The Wedding Date {M}
Park Jinyoung x Reader Genre: Fluff / Smut Warnings: Explicit mature content Word Count: 11,964 Summary: It’s your best friend’s wedding and in order to avoid all those sympathetic condolences because your ex is showing up with his pregnant girlfriend you hire an actor to be your boyfriend. Jinyoung plays his part to perfection. Everyone including your parents are charmed by him, the only problem is, you can’t tell what’s real and what’s not.
You should be happy. Full of bliss and joy while in celebration of your best friend’s wedding festivities. However, there were three things on your mind.
1.Your ex fiance is the best man
2. Two months from now would have been your wedding
3.You hired an actor from the classifieds online to be your date for the whole weeks worth of activities.
Yes, an actor. Not some escort, though others would consider it the same thing. Technically you were paying him money to be your ‘boyfriend’. However, you would consider it giving him money to play a part. A few hours before attending the first lunch you planned to meet him for the first time. You sat in the cafe, already dressed. Your outfit of choice done with your ex in mind. The coffee in front of you remained untouched and cooled due to nerves.
You weren’t like this. You didn’t know you’d be desperate enough to stoop to this. However while going through the seating arrangement and guest list a few nights ago you saw that your ex was bringing a plus one. Not just any plus one though. That sent you into a turmoil. Sure, you could show up at the wedding single but after everything you weren’t ready. You needed someone by your side. Even if it was for show.
“Y/N?”
With your mind wandering you easily startle. Glancing up to the voice that called your name. His headshots didn’t do justice. He was tall, broad shouldered, slim waist and toned. Naturally handsome. Not at all what you were expecting of an actor yet his appearance had it make sense.
“Hi,” is all you can manage to say as you’re struck with awe and at the same time worry. How on earth would you be able to get away with having him as your boyfriend? In other words, talk about out of your league in other circumstances.
He grins, “Wow, you are not at all what I was expecting,” he says as he takes a seat in front of you.
He knew it too. Immediately you feel self conscious, straightening out your dress and blindly fiddling with your hair.
He sees the change in your expression, “Oh no, I didn’t mean it in a bad way. It’s a good thing for me,” he explains. “I mean, when someone hires someone to be their date you automatically expect.. y’know.” He stutters as he tries to explain, scratching the back of his head, “but you- you’re beautiful. I don’t know why you’d need someone to be your date,” he chuckles , dropping his hand and you’re taken aback by his bashfulness, “Can I start over?”
You laugh and nod.
“Hi, I’m Jinyoung,” he holds out his hand.
“Y/N,” you smile taking his hand and shaking it.
He leans forward along the table, “Alright director, let's hear it.”
You raise your eyebrow, “director?”
He grins and shrugs, “You’re calling all the shots, guiding me and since I’m an actor. You know that makes you kind of like the director,”
You nod at his point, pursing your lips. “I see,” there’s a pause between you two. “I’ve never done anything like this before so I’m not sure what I should be doing…” you say.
Jinyoung eases back into his seat, “Let’s start with why you want to do this,”
“Let’s see,” you ponder, “My best friend is getting married, the best man is my ex fiancé who I was supposed to marry two months from now. I’ll be walking down the aisle towards him not as I originally imagined. He’s in a new relationship and from what I hear his new girlfriend in tow is pregnant. Speaking of which I hear she’s six months pregnant which mean he was fucking her while we were together,” you don’t miss a beat, “So all in all I don’t want to be the elephant in the room that everyone pities,” you let out all in one breath and you realize how ridiculous this all really is.
“So where do I come into play?”
“You’ll be my boyfriend. We’ll put on an act that I’m completely head over heels for you and vice versa and that I’ve moved on,” You explain, cringing to yourself. You must come off as desperate and pathetic. Jinyoung is silent and you fear he’ll back out from how ridiculous this all is.
“Alright so tell me about myself,” he finally breaks into a smile.
Once again you’re confused, “Shouldn’t you be telling me about yourself?”
Jinyoung laughs, “I mean, who do you want me to be? What kind of boyfriend? If others start asking me about myself what do you want me to tell them?”
“Oh,” you fidget in your seat, “I never really thought of that,” you feel the stress come about again.
