He boinks a book at you when he notices you dozing off, even though you invited him for a review at the library.

It was expected that his presence at a study session you had organized would boost your motivation to review more. However, the sheer boredom of you—the library and staleness, with lamps flickering in—created by such a dull background was working against you. However, as you focused on your notes, fatigue set in, and your eyelids began to droop.

On the other side of the table, Karma was partially immersed in his world, playing video games on his phone. He watched you fight against the advancing wave of sleep without your knowledge. His mind, however, was unconventional and quick to find new approaches even in silence, so he selected some method of making you stay awake.

Karma smiled slyly as he picked up a nearby book and figured out its direction before throwing it at you. The book hit softly against your head with a ‘boink.’ The shock hit you suddenly, and you glared at him aggressively.

"Karma, really?" you cried out, massaging the area of your head where the book hit.

He stared at you innocently, as if amazed. He quipped, "Hey! You were drifting off. Just doing my part to keep you alert and focused." His reply made you scoffed.

The unexpected wake-up call worked. The interruption caused by Karma had effectively broken down your sleepiness, which was looming large over you. Even if his approach was a little absurd, your lips curled slightly as you realized that, despite the circumstances, Karma had managed to maintain punctuality and spontaneous stimulation throughout the study.

Who's your rival in academics, sports, or video games, but expect a healthy dose of rivalry.

Under the dim light of Karma's gaming console screen, you and Karma were fighting in a video game. The room was alive with the rhythm of powerful blasts from controllers and the overdrive sound of your playful outcasts.

When the unreal battle appeared on screen, Karma couldn't help but smile knowingly. He teased, "Are you prepared to go down this round?" He touched the control with his fingers.

You countered with a confident smile. "I suppose we will find out. I hope you've been reviewing what you've learned, Karma."

The taunting was competitive, with each of you attempting to manipulate and navigate around the other in the video game. Laughter and occasional shouts of victory or defeat filled the room.

Despite intense competition, you and Karma maintained a tacit understanding. Each of you was respectful of the other's gaming abilities, which elevated the game beyond mere contention. Each action received either a respectful agreement or a quick-witted look, as if to emphasize the importance of jest in this competitive environment where fun was the ultimate goal.

Throughout the game, however, Karma managed to gain a foothold on you in a spectacular manner. He declared triumphantly, "Guess I won this time."

"Very good Karma. But the night is just beginning, and you still have a long way to go towards victory."

Whom you two have your own language and gestures, such as all-knowing smirks and eye signals.

You and Karma were always caught in an unusual act of communication while inside a gathering. A conversation, laughter, and the clinking of glasses filled the room, but the two of you conversed silently.

At that point, a mutual wink or fugitive eye signal was sufficient, as was your own secret code that went beyond written language. Those who were preoccupied with other people's conversations were unaware of the silent little communicative move that occurred between you and Karma, during which a sense of trust and unity developed.

Karma suddenly poured an all-knowing smirk on your face as you two shared that moment when nothing was said and no words were required. This was a language born out of shared experiences, inside jokes, and an unwritten oath that would grow stronger over time.

Whether it was a response to the ongoing conversation, a lighthearted joke, or simply two people having fun together, the smiles and eye movements were enough. It became a testament to your friendship, like a secret code known only to the two of you.

Who flicks your forehead at very random moments, whether at a serious moment, when you are spaced out, or eating.

Sitting in the library among rows of textbooks, which you shared with Karma during serious discussions about upcoming exams. He raised his brow with a mischievous look in his eyes, taking advantage of the opportunity while you were deep in conversation with him.

He suddenly warned you, "Watch out!" before flicking your forehead in an unexpected but friendly gesture.

You blinked in surprise and laughed. "Karma? Come on. I'm trying to concentrate here!"

"Absolutely! Distraction helps keep the mind alert and focused.

The following week, during a quiet moment in the school courtyard, Karma appeared beside you.

He quipped jokingly, "More deep thinking?" and hit you again on the forehead to emphasize his point.

You smiled childishly and shot at him. "Am I not allowed to get away from your forehead flicks?"

"What's the big deal about that?" he inquired, an enticing smile forming in his eyes.

