@martinfreemanisababe undoubtedly yeah, couldn’t agree more. I imagine you might’ve seen it already, but I have a post on this very topic here, including lovely pictures for evidence 👌👌👌
fyi this thing exists
KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT!!!
super huge let down tbh. there were parts of it that i loved. parts of it that had me in tears (for good reasons) in the theater. and then there were parts where i wanted to get up and leave because they were just so uncalled for?
like i feel like the plot didn’t know what it wanted to be, none of the subplots were fleshed out well, the romance was underwhelming (and don’t even get me started on how they basically wrote out all the other important women in eggsy’s life--michelle was there for .2 seconds, come on--to focus on the romance bit). the statesmen were boring and underdeveloped, the plot twist at the end was fucking pointless, and there was basically no wrap up from the first movie before we were immediately plunged into this new one.
eggsy’s character was butchered, i hate what they did with merlin in more ways than one, it didn’t even come close to passing the bechdel test, and they basically tried to torpedo hartwin to send it to a fiery death.
on the other hand, the fight scenes were great, colin firth continues to slay me daily (also he’s such a fucking amazing actor--the way he uses his face to portray emotion, man), and seeing eggsy and harry finally get to fight together was so awesome.
i still will never forgive them for killing two of my favorite characters, though.
anyways i TOLD Y’ALL HARRY WASNT DEAD
Also speaking of Kingsman, there are a couple things I’ve noticed.
Despite reading more than one fanfic about Harry collecting snowglobes for Eggsy, that isn’t in the movie. I mean baby Eggsy plays with them, but I guess that’s just a bit of fanon, or maybe it was multiple people writing for the same prompt.
Also am I completely blind or was there not a shot where Eggsy shrugs at the end and all the bullets pop out of his suit. I’ve seen the movie three times and still keep missing that shot. Am I just blinking or looking away at the wrong time (I am a multitasker...) or is that not in there. I might have to pop it in again to see.
Was listening to, “Don’t Trust Me” by 3OH!3 followed by, “Promiscuous” by Nelly Furtado and ended up getting a Hartwin AU idea featuring Rent-boy/secret agent!Eggsy :
Starts off with Harry being assigned a mission (retrieval, escort, body guard, whatever comes to mind), where his target is a frequent guest in this well known bar where it’s not uncommon to see people dressed from high end brand names to close to nothing at all. It’s where people can shed their public appearance from whatever class background they may come from and have a good drink and a good time all in one.
So luckily for Harry, he didn’t have to place too much effort in changing his appearance /too/ much for this mission.
As he is working his way to get closer to his target, to get to know the person a bit more, he somehow finds himself intercepted and a little distracted by one of the club’s main attractions. In the form of a pair of blue-green eyes, a flash of sun wheat hair, and a honey soaked smile that hides layers and layers of secrets yet teases with unspoken promises that interests Harry’s curiosity ever so much but the lad has the talent to pull back just when Harry is ready to break away, dragging the Kingsman agent further towards him.
But the thing about Harry Hart is that he is professional and deadly efficient with what he does. He has the utmost control of both himself and the situation, because that’s what he does. That’s what makes him the best.
That is, until he somehow finds himself encountering the young man, Eggsy as he later found out his name, time and time again.
It’s logical for him to become suspicious as well as Merlin who happens to be his handler for this mission, so they both do a back up check on this kid, making sure that there isn’t anything else going on behind these so called random encounters.
They find nothing.
I see Eggsy in this story being one of the very low-key opposing agents in where he is only called on special occasions, which he isn’t even placed on the roster. The only connection he has is down a long vine of people, ending all where he is indebted to these people. Probably either for “saving” him at one point of his life, or where his sister and mother are threatened that if he doesn’t behave whenever they call on him, their blood is on his hands. And no way in hell would he ever let that happen. So this is probably a dance that he has done for this organization for years.
Until he meets this one bloke named Harry.
And yeah, que in a slow burn involving lots of flirting, pining, questioning, and distractions. A whole ton of distractions, where the two almost forget their mission objective, that probably involve one or both of them having to face one another in combat at some point. Or multiple points. I see even when Eggsy’s or Harry’s cover is blown, they will still try to talk to the other, try to understand just /why/ they are doing what they are doing, and maybe see that there is something more to this mission than what they had initially thought.
I don’t even know anymore, just have Hartwin feels and I wrote a lot for an idea again…woops.
Kingsman prompt: Kingsman agents + The game of Twister. That's it. That's the prompt. That and Eggsy so owning everyone because of his gymnastics background, something that Harry ends up appreciating quite well either up close (somehow Eggsy pulled him in to playing) or from afar.