“What’s your type?” Jinyoung asks,
“Uh…” you mull it over. Finally you let out a laugh, “This is going to be harder than I thought,”
Jinyoung grinned, easing back in his chair. “I can be whoever you want me to be,” he says.
Just hours before your big debut as a couple you two had run a quick crash course on your relationship. You two met at a coffee shop. Which was technically true. Together for a few months now. You gave a brief overview of the basics that your partner should know about you. Likes, dislikes, favourite foods, movies, even going so far in detail that he knew what your dominant hand was. In the end, you didn’t want Jinyoung to change so much about himself. Just from the conversation and encounter you deemed him to be polite, even charming. To be honest if you hadn’t hired him and if under different circumstances you might have even considered him real dating material and a potential love interest.
That being said, you had established some ground rules that seemed to have amused Jinyoung once you brought it up to him. First and foremost no sex. You weren’t paying for someone to sleep with. However, sleeping in the same bed would be inevitable as the wedding’s activities took place out of town and lodging for the wedding party just happened to be at the groom’s parent’s estate. When you mentioned “chaste” kisses Jinyoung chuckled, the corner of his eye’s wrinkling. He was even more amused when you said “only if necessary”. Even saying that had you blushing and shy.
“Back to sex,” you continued, “It won’t just be me you’re not having sex with but I ask that you refrain from having any sexual relations with any of the wedding guests, staff, you name it during this week. The last thing I need is to have another beau cheating on me,” You say sternly.
Jinyoung looks at you intently, “Whether in a real relationship or a fake one. I am not a cheater,” he says. “If we’re talking ground rules then I’d like to add that this is strictly business,” you nod in agreement. “However,” Jinyoung adds, “This doesn’t mean we can’t be friends. I think in order for this to work we need to be at ease with one another,” He had a point. What makes a relationship more authentic than friendship?
You realized no matter the prepping, the ground rules established, the nerves would never go away. Jinyoung had volunteered to drive which you were appreciative of considering you needed some time to collect yourself. You weren’t sure if it was the curved roads or the anxiety that made you want to throw up but regardless you closed your eyes while Jinyoung, a complete stranger, drove you to the estate.
By the time you arrive to the estate you have an endless list of how things could go awry. All of which happened to include hospitalization and natural disasters. Your stomach lurched as the windy road curved up the hill. Jinyoung let out a low whistle as the trees broke and the view of the estate came into view. You even straightened up in your seat, nose almost pressing against the glass in awe.
You already knew Mark and his family were well off however you may have underestimated. Your best friend hadn’t mentioned how big it really was or the fact that it was basically a vineyard. It was no wonder the wedding was being held there and that they were accommodating the whole bridal party and a few others. As you pulled up your stomach lurched again and you knew it definitely wasn’t road sickness. You thought you and Jinyoung could arrive discreetly and have some more time to get yourselves settled before the initial late lunch welcome but you were wrong.
“How good are you with meeting parents?”
“Let’s just say I’ve heard many times over that I’m the ideal son in-law and that’s also coming from parents whose daughters I never even met,” he says cheekily.
“Great, cause you’re about to meet mine,” you swallow nervously as you recognize the two figures unloading their car at the front. You should have remembered that you get your timely punctuality from your parents. “Oh god, we didn’t prepare for this. I thought we’d have more time. Maybe if you just keep driving past them they won’t recognize me or my car,” you panic. You hadn’t even told your parents you were bringing a date. You and Jinyoung were literally about to face the wolves.
“Relax Y/N. It will be alright. Besides, if we can fool your parents then everyone else will be a breeze,” Jinyoung says. You started to realize that Jinyoung was logical, reassuring and his tone and the way he talked had a way of making you feel at ease. He made a point, if you couldn’t get past your parents who knew you the best. How could you get past everyone else?
When the car comes to a halt right behind theirs you take a deep breath. Jinyoung places his hand on your knee in comfort, “We’ve got this,”
Perhaps you shouldn’t have said “Hi,” when stepping out of the car. You two may have gone unnoticed while your mom was in the middle of nagging your dad.
