The Outer Wilds - The Secret of the Echo

i always loved this book from when i was younger, and the last few pages always make me tear up a lil. i really find it interesting how they made a not-quite sequel to The Outer Wilds? like Anna Purna and M. O. Bius had come up with some other ideas and they were like "no no lets release the book again. with extra bits. AND 👆 illustrated planet maps" and we all went YES ANNA YES M. O. WHATEVER YOU SAY. also i just noticed this page is page 222 im gonna throw a fit

anyways this is my gift for the @outerwilds-events quantum entanglement exchange! i was to draw art for @twig-the-escaped-cephalopod with the prompt of "hatchy bringing the gang to the village to meet everyone post-loop"

i found the prompt to be a little tricky to interpret, especially cause I care quite a lot about how the ending of outer wilds plays out in canon, so i think i've come up with an idea that satisfies both my need to respect the ending and the prompt to have them all go to the village together!

this was drawn using calligraphy/cartography nibs and octopus brand write and draw ink! i've been playing aroudn with the vintage look of old illustrations, and i think ive gotten to a good point in my style exploration! maybe i should take comms in this style lol

You’d been down that road. You’d shut Pye out, interpreting her flippancy as arrogance when you now understood it to have been her way of coping with the immense pressure you were both under. You’d risen to her stress-driven antagonism with invective of your own, and by the time you’d been left alone long enough to realize just how badly you’d both handled things, she had left to visit the newly discovered comet. After she left, you spent more than one sleepless ‘night’ aboard the station alone, replaying every argument, guilt and regret warring with each other deep inside you. You’d resolved to do better, be better, be the one to extend a hand and try to make things right. You wanted so badly to fix what you and Pye had broken, to let her know that you wanted to try again, to work together once more. Somehow, your entire clan had died before you had the chance. You hadn’t even told her goodbye properly, simply encouraging her to take the comet expedition to clear her head and give you a chance to clear yours.

Had finished making the christmas gift for my sister, a wellbeing journal that is Outer Wilds themed as it's hers and I's comfort game (as much as it can be heart wrenching), with all the travellers.

Groose: I had to pick up Link early.  Zelda: That’s alright. Has he been sick?  Groose: No, not sick, he’s just very upset because he’s had a hard day.  Zelda: Wait, why did he have a hard day?  Groose: He took his two snail woodcarvings to school today, and he had the snails in his book bag. He put out the snails on the desk in the front of the classroom because he was so proud of them, and Kaepora, who was visiting the class that day, thought they were real snails that had come inside, so he threw Link’s snails out the window.  Zelda: Oh my goddess.  Groose: I know you are laughing, Zelda, but please act sad about it when we get home today.  Zelda: I’ll try but that is hilarious.  Groose: Yeah, I know. Stupid snails.  Groose: I’m trying not to let Link see me laugh.
