It's Halloween but I'm talking about Disney Princess movies!

Disney has some of the best girl dads. There's not many dads in Disney, but they're there!

Sleeping Beauty

King Stefan absolutely tanked his kingdom's spinning industry by ordering the destruction of all the spinning wheels around, in an extra attempt to thwart a literal curse on his baby. Didn't work, but dang!

On the day that he's waiting for Aurora to come back, all he can really think about is how worried he is since he doesn't know if she's okay. Then, when his best budy King Hubert brings up the betrothal thing (that HE even agreed on), he's like "wait, I'm just now getting my daughter back, and you're taking her away from me" and he's so worried about just springing the betrothal on Aurora and scaring her, and so accidentally offends his best friend about it.

(Shoutout to King Hubert, getting offended over his son. "A shock?! My Phillip, a shock?! What's wrong with my Phillip?!" and tries to actually fight King Stefan, throwing out insults and declaring war, before they both calm down. And then when he finds out that Phillip wants to break the royal engagement over a peasant girl, he's not even so much mad at him as he is worried about how he's gonna break the news to King Stefan that Phillip's doing this [which he is apparently allowing, though it distresses him]).

Like he genuinely wants her to be happy, and also he wants so badly for her to be safe and sound.

The Little Mermaid

King Triton is very ironically such a supportive dad. You see, unlike most dads in movies and fiction and stuff, Triton worries about being too hard on his daughter, even when he genuinely believes that she's putting her life at stake. Heck, he is just SO excited and happy when he finds out that Ariel's in love with someone (he just didn't think it would be a human). When was the last time you saw that in a fictional work? In real life?? And then he lets her go be with the man she loves! After all of that, he loves her so much, he does his best to prioritize her happiness, even though he struggles with accepting her interests.

Beauty and the Beast

"My daughter? Odd? Where would you get an idea like that?" Maurice loves Belle so much. She's perfect in his eyes.

He's incredibly unique in the fact that most Beauty's fathers in BatB retellings either just go ahead and hand over their daughters to the Beast, some of them sadder than others.

Maurice is happy to see Belle once he's locked in the tower, but insists that she leave. When the Beast appears, all Maurice does is yell "Run, Belle!" When she trades her life for his, he begs her not to do it. "No, Belle, listen to me, I'm old, I've lived my life." The Beast literally has to drag him away, and he continues to beg the beast to let his daughter go. Once back at the village, he immediately rushes to get help, but no one believes him, mocking him as they through him out into the snow. He ultimately decides to try and rescue Belle by himself, with no horse, and no clear way back to the castle; and though he was unsuccessful, he tried.

And even after all that mess, when Belle wants to go back to the castle to save the Beast from the mob, Maurice. Goes. With. Her. She insisted that the Beast had changed, letting her go on her own, and now she's determined to save him. And he supports her.

The Princess and the Frog

We don't get to see much of Tiana's father, but he's so important that he specifically is singled out to show Tiana the importance of love, by both her mother Eudora, Mama Odie, and even the villain Dr. Facilier. He loved his family so much, and he worked so hard, and yet he dreamed, and he shared those dreams with her. He would've named their restaurant after her. He cherished and valued her, taking the time to instill good values while still encouraging her to believe in things. "Our little girl's got a gift!" and they share the gumbo Tiana made with the whole neighborhood. Teaching her not only the importance of community, but also about how proud of her he is, and how he believes she can make others' lives better just by sharing her gift.

I swear, it's like the opening is from a different movie

Honestly, it gives me "Shrek" vibes in the best way possible, like you know you're getting an ode to older stories and it's gonna put through the perspective of a modern lens--and then it completely loses me. If you've never seen this movie, you'll understand that you can skip the storybook opening (though I wouldn't recommend it; best part of the movie right here) and still watch the rest since it has no long-lasting consequences of the rest of the film. It's such a shame, because I was totally on board for them doing a "Sleeping Beauty"-inspired film--honestly, it's the ideal film to take from, visually-speaking, when you wanna do a fairy tale; the older, gothic nature really adds some darkness and edge to it that makes it stand out. The storybook for "Sleeping Beauty" feels like it's an older text brought to life for film, whereas "Wish" has a much more modern look, like it was a recently made book. Obviously I can see the appeal with making it look fresher, but there's the whole "fresh looks cheap, old looks authentic" argument you can make here. In fact, I would've enjoyed having a Disney star do the narration for the film for "Wish," as well as interjections and page-turning like "Sleeping Beauty" did at certain points in the film (though this was mainly in the beginning).

Honestly, I'm trying to lean into this vibe for my rewrite.

Darkside Disney Princesses: Sleeping Beauty

Sleeping Beauty I decided to take a twist on the whole Maleficent movie relationship thing.

