Day 9: Kaek the Mangled Mender
Kaek belongs to a shapeshifting species known as the Staelarnian Hybarus. Every individual’s very essence is contained within a bead-like structure. When this bead is separated from the body, the Hybaru is still alive but their body slowly dies. When the bead is damaged in any way(like cracking or chipping), their being is harmed in turn. Cracks turn up as memory or neurological issues. Chipping creates holes in the memory and inconsistencies in their personality. Shattering essentially kills them unless all the pieces are put back together or given to a mender. Menders are capable of molding the shards like clay and combining them so they’re whole again. In cases of chipping, they are able to give pieces of their own bead to make up for any lost parts. Kaek was a mender who was kidnapped by REM agents. Xe was shattered, poorly glued back together, and shattered again repeatedly before what little was left was stuck into a body that already housed 3 other individuals. This damage left them a shell of their original self.
Originally, Kaek was a talkative, playful, and bright individual. Xe loved to eat, a trait xe still shows. The body/cluster xe now a part of, collectively known as Quari, rarely allows xim to gain control as xe becomes mute, volatile, and completely irrational. Don’t worry, they get a happy ending. Xe eventually gets taken to a mender and is returned to xir former glory!
