Romanova's classes had never been your favorite, and this time wasn’t the exception. In itself you were not very good at that subject, and otherwise your bad mood did not help much when such an occasion was involved.
You were sitting right in the middle of the classroom, deep in your thoughts, with your head down and your strands of hair falling like waterfalls above your ears. You were wondering about really meaningless things, your mind remained blank, until a "Pst!" completely distracted you.
You turned around and realized that the one who had called you was nothing more and nothing less than your best friend, Jonas Kahnwald. The blond boy smiled when he saw that you had looked at him, and it was impossible for you to deny that you had seen a peculiar sparkle in his eyes. As best he could, he handed you a small piece of cut paper, apparently the corner of a sheet ripped fiercely from the notebook. There, with a wavy calligraphy, it said:
"Do you want to come with me to the woods after school? I'll bring food. "
A picnic proposal in the middle of history class.
You smiled at the idea and turned to your friend, who looked at you intently for an answer; He received an affirmative one, accompanied by a radiant smile from you. He nodded and they both went on to continue the class.
[...]
After about twenty minutes, the school ring bell rang suddenly and Romanova almost finished his speech. They all got up from their seats and the chatter among the students soon appeared, not only in the classroom but also in the wide corridors of Winden High School. Like everyone else, you picked up your book and your pencil case, ready to leave the classroom, but suddenly a hand rested on your shoulder; he was Jonas.
“Hey.” He looked at you smiling and narrowing his eyes a little, a gesture you returned.
"Do you have food here?" You asked raising an eyebrow and they both laughed.
"No, but I left it ready at home." You formed a tiny but perfect "O" with your lips and nodded; “I can go get it right now.” He suggested and you raised your eyebrows.
"Uh, I'll go with you." You wrinkled your nose.
“Nah, not necessary. It won't take long, alright? Wait for me in the parking lot, they aren’t many minutes.” He denied and you relented.
"Okay, I'll wait for you there."
They left the classroom and accompanied each other to their lockers, it didn't take many seconds because they were a short distance away. Then, they did as they had planned, and with a knowing look it was enough to affirm that the plan was underway. You watched Jonas as he put on his classic yellow raincoat and left for his house on a bicycle, so you decided to go sit on the edge of some stonecutters who were outside the institution.
The weather may be better, but it was ok. It was neither hot nor cold, but the sky was surprisingly cloudy; and considering the fact that they had predicted an excellent climate for that day. Still, it was quite typical in Winden, being such a humid place that it seems to possess a ghost soul. Curious.
You leaned on the edge of the stonemasons and crossed your arms with your eyes downcast, at those moments you did not feel like checking out what's new on Instagram or seeing if they updated any Twitter thread. Maybe you were just wishing that your best friend would make his way back soon, but knowing him, he would never make you wait too long.
A few minutes passed and Kahnwald had already parked his bike in front of you. Tied up in the front, a small basket became present, you guessed it was the food so you didn't ask about its contents. You quickly managed to settle down next to Jonas, trying to find a balanced space for both of them.
"Hug me." He snapped.
"What?" You blushed and hated yourself a little because of that. You didn't even know why you did it, Jonas was your best friend and he was your whole all life.
"Hug me, so you don't fall away from the bike." He replied.
"Ah, alright." You shook your head and gave in, circling his body with delicacy and clinging to his body. You weren't staring at him at the moment, but you were sure that a slight grimace had appeared on his face.
Without further detours, they made their way to a pleasant section of the Winden Forest, choosing a point neither too deep but neither close to the city. During the journey, there were no words, although it is worth admitting that the glances had never been missing. You kept hugging Jonas, it was a light grip because you didn't want to make him uncomfortable in one way or another, since perhaps the most cloying hugs appeared once in a while.
You don't really know why you did it, or how or when, but you took advantage of the moment when they stopped at a stoplight to wrap your arms around Kahnwald's waist, tightening him closer to your body and resting your chin on his shoulder , without realizing that your friend had blushed noticeably when noticing the touch. To your surprise, he acted; With a slow movement, full of tenderness and gentleness, he caressed your hand with his fingertips, almost affirming the grip that you both had at that moment.
A light breeze visited you two, but not a single hair of you moved.
[...]
Jonas parked the bicycle with delicacy and got off of it, an action that you imitated after a few seconds. He started to pick up the basket, but in a slight rush, his gaze met yours and completely merged into each other. For a few ephemeral seconds, the world had ceased to exist, time had stopped, all the others had vanished.
It was you and Jonas.
But nothing lasts forever, so with red cheeks like tomatoes, you both looked away and pretended that nothing happened. They still didn't make a sound. Back to reality, you and Jonas walked to the chosen place, stopping dead in the shade of all those slender pines that made up the Winden forest. The blonde boy opened the basket and spread an extensive cloth on the ground, later resting the basket on top of it and observing the landscape. You just layed down on the cloth and decided not to say much at the moment.
"All good?" said Jonas, sitting next to you and looking at you with a straight face.
"Yes, all good. Why do you ask?" You replied naturally.
"Just asking."
"You are?" You looked at him and focused your attention on him.
"Why wouldn't I be?" He replied with a smile and shrugged.
"I do not know." You imitated his actions and chose to sit next to him, he contemplated each of your actions and you his. You looked away and saw a family of birds living high above, the mother seemed to be feeding the chicks.
"What is there to eat?" You blurted out, looking at your friend and tapping your foot against the ground of the place.
"Uh, well ... there are many things; apples, grapes, sandwiches ... what would you like to eat? He took the basket in his hands and brought it to you, opening the lid of the basket so that you could see its contents: what a variety!
"For now a sandwich ... Have you prepared all this by yourself?" You took the first one you saw and laughed with an eyebrow raised, taking a bite out of the tuna sandwich you had grabbed.
"It came from an afternoon of inspiration, so yes, i did." He showed his teeth and you couldn't deny that being happy was undoubtedly his best facet.
"This is delicious!" You exclaimed with a nod of approval.
Jonas just laughed.
[...]
You and your partner been talking on various topics of conversation throughout the afternoon, the basket began to empty more and more over time. The sandwich, plus an apple and a couple of grapes had already given you enormous satisfaction. Again you had lain down on the cloth, now putting your arms behind your head and lying it on your hands, while Jonas was walking in circles around the picnic.
Silence. He broke it.
"Hey." He murmured in the distance.
"Yes?" You answered.
"Look at me." He sat next to you and you raised an eyebrow.
"What happens?"
"May I hug you?" He whispered. That question had taken you by surprise from the blonde boy, who was still staring at you.
"Yeah, s-sure." He didn't say anything else and little by little he came closer until he was lying next to you. With the passage of seconds, you both were getting closer to each other, till your breath began to collide with the hairs on his nape.
The sweetness began to take hold of both of them and in a moment Jonas had already rested his head on your chest. Again the world had stopped, not even the squirrels that were walking there dared to make even the smallest noise. He put his arm around your waist and snuggled in, you could feel his breathing getting more relaxed than before. You took one of your hands to his hair and started stroking those golden strands that you liked so much.
"(Y / N) ... " he said in a whisper.
"Tell me." You answered in the same low tone as him.
"I love you."
"How much?"
"Too much, perhaps." He looked up at you and put on that puppy-like expression, his eyes flashing delicately and small smiles beginning to streak across your faces.
"Jonas, I love you too."
