Anko Mitarashi - My Headcanons

Anko is bae. Nuff' said. This character, really ended up defining my taste in women, period, for the years to come. And I got reminded recently that, all my anime- or videogame crushes, all had purple hair. Coincidence? As such, before I truly leave the Naruto fandom (for now), I want to pay my respects, and tell you all, why I love Anko so much, and why she, much like Tenten and Neji, deserved better.

She is lazy, but NOT unreliable

She may suffer from the same kind of aloofness as Kakashi, but do not be fooled. And do not mistake emotional exhaustion for laziness, unlike Kakashi, Anko had several moments in her past, where she just ended up embracing and acknowledging, what she is, and who she represents, she didn't allow the baggage to control her, leading to terrible decision-making. Meaning, if she is being "lazy", in her case, it's literally her being a lazy bum. She is that way by choice. She never allows the trauma she endured to become her entire personality, and instead, powers through the day, doing the best she can. I mean, she could have easily "moved on" like Kakashi, but she never did, because she knows all too well, how dangerous Orochimaru is (screw Shippuden for turning Orochimaru into a complete joke, this dude did NOT deserve to roam the streets of Konoha, as if nothing ever happened), and just "letting him be", leads only to way bigger catastrophes, and more unnecessary casualties. She was fortunate enough to survive, but she is not letting it go, because why? So that more innocent people get dragged into his Auschwitz level experiments? No way. She will be there. Rain or shine. Just say the word. And on that note:

Morally consistent, and loyal to a T

She may have been Orochimaru's pupil, but unlike him, she never once sold her soul to the devil, the same way he did, eventually. She would rather prefer being a lazy bum, or a braindead python, than being a heartless monster, the same way her sensei was, and still is (anyone seeing Boruto as canon, drink bleach, please, and EAT SHIT if you are trying to tell me that, EVERYONE was canonically on-board with all this, the "it cannot be helped" mentality is just a flimsy thing to WIPE YOUR ASS WITH IT, WHEN YOU HAVE A MOTHERFUCKING SERIAL KILLER IN THE MEDICAL FACILITY, OR THE ORPHANAGE!). She may be air-headed, but she is not stupid. She will always be only loyal to those, who make her feel, less like a mistake, a "failed experiment", or a "potential satellite" (that title belongs to Danzo, dipshits) of her former sensei, but a human-being, first and foremost. She is anything, BUT a mindless drone or thoughtless killing machine, who says Yes and Amen to everything. If she has a bone to pick with you and your bullshit, she will not be afraid to call it out, but she will also never stab you in the back, unless you betray her first. And Orochimaru did, the moment he began using her blind faith in him against her, with all this memory tampering that he did, which still makes me ask: How did this jackass even manage to receive a green light in roaming around, PERIOD? So yes, if you're human garbage, she'd prefer throwing hands with you, than licking your boots, not even Hiruzen is exempt from this, and he saved her life. She never sacrifices her moral consistency and belief for anyone.

Independent as hell

All men (and some ladies) may swoon for her, but even with her natural trust issues, even if she were to commit to someone, she is not overtly depending on the validation of others, because she always had a mind of her own, especially during her adolescence. She is a lone wolf, or more like, a lone snek, while at the same time, really not minding working with others like Genma, Ibiki, Kakashi, etc. In that sense, she is kind of, a lot like Kakashi (two sides of the same coin), but more like, more in-tune with her own shortcomings, never having to pretend to be someone else, or hiding behind masks, or the achievements of others. She does, what she can. And if you want to stick with her, you best believe, she is not easy to handle. She is difficult. She is emotionally constipated, because of the Curse Mark, and Orochimaru's existence. And she can mask her insecurities behind professionalism, and just being extra loud, in that moment, like Naruto. ...But it's worth it. She is not just for one night. She can be your ride-or-die partner, if you're willing to be patient with her need for independence, and less easy-to-handle attributes.

