synopsis: unavoidably, being so close to your lovers face many pecks were given here and there, with soft wavering comments that don’t matter at all or mean everything at once. this was one of those times.
a/n: (i am impulsively posting this knowing full well that i should read it over a couple times lmao !! also first time writing for levi the new love of my life as i binge watched aot from season 1 to 4 in literally four days. i’m not sure if i characterised him well but i lowkey love my oc in this shes very cute) (was listening to the miseducation of lauryn hill while writing this)
----
you rested your head between the crook of his neck, your stray hairs tickling his ear lobes. sitting on levis lap was one of your favourite past times. it doesn’t happen often, which makes it all the special between the two of you, simply his body encasing yours and yours encasing his. chest to chest, sometimes tucking your head between his neck your nose bridge along his throat while resting a palm on his chest to feel his heartbeat.
a silent intimate moment, only inhales and exhales to be heard between you both. levi would either rest his hand on your waist and if he happened to miss you that day he’d hug your body towards him where you couldn’t move if you tried, which wasn’t a problem. who would say no to being clamped to their boyfriend? many a time either one of you would fall asleep in this position, together or with one not moving until the other naturally decides to wake up again.
unavoidably, being so close to your lovers face many pecks were given here and there, with soft wavering comments that don’t matter at all or mean everything at once.
this was one of those times.
you giggled, hands resting on his chest and thighs on either side of his legs. levis traced his finger along ur spine.
“what?” his eyes would scan your face, his eyebrows knitting together trying to find out why you were literally laughing in his face.
you brushed your lips against his softly, so close he could count your individual eyelashes if he tried, “nothing, you’re just pretty.”
levi raised his eyebrows in disbelief, glancing down at your lips before meeting your eyes with a bored stare.
“pretty?” he grunted out.
you moved your hand to the back of his head, raking through his undercut up to the longer strands of his hair.
“yeah you, my pretty boy. complaints?”
you both stared at each other as if it were a battle. in the midst of a new giggle about to bubble up as you could see the calculating behind his eyes, working out if he liked being called pretty boy or not. his dark eyes began to narrow, before silently giving up, pushing your head against his shoulder as if to shut you up and tightening his grip around you. in his final act of defeat he rested his head back on the chair now facing the ceiling, ending the staring contest himself.
with levi leaning his head back his long neck was revealed to you. you rested your hand on the side of his neck, stroking gently as you both resumed to silence again.
the fresh scent of cotton consumed you as you ran your nose along his neck, peaking up to see he had his eyes closed. you pressed kisses into his skin, starting from his jaw, then down his jugular, making sure not to miss any mark, beauty spot or scar as you went lower. levi hummed in response, his hands beginning to lazily rub up and down your thighs. a sign he was enjoying the attention.
as you got to the collar of his white shirt you asked if you could unbutton it.
he lifted his head, opening one eye. “if you want. why? do you wanna fuck, baby?” he rasped.
you rolled your eyes at his crude phrasing, beginning to unbutton his shirt, his tanned chest being revealed to you. “no baby,” you mimicked back, “i just want to love you. can i?”
you wet your lips and began to kiss along his collarbones, not getting very far with levi pushing your head away from his chest so he could look you in the eyes again. his head up and face now inches away from yours.
with a pout gracing your features, you scanned his face to see a hint of him disliking what you were doing. instead, you got an almost puppy look from this usually stoic man, his head tilted as if he was trying to work you out.
“do you not like it? i just wanted to-“
“you can love me. please.” his hand went to caress your cheek, his thumb rubbing back and forth slowly.
“wha-“ you began to see tears well up in his eyes, his hand rapidly moving from your cheek to his to wipe them away before they fell.
your eyes widened as it wasn’t often, probably close to never the number of times you’ve seen your boyfriend cry. knowing he preferred to keep that side to himself.
in an effort to comfort him you put his head in your chest, to not embarrass him further by watching him. “levi, baby what’s wrong? i didn’t say something did i?”
he sniffled in response, not knowing why he’s so overwhelmed by your previous comment.
“it's not- it’s nothing” he stuttered out, his lips were a pretty rosy red, matching his cheeks and eyes from his outburst.
“my pretty baby” you pulled his head away from you, like he did to you moments before, but cupping his cheeks with both hands, “i’ll love you forever you know?”
levi’s eyes darted from yours to anything but you, not used to being so open with his emotions with anybody. you wiped the tears softly from under his eyes giving him a sweet smile.
“yeah?” you questioned, nudging him for a reply. “yeah. and i’ll love you,” he whispered back.
you brushed your nose against twice, moving your palms to his bare chest.
“can i?” he nodded.
you went on, continuing your previous mission kissing his chest, every mark, beauty spot and scar.

a/n: a new masterlist coming soon, or in words ... tomorrow !!! bc im going SLEEP NOW !!
synopsis: you already feel like you can’t get anything right. wasting your time training to become a hero, becoming an embarrassment for your boyfriend. upon hearing him say you’ll only ever amount to a sidekick (a useless one at that), you crumble and run, despite craving to feel his arms around you.

you had a bad day today. bad days didn’t come often to you so when they did, it felt like all your problems, worries and issues rolled onto you slowly at the beginning of the day, and all at once by the end. you thought you’ve gotten used to the fact that your grades have been consistently at the bottom of your class since you’ve started your new school this year, despite getting the highest grades in your old school. but oh, how you were wrong, if anything the frustration of it all was waiting to be released.
this time your recent test back had the lowest score you’ve seen in your school year, although you spent hours upon hours of work revising for it. you held your academic scores close to your self-worth, something you’ve always done. a habit you’ve had trouble dropping. so maybe it wasn’t surprising that this was your breaking point, the reason why you snapped when usually you would’ve laughed along.
you’ve always looked up to your boyfriend, bakugou katsuki. he and his class were known for performing strongly in exams and getting real-life experience fighting real villains. he always outperformed in physical exams and class exams so you knew you could always ask him for help if you needed it. but you also knew you couldn’t. you didn't want him to see you as a failure. he deserved a strong significant other to be proud of, but you couldn’t see anything in yourself that he could be. it wouldn’t make sense- bakugou katsuki, a future pro hero to have a girlfriend that can't even pass a class written exam.
you didn’t know how it didn’t get around to him that you were doing poorly. his furrowed eyebrows, his sharp narrow eyes as he tries to work out how did you last so long in this school, with him, when you're basically destined to fail. you could already picture the embarrassment in his eyes and the final words that he wants to break up because you weren't good enough for him. everybody was already thinking about it.
but for now, all you wanted was to storm up to his dorm and have him engulf you in a hug. only muttering minor details about your day and why you want his affection, and ignore the pressure that you probably will never become a hero, eating you alive.
that wasn’t in your cards tonight as you step into class 1a’s dorm building and you see the back of ash blonde spiky hair sitting on a sofa with his red-headed friend, chatting loudly about you.
