Spore OC | Karlislik the Oblixi

I used to play Spore a lot, but now I don't really do that much shockingly. Also because I don't have any posts to post, so I'm back to my occasional, habitual reposts on this platform (that I sometimes forget), might as well pull this one off

Raptor Campfire (2026)

An annual remake thing that I've been trying to continue since 2020 to figure out how my style and rendition has changed, except for a 2 year break in between. Other than that, I now have a pretty free schedule with no other backlogged ideas, aside from a small backlog that I have yet to post.

Haolong dongi

I started immediately working on this one after I completed the Spinosaurus mirabilis piece featuring my own OC on the side. However, it took almost a month for me to get around this and 6 hours to complete it excluding breaks. Mostly that had to do with the quills and plant textures that annoy me - and also said burnout in the recent months.

I'm sure I can still sort of get through this creative block... Just that I got to exclude some of the more demanding projects that I have to commit to finishing by the end of April.

Hornet Hornet

Rare fanart piece for your unsightly, unholy eyes to see. (I rarely do them because I'm too focused on my personal projects, actually. That is why I'd call myself an OC artist rather than a fan artist for a reason.)

Seen one of the "hornet" Hornet pieces a while ago and I wasn't satisfied with one of the other ideas that I had. One of those reinterpretations are that the face masks are a facade to an arthropod head instead of taking the mask as the actual head - and that one is much more of an interesting angle than literal "mask = head". That is one of the few inspirations but it wasn't the primary driving factor as I had something like that since December 2025, before I've seen that.

Also I haven't seen a lot of similar approaches as that one either. A majority of Hornet fanart is either humanoid (anthro or human) or literalist (sticking to the style). So I pursued the "hornet" Hornet approach just to nip some of the backlogged ideas that I need to eliminate.

Also kind of missed this, she should technically be half-spider in the actual story, not a full-on hornet. I guess you can say that is more to do with her powers in this interpretation. Okay, I'll admit that I'm not a diehard fan of Hollow Knight XD. I am a latecomer.

(Actually that might be an idea to try sometime later but as I said, I don't do a lot of fanart for this reason - nothing in the world really appeals to me except for a handful few like... The Orville.)

I don't draw a lot of bugs as well so this was interesting to also try to wrap my hand around "anthropomorphising" proper insects and not sci-fi insectoids. The closest to having drawn a lot of bug-adjacent content for me had been my knockoff Tyranid/Zerg race of the Heltrik which are by definition "sci-fi insectoid" than real arthropod.

Reference of my spinosaurus OC Tzenlonios, remade to look less wonky (the 2025 reference was rushed out of the gate) and added a backstory because I don't think anyone understood that last year. (It was a meme though) For the next month, it'll be just me updating things for Art Fight 2026, most likely. I still have two more extinct characters to do, new ones for posterity then I'm reworking with a bunch of Dracoghoul characters.

King Silverfish - or Specevo Minecraft Silverfish

Well its April 1st here (as of this post)... I got to do something stupid dedicated for the day while I work up with the last two chapters of a long-running project of mine that I need to finish by the end of that month. (This was actually completed on 30th March.)

This is technically a remaster of something I once did in late 2024, but never came around to finishing it. I think I'm glad that I didn't push it forward as in retrospect the way I draw bugs feels iffy.

It is meant to be one of those one-shot speculative evolution scenarios that go around my head sometimes. Seen too many Minecraft speculative evolution stuff of iconic mobs, even down to farm animals, but now its time to explore the Silverfish. Like, the Minecraft Silverfish but realistic.

The Silverfish (called the king silverfish ITTL) is not exciting in this world. They are related to the real silverfish, but not remarkable. Sure, they are considered household pests in that same vein, but aside from being able to actually bite (which is non-lethal) thanks to more powerful mandibles, preference to lay eggs in cracks/gaps and chew harder materials (but not soft stone), the king silverfish is just harmless. They're still fast as the house silverfish too. So I guess they are really boring and not epic like in Minecraft anyway.

As you can tell, I don't draw a lot of bugs. Its not out of personal reasons, I would like to actually draw more of them, but I'm just not really invested a lot into them, but I do know in my notes that they are supposed to be a lot more important in Drachor ecologically (even down to the Dracoghouls' part of their diet in some cases) so I need to figure out where they fit in. Still, they're bigger in Drachor than on Earth, but they're not big as Meganeura or Arthropleura. I am also used to drawing bug aliens for aesthetic reasons but not really REAL bugs. So I might need to chalk up on doing more real-life bug studies (technically its a study because I really don't do study studies in my current workflow), be it paleoart or whatever comes to mind.

Dracoghoul Smaugust 2025: Batch 1 (Days 1 to 8)

Going to repost these in chunks rather than separate posts because of well, fears of shadowbanned posts. I will put them into a dedicated post later when I can get the rest of it done.

So basically the series was that I have my own version of Smaugust since 2023 that I've been refining and doing for July-August. I standardised the 32 amount and the general character ref sheet format since 2024 and am hoping to repeat this again in 2026.

All of the characters are adapted from the Dracoghouls list of characters that are basically draconian.

A lot of the designs in these dragons - or more so my variant of my own original species (hence the tag #dracoghouls specifically) are less "draconic" generally in my head but they are still dragons because that's the label I've been giving to them and they still superficially look like dragons - and dragons are an alternate "name" for paramammals in Drachor.

Draconians become a specific term for the second major form/subspecies of the Nari for those with these explicit features - pronounced scales. Even the Dracoghouls (Nari) weren't appearing like dragons to begin with prior to modification - more like human-sized gremlins, though they might come across like a dragon even without the tacked-on features.

Some lean quite a lot into dinosaur or pterosaur designs specifically, so that's why you might see hadrosaur or ceratopsian head designs or pterosaur crests being as common as typical draconic features like horns.

With this year's Smaugust 2025 and kind of the recent foray into drawing together both draconian and ghoul versions together for a single character, there are also alternate canonical versions of their draconian form as... proper dragons. But I would describe them to be non-canon rather than canon in the context of the Dracosphere.

It is canon to one of the projects where they are depicted as feral rather than humanoid, however, hence Smaugust 2023 kind of started the whole thing so that I could get used to doing animal/creature designs more. (I've drawn a lot of humanlike characters in the past and alien creatures too but not like... standard quadrupeds that are not alienlike in design as an excuse.)