She reads Icha Icha Paradise, just like Kakashi

If you think these trashy softcore porn novels only sell like hotcakes, because of lonely, miserable, and sexually constipated men, hell no, brother. Women like Anko, they also draw major enjoyment out of reading them. Don't let Kishimoto's misogyny, and outdated view of women get in the way here, clouding your judgment. Anko is just as much of a horny degenerate, like Kakashi. In fact, this is what they connect over in private... ...And maybe even copying some of the scenarios, presented in the book. Because, what's better than a post-shift reenactment of a girl, getting surprise-kissed by her lover, who may have worked too many nightshifts? And mostly because, Anko finds these scenarios so cheesy, cliché and schmaltzy, but again... She ain't opposed to having a good time with you. Jackpot, I say. She is just as weird as you are.

She is so tomboyish, most men her age, are terrified of her

A sharp mind. Not afraid to speak up, if you're potentially being a liar. And loving danger and risk. Maybe even doing parkour with her. Just because she is lazy, doesn't mean that she is just sitting in the sun to let her scales grow warm, or just gobble on dango sticks and beer. She is very active with missions, and a true party girl. And when I say that, I mean she loves it ROWDY. Always ready to throw hands with you, both in combat situations, and... In bed. She gets bored easily, and you better make sure to be a decent human-being, first and foremost, because if you already fail at that, you lost. She is not interested in men, who can't keep their word. She already went through that once. No need going through that again. And well, there is a reason why her wardrobe is more practical for combat, because she really ain't the "delicate kunoichi" archetype. If you want to play rough, she can play that game, too. And be happy to just walk away with a few bruises, if you give her bullshit, because in the worst-case scenario... She may bite you in the nuts, with either her snakes, or her mouth. She is ruthless, and foul-mouthed. And that is why we love her. She has high standards, and she will gladly remind you of that, but not in a nagging, typical "woman" kind of way, nope... She gets physical with you. Toughen up, big guy. You think Tsunade is difficult? Anko is a very unique breed here. Even if she ain't opposed to wearing dresses, and helping out other girls in the topics of romance, or interpersonal drama.

Very motherly in nature, despite not seeming that way

Despite all of the previous points, Anko, at least to me, really makes the clear impression of someone where, the saying "never judge by its cover", truly and reliably applies. She has strong motherly instincts, and is very good at teaching you as a sensei, too. Her methods can range from weird, to outlandish, to straight-up ridiculous... But surprisingly reliable, especially if you're a beginner. She just manages to make shinobi training way more practical, while also adding a serious parental quality to it, that most of the other Jonin, do not possess, without it being unintentionally manipulative. No, she genuinely cares for the kids, and absolutely OPPOSED the idea of someone like Sasuke continuing to participate at the Chunin exams, because of the Curse Mark, knowing how much of a danger he may end up being to himself, and the other participants. She feigns "ignorance", but deep down, she really wants these kids to live and smile, and to steer FAR. AWAY. From the frontlines, as much as possible. I mean, how could she not want that? She was basically a pupil of a giant piece of shit, who kept stirring the pot in the background. Who may have singlehandedly contributed to all the other villages having itchy trigger fingers, aimed right at them because of growing distrust, y'know? And who is to say, despite initially having gone with the flow of things, the moment she had learned that Orochimaru had infiltrated the Chunin exams, that she wanted the Forest of Death to be completely off-limits for any of the Genin and Chunin, limiting that area to just be a training ground for the Jonin? And yes, I count Anko as one, screw the databooks, they are useless. She was far more fitting to be the head of the orphanage, than Kabuto. For real, dude. Unlike these assholes, she never had any ulterior motives, yet she ended up being treated like SHE was the problem. That is just disgusting. And Kishimoto should really be ashamed of himself for this creative blunder.