“you and y/n’s quirks work great together, like two peas in a pod,” kirishima punched bakugou in the shoulder and let out a chuckle, “she could jump in at the end of a fight with a villain and restrain them after you do your part.”
“yeah, a good sidekick if I get desperate, which I won’t. i’m no bitch like you that will always need to call in backup when things get difficult. and if anything, y/n would call in me.”
a sidekick? you’re going through years at a prestigious hero school that produces the top pro heroes to become a measly sidekick? tears welled up in your eyes and you could feel yourself mentally crumbling. he doesn’t think you're good enough to become a hero, always one to ask for help or to assist another at the last minute. the strong resolve you walked in with was quickly disintegrating by his words. you wanted to run so he couldn’t see you cry - possibly never see you again. you gripped your bag straps tightly, ready to turn around and revert to your dorm. if everybody thought you were destined to fail weren't you just wasting your time being here?
“hey y/n! where you going?” you froze in your position at the sound of kirishima’s naturally bright and bubbly voice. flight and fight instincts were kicking in, a panic that you needed to leave now, but your feet were cemented into the ground.
seeing you still hadn't moved from your spot, nor answered kirishima, bakugou piped up, “oi, what’re you doing idiot? you just gonna stand there?”
hearing him call you, you felt as if your body released, letting you escape the way you desired. you darted out of his dorm building, fat wet tears sliding down your cheeks.
of course, you didn’t get very far as you felt a strong grip on your arm, yanking you back into their chest. the scent of caramel wafted into your nose as your face was held tightly against the black fabric. he felt familiar, like home but it wasn’t enough to stop your emotions morph into a wave of anger in his presence.
“what’s wrong baby? talk to me,” his chest lightly heaved after trying to keep up with your running and his arms trapped you against him. you wanted to close your eyes and relax into the hug, the only thing that was right in your day but you could only hear his words from earlier swim around your head.
“get off me!” you screeched. with all the strength you could muster you to pushed against him, breaking the grip he had on you. bakugou stumbled back from the unexpected motion, dejection washing over his features. the heights alliance building stood looming behind him mockingly as if it knew this would probably be the last time you saw it, the last time you'd be welcomed into it.
“what the fuck’s wrong with you?” he shouted; his arms swung in despair as he spoke. guilt settled in your chest, seeing the embarrassment in his eyes from your rejection. though in typical bakugou style he masked it with anger - you already knew fighting fire with fire was useless.
“what the fuck’s wrong with me? you called me a sidekick! I really must be an idiot, spending all my time on a hero course when all I'll amount to is a sidekick- if even that!” you shrieked back at him. your body rattled with the same weakness from when you heard him utter the words. limbs frail as he stared back at you trying to work out what you were thinking.
“what are you on about, I didn’t mean that as a bad thing-”
“what’s that supposed to mean then, why would I be needing to call you for help?” your voice got quieter as sadness replaced the anger. you just wanted his touch. a hug in his room, under his covers. not to be arguing outside his dorm.
bakugou stood in silence, eyes wide in realisation. he always held himself to a high standard, knowing his place amongst the people around him. but he didn’t exactly mean that directly to you. when he’s a pro hero, he’d be in such high demand everybody will be asking for his help. he didn’t see you anywhere close to the words you screamed at him. it was ironic because he knew in his future, at the end of the day he’d be calling you for help, for you to hold his damaged body after a fight, as he would to you.
you spoke up again from his lack of reply, “i-I know I'm not good enough to become a hero. what you said is true but i guess it just hurt for you to say it. and I-I know I'm not good enough for you.” you stuttered through your words, using your fists to wipe at your eyes. “you deserve another equally strong hero by your side, someone you can be proud of”
bakugou took a couple of steps forward towards your shaking figure, resisting the urge to wipe your tears and smother you in kisses. “y/n I'm not sure where you got this idea from that you’re not good enough? I was just being stupid and cocky earlier; it wasn’t a representation of how I feel about you.” he felt his heart break as this is the first time he became aware of this insecurity of yours, it developing into genuinely believing he was better than you. “and you’re being stupid to think you're not good enough for me- all quirks aside, as a genuine person, you are what I aim to be as caring, patient and loving.”
only your sniffles sounded from you. your throat still felt dry and your lips were cracked but the tears slowed to a stop. you shifted on your feet, stunned by the words he said. it wasn’t often he’d outrightly compliment you, usually opting for showing you the upmost affection physically. you refused to meet his eyes, darting to the flowers on either side of him. the warm sky from the sun setting from the evening was being replaced with the darkness of the night.
“you won’t want me anymore once you find out,” you muttered. you felt like a child, about to admit what they did wrong to their parents. you knew he was going to have to find out, so it was best it came from you, right?
bakugou quirked an eyebrow in suspicion, “find out what?”
“i’ve been at the bottom of my class since the school year started. I've been failing, horrifically. I don’t think I'm even capable of becoming a pro hero and I know how embarrassing it would be for you to have a girlfriend that can't even recall the basic steps to get out of a headlock!” the end of your sentence came out louder than the rest, the annoyance releasing in a breathy exhale remembering all the work you’ve put into the course.
silence came from bakugou's end. you screwed your eyes shut as if to protect you from his onslaught of insults you knew were about to transpire. but instead, you were met with a light chuckle, opening your eyes to see his shoulders shaking and his arms wide open towards you.
“can I have a hug?” a smile, a genuine smile, not like those overconfident cocky smirks you see him do. his sharp teeth on full display, and the crimson of his eyes glistening under the street light.
“what why? what are you doing?” you start to panic as he stomps over towards you and wraps you in a massive embrace.
“you're so stupid.” you're about to let out another ‘what?!’ but he continues, “i’m not with you for your quirk or your fucking test scores, idiot,” he says his words softly into your hair. so quiet, you try to control your breathing to hear him correctly.
