There are several series on my to-bind list and I had no idea how to approach a project like that.  So in my time-honored tradition I just decided to dive in and see what happened along the way.  The Searching Ceremonies were a nice middle ground in the number of stories/volumes so it became my guinea pig.

I ended up with five flatback volumes bound with mystery Amazon bookcloth, some scrapbook paper I’ve had in my stash for about 15 years, and shiny blue HTV from the Dollar Tree, and I’m pleased as punch with the results.

Typesetting was the most challenging part of the process but also the most visually uninteresting.  I went with a very no-frills look with Times New Roman as the body text and Bodoni for the titles and headers.  If you ever try something like this in a word processor like LibreOffice Writer I would recommend getting all your settings exactly right with the first story, then save a copy and use that to copy/paste the second story in for volume two.  At that point it should just need a few tweaks to get both typesets looking alike.  Do not decide in the middle of formatting the fourth story that you actually don’t like the border you put around the titles and chapter headings, and then have to go back and remove them and fix the spacing on four books.  Ask me how I found this out…

(The borders weren’t too bad, but they gave the whole thing a 1950s academic journal vibe, which wasn’t the look I was going for.)

Fic rec! 28K Sterek 

Summary: Derek knows that Stiles is too young for him, but Stiles doesn't agree. Eight years after Derek rejects him due to the age gap, they meet again where Derek has settled in Wyoming as a ranch hand, and Stiles is the new deputy, and still pissed as hell about the way Derek turned him down. 

Comments: I always enjoy KouriArashi’s work. This one is sweet, with Derek having sorta isolated himself but still keeping in contact with Scott, and Stiles maybe/maybe not moving out there to see if things could work. There’s a lot of bad blood and nosy neighbors at the beginning, but this is ultimately a sweet second-chance romance.

So 2025 was the year I started binding my favourite fics. Summer saw me frenetically typesetting everything I knew I would want to read again and waiting for the book cloth and supplies to arrive, and these are the first three.

Beset by unforeseen issues

(no matter what I do my printer will not compromise on at least an inch border of white space and I do not have a machine that cuts multiple papers and apparently am incapable of cutting in a straight line (do not ask me to show you DoM’s paper state) plus my old refurbed cricut does NOT cope with vinyl so it’s foil only babes oh and the amount of swearing every time I realised I forgot to press ‘mirror’ not to mention the many MANY spelling mistakes I’ve made on the covers!! 🥴)

I don’t think I do too badly for my first ever proper book binds. I’m not going to reach out to the authors just yet (not at least until I can consistently do better than this) Here’s hoping I claw the fixation back in order to use up the rest of the supplies! (Especially as I have something like 20 other typesets waiting to be printed from the summer)

Final thing, the bookmarks are from my other fixation last year; learning to tablet weave!

Ahhh, yes!! Love being able to rec some fun sterek fics. Weirdly enough, most of the long sterek fics I read are more angsty than fluffy, but here are a few of my favorite ones that give me RWRB vibes!