After the 4th shinobi war, I just cannot see Anko staying silent on the issue. Regardless of what the other villages thought of Sasuke and his clan, before of Madara's and Obito's actions, as said before, she sticks to what she believes in, and if she witnesses injustice, the same way what befell the Uchiha clan, I cannot see her, of all people -- The biggest loudmouth of them all, even bigger than Naruto -- staying silent here, she would rather prefer pissing off the elderly from the council, than allowing someone like Sasuke, who had been lied to and mistreated, alongside his clan and family, all his life, to return home, only to have trash and rocks being flung his way. You really think, after having been treated no differently from him, because of her connection to Orochimaru, she would NOT feel for the poor guy? Regardless of what kind of belief you hold against or for the Uchiha, they are VICTIMS. Regardless of what you or I think. And the fact that the series, never had the balls to legit put its foot down and say "hold on a minute, don't get all buddy-buddy with me, just because the war is over, this war was easily preventable this time, had you jackasses in the council not kissed Danzo's ass, 24/7!", is honestly embarrassing to me. All that emotional meatriding, and you can't even tackle the core of all your problems. "It cannot be helped", my ass, Anko would most certainly not shut her gob about this. Sasuke used to have a Curse Mark, just like her, she may be very familiar with the Uchiha clan massacre, and it must have seriously pissed her off to know that Hiruzen just chose to let Danzo do as he damn well pleased. Asking the right and appropriate questions here:

"You tell me. Is it truly a "peace treaty", when said foundation purely rests on the shoulders of a singular genocide survivor? Sasuke Uchiha was burdened with the entire legacy of his clan's destruction, before he was even old enough to either drink the pain away, or even understand the politics that led to this outcome. We isolated him, judged him, and expected him to be an obedient, little lapdog, needing to bear responsibilities, that were never his own. His actions were not born from ambition or malice. They came from a place of pure, aching humanity. The human instinct to seek justice, where there ended up being none. Not for himself, nor the family he lost. And now, after everything, we are here, questioning whether his very existence is a threat to the "peace", we claim to defend, to prevent another war from breaking out? If the fruit is hanging this low, then perhaps, we should be honest enough to ask: Did this divide even happen because of an Uchiha, or the man, who clearly wanted them removed from power, because of the fear of competition? What does that say about us, or the "peace", that we enable this?"

Yup. I have nothing else to add. This is Anko to me. After everything she went through, I refuse to believe that she wouldn't step up for Sasuke. You guys wonder why there is so much Sasuke "glazing"? Well, then ask yourself: Why did the canon story decide to clown on him and his trauma, to the point where people like Orochimaru end up being treated more like an "asset", than a person, who clearly sought immortality, through any means necessary? And if you side with Orochimaru on this, then that says a lot more about you, then the ones defending Sasuke.

Her snakes are huggers, not venomous biters

They may have fangs, but Anko never uses venom in their bites, because she is more of a hugger, not a biter. Especially in her child, and she first met Kakashi. How she always clung to him, like a baby koala. Always licking his cheek too, when she smells blood. She is just a big, cuddly type of snek. Replicating a python, without it being lethal. At least, not to comrades and loved ones.

She attained the Snake Sage through honest means

Unlike Orochimaru, Anko did not attain the Snake Sage form, by cheating deaths, or having an internal "fail reset" button, the same way her sensei had. She just used the Curse Mark on her neck, as a makeshift tunnel, to make the absorption of the White Snake Sage's venom, way smoother and less agonizing. People claim "that's impossible", but I say: Screw yourself. Glazing a blond shinobi, who literally used Shadow Clones as a cheat code to render all lore and hard work, completely pointless. Don't kid yourself. Naruto wouldn't have come this far without the Shadow Clones, and if the technique is considered forbidden, maybe, there is more to it than just "oh, I can use it to learn faster". There has to be a glaring downside to it, that most powerscalers may refuse to acknowledge, because aura points matter more, than game-breaking techniques with serious disadvantages to them, outside of chakra reserves being one. And if Naruto is allowed to cheat, then Anko should be allowed, as well, even if, she was just being resourceful with the limited tools she had her disposal. And she did all this, because she had made a promise to Kakashi: To become the one constant in his life, that won't be dying in action, the same way his teammates and family did.