“if you want to become a hero, you will become a hero. we can work together to see an improvement in your grades, I'll tutor you every day if you want.” he squeezed you tighter, “and I'm sorry about what I said back there. if anything, i'm your sidekick, I always want, need, your help at the end of a day.”
you relaxed in his grip, finally getting the hug you wanted from when you got here. his reassuring words simmered in your head and you enveloped your arms around him in response.
though you couldn’t help but ask, muffled against his chest, “I'm not an embarrassment for you, right?”
he scoffed, “of course not. I dunno how you put up with me shouting all the time, especially in public.”
you rested your chin between his pectorals and looked up at him. “it’s because I love you.”
bakugou grinned going to cup your face, pressing kisses all over. “i love you too, now let’s go to bed and next time you feel like this tell me. I don’t want you like this again.” his voice became stern at the end, that if you didn’t know him as you do, you wouldn’t have noticed the tenderness laced in the tone.
he grabbed your hand and led you back up to his dorm. ending your day in his arms, hopeful in your days ahead, confronting your troubles together.
summary: with a quirk allowing you to change others emotions, you decide to free class 1a member bakugou katsuki from the ongoing warzone in his head
a/n: this can be read as a prequel to my other fic babysitter !! i like this yns quirk and i have more fics planned with it
somehow talk of your quirk spreaded like wildfire around your new school. you weren’t sure how considering you weren’t even on the hero course nor did you use your quirk often. yet you kept hearing your name along with popular class 1a member bakugou katuski.
being in the management course meant that you were out the scrutinizing public eye, not necessary to be in the media and also meaning you never had to take part in school events such as the ua sports festival. you never had the passion to become a pro hero, more interested in managing heroes and helping run an agency.
a little pink fist clamped down on your arm, the grip stronger than it looked. the stranger yanked you from your seat in the cafeteria, your chopsticks yet to be snapped. your friends at the table frowned but once seeing the two people pulling you away, shrugged, assuming it’s probably about your newfound fame in the school.
the girl released your arm, letting out a soft giggle realising you were still chewing your lunch. the three of you stood together in the empty corridor outside the classrooms. you recognised them both instantly from all the news about this class fighting real villains, members of class 1a. ashido mina grinned at you, her pink hair unruly, prettily framing her face. beside her was asui tsuyu, another member of the class. her eyes wide, staring at you unapologetically, her tongue hanging from her mouth.
“erm hello?” you quirked your brow towards the pair in front of you.
“oh my god, sorry for pulling you out your seat, we wanted to ask you a question, I'm ashido mina by the way and this is my friend asui tsuyu”, mina released a massive grin, her head motioning to the frog-like human beside you, “we heard you have a quirk that could be useful for our friend.”
your brows furrowed, hesitant, “are you sure? i don’t use my quirk that much from being in the management course and i don’t want to get mixed up in hero business quite yet-”
tsuyu chuckled and let out a ribbit, “it’s actually to do with our very annoying very angry class member that needs some... assistance and your quirk would help.”
you already didn’t like the sound of this. you’ve already witnessed the harm your quirk could do on others, through your misuse of it. being able to change people's emotions from looking at them in the eye came to your advantage when you were younger. you always found it difficult to make friends, feeling like you were on the boring side. but making people always laugh at your jokes didn’t sound too bad. what harm could come from that? but once all your new friends found out you were changing their emotions to be what you wanted, they felt violated, a lack of privacy. shouting at you to get out their head, was anything they felt around you real? this led them to believe they always hated you, you just made them think they didn’t.
since then you’ve always been cautious when using your quirk, especially for your benefit. you didn’t want people to think you were manipulating them or changing their emotions without them knowing.
you started shaking your head, bowing, ‘sorry, I don’t think I'll be of any help.’
stepping away from them, the two girls stepped towards you.
‘it’s our classmate bakugou katsuki, you’ve probably seen him around, blonde spiky hair, never wears a tie, always angry and usually shouting.’ ashido described, her eyes glistening.
‘and his quirk doesn’t help, setting off explosions at whoever makes him mad’ tsuyu followed on, ‘we were wondering if you could calm him down, like stare at him before a lesson starts, so in class he’s quiet.’
‘yeah! it will probably make him feel better, to have his head calm for a minute. He’s always thinking about the next step to make him a pro hero.’
the two continued describing this stranger, trying to convince you of calming down said angry boy for a peaceful lesson for the rest of the class. but you didn’t know him at all. how will he act once he finds out a random girl changed his emotions without him knowing? it seemed wrong to you and you certainly didn’t want a repeat of the past.
“-one-time kaminari made a joke about how he could never save children because he’d start cussing them to shut up and he almost blasted him out the building!” they continued, a mixture of humour but worry on their faces thinking back to the situation.
“i’m sorry but i can't use my quirk on people without them knowing, it's against my morals” you shook your head, feeling bad letting them down, ‘and by the sound of this boy, I don’t think he would want anybody in his head’
ashido let a soft smile cover her face, ‘it’s okay love, though if you ever change your mind, come to us, it will help out the whole class!’
you did a little bow and turned away from them. this bakugou character probably wasn’t as bad as they said he was right? you thought, but oh how you were wrong.
the aftermath of bakugou’s presence kept being seen around you for the next couple weeks. one time you were speed walking down the corridor late to your class, completely distracted, a door flew open. you flew back from the impact landing on your bottom in the corridor. wafts of charcoal black smoke flooded out of it, a blonde spiky-haired bakugou appearing as it cleared. he glanced at you through the doorway for a second before giving a green-headed boy a death glare, that's what you get you stupid deku! i know something is going on with you getting this sudden quirk!’
the next time you saw bakugou was him eerily talking to a crowd of angry students outside his classroom. this was different from the all the other times as he was the quiet one this time, saying few words; that he will be on the top despite what they’re all saying. you stared from afar as you admired his bravery to say such strong confident words in front of a crowd that was basically dying to defeat him in the upcoming sports festival. he strolled through the crowd, the people parting to let him by. his scowl was permanently etched onto his face, his trousers baggy on his waist and his bag on his shoulders. with his hands stuffed in his pockets and his back slouched you made eye contact with him as he walked past you.
your friend beside you focused on the scene in front of you both, the rest of class 1a trying to redeem themselves to the crowd.
‘at least he wasn’t the one doing all the shouting’, your friend beside you giggled watching on.
