4.30.2026 — We started tonight’s class by reviewing ~지 말다 and one response was “치킨을 먹지 마세요” and of course the professor asks what is the meaning (무슨 뜻이에요?) and the 열심히 공부하는 girl with the high pitch voice yelled “DON’T EAT THE CHICKEN!!” in such a cheery tone lmao. So of course I will now be using that phrase out of context whenever I am able ㅋㅋ.

Vocabulary

Korean Vocabulary by Evita (link)

(this link goes to her Anki page that you can download and import on your own anki to use it)

What I personally did was import it into my anki, export it as a txt. file and then pasted it on an excel file. So in that way I have the list of all the vocabulary for a better self-control and I copy them in my memrise deck. On excel I highlight in yellow the words I already know and in green the ones I don't know and I need to add to my vocabulary deck.

This deck has over 5000 words so you will use it for a good while hahah.

Talk to me in Korean (TTMIK) Lessons

I was using the Korean in Grammar In Use books (I finished the first one and I started the first chapter of the second one) and I highly recommend them but right now I'm really busy with college so I had to squish my time to study Korean. That's why I decided to use the lessons TTMIK offers since they are short and I can do them faster.

I finished this book a few days ago and it was really helpful now that I'm more advanced in my learning (I tried to use it when I just started and it was impossible for my brain to remember the phrases and make them make sense).

Vocab deck (link)

This deck is made by me with all the resources I have used so far for vocabulary til now. The levels are divided in 1000 words each cause I think that helped better with my organization. If you decide to use it, I hope it can be helpful for you ^^

Hanja deck (link)

I made this one using the guide of Hanja made by How To Study Korean (link). It's a great guide, and I recommend it if you are interested on learning some hanja. My deck has 260 hanjas that I found the most useful and interesting. Right now I'm not studying hanja anymore cause I think the ones I learned are enough according to the level where I am now, and I wanna use that time to learn more things in Korean properly. That's why, if you wanna learn them all I recommend you the guide made by How To Study Korean.

I hope this can be truly helpful for anyone who needs it. I will try my harderst to post more often, specially lessons and vocabulary lists. 보다 = To see (뵙다 is a polite way to say 보다)

같이 = Together

공부하다 = to study

다니다 = to go like routine (usually used for school, church, library etc.)

대학 = University

어디= Where

복잡하다 = Complex , Complicate

* 어디 가는 길이세요? = “Where were you heading to?”

* 저는 _____에서 태어났어요 = “I was born in ______”

Ex) 저는 한국에서 태어났어요 / 저는 호주에서 태어났어요

*(similar expression) 저는 _____에서 자랐어요 = “I have grown up in _____”

Ex) 저는 영국에서 자랐어요 / 저는 터키에서 자랐어요

[KOREAN VOCABULARY] Commonly used expressions

Let's start the week light with some commonly used expressions in Korean. If this is the first time you've seen these expressions then don't forget to write them down together with the examples for future revision.

1. 고민이 많다: have a lot on one's mind - 그는 요즘 일과 아이들 문제로 고민이 많다. He has many worries about his job and his children these days.

2. 두말하면 잔소리: It goes without saying that... - 환경보호가 중요함은 두말하면 잔소리다. It goes without saying that the protection of the environment is important.

3. 눈이 높다: have high standards/expectations, aim high - 그는 눈이 높아서 웬만한 여자는 성에 차지 않는다. His standard for women is so high that he cannot be satisfied with any normal girl.

4. 고비가 왔다: a crucial moment has come - 그녀의 커리어에 고비가 왔고, 그녀는 이직을 할지 결정해야만 한다. A crucial moment has come in her career, and she must decide whether to move companies.

My Final Presentation for my 2001 Class.

This was in my drafts from a few years ago. This is my final spoken presentation on the differences between how America and Korea celebrate Christmas, Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, and spoke on a few Korean celebrations.

The parenthesis are helpful for pronunciation of the words due to ㅇ placement. We had to present it with a powerpoint and memorize the script. I got a 98 on the presentation. 💜

안녕하세요 저는 렉시입니다.

제 프로젝트는 한국의 휴일을 (휴이를) 미국휴일과 비교하는 것입니다 (거십니다).

미국의 크리스마스는 가족을 (가조글) 위한 휴일입니다. 사람들은 집에서 쉬고 축구를 봅니다. 어떤 사람들은(사람드른) 일도 합니다.

크리스마스는 매우 종교적인(종교저긴) 날입니다 .

하지만, 한국에서는 크리스마스를 연인(여닌)과 함께 보냅니다. 선물은(선무른) 그다지 종교적이지도 않아요 (아나요).

큰 나무나 장식이 없습니다.

또 다른 한국의 휴일은 (휴이른)추석입니다. 올해 추석은 9월 13일 (구월 십삼일)입니다. 12일 (십이일)부터 14일(십사일)까지 기념합니다. 많은 사람들이 조상님의 묘소에 방문하고 차례를 지냅니다.

미국에도 비슷한 휴일이 (휴이리) 있어요. 바로 추수감사절이에요. 미국에서는 항상 11월(십일월)의 마지막 목요일입니다. 이 날은 가족의 날이고 다함께 미식축구를 봅니다.

한국의 특별한 휴일로 5월 5일 (오월 오일) 어린이날이 있어요.

이 날에 부모들은(부모드른) 아이들에게 즐거움과 선물을(서무를) 줍니다. 부모들은 (부모드른) 아이들이( 아이드리)건강하기를 바랍니다.

미국도 6월 9일(유월 구일)에 어린이날이 (어린이니리) 있는데 그렇게 인기 있지는 않습니다.
