Super random, super quick, no ref gouache sketch, because for some reason, after a full day of not managing to get anything done yesterday, it got to 11pm and I got an urge to just paint...something. Might not seem like a big deal to you guys, but to me it's unheard of. Not the urge to paint, but the willingness to just go with the brushstrokes, without planning, without a vision, without a variety of references. Took me less than 40min, and I just put paint on paper and tried not to worry. I have no idea if I like it, but it was kinda liberating not to think, for a while. That's another goal for me this year, to loosen up and let go of wanting to be in control of every little bit of my work. Anyway. Here you go. I get so many artists emailing me and messaging questions sometimes it's pretty overwhelming. I'm talking like, hundreds and in the past couple years as I got sicker things piled up and I've been completely unable to catch up and keep up with them like I wanted to. I was over the moon when @beautifulbizarremagazine came up with the perfect solution in their new "Mentor Me" feature. It's a free artists resource where some of the most commonly asked questions are answered by a panel of working professional artists. I'm afraid I'm not very useful in some of the questions... Painting for me is a personal conversation and a way to play with the creatures who live in my mind. Wanted to paint the rainy scene on a watercolor postcard but found that the paper has gone bad 😱 there are horrible texture marks on the paper once I sprayed water on it!