‘he was the one who caused it though’, you went to plug your ears as the decibels rose, looking back to see bakugou’s figure gone.
though this time you saw bakugou was unlike all the other times. you were on your way back to the dorms after a quick visit home to see your family across town. it was pitch black out, way past midnight, only the street lights on to comfort you. usually, you felt comfort from the darkness but now with the symbol of peace no longer, you became wearier in your movements and you knew all of japan did too. your legs ached walking from the train station to the school, you weren't sure how pro heroes managed to fight for hours on end, seven days a week. must be so tiring physically and emotionally.
as you walked you began to hear sniffles coming from behind one of the dorm buildings. with nobody in sight, you walked towards where the sound was coming from. your curiosity got the better of you as you hoped it wasn’t a random villain out to attack your school at night. the sniffles got louder as you walked, muffled mutters coming from the figure. the figure appeared to be dressed all in black sitting at on the edge of the pavement with their head in their hands. the body seemed to shake with every sniffle, which juxtaposed the muscular build you could make out.
you approached the figure, your stance timid and unsure. you didn’t know whether they knew you were behind them, so from a comfortable distance you let out a soft, ‘hello, would you like some hel-’
‘fuck off’ the gruff voice interrupted. sadness tainted his words, the anger and fear he wanted to ward off the stranger, absent. his fists wiped at his eyes violently, as if he was beating himself up for crying. he didn’t turn to look at you, he didn’t do anything to acknowledge your presence. if someone said you imagined the profanity that came from the boy in front of you, you would have believed them.
you didn’t move from your position and tried again, ‘are you sure you don’t want me to get anybody? Are you hurt?’
‘i said fuck off woman, and I meant it. leave me alone.’ you prepared yourself to leave, not used to rejection so heavily, though you knew you couldn’t let this go.
you let out a sigh and span again to face him, ‘i can help you, my quirk can help?’
he turned to face you, still sat at the edge of the pavement. in his black tank top, he showed no effect from the harsh breeze that wafted through the street. his vermillion pupils locked onto your worried ones. the usual white of his eyes was completely bloodshot from the crying, his whole eye a shocking red. you shivered from the wind, or perhaps his piercing stare, as if you disgusted him by offering your quirk. how could you, a stranger, help him?
you recognised who the boy was - the infamous bakugou katsuki. the angry blonde you’ve been seeing these past few weeks. the now sad distressed boy in front of you was nothing like the character the two class 1A girls mentioned to you. despite this being your first conversation, it broke your heart to see someone so not themselves. he let out a harsh fake laugh, ‘your quirk... help me? what could you possibly do, eh?’
embarrassment washed through you as you thought how superficial your quirk can be, just temporary emotion. it wouldn’t be able to solve the problem of why he’s so upset. ‘i-i can change people's emotions by looking at them. it lasts for a few hours, so you could stop feeling like this and go to bed?’ you said it as if you were unsure of your quirk. despite him being the vulnerable one, crying a few minutes ago, suddenly you felt you were the one needing help.
in response, bakugou continued staring at you, frowned and faced forward again. he thought through it. he would love to not feel like this for a few moments, no guilt, no shame, for destroying the symbol of peace. but he didn’t want anybody to help him, he didn’t need to be saved, he didn’t want to be weak. you were about to speak up again, tell him sorry for bothering him and continue your walk back.
‘how does it work?’ he muttered through gritted teeth; his eyes closed as if he was ashamed to say this to you.
you sat on the pavement beside him, leaving a meter apart. ‘i just look you in the eyes and think about what i want you to feel. it’s similar to mind control but I'm not exactly controlling your mind because you still have your thoughts, i just change your emotions.’
there was a moment's silence as you could imagine the gears grinding through his head deciding whether he wants to go through with it or not. you decided to speak up again, ‘i don’t know what’s bothering you but in times when I've felt so overwhelmed in emotion, i would have loved to use my quirk on myself but I can’t’, an awkward laugh escaped you.
‘it sounds as if you’re advertising your shitty quirk to me,’ bakugou grunted, looking at his sweaty palms as if they were the most interesting thing around. ‘fine, let's do it. but if you tell anybody you did this for me, i'll kill you’
now it was your turn to be stubborn. if he wants help, he doesn’t need to be rude about it. you got into the position to face him and prepare to look him in his eyes, ‘i’m fine with doing this for you but don’t be rude about it.’
he shifted his body now to look at you, properly in your eyes. Your hair was out of place due to the wind and he could see you slightly shiver. your lips had a pink tint to them as you spoke and you hugged your knees to your chest as you tried to give him the utmost patience. he never paid attention to girls at school, as his goal has always been to become the number one hero. but as he stared in your glassy eyes all he could think of was you. you were pretty, he’d admit and his mind flooded with unanswered questions about you. what’s your name? why were you out so late? why were you willing to help him? do you see him as weak?
‘so? did you do it because i still feel like shit.’ he could feel himself flush from the stare you shared as he didn’t know how long he was looking at you for.
you left out a soft giggle, rubbing your hands up and down your arms to warm yourself up. ‘sorry, I'm not that quick with my quirk, you only really glanced at me.’ you scooted closer, still leaving enough space between you two.
‘i’m just gonna make you feel better, calmer,’ you whispered. his sad eyes locked onto yours, the longer you stared you watched his features and body soften. you didn’t know what was bothering him, why this usually strong and powerful boy who could make a packed room listen to him, could impress pro heroes with his quirk, and you were sure he had friends, was alone. you wondered why was bakugou katsuki crying on the side of the pavement in the early hours of the morning?
like you used to find comfort in the darkness, bakugou felt comfort looking in your eyes. peace. it felt like serenity was being injected into his veins, he knew his problems were still there out in the universe, needing to be solved. but at this moment they became just background noise, you were his focus.
‘and... that’s it, i think it should be kicking in now,’ you released an awkward laugh, feeling shy from the stare that continued longer than was necessary. you continued looking at him seconds after you finished. as if you couldn’t escape his stare, even though it was just you using your quirk. he made you feel powerless, him in control. bakugou mirrored your actions, now staring at the floor away from your eyes but his shoulders significantly lighter.
you scrambled to your feet abruptly, going to wipe your hands on your thighs, ‘well that’s that then, i'll be on my way, it's getting a bit chilly now.’ although your long stare, you both found it difficult to meet eyes again, or even look at his figure. his presence made you feel warm, an aroma of caramel flooding your senses. he got up after you, ‘i-i can walk you to your dorm, if you want, in return?’
bakugou felt his heart race against his chest as his stuttered through his question. he never stuttered; he was always sure in what he wanted. was it the effect of her quirk? the anger he felt was now replaced with nervousness in your presence. he awaited your reply.