With a flick, Karma took advantage of even the most casual lunch you two had together in your school cafeteria, for example, when you were about to bite on your sandwich.

"Karma!" You cried, partly laughing and partly protesting.

"Can't get away from that, it turns normal circumstances into extraordinary ones!"

As a result, Karma's forehead flicks have become an integral part of your daily conversations. These playful actions, whether trying to be serious or comical in nature, made your friendship have good moments between laughs and joy as if knitted on quicksilver.

You and Karma were seated in a quiet nook of the local cafe, enjoying gentle conversation while smelling freshly brewed coffee and hearing distant murmurs. In that safe space, the "teas" and gossip flowed freely like threads woven for people's sheer amusement and trust.

How remarkable was it that, facing each other, you leaned forward, eager to share current events, even if they were scandalous. Karma began this exchange with a wink of the eye and in secret, initially sublimating it into a joke.

"All right, it's tea time. What is the most juicy detail about the incriminating rumor you have?"

As a result, the conversation became filled with laughter and animated faces. You would occasionally make comical observations about your classmates, teachers, and other characters in your lives.The teas shared were an entertaining mix of witty retorts, secrets offered and whispered, and bantered conspiracies.

y/n stared confused and a little annoyed at her seatmate who refused to take part in their paired project.

"nah, im tired"

"but we have to finish this"

"yea yea just do your part then send it to me, i'll do it at home"

karma rested his head in his arms on the table, facing away from her. seriously what did y/n even do? all she did was become his seatmate by luck and occasionally ask him math questions because he's smart. so why did he have to be so hostile?

"okay.."

he made y/n so uncomfortable. She admits she did have a crush on the redhead but has said nothing and done nothing to him about it, making his coldness much harsher on her.

during their pe lessons, karasuma made seatmates partner up to spar with each other.

y/n glanced at karma, and he glanced back before looking away and walking out of the field to skip the class.

"did both of you get into an argument?"

nagisa asked, knowing his friend was not the type to be so cold to someone without a reason. sure karma can be unfriendly and aggressive to people, but it was to those who did or said something bad.

"no he just hates me for breathing"

y/n sighs and rolls her eyes before asking if she could spar with another person.

"why would you pull that off?!"

karma is angry, but y/n was confused, was he angry at her for trying to defend their group when they got attacked by students who are much bigger and older than them? or did he have some grand plan and she fucked it up?

"akabane i-"

"what if you got seriously hurt? you wouldn't even stand a chance against those guys!"

he gripped your shoulders tightly.

"then what should i have done? you were getting kicked!"

you smacked his hands away and got up, brushing the dirt off your skirt. you looked over to your elbow which got scrapped when the students shoved you and winced a little at the pain.

"you're really a fucking idiot you know that."

karma held your arm to look at your wound, then poured water to disinfect it. y/n took the bottle out of his hand and stepped back.

"i can do it by myself, after all, you don't want to waste your time with a fucking idiot you hate."

karma was stunned, he knew he was an ass to her these past few weeks but she thought he hated her?

"what are you even saying y/n, since when have i hated you?"

y/n looked at karma incredulously

"don't give me that bullshit, you were so cold to me when i did nothing to you."

he was cold to her he knows, he was trying to avoid her. why? because he felt something with her, something foreign, fuzzy and warm. whenever he was with her his heart would like someone squeezed the life out of it. it was so annoying but he was always addicted, so he avoided her to stop what he was feeling.

karma sighed, "i don't hate you. really. its just,,"

he looks away ashamed of how vulnerable he is now in front of her. he combs his hair back with his hands in frustration and also to hide his red face.

"just?"

y/n hoped for a suitable answer as to why he had shunned her this whole time because it really did hurt her quite a lot.

"i feel something with you, its so weird, i don't like it."

karma says, eyes never looking at the girl in front of him. he couldn't bear to see what expression he had on her face, it would truly kill his heart.

"it's...ah you know what never mind."

he tries to control the damage that's done, he thinks that anymore he says, y/n would never want to see him again. y/n grabs the hem of his black jacket to stop him from avoiding her, something she should have done all along.

