“i am, mein liebling,” kaiser replies with a heavy breath, his eyes narrowing. he’s on the edge, annoyed with how the supposed calm conversation was going. “you know i have better things to do, and this conversation is clearly not going anywhere.”
“you can’t just—“
too late. he’s already left. once again, leaving you short.
you knew that engaging in a romantic relationship with thee michael kaiser wasn’t all sunshine and roses, but you certainly didn’t think it would steer in this unwanted direction so soon.
“i don’t what to do,” you heaved a heavy breath, letting your arms fall to the table and resting your head against them. “it’s like—he doesn’t even want to talk or even see me.”
the food your friend, hyouma made you had been long forgotten in front of you. it was a bad habit of yours to play with your food, and you were sure that your parents would’ve had you by your ear if they were to find out, but now you really—truly—can't help but to just stare at your food with a dejected frown as you prod at the cold meal with your utensil.
“and you’re still letting him get away with it?” he asks, his brows furrowed.
“it’s not like i can do anything, hyou. i tried everything.”
“you tried everything?”
there was a thoughtful pause, and the suspense is unbearable to you.
“did it ever occur to you that maybe he would actually put in the effort of communicating when you’re the person he actually wanted?”
that’s when you felt droplets of liquid against your cheeks. you were crying. since when?
the question was meant to come with good intentions, and you knew that, but the realization of it actually fitting in your situation just hits you like a sudden startle of crashing waves hitting your body all at once—tipping you off your balance.
“yeah,” you answer, pitifully attempting to wipe away your stray tears. hyouma hands you a tissue, and you accept it with a thankful, weak nod.
“yeah i did.”
if only loving michael kaiser came easy, then maybe you wouldn’t be in your room tonight, staring at the dimly lit screen of your phone, re-reading the message you’re about to send him. tear-stained cheeks, puffy eyes from the relentless crying, a hoarse throat that you find hard to swallow, and a heavy heart knowing what’s to come.
loving someone isn’t all sunshine and rainbows, but it wasn’t supposed to make you question your worth in the relationship, too. it wasn’t supposed to tear your heart into two and leave you to yourself in such a vulnerable position in a negative light.
if only it came easy, then you wouldn’t be breaking up with michael kaiser through messages.
