#BeKind21 Day 14: Fostering curiosity and kindness in classrooms

Our #BeKind21 challenge was sparked by our executive director, Maya, whose son just started his first day of school. She wanted to make sure the very first classroom he ever went to was going to be open, welcoming, and kind. But we don’t just want that for Maya’s son - we want that for every student.

We’re so excited to share a video from our #BeKind21 partner, KIND Healthy Snacks on its Foundation’s signature initiative, Empatico - a free tool that empowers educators and students to explore the world through experiences that spark kindness, empathy, and curiosity. Students learn how to explore their similarities and differences through shared experiences.

Check out these reflections from a first grade class in Florida that recently connected with a class in Nevada.

What is it? A giant pile of sugar and accompanying children sculpted out of sugar that appeared in Times Square, New York in August this year courtesy of Kind.

It’s good because while the stunt is a marketing campaign for Kind’s new Fruit Bites, the scale of the sugar mountain is a stark reminder of the amount of sugar consumed on a daily basis. The 45,485 pound mound of sugar represents the amount of sugar eaten by US children in 5 minutes.

I’ve been hearing about Kind Nutrition a lot lately and it had me wondering.  I’ve been jonesing for a good bar to snack on, as chocolate and anything else with Milk in it is evil for me and apparently EVERY snack bar has milk, soy and/or wheat. So with me and my food allergies – my selections are few and far between.