"no, karma, what feelings do you have with me. don't try to run away again"

y/n gripped tightly, feeling like if she let go he would be gone for real this time. she calls out his first name for the first time showing how desperate she was.

"i really really like you. alot."

ah. he did it, he admitted his feelings. it's done, whatever relationship they had is gone now.

"what? is that why you acted like that?"

oh my, karma is so fucking cute, y/n thought seeing his face flush even redder

"so annoying, i can't believe i feel so weak when i'm with you. i can't even fight properly. i can't even focus on anything in class."

karma kept trying to hate how he feels, perhaps its because he never knew what it was like to give love since his parents were always either overseas or at work.

"annoying? you are so stupid. you liked me for a month and you found it annoying, i liked you for 6 months you ass!"

y/n smacked his shoulder, then winced at the pain from her wound, making karma grasp her arm to check it. he looks up to her as he processes her words.

"6 months? u like me?"

"yeah 6 months of always looking at you and noticing what you do, i was so happy talking to you and then suddenly you went cold-"

before y/n could finish her rambling, she felt a pair of arms wrap around her, engulfing her in an embrace. karma held y/n tight and buried his face into her neck, his heartbeat beating too quickly he felt faint.

"i like you, ahh i like you so much, fuck"

y/n laughs and hugs him as tight, caressing his hair.

"you finally admitted your feelings, idiot."

y/n pulls away and cups his warm cheeks, smushing his face a little which made his lips form a pout. he furrowed his eyebrows at her action. karma leans in and pecks y/n on the lips, and she gasps.

"how dare you be so bold now when you were avoiding me the whole month, tsk"

y/n playfully chided him and he laughed before apologizing and then kissing her again.

"oh? i guess both of you are on good terms now?"

kayano nudged your shoulder and you smiled and nodded.

"now you have a chance to get him to like you, y/n!"

y/n looked at karma, who was with nagisa and sugino. and then her phone chimed.

Karma wouldn't say that he hated affection, but he wouldn't say he was overly fond of it either. If someone hugged him out of the blue, he'd probably punch them. 

His parents were never the overly affectionate type, so naturally he wasn't used to spontaneous hugs or kisses on the cheek when saying goodbye. It was all new to him when he finally started dating you.

When you came into his life, he'd have to catch you as you jumped into his arms excited to see him again. It was odd at first, but he grew to get used to it until he was eagerly looking forward to catching you and spinning you around with a fond smile and a light laugh. 

Another thing he found strange was when you would hug him from behind and stay in that position for a while. When you first did it, he stiffened up and didn't loosen until you whispered into his back that he should relax because you weren't moving anytime soon.

It was inconvenient, but he still managed to get stuff done. Over time, he simply stayed in that position with you, savouring your warm arms wrapped around his torso with your head buried into his back. He found it adorable how you liked to cling to him.

You liked to call him at least once a week just to check up on him since you went to different schools. They used to be awkward, with awkward greetings, awkward 'how are you's and awkward silences. There wasn't much to talk about over the phone, but still the both of you did it.

After many awkward phone calls, you had reached the stage where the two of you didn't mind the silences. It was comforting to have one another's presence even if no talking was involved. Sometimes you'd talk about your days, other times you just went about your days.

So, at the start of your relationship, Karma had no opinion on affection. He never really had it, so he can't say that he hated it nor missed it. 

But with you, he was introduced to all sorts of affection. If someone spontaneously hugged him, he would still probably punch them, unless it was you. You are the only one he'll let hug him out of the blue. But that's fine with you, because it means no one else gets to hug him, because it's reserved for you. And only you.

Class 3-E. Seriously, how did you get into class 3-E? You were incredibly popular among the students of Kunugigaoka High School, especially with the big 5. You were known as a genius in chemistry and biology and your superb talent in art. So-- why? The students would not like another incredibly proper student’s behavior to be tarnished upon entering Class 3-E. You were not that sporty, yet held a talent for swordsmanship, something you kept a secret from the academy for a long time, before finding out via your data folder. You always walk past the students in the main school building with no interest in their conversations, even though you can hear most of them screaming your name. Asano didn’t like how you rose to fame incredibly fast, the main reason being your astounding grades and ‘magic tricks’, as he like to call it. (it was simply biology, you didn’t get how he was annoyed with you).