So for this AU, Briar Rose, instead of running up to her room in despair after hearing she's a princess and has to leave her whole life behind, instead runs out into the woods. And before the fairies can find her--they're still keeping their magic small to keep their location secret, not knowing its already been compromised--she runs into Maleficent.

Of course, she has no idea who the wicked fairy is. No one has ever told her about her. All she knows is that a beautiful and powerful being of the forest is before her, but Rose has never known real wickedness, and perhaps she's feeling somewhat rebellious towards her aunts, so she begins talking to the strange woman when Maleficent --who likes to play with her food-- feigna concern asks Rose to tell her what's made her so upset.

So Rose tells her about how she just found out her whole life is a lie, and how she'll never see the first boy she ever met again, and how she doesn't want to go and be princess with a king and queen she doesnt know, parents who gave her up for some reason intead of bothering to raise her themselves.

If she had had time to process her grief, and the promise of not being separated from her new found love, Rose might have been able to get over these resentments, spoken in the heat of the moment, more quickly.

But Maleficent decides that fanning the flames of he Princess's broken heart and trust, playing on her anger towards Stefan and the three fairies, could be so much more entertaining than just killing the girl outright.

So she takes Rose by the arm, and back with her to her palace, where she promises her the truth about all her questions, and the answers to how to solve all her problems...

Time passes, and the princess never arrives on her 16th birthday.

The king and queen are distraught. Relations breakdown between the human kingdom and the fairy court, as the fairies failed in their duties to guard the human girl, and they are called back into the Veil of the Fairies, leaving the mortals to fend for themselves.

Then relations break down between the human kingdoms when Prince Phillip goes missing as well, vanished into the forest, never to be seen again.

And then others begin to vanish. A farmer here, a wandering knight there. A whole group of children one moonless night. As more disappear, many more begin to flee entirely. Fields are left untilled, houses abandoned, borders undefended.

Tales soon cross the land as the refugees take flight from Stefan and Hubert's kingdoms. Tales of a dark presence that haunts the shadows of the woods, stealing away those who are foolish enough to wander beneath the trees. A fiend who takes the shape of a beautiful forest sprite, with a voice like a nightnagle. She causes all who hear it to fall under her spell, wandering into the shadows like they're walking in a dream, one from which they will never wake...

Just playing around on photoshop editing Aurora and thought about what if she had a sister. A spare in case things go wrong and Aurora does die.

I named her Talia. I tried to give her more of Stefan's features because Aurora inherited all of her mother's looks.

Feel free to draw her if you want... like a Draw This In Your Style challenge or something (but there's no prize at the end). Can even make up a story for her too.

Lilith Page, daughter of Maleficent and King Stefan

Have I gone crazy? Maybe so, but continuing with my VK Gen 0, I wanted to try another daughter of Maleficent and wanted to add more flavor to the matter by mixing the original movie and the live action djasndjksand.

It all begins with an unusual friendship between a human and a fairy; a young peasant named Stefan heads to the Wasteland to steal a jewel… a friendship that begins to take a step further…

Maleficent was a lamia who was born to protect the wasteland, a land without a king in which she had initially taken responsibility at an early age… but over time, Maleficent began to believe that her own potential was being wasted protecting lesser beings, causing her to fail in her duty as protector of the wasteland, making it her place of torture, as well as being a threat to the humans of Auroria, killing them without any mercy.

Stephan, over time, began to realize that the woman he loved was beginning to corrupt his heart, turning it blacker than tar. She also stopped seeing him as a person rather than simply an object. He began to have mixed feelings; he worried for her well-being, knowing that her head was being sought for what he did, as well as disgust at the monster he had become. An internal conflict that made him realize what a horrible person she was, and he decided to try to kill her, not for the reward of marrying Princess Leah, but to eliminate a threat… But once he had the chance, he couldn't do it… his treacherous heart couldn't kill the fairy he still had feelings for, so instead of killing her, he took away one of her greatest strengths… Her wings…

After this betrayal, Maleficent shows her true nature and begins to treat her charges as mere lackeys… and shortly after, she finds out she's pregnant and wants to take the child, but because of fate, she can't (She was carrying her successor for neglecting her duties as a lamia), so she has no choice but to carry the pregnancy to term and abandons the baby to her fate. However, she is found by peasants who gave her a name: Lilith Page.

I know Maleficent is more considered a Fae, but I based it on her role as protector of the moorland kingdom, so Here is a Lamia.

Emma Swan, daughter of Snow White and Prince Florian

Can I be honest? I really wanted to include Emma Swan, but not as their daughter, to try to adapt the Descendants universe and pretend Emma was a very powerful sorceress, but then I remembered that the Evil Queen of OUAT herself destroyed reality to create Storybrooke. Honestly, I only took elements from the series because I once tried to watch it and didn't understand it at all due to its convoluted narrative. (I simply went to the series' wiki to grab concepts and add them. I also did it to add Baelfire, Devin, and Felix for my Disneyfied Hook 1991.)