‘sure.’
you walked side by side in silence up to your dorm, both lost in your thoughts. it felt good to help somebody with your quirk. it wasn’t like all the other times before when you would do it to make your life easier. here you did it for him because he asked you too - and he does look better than before. the redness in his eyes was clearing up and there was less of a hunch as he walked. he was still the bakugou you usually see just without the ongoing warzone in his head. beside you bakugou was relishing in this newfound feeling. your quirk felt like a drug on him, a reassuring high without the high. he wanted to start up a conversation with you, use this feeling before it went and he’d be back to the unforgiving rage he constantly felt.
however as you got to the steps of your dorm building, you and bakugou paused. his attention shifted onto some rocks on the ground. he took a deep breath and spoke up.
‘what's your name?’
you answered him.
‘i haven't felt like this for a while. i can't remember the last time i've felt like this. so... thanks.’ he let it out as if it was a secret he’d been holding in.
you smiled at him, ‘no problem’, his crouched body and sniffles from before flooded your mind as you let out without thinking, ‘if you want me to help you again, i'll be happy too?’
‘erm, maybe. i probably won't see you again after this.’
‘today wasn’t planned. we could meet again also unplanned?’ you took this as your chance to start walking up the stairs into your dorm.
‘i haven't even told you my name.’ his eyes looked desperately into yours. he wanted your attention again, he wanted you to look at him again before the peace wore off.
‘everybody knows your name, bakugou katsuki.’
your hand wrapped around the door handle, turning around giving him one last tender smile before slipping inside your dorm building, leaving the ash blonde alone.

"hah? who're you calling stupid... stupid," bakugou childishly retorted back to his redheaded friend beside him. he reverted his focus down to his own reflection in the sea, hoping the soft moonlight could hide the blush flooding his cheeks.
kirishima chuckled back, playfully hitting his crimson tail against bakugou’s orange one, "i really thought you'd be manly enough to talk to her after all this time. i literally catch you looking at her every time we rest here."
in tandem, bakugou and kirishma’s eyes landed onto your figure perched on a rock, looking wistfully out to the sea with your head in your palm. you seemed to be at peace, opting for a lilac satin nightgown, rather than the beautiful but obnoxious gowns your parents have you wear. the cold breeze surrounded you, causing wisps of your hair to fly around your head. you exuded beauty, patience and kindness; anyone around you could feel it, something bakugou knew people took advantage of.
"you know land people don't like us. what's the point in even trying?" bakugou scoffed, "especially with the princess."
kirishima sighed, tilting his head to admire you better, "hatred between the land and sea people is just an urban legend. you just sound scared, bro, and honestly, you won't know if you don't try."
bakugou hated that line with all his being. he'd first get his tail tangled by all that rubbish the land people would throw into the sea then hear that line again. so, he ignored it coming from kirishima’s mouth, focusing on the idea of him being scared. because one thing bakugou katsuki hates to be, is scared.
"scared? i'm not scared of nothin. especially her." he crossed his muscular arms across his chest.
"prove it."
two simple words that could make bakugou do anything. he found himself splashing his friend before begrudgingly swimming up to you with a grunt.
unsurprisingly, you were even more beautiful up close. it was no wonder why people on land and sea could all agree on that fact. bakugou watched your pupils follow the ripples of the sea in front of you, a sigh escaping your lungs.
his heart racked against his chest, his nerves shaking down to the tip of his tail. how embarrassing. imagine if anyone at home found out how nervous he was to talk to a girl?
"oh, erm, hey?" maybe he was stupid like kirishima said.
"bakugou?"
it used to be katsuki leaving your lips with a gleeful grin to match. your eyes would bore into his own, the moonlight giving them a unique sparkle.
instead, you jumped uncomfortably at his voice, hurt shining in your eyes, refusing to meet his. he remembered all the times you would scramble over to him at the sound of his voice, kneeling down to greet him with a tender kiss on the cheek, palms resting on his shoulders. you always used to tell him you'd only dip your feet in the water, but he'd drag you in by your foot up to your knees, then yank your whole body into his arms. you would squeal from the cold water hitting your skin, your clothes drenched but his body would keep you warm.
now you shrunk away from him, moving to hug your legs as if to protect yourself.
"what are you doing around here?" you whispered. you shifted around on the rock; your bum was probably getting numb from sitting so long, he thought. bakugou used to meet you at this rock, south-west of the castle, three times a week at midnight, though now it's been a while since he last saw you.
"i-uh was just training with kirishima and he saw me looking at you so told me to say something."bakugou never usually stuttered, however, there were many things he never usually did that became a habit with you.
a laugh escaped you but it was far from pleasant, "you were looking at me? you know you wouldn't have had to pretend you don't know me all the time if you just told him about us, right?" you took this as your chance to glance at the merman. he was always so gorgeous in the white moonlight. the deep crevices of his shoulders stood out prominently, the muscles of his arms highlighted in the glow. you had to beg yourself not to react how you once did. always touching each other as if you were starved, you both were inseparable, addicted. vermillion eyes glimmered, his eyebrows furrowing at you- probably at what you said. the water around him sparkled, creating orange glitter-like specks around him, reminding you of the difference between you both. why, according to him, it wasn't meant to be.
"i have no reason to tell him now anyway."
a simple statement, which broke your heart. you were sure if it wasn't for the sea slapping against the rocks, the blonde boy beside you would have heard it crack. you remembered the last few conversations you had with him, announcing that you want to tell your family about you both. you desperately wanted to take your relationship further. being able to live together in public, proudly. ignoring the gossip and whispers about the princess of the land with a measly sea creature.
you turned back to look out to the sea, "you must look beautiful in the sunlight. I've never seen you under it."
bakugou leaned back on the rocks behind him, pretending he didn't notice the rogue tears that hit your cheeks. you were no longer his to touch, to comfort, to love. all because he was scared. of the expectation and judgment that came with dating a human, let alone the princess of them all. he always found it easier to hate the land people, the same way they hated the sea people, until he fell in love with one.