The reason you crash-landed yourself into 3-E was something you were not keen to disclose. Only the headmaster, Mr. Karasuma, Koro-sensei, and Ms. Irina know why you were sent into 3-E. The students made quite a fuss about this, as well. You were quite annoyed by it, having thought of effectively shutting them up, though, you did not want to get suspended. The problems of others are not their problems, just meddling with the difficulties of others was enough to create tons of other messes that are too much to handle. 

Well, the reason why you’re in Class 3-E right now is due to one of the more complex experiments that you have designed, with the help of your close friend. She tries to talk to you every so often, but with your current position, it was proven futile. She avoids you during class hours, afraid that it may tarnish her (already) student reputation. You try your hardest to take care of this child you deem as your ‘younger sister figure’, and in turn, she introduces you to her friends as her older sibling. It leaves a warm feeling in your chest. You don’t miss the pitiful gazes she threw at you during the assembly, yet you brushed it off, ignoring her stares and the students’ mumblings, which you found out were about you and the class, and your association with them. (“I’m so sad that [Name]’s with them! They didn’t do anything wrong!”, “So [Name]’s part of 3-E now? Guess we can take out our anger on a stuck-up bitch!” and so on). 

Karma Akabane was an incredible combatant, that he knew. Although seeing Kunugigaoka’s prized possession (next to the gifted 5, maybe he thinks you’re higher than that) maneuver their way gracefully across the field, next to awe-filled students, he couldn’t take his eyes off of you. There was simply something incredibly captivating about you. You chose to use a simple baton as a makeshift sword rather than pellet guns to strike Mr. Korosensei, he was shocked at your movements, and so was Karma. He watched as you impaled the ground with your baton, and struck the alienesque teacher, albeit too slowly. What he didn’t expect, was the residue of the dirt stuck at the end of your baton to form into sharp, small splinters. And that simple action made Akabane all the more interested, especially after seeing your smug smirk at Mr. Korosensei’s reaction. 

Your biggest interest was not creating friendships, despite the numerous attempts to, yet you entertained them for a while. Especially with the art that you created. What caught your attention the most was Mr. Korosensei. Akabane and Nagisa couldn’t miss the curiosity swirling in your eyes when he talks, and more so when he evades class 3-E’s attacks so easily.

Karma couldn’t let it go. He teased you for it endlessly. You simply didn’t mind it and indulged in his teasings, letting a statement slip past your lips every once in a while. Obviously, when exam season came, you scribbled on the paper with no interest, despite the questions being altered to make the class suffer even more. Surprising the majority at your nonchalant behavior, when they felt they were being dragged by the devil himself to fight Cerberus. It was not that shocking to find the results of your tests, either. Almost all perfect, while you paid no mind to it. It was simply the usual, anyway. None of it interested you in any aspect. 

During the field trip, that’s when he knew he was truly captivated by you. Curiosity, perhaps? Maybe he just wants to know you better. Yeah, that. Reminded of how you easily, skillfully weaved through the attacks of the school delinquents to save your classmates, even threatening them with a voice so monotone it could kill, okay, maybe it’s not just curiosity. Without the help of others, you effortlessly took them down with-- again, another makeshift sword you found on the pavement, which was a discarded umbrella. Your footwork was incredibly precise and smooth that he thinks you predicted their attacks. And when Mr. Korosensei heard of this, he rewarded you with a single room for your peace and quiet. You were incredibly grateful, as the students’ chattering would disturb you from sleeping. But when a knock came on your door you opened it, seeing Yukiko. She shyly asked you if you are interested in their late-night conversations, and albeit hesitantly, you complied. It was a field trip, after all. You set aside your pettiness for a bit and indulged in their questions.

They figured out you have no interest and no experience in having a partner or love. You go back to sleep with a content smile on your face.

