this episode was soooo tlt musical coded. literally lost, killer quest, tree on the hill, in the same boat. grover’s consensus song was literally in the same boat. i want to believe joe tracz (who has 0 say in the script) used his power to add that little nod there

Reasons why Killer Quest from The Lightning Theif musical is amazing:

1.) "My mom's gone." "From this world. But if she's anywhere, she's in the underworld." "I'll do it." Percy doesn't even hesitate. He's just willing to risk his life to get his mom back because he loves her. Percy and Sally are such an incredible mother/son duo!

2.) "You're my best friend, dude, so don't get mad, but I suspect you'll need protecting when things get bad." I love how Grover immediately decides to go with him. Sure, he also has his own reasons, but one of them is to protect his friend while they trek through the underworld. He is an amazing friend.

3.) "I'm finally gonna pass a test." 😂😂

4.) "You need me too, Seaweed Brain. If you're going to save the world, I'm the best person to keep you from messing up." I strongly admire Annabeth's determination in this part. Like, she straight up hijacked a quest so she can make something of herself while saving the world. what a badass.

5.) "We're going on an awesome--!" "--dangerous and scary--!" "--thrilling--!" "--monstrous--!" "--and hairy--!" and hairy?? this reminds of that Phineas and Ferb song when Candace says she'll change her name to Larry because she ran out of rhyme's lmao. why did Grover go with hairy?? I mean, was the quest hairy? how could it have been hairy???

I'm still stuck on that "hairy" part, but it's hilarious, so it's fine lol. Also, I really enjoy how all three of their motivations for going on this quest is sung in one song. Like, it successfully ends the first act, and it combines their motivations like they're all in this together, and they are!

Relistening to the TLT musical soundtrack and I just noticed thunder rumbling at the end of “Killer Quest”.

types of adventurecore

enchanted forest: throwing on a big billowy outfit, some boots, and a sun hat, grabbing a wicker basket filled with fresh bread, fruit, and cheese, and exploring a sunny forest filled with magical creatures, wandering through grassy hillsides, befriending animals and bugs, helping those in need as you come across them, forging your own path as you go, discovering an enchanted cottage, cleaning and cooking for the magic beings that live there, being true of heart, time and stress and responsibilities don’t exist here, true peace (see also; howl’s moving castle, grimm’s fairy tale classics, my neighbor totoro, mother holle)

killer quest: humble beginnings, swept away into a noble adventure, diverse groups of magical friends, helping anyone you can, loyal almost to a fault, always good intentions, enjoying the journey, going out of your way to help anyone you can, standing up for what’s right, maybe not the strongest but will never stop trying, loves to learn, doesn’t give up easily (see also: legend of zelda, lord of the rings, the wizard of oz, adventure time, the unbreakable kimmy schmidt)

modern prophets aka me: ya adventure vibes, everything by the seat of your pants, surviving hard times with humor, big crackhead energy, “I think you should try talking to a therapist...” “lmao mood”, mandatory call to adventure, strange powers you don’t understand, crappy motels, on the run from the law, “so i was on a rooftop next to my best friend’s reforming corpse, chugging rosé and watching stars rearrange into prophetic constellations, as law enforcements and vengeful demons rapidly closed in around us, like you do...”, pop punk, going down fighting, intense contrasts between powerful magic and the mundane, doomsday plague serum in a “there’s a chance this is wine” water bottle, jackets and bracelets and necklaces and boots worn like armor, go big or go home, impromptu and unconventional weapons like scissors and modified nail guns, weight of the world is on the shoulders of a couple of teenagers/young adults, “we’re just kids... how the hell are we supposed to deal with this?”, practicing archery and sword fighting and telekinetic abilities in your back yard, rapidly googling how to pick locks, rapidly approaching storm clouds with the sun still shining through, the smell of slightly burnt coffee, inside jokes, hoping your neo to go and paw patrol bandaids will be enough medical attention because hospitals are not an option, unsettling dreams, parking garage lights, leaning on each other, living out of backpacks, making it work because there’s really no other option  (see also; percy jackson, heroes of olympus, hold me closer necromancer, illusive (from what i’ve read), heroes, heroes reborn, marvel’s runaways (from what i’ve seen), under the dome (from what i’ve seen), misfits)