"i love y-"
"i love you. or loved, I don't know", your words came out rushed, almost incoherent, and loud enough for you not to hear what he said. "i also hate you so much because you didn't even want to try. we will never know because we didn't try."
his mind fluttered back to your memories together. you were trying to convince him to let you meet his friends, leading to one of your first arguments- that they never knew you existed. none of the words you flung at him upset him because he didn’t regret his actions in that moment. he knew that if he let you into his world, he could never take you out of it again. he knew he wasn't good enough to fulfil the role in your life that you needed, the role that your family wanted for you. in no way can a merman honestly give a princess the life she deserved, and he didn't want to try just to fail in the end.
"i'm sorry. if it means anything to you now, I love you too and I probably will ‘til I die." bakugou breathed, watching to see tears silently stream down your cheeks.
he made you think you were naïve for believing it could have worked, that the king and queen of the land would be fine with their princess making a merman the next heir to the throne.
you stood up slowly, straightening your nightgown, preparing to leave. "perhaps in another life where we both had legs, or both had tails or I wasn't a princess." your eyes met his briefly, giving a crestfallen smile.
bakugou watched you, his mouth gaped open like a fish. he wanted to say something, anything to have things like they were before. but no words came out.
your head dipped in disappointment, spinning around to make your way back through the woods to the castle. he watched your figure until he couldn't see it anymore, leaving only your lingering scent behind.
"how did it go?" bakugou turned to see his friend grinning at him, sharp teeth on display.
"how much of that did you hear?" bakugou spluttered, jumping at the sound of kirishima's voice.
"i didn't hear anything, I only came over when I saw her get up to go." kirishima nudged bakugou's shoulder, prodding him for information, "so?"
bakugou turned away from him, a frown settling into his features, "i already told you, the land people don't like us."
synopsis: you were upset that you couldn't give your boyfriend katsuki a proper birthday due to being stuck quarantine so you decide to learn the ukulele and perform a little song for him.
word count: 3.8k
warnings: little bit of swearing because its katsuki come on lol
a/n: i got this idea because my birthday is two days after katsus and i got a ukulele and this is the only song I've learnt so far lmao. happy late birthday katsuki love u!!! also accepting constructive criticism !
this was your first time celebrating bakugou’s birthday as his girlfriend. also, the first birthday to be celebrated in quarantine amongst the members of class 1a.
bakugou knew how upset you were that you couldn’t spend his birthday in a luxurious restaurant or a hike in the mountains at sunrise. you whined to him listing all these activities you wanted to do together while mindlessly doodling in the margin of your workbook. you both sat on your own on the common room sofas, bakugou speeding through his homework, only half listening to what you were saying.
‘baby,’ he interrupted, ‘you know i really don’t care for those things right? i love doing them because you do but for my own birthday i’m content with lying in bed with you, training with the boys then coming back to you.’ he dropped his pen in the centre of the book, before resting it on the coffee table in front of him. he wrapped his arms around you, placing his head on your shoulder. homework was now discarded, you took the chance to lay back on his strong chest and inhale his caramel scent. if you weren’t already sure of his quirk, you’d be certain it was some type of emotion control as you felt so at peace, circled in his embrace. he would say the same thing about you.
‘but it’s your first birthday with us together.’ you whispered.
he chuckled his body lightly vibrating behind you, ‘and there will be millions more together.’ he tilted his head downwards to meet your eyes and peck you on the lips.
you groaned because his first birthday mattered! to you! so you playfully twisted around to push him back into the sofa and laid on top of him. you shoved your face in his chest, kicking your feet up in the air in retaliation.
two hands slivered to your sides as he began to tickle you to rid the frown between ur eyes. ‘let it go, idiot, it’s fine!’ you giggled and a massive grin settled on his face.
it was not fine and you did not let it go.
with a week until bakugou’s birthday, you were thinking of all the possible things you could do for him until then. sitting at the common room table you fluttered between focusing on one of the many projects aizawa set as homework and googling the possibility of any of your ideas happening by bringing it to the dorms instead of going out to it.
‘bouncy castle to hire’ in massive letters was glowing on your laptop screen with an annoying red ‘currently unavailable’ under every phone number. as you groaned for the hundredth time today, ashido and jirou slid into the seats opposite you.
‘why so glum, chum?’ ashido chuckled to herself.
your eyes wouldn’t leave the laptop screen, ‘i want to do something for katuski’s birthday! but with quarantine, nobody is available to come here and obviously, we can’t go out so i’m stuck’
‘why don’t you use what you do have?’ jirou replied, all of your attention shifted onto her.
‘what do you mean?’
‘time! we all have so much time now, majority of us are spending it training or learning something new.’ she rested her head in her hands, ‘what’s something you’ve always wanted to learn but never got around to doing?’
you leaned back on your chair and crossed your arms. there are so many things you’d love to be talented in. perhaps learning to draw or write? to dance or... ‘i’ve always wanted to learn the ukulele? learn those cute little songs. what that’s to do with his birthday?’
it took you a second before it clicked, ‘ i could perform a song for him for his birthday! that’s sweet right! he might like that,‘ you shrieked before looking around you in case he could hear you.
‘and luckily for you, i think i might have one in my room!’ jirou grinned, her boisterous bedroom containing every musical instrument possible.
the three of you discussed the idea around the table, ashido saying, ‘he’s so grumpy all the time he might actually combust knowing you did this all for him!’ and jirou hyping you up that you only need to know a couple chords then you’re good to go with a whole song.
still engrossed in chatter you three stand up, your laptop internet browser full of different songs you could learn to perform to bakugou’s on his birthday. trailing behind jirou and ashido towards the elevator to her bedroom, you glance behind you to see kirishima, kaminari and your boyfriend step through the doors from their run around ua's field. he ignores the conversation the two boys have, his hands shoved in his black sweatpants. his vermilion eyes scan the common room, obviously searching for you. his eyes light up when they meet yours, something only you notice. he mouths, ‘my room?’
‘later!’ you reply giving a wink before stepping into the elevator.
it’s now been a couple days since getting jirou’s old ukulele. it had a mahogany body, with intricate star detailing around the sound hole. it was beautiful and your fingertips traced the strings as jirou gave you a mini tutorial on the basics of the instrument. with her reassurance, you were determined that you’d have a song done in time for bakugou’s birthday.
now you sat in your room taking every chance bakugou isn’t around you to practice the song you’ve chosen. you’ve binged all the youtube videos to teach you, often floating between your and jirou’s room to get her opinion on how you’re playing.
she’d advise you to barre the fret instead of using your individual fingers on each string, change your finger placement which would make it easier for you to move onto the next chord and as a tip if you mess up to keep strumming, nobody would even notice. you were truly having a blast learning the ukulele, catching yourself picking it up and strumming during times you planned to do other activities. it also helped significantly that the boys' dorms were on the other side of the building than the girls so there was no way bakugou could hear you playing through the door. though the melodies from your room led to the 1a girls sitting in your room and listening to you practice, gushing when they find out it’s all for him.