"You've buried enough people for a lifetime, Kakashi. I'm not going to be another name carved into your memory. If becoming a Sage is what it takes to outlive the battlefield, then I'll endure the venom, the pain, all of it. Because I made you a promise. And I refuse to become another ghost, that just lurks in your memory."

kakaanko thing

This headcanon cames to me when i was exercising so here we go

They would be setting up dates for their friends or something similar, keeping an eye on them from a distance to ensure they get together, but eventually, their friends would be the ones pressuring them to actually start dating eachother cause they're perfect match themselves.

I just think of them as a couple matchers i always think they push kurenai and asuma to make a move and start dating .

What do you think they gonna do in this situation 😳

Anko would take it as a joke at first and think that Kurenai's just being silly.

"Oi, you just want me to pair up with the scarecrow so you can have more time with Asuma without me, don't you?"

Kurenai would barely resist to bonk her over the head.

Kakashi on the other hand wouldn't take Asuma's suggestion seriously either but would be concerned about the man's matchmaking abilities.

We've barely spoken to each other and he wants me to date that woman?

Long story short, Anko loves sweets and Kakashi is a big ol' romantic fanfic consumer. Of course, they'd give in to their friend's demands and go on a date.

And then another and then another.

Because they contrast one another just the right amount. And they find the other relatable as hell.

Of course, they become official within a few months of dating.

So I kind of like Kakanko

Since Naruto in a way became Kakashi's "light/hope" in life you could say. I could see Anko with him since she has similar personality to young Uzumaki. Almost being female!Naruto really xP (not Boruto version tho). 

And since both of them experienced being betrayed and left alone by people they looked up to (White Fang, Orochi), they could understand each other better then anyone else in village.

I always also found that there is a lot of potential for intriguing chemistry between those two. Calm and wild but both witty and trollish enough and a lot of unexplored story. And it’s good reflected in fics that I will recommend here. Now mind you, it’s not just ships fics. If you just enjoy their characters alone, you will also find something here.

This is not really KakaAnko ship fic. It’s Anko-centric story. Plot is dark so watch out but interesting and quite realistic. It dwells on what happend to Anko after Orochimaru’s betrayal. If you like just Anko alone as character you might still like it.

Now original story ends in the worst imaginable place! But good news! Other writer (Jaded_nobody) picked up story and is now writing ending for it. Please send support for this person if you enjoy it. Comments and positive reinforcement is one of the best motivations for writer to keep writing the story!

Now THIS is a gem of Kakanko ship. This fic lay fondation for my interpretation of Kakashi and Anko relationship. Writer really has great take on them. Their interactions are reallty entraining and they nicely bounce off each other while slowly developing believable bond. This fic was the reason why I started to like this ship, with Anko being little playfull sassy boss-bitch that she is and Kakashi’s sarcastic deadpan wit. It's still being updating but updates are slow. So again, comment as much good things you can for writer’s motivation.

Overall all author fics with this ship are a ton of fun. So check other works of her.

The way author write it, is quite ambiguous and leaves many "fill in the blanks" stuff.

Naruto: Altered History by Geor-sama

Now this in not really Kakanko fic, it has only teases of the ship. But it’s good Anko story, it’s sells the idea of sensei Anko and her struggle of being a teacher. In that, Naruto was Anko's apprentice (his unusual graduation meant the teams were already decided etc) and there is a point where she realizes that she is teaching Naruto the same way Orochimaru taught her. Anko was very much invested in proving that she wasn't a monster because of Orochimaru in that fic which is notable given that some characters (like Kurenai?!) straight up hated her for it.

Very well written. Touches on Anko's insecurities on how she is seen by the village. On how she uses sex as coping and how Orochimaru ruined her up mentality and her mixed feelings about Sarutobi. Also fic mentions Kakashi’s insecurities about potentially being new hokage, his anger toward his father- which prevents him from creating connection with Sasuke to stop him from leaving for Orochimaru and so Anko decides to step in.
