this came to me in the vision, or another episode of no canon proof, just vibes series:
Carathir usually stays out of his brothers' affairs. He stays out of all affairs, actually. He's got his own realm to watch over, he's got his economy running, he cuts all the unneeded ties, and he generally dislikes drama, because drama affects stability.
What makes this funny (at least for me) is that he dies in the first major drama (in Beleriand) he involves himself in, aka the Second Kinslaying.
Which leads to this:

TLDR: Drama is incredibly lethal for Caranthir the Dark