Okay, so Emma Swan would be the daughter of Snow White with Prince Florian and all the events of OAUT happen in which the eternal reset of reality caused a great collapse and Emma has been trying to restore Storybrook again and again and again but each result is worse… however, unexpectedly, her old best friend Lily has been there for her and so the daughter of true love decides to live in whatever reality they fall into… (I hope you get the idea)

Well then what happens in Snow White canon happens (the animated movie don't tell me about the abortion of the live action) and a short time later Emma is born long before the unification of Auradon, but here the dark curse could also happen (Would that explain the Descendants crossover?) I suppose here it would be launched by King Adam or Queen Belle to create the goal of their unified nation and punish all villains and regulate magic. So both Snow White and her husband pugongo that they would unconsciously save their daughter from the curse but instead of sending her to another reality they would send her far away to keep her safe and she ends up in a village where she is adopted days after they find Lily…

From what I understand, the unification of Auradon and the Isle of the Lost took many years to develop, so some stories could take place before, during, or after the dark curse (many happened thousands of years or decades before). I once read that the war actually lasted 20 years, or I don't know, I'm not good at math (I have dyscalculia). Maybe it took the kings years to develop the spell? Considering the time they lived in and the movie canon, they have abysmal technological advances, so time loops would occur? (That Emma and Lily would end up a little older than the Descendants timeline because the village they grew up in didn't take place at the same time as other places).

Continuing what was said Ema grew up there and met Lily they grew up together until she mysteriously disappeared (Lily discovers her origins and the rumors that her mother has cursed a baby and the suffering of the inhabitants of the moor kingdom). and During the years Emma discovers her own powers and travels around to see this new reality (She has partial memories of the previous realities) and meets Lily again but she was paranoid and a hermit with a mission to get revenge on her mother for abandoning her and taking her place as Lamia and protector of the Moors. so a fight occurs between them in which unexpectedly Lily defeats her and turns her into a Swan.

In the case of The Good Fairies, they were the only ones who managed to escape the wasteland seeking asylum and over time gaining the trust of the current King Stefan and Queen Leah. It took them a while to conceive an heir until Aurora was born and it was a great celebration for the king, completely opening his doors to everyone. Well, everything happens just as it does in the animated film…

But the ones who truly cared for Aurora were both Lily and Emma when their paths crossed again, especially seeing how incompetent fairies are at caring for a human child. And ironically, Bestie considers Lily her fairy godmother. (It's a miracle that Aurora survived at the hands of her fairy godmothers…)

Then Emma would be forced to help Lily with her plans to reclaim the Moor from her mother's clutches while protecting Princess Aurora from Maleficent and her minions (which she was bound to do) until the princess's curse was fulfilled and they could help save her while the prince and the good fairies were busy fighting the dragon. While they were on their way, Lily was caught in an iron net… which burned all over her skin because iron hurts fairies. She was attacked by the knights who were awakened prematurely when they entered the castle, identifying them as intruders. Lily, trying to free herself from the net, frees Emma from her curse and helps her escape by turning into a dragon.

King Stefan in his paranoia mistakes Lily for Maleficent and begins to attack her with his forces, and Maleficent's wings that were there as a trophy go towards their new wearer who perhaps because of the advance or instinctively knowing how to fly.

Meanwhile, they both retreat, seeing Maleficent fall out of the corner of their eye, nearly taking her father out the window, and doing what they had planned: Reclaiming the wasteland.

Which they do, returning it to its full glory. When the good fairies return, they learn about the new rulers and that Lily is also Maleficent's daughter. They learn how they might become one of their representatives to the outside world and hide Lily's relationship.

Over time, the two fell in love and had two children: Henry Mills and Hope Swan-Jones. By the time Auradon was founded, the wasteland had become a refuge for magical creatures, allowing them to freely use their magic, just like Neverland. The one who usually goes to the Auradon council is Emma to avoid Lily being discovered and to put up with King Adam's stupidities as well as to avoid crying when seeing one of her parents without remembering who she is (Or maybe they do know about their daughter but they don't recognize Emma or they avoid feeling hope that she is their little girl?) The wasteland is one of the nations that advocate for the liberation of the VK (Both for Mal and Evie since she is their aunt… Let's say that the Evil Queen was pregnant with her husband's child before she died?)

After The Core Four arrive in Auradon, Lily begins to be more present around here, especially when her little son enters Auradon High next semester.

Real talk: those live-action Tangled castings would make MUCH more sense if they were for a Sleeping Beauty prequel movie about Aurora's parents in their youth.

Milo Manheim does not look like Flynn in the slightest, but he sure as hell looks like a young King Stefan.