‘you’re so brave to sing in front of us all! i’d be so nervous to do it to deku, let alone the whole class’ uraraka span on your desk chair while you sat on your bed ukulele resting in your lap.
singing. you forgot about the fact you had to sing in front of everyone. you hadn’t even sung properly while practising, just humming as you played.
three knocks rang from your door.
‘y/n it’s me,’ came a gruff voice, impatience laced in the tone.
as if it were procedure, uraraka closed your laptop while you pushed your ukulele under your bed.
‘come in!’ your mind was still bouncing back and forth on the fact you had to sing and then on the fact you’ve never actually performed in front of a large crowd before and you’ve only been playing for a few days and what if he found it cringy or embarrassing and what if you completely messed up and can you even sing?
bakugou stepped into your room, arms out to embrace you before noticing uraraka in your desk chair. he whipped his arms down to his side, not wanting to be so affectionate in front of her. ‘your dumbass boyfriend has come back from repeatedly punching a couple trees. you should go check on him before he decides to go back out again and punch some more.’
he says this all staring at you, words directed to uraraka, clearly just telling her to leave the room.
uraraka reluctantly gets up from her seat, ‘next time just tell me to go.’ she laughs walking through the door, ‘though that is something he would try to do.’
as the door shut, bakugou laid on the bed beside you and you sat upright. you placed your hand on his chest.
‘what’s up bub?’ you looked at him, wanting to focus on something else instead of the wreckage going on in your mind.
bakugou took your hand in his and began to talk about his day, ‘-and i’m only going to tell you this but shitty hair also gave me one dirty punch in my ribs when we were sparring that hurt like fuck and i didn’t tell him because i don’t want to get him too cocky, i’m still better than that idiot, and so he asked me if that hurt and i said no so he did it again and now my ribs hurt even more and i don’t want to talk to him.’
as his rant slowed to a halt, he looked to see you chewing your lip staring at your fluffy sock cladded feet.
‘why aren’t you saying anything, idiot? did something happen to you today?’ concern embedded in his words as he squeezed your hand for your attention.
the squeeze made you jump in your spot and you turned to give him an apologetic smile. ‘no no i’m fine. maybe you should have just told kiri it hurt so you wouldn’t be in more pain now?’
he ignored your response because quite frankly he wanted you to sympathise and baby him, not give him the harsh truth so he let out his realisation, ‘you haven’t been saying anything about my birthday recently and that’s all you could talk about last week? is it to do with that?’
you knew bakugou was observant but you didn’t expect him to be so spot on with his guess. to your luck, your phone buzzed signalling a message from iida that dinner is ready downstairs.
‘i’m over that now katsuki, anyway dinners downstairs.’ with your hand still in his you pulled him out your bed and dragged him downstairs to the dinner table. your thoughts jumping between his birthday surprise and listening to bakugou complaining that his ribs hurt.
today was the morning of bakugous birthday. he was never one for lay ins, always wanting to get a workout in the morning before anyone could bother him. scuffles sounded from the foot of your bed, peering from the covers to see your boyfriend slowly tugging his socks on as he tried not to wake you up. you tapped your phone to wake, to see a lovely 4:16am glaring back at you.
‘happy birthday baby,’ you grumbled out, your voice croaky and dry. holding the bed sheets to your chest, you shuffled up behind him to leave a kiss on his warm cheek. ‘i love you katsuki.’
‘love you too y/n, didn’t mean to wake you.’ he whispered, you could smell the mint from his freshly brushed teeth and you could see the hair on the back of his head still flat from sleeping moments before. it all made you want to drag him back into bed and cuddle, but he gets grouchy when he doesn’t get a morning workout and you needed to practice a song for tonight.
you climbed back up to the pillows and he walked towards the door. as he was about to close it he says, ‘also y/n i know you really wanted to do something for my first birthday together so i promise when this is over we will go to a stupid restaurant you like or that trampoline park dunce face was talking about or something, yeah?’
you hummed in response, sleep threatening to take over again, ‘yeah that will be fun, see you later.’ you heard the door click shut in response. you sat still in bed for a few seconds until you were sure he’d left the building. you whipped the covers off you, gulped down the water bottle you left on your bedside table and grabbed your ukulele from under your bed.
thinking about performing scared you, but you knew jirou wouldn’t lie to you when she said you had it in the bag. knowing this was the only time today you’d be able to practice, you were fine with sacrificing your beloved sleep, to give bakugou a birthday present he’s never been given before. you played the song on a loop, singing along the best you could. finger tips red and sore, you checked the clock to see whether jirou would be awake to play to her for the last time before the final performance.
‘are you sure it's good enough?’ you held your ukulele close to your chest as if it was a shield to guard you from potential criticism.
jirou, as she wiped the sleep from her eyes after hearing it three more times, knew it was more than perfect.
‘i don’t know how you could improve it more, y/n. your singing is cute, your strums are on time and bakugou will for sure love it.’
you chuckled a smile appearing on your face despite your nerves. ‘and remember if you mess up a little, just keep strumming and nobody will notice.’
you rested the ukelele on the ground and wrapped jirou in a hug, ‘thanks a lot jirou. i wouldn’t been able to do it without you.’
she hugged you back before pushing your figure away, ‘go find the boy now, he’s probably looking for you!’
jitters spread throughout your body, as bakugou promised to spend the rest of the day with you after his morning workout so that was the last time you could practice. you felt as if you were about to burst, keeping this secret from him for so long and you were relieved that this would be the last day.
you stood in the heights alliance kitchen helping the girls bake a sponge cake. bakugou stood behind you with his head on your shoulder, scolding you as you would only really participate by eating some of the cake batter. he wasn’t used to this much attention about something as ‘uninteresting’ as his birthday. compliments for him only usually came from his skills when using his quirk, which he took pride in and constantly trained to do better in. but being surrounded by all these people he would call ‘extras’ doing something for him just for being him, honestly made him want to leave the room out of confusion. but you, as usual, would keep him in place, your excited (slightly fidgety, he noticed) energy shined back onto him, making him want to smile whenever you did.
