘feeling offended is the equivalent of harm done to me, so I have the right to destroy anything that offends me.’

or ‘if hurting one person will prevent them from hurting many others, it’s justified.’ 

Meaningful discussion was never the goal. it was always eradication. You can’t negotiate with evil because if you give evil an inch, it takes a mile. It must be utterly, absolutely wiped out to protect everyone. think of the children who would be corrupted by hearing evil things; we must protect them, at least.

And if they go after and attack and destroy a thing only to find out that it wasn’t so bad - even by their standards - after all? Well, hey. better safe than sorry.
