Monday Picto: Keeping A Journal At the end of a long, exciting or exhausting day your head can be full of thoughts, ideas, plans and memories. Sometimes you can feel bad about this day and you can feel sad or upset. A good day can make you feel very happy and so stoked it’s going to be so difficult to fall asleep. Is tomorrow worrying you, or are you looking forward to your next day? It is important to get enough rest and to clear your head and heart before you go to sleep. A journal can help you evaluate the day and give your feelings and thoughts a special place, where they won’t interfere with bedtime. A journal doesn’t have to be a boring leather bond book where you jot down all the happenings of today’s day. Make it fun! Draw, paint, write, colour and paste glittery stars. It is your journal and you can make it as unique as you are. Think about things that made you happy today, the things that you’re proud of, the unexpected happenings and the beautiful surprises. If all you want to ‘write’ about today is the song you heard on the radio that made you want to dance, or that beautiful flower you saw. Do it! There are no rules, you don’t have to fill a page, you don’t have to write a novel on who said what and when, you can just express your thoughts and emotions on a page, the things that were important to you. You can journal in a book, a sketch pad or on a big colourful piece of paper that will be used for days or weeks. If writing is not your thing, use a paintbrush and pick the colour that represents this day best and tell your story through shapes and colour tones. If you need help, ask for help with cutting, drawing and writing to make your page of the day even more beautiful then you had ever imagined. And then, you’ll say, what happens after a week or a month or many years...? Perhaps you can answer this question yourself, what do you think? I am going to find out with you.... Because (I’ll tell you a secret) I just started my not so boring journal too today 📝💛 #mondaypicto #journaling #keepingajournal #express #write #draw #paint #colour #specialseeds #unique #firstday #secret #dailyprogress #proud #happy #beautiful #special
Find out how keeping a journal makes you a better writer by improving your habits and skills.
Writing:
Diaries never really interested me but the thought of a Journal, now that was something different! A journal sounded much more interesting and mysterious. Years ago I read Divine Secrets of The Ya-Ya Sisterhood by Rebecca Wells. It’s set in Louisiana USA and needs to be read slowly, in the conversational style of down South. The story is about Vivi and her daughter Siddalee, a distant, dysfunctional mother and daughter who are drawn together by Vivi’s scrapbook. Vivi has three lifelong friends and they’ve all grown up together, had babies together, share everything and together make up the Ya-Yas.
What’s the point of this little book review?
The point is - this scrapbook that was called - Divine Secrets of The Ya-Ya Sisterhood was the hook that snagged me in the story. This scrapbook was bursting at the seams with wondrous things and I just wanted to get my hands on it. It’s my idea of a journal, full of life, containing photos, newspaper clippings, recipes, ribbons, show tickets, menus, flyers and all sorts of memorabilia of what Vivi had done, where she'd gone and who she'd done it with. If I kept a journal it would have to be like this, full of bits and pieces.
Hopefully I’m doing something of the sort here on this Blog. I'm writing for my daughters to read and get to know me a little better, get to understand the little things that make me me and I find it easy to write things here on these pages. Why is that?
Because no one is actually listening??
Gaming Journal
Yes, i know this might sound very weird, but my mom convinced me to start writing a gaming journal. I used Tumblr to post what I learned from the gaming industry. However, there have been many sleepless nights that I have had just thinking about code...yes, code. I wouldn't say that I am a pro at programming, but there have been times where I sit in front of my computer thinking..What has gone wrong with my life? like most programmers lol. My mom suggested I write down everything because I ignore the true answer with my daily thoughts...Heck if it means I can get sleep, I will try about anything. Going to bed at 2 am to wake up 4 hours later doesn't cut it anymore...I'm no spring chicken! (^_^)
A few nights I typed in a word document a gaming journal. I cannot believe how much it has helped. I typed, copied, and pasted my code in the word document and the next morning I came up with solutions to the problem I thought about the next day! What is this sorcery known as my gaming journal and why didn't I do it at the beginning of this year when I could've really needed it.
Oh, well. Now that I know it helps, I will continue to type up my little journal to help me overcome overthinking my code. Meaning I can have more time for making other code tighter or behave in a more fluid manner.
My type of journal
I want to keep a book and write down the things that blow my mind. Example:*sitting in physics class* "matter can not be created or destroyed" (mind blown). Number 1: matter can not be created or destroyed.
Into the Atmosphere
Floating upwards, released into the sky
I escape without even having to try
I look down below me, people and places disappear
Drowning out all other noise, wind is the only sound I hear
I climb and climb with no end in sight
I near the sun, its rays glowing ever-bright
The heat seeps through my skin
And pop! the ascent has done me in
