Just Keep Baking #61 Kahlua Cake
Sul Sul, Gerbits. Here is a recipe I’m so excited to share with you today. Obviously, my cake-making has improved a lot.
Just to let you know, this cake contains alcohol, so if you want to make it without it, you can just use flavorings. I think the taste will remain the same.
We are going to be making a Kahlua Cake. The recipe will be down in the description. Feel free to check it out.
The first thing you are going to do is preheat your oven to 350.
You will need 1 package of swiss or dutch chocolate cake mix, 1 package of instant chocolate pudding. 1/3 cup of Kahlua, or coffee flavoring. ¾ cup of canola or vegetable oil. 4 eggs, 1 pint of sour cream. and the recipe calls for powdered sugar. However, I used chocolate frosting.
Place all the ingredients in the mixing bowl and mix well.
Pour the batter into a well-greased, floured bundt pan. Or two greased cake pans.
Bake for 50 minutes if in the bundt pan. But if using cake pans bake for 30 minutes.
Remove from the oven and cool for 30 minutes in the pan.
After 30 minutes flip the cake over on a wire rack and let it cool for another 30 minutes.
Once the 30 minutes is up, wrap both cakes, in plastic wrap and put them in the freezer for about 1 to 2 hours. To quote some famous people “It’s easier to frost a cold cake.” And I completely agree with that.
While the cake is cooling down in the fridge we are going to be making our frosting.
We are going to be following the Betty Crocker Chocolate Buttercream Frosting, but we are making it a little bit boozy. Again if you don’t want the alcohol in it you can just add flavoring.
The recipe for this is going to be in the description down below.
I wanted a more sturdy frosting, so instead of butter, I used shortening. Because it was an extremely warm day and I didn’t want the frosting to melt. And to me, there was no taste difference between a shortening-based frosting and a margarine-based frosting.
In a medium-sized bowl, you are going to beat together the sugar and the shortening or butter. Whatever you are using.
Stir in the vanilla and the chocolate.
Instead of the milk for the recipe, I used some more Kahlua, and you can use flavoring here, or you can just omit the Kahlua altogether. And stir that together, until the mixture is to your liking.
Now take out the cakes from the freezer and frost them to your liking. Have fun.
I hope that you liked this recipe. Feel free to check out the recipes down in the description below. Vadish., Dag Dag.
