Lucifer comforting you when your anxiety is in full swing...
Too many thoughts are swirling around your head. None of them kind. Especially not towards yourself... this happens sometimes. And you know when it's happening. It starts off as a strange, empty feeling in the pit of your stomach. And it grows into a dread that consumes you. Like something bad has happened and you just don't know it yet. Like you did something wrong without realizing it. And the negative thoughts continue to flood in, spurring it on more and more until you are stuck in a spiral of hopelessness.
And it makes you feel small. So so small.
You lay in bed alone, unmotivated to do anything. The anxiety has mentally and emotionally drained you to the point where you dont want to bother with trying to do anything right now. It's not going to help. And you certainly weren't in the mood to be around other people. You don't have the energy to put on a brave face.
You hear the bedroom door open and close and footsteps approach you, but you don't make an effort to look up to see who it could be. You already know. The bed dips behind you as Lucifer kneels onto the mattress. His hand touches your arm and squeezes reassuringly. He doesn't need you to acknowledge him or say anything. He just wants you to know he's there. To know that he knows how you feel... he knows all too well what this is like. And it killed him to see you like this...
Lucifer lays down behind you and pulls your back against his chest. Spooning you while he buries his face in your hair... his hand finds yours and your fingers intertwine. He places slow, sweet little kisses to the back of your head... all the affection helps take you out of your mind, even for just a moment, and you manage a small smile. It doesn't completely make the horrible feeling in your chest go away. But it feels a little better to not be so alone. And you know Lucifer will stay beside you as long as you need... and if you wanted to be alone, he would respect that. But the two of you have been through this enough times that he knows you mostly just want someone to be there. Not to talk. Not to try and cheer you up. Just share their space and warmth with you. To be your anchor and your shield until this feeling passes.
And it always does. It always gets better. It will get better.