The time where the bond between you and Karma became stronger was directly after the field trip, it was probably after you saved those two girls. Interested, you handed him your affection and your attraction. It was something that you thought you cannot remove your interest from. He will interest you forevermore, your heart, and your brain. Karma did not know it would go this far. Sure, he knows you have admirers back in the main building, but for you to take a liking to someone like him? He was left dumbfounded. He let his guard down, being more open, and showing that he truly cares for you despite all that’s happened. A seemingly aggressive, violent redhead would do so much for the chemist that maneuvered their way through his heart. What he won’t tell anyone, though, was their reactions to Mr. Korosensei’s death. That was sealed in their minds alone. However, you introduced him to your sister, Klee, and she was overjoyed at how his appearance was. Even showing him a silly drawing she’s made for the both of you, leaving Karma chuckling and ruffling her head due to her antics. That made you smile, someone, other than Klee, was able to make your heart palpitate with emotion so foreign to you.

So Karma has always been a master when it comes to observation.

He usually uses a victim's insecurities to strike a weak spot, but he feels something different when it comes to his lover.

He first started noticing it in the beginning of your relationship- the way you look poorly at them in the mirror, your eyes growing dimmer by the millisecond.

Once your relationship improved and became more intimate, he would make sure to touch them every time, paying close attention to your reactions. He usually doesn't praise a whole lot, but they were always the first thing he's compliment.

Now, he isn't a liar. Yes, he may be good at manipulation, but he'd never purposely lie to you.

In all honesty, he found them pretty cute.

After a few months of noticing your insecurities, he'd start to interfere.

Every time. Every single time he'd catch you, but you started noticing the mirror wasn't as scary as before.

He taught you to move your eyes from yourself to him, concentrating solely on the man in front of you.

There was one time he'd been away at work as you stayed in the home the two of you shared. Negative emotions clouded your head the entire day with nothing to focus on aside from yourself and an empty household.

Yes, that made you crack up a little bit, but it wasn't enough.

It did get you to confess your feelings, though. They were hard to understand and came out in pieces, but he understood well enough.

"I'm not going to leave you over your breasts. They're tiny and kind of... adorable. I mean, you always seem so sensitive~"

And that was when you cut him off.

He let out a little chuckle, knowing full well the impact his words had on you. "Listen, hun. I see you perfectly fine as you are. Sure, sure, you think it's a flaw or whatever. It could be, but you're gorgeous despite your flaws."

Wow, that was the first time he'd called you gorgeous.

I actually love Karma's new body type. Contrary to popular beliefs, Karma's new body is what an actual strongman looks like. People tend to think it's a person with abs and ripped muscles, but in actuality, it's someone who's a bit chubbier but has a lot of muscles. If you look at the competitors of 'The world's strongest man' competition, you'd see that the Karma you're drawing now shares a lot of similarities with their bodies.

You're both right, Anons! When I came across the strongest men on Pinterest and such, and found others who said similar, I felt like Karma needed a change of body type. Because as the other Anon said, Karma adding fat and knowing how to actually train his body is a form of growth and adds depth to his character.

Karma was never able to cut loose, since he was supposed to be perfect in every way, which made him unable to confront insecurities such as gaining fat. Even though Dark! Karma was athletic and such, it was a front, to impress people - and it worked. It worked with enemies, with his very few sets of 'friends', and his family - except you.

You didn't notice it at first, since he played it off as a joke, and hid his insecurity behind your back. But when he realized he was gaining the weight, you could see him struggling to cope. He started to ask questions about "being good enough", "going to the gym more", and "sticking to greens". The way he restricted himself was almost suffocating, terrifying almost.

So you spoke to him. Asked him what was wrong. And one by one, he shared bits and pieces, embarrassed beyond belief. Yet, you listened, and for the first time - told him it was okay. That he's valued. That he's human, and not a machine.

For a few weeks, he kept asking "Are you sure?" and "Am I really okay?" for a while. But you reassured him, and built up his confidence.

And now, he's a lot better. He may not win all of his fights, but at least compared to the past - he's willing to confront his insecurities head on. You love him more for it. And he loves you more because you were willing to help him heal from it. To not shame him for it. And weirdly (to him) still love him for it.

He hates his flaws. He despises it.

But as long as you're cheering him on, he's calm. He feels secure. He feels safe; safe enough to take one step at a time <3