‘bakubro come try this,’ kirishima yelled, holding a wooden spoon in the air with a sizzling red liquid in the centre. kirishima, kaminari and sero took the task of whipping up a meal for the birthday boy, claiming they should take part in something as they are his best friends. ‘i’m not sure if its spicy enough for you. your taste buds are much more manly than mine’.
bakugou grunted, before going to stalk off towards the boys. you saw him shove the spoon in his mouth, eyes slightly widening in shock from the taste, then going back into his signature glare. you saw him rambling off to them on what to add, kaminari and sero looking in cupboards following his instructions.
ashido crept up behind you as you watched him, ‘are you planning on doing it after dinner?’
you looked at her, then diverted your gaze to your red finger tips from playing this morning. ‘yeah. i hope he likes it. usually we do things for each other on our own, so i hope he’s okay with everyone being around.’ you took a deep breath, ‘and i hope i don’t mess up and make a fool of myself.
‘girl, you won’t. and look at him, you can tell even though he’s a bit overwhelmed by all of us here, he really does appreciate it. in his own way.’
you looked up to find him again, to catch him already staring at you.
plates were wiped clean, cutlery messily placed in empty bowls, tissues strewn across the table as people had to wipe their tears from the food being so spicy. even a jug of milk sat in the centre of the table, less than half full, as members of the class desperately filled up their glasses to rid themselves of the burn in their throats. the class chatted amongst themselves. disapprovement from bakugou as he saw so many of them couldn’t handle it. midoriya's eyes streamed with tears as todoroki beside him patiently waited for the desert of the evening.
‘y/n!’ kirishima called, ‘is the cake ready yet?’
you peered around the room, noticing everyone near enough finished their meal. trying to calm down the butterflies in your stomach, you rose from your seat, ‘we’ll give out the cake after this erm, surprise for katsuki.’
‘hah?’ bakugou whipped his head towards you, ‘what surprise?’
‘woo! strip tease!’ kaminari playfully shouted. bakugou punched him in the shoulder, kaminari whining in response.
you ignored the comment, ‘can everyone sit in the common room please and i'll be there in a second.’
scrapes of chairs moving filled the air as you quickly followed jirou to go collect your ukulele from the hiding spot she left it. you held the instrument tightly with both hands, owlishly blinking at anything but it. jirou gripped your shoulders in her hands, forcing your attention on her. ‘shut up, you’ll do great and he’ll love it.’
she spun you around, shoved a strumming pick in your hand and pushed you out into the common room as the rest of the class sat impatiently waiting. you notice ashido left a purple velvet stool in front of the seats for you.
you nervously walked to the front, avoiding eye contact from everyone. especially your boyfriend that sat directly in front of you. bakugou sat with his arms crossed, legs spread in a stiff posture. he felt his chest weaken as he noticed how skittish you were, gripping the ukulele tightly. he wanted to protect you from your nerves while also protecting himself as he also was nervous of what you were about to do. since when did you ever play the ukulele? is this why you were jittery the other day and why you stopped mentioning how soon his birthday was?
the class quieted down as you placed your bottom on the stool, ‘hello again, so erm, yes its katsuki’s birthday today and i’ve been upset that we couldn’t celebrate it properly for him as a couple.’ you positioned the ukulele on your lap, ‘jirou gave me the idea to use all this extra time we have to learn something new and use that as a gift. so i decided to learn a song to sing for you all, well you for bakugou katsuki’ you glanced up to bakugou, noticing his posture relax as your eyes met. ‘i’ve been practicing this song for a week now and i would have liked to have spent longer on it but it is what it is.’ a soft laugh came from you and the rest of the class mirrored it. ‘i love you katsuki. more than i thought it was ever possible to love somebody. you make me excited to wake up in the morning and inspire me to keep going. and despite what you all probably think, you make it so easy to love you, like it was inevitable. so with that i’m going to sing, can't help falling in love with you but that ukulele version i saw by that artist you like.’
‘let's go y/n!’ ‘so cute, let’s get it!’ scattered around the class. you put your fingers in position on the strings and you spared a glimpse at jirou who gave you a thumbs up. ‘also big thanks to my lovely best friend jirou who had to put up with me playing this song to her at least a hundred times a day, love you lots.’
you started to strum, the whole building pin drop silent. bakugou's arms dropped from their position, his hands resting weakly on his knees. his heart beat replicated your nervous one as he couldn’t keep his eyes off you and the words that beautifully slipped from your mouth.
you weren’t the best singer, but you could sing softly and all for him, which made you the best he’s ever heard. you took your time, starting quietly, but getting louder as your confidence built up with no mistakes. your fingers danced across the ukulele gracefully, pressing on the strings without hesitation. the serenity from when you played in your room and with the girls returned, but now it was just you and bakugou.
as you played the last verse, you recalled your relationship together. the walking to school every morning, sparring in the evening and the times you’d force him to dance with you in his room, surprised every time to find out he was a good dancer. the random times you’d find out he also packed you a lunch alongside his own or that time you were in recovery girl's office and he stayed with you for hours, not even being in an official relationship yet. you remembered how he confessed to you and how since then he’s been slowly opening up about how he feels instead of keeping it locked away. it becoming second nature to talk about your own feelings and indulge in each other. you really couldn’t help falling in love with him.
on the last strum, the class let out a cheer, applauding you for your performance and your friends ran up to hug you. praises flung around the room, ‘you done so great, y/n’ ‘i told you you would do well!’ you even heard kaminari whisper, ‘fuck, why am i crying,’ then a louder, ‘holy fuck you’re crying bakugou!’
with that comment you creeped out of your friends embrace to see a tear stained cheeked bakugou. he didn’t even realise himself that he teared up, until kaminari said, so he hastily pressed the palms of his hands into his eyes to prevent anymore. ‘fuck this.’
a grin threatened to spread on your face because you’ve seen bakugou cry twice before out of anger but not from feeling so overwhelmed with love. you wrapped your hands around his wrists, letting him move his hands when he’s ready. ‘did you like it baby? i was a bit slow in some points but-‘ bakugou abruptly stood up and arms finding purchase around you, stuffing his face in the crook of your neck. his voice sounds defeated, ‘i can't help falling in love with you too. but fuck you can't make me cry in front of everyone like a pussy’.
the girls awed at the scene and you only hugged him back tighter, whispering a ‘happy birthday katsuki.’
‘that was so much more heart-warming than a strip tease.’