“Oh Y/N! You’ve arrived too. Isn’t this place gorgeous?” She pulls you into a tight embrace, “Your dad almost took the wrong turn because he wasn’t listening to me and on top of that he forgot to pack the small bag that I packed my hats in,” she rolls her eyes, “Oh honey, you’re not going to wear that to the lunch are you?” She says looking at your cocktail dress.
“Ahem,” Jinyoung clears his throat as he rounds the car.
If only you could have captured your mom’s reaction on video. It was the definition of ‘jaw drop’ and the exact reaction you would hope for.
“Hi, Mrs. L/N. My name is Jinyoung, I’m Y/N’s boyfriend,” Jinyoung reaches to shake your shocked mother’s hand. “She told me so much about you but she didn’t tell me where she got her beauty from. Now I know,” he charms.
Your mom giggles, acting like a school girl as she tucks her hair behind her ear. “Y/N never mentioned a boyfriend,” she glares at you.
Jinyoung snugs his arm around your waist, pulling you against him. Your first ever skinship yet it was as if he’d done it hundreds of times to you. He is good was all you could think. You hoped you weren’t blushing. “You know y/n, always secretive. It takes a lot of convincing from me to even get her to call me her boyfriend,” Jinyoung laughs.
Your mother nods, “Well, it's great to meet you and we’ll have plenty of time to get to know each other and hear all about your love story,” your mom winks and you knew she was already swept away with Jinyoung. It hadn’t even been five minutes and he had already won her over. “Honey, come meet Y/N’s boyfriend,” she says in excitement.
“Here let me,” Jinyoung says leaving your side. Your dad steps out of the way as Jinyoung pulls out not just one but both of your mother’s over packed luggage from the trunk. He didn’t even grimace from the weight of them of them and, unlike your dad, had carefully set them on the sidewalk with ease.
“Strong man. Jinyoung was it?” your dad says reaching out his hand, probably thankful he didn’t have to pull a back muscle.
Jinyoung nods, “Yes sir,”
Your dad puffs out his chest, straightening his posture for intimidation and taking on the protective father role, “So how long have you been seeing our Y/N?”
“It’s been a few months now,” You answer hurriedly. You can tell your dad was just about to ask another question so you hooked your arm around Jinyoung’s, “We’re going to go find our room. Get all fresh and resettled before lunch,” you say already pulling Jinyoung inside with you. Not even looking back as your parents gape at the two of you.
It was a butler who escorts you two to your designated room. As soon as you’re inside you, quite literally, flop onto the bed. “Oh my god,” you drawl, “That was exhausting, how are we going to do that for a whole week,” you roll over onto your back as you stare up at the cream colored ceiling.
You feel the bed shift. Jinyoung lays beside you, one arm propped as he rests his head against it. “It went well,”
Finally you take in your surroundings. The room was quite big, enough to give each other space. There was even a changing screen that was probably for decoration but you’d probably put to use. Even the bed was big, you didn’t even know there was something larger than a king size. Yet despite the size Jinyoung was right next to you. If you just shifted your leg it would brush his. He was too close for comfort. You sat up, shifting over a bit to create space.
“Tell me about your ex,” Jinyoung requests unmoving from his spot.
“College sweethearts, thought he was the one, obviously not,” you shrug.
“But obviously you care enough that you’d go as far as hiring me,” Jinyoung urges for more.
“I am moved on, I think. I won’t really know until I see him.” Which got your nerves all riled up again because your encounter would be in an hour or so. “Like I said, it’s just nice to have you here so I don’t get those sympathetic ‘How are you doing?’ You’re my backbone,” you explain.
“You don’t seem to be the type that’s passive,” Jinyoung states.
“I guess in a way the breakup, the whole cheating and pregnancy thing took something from me,” you shrug. You let out a laugh, “Like my self confidence for starters,”
Jinyoung’s brows furrow. He’s about to say something until you hear a knock on your door. Immediately you look at him, eyes widening. Oh god, you weren’t ready to face your mom again.
“Y/N!” You recognize the voice on the other side of the door and immediately feel relieved as you rush to open it. As soon as it’s open your greeted with a squeal and pulled into a tight embrace.
“It’s happening! I’m getting married, I can’t believe it’s actually happening. You look so good. Where’s your new beau?” She wiggles her eyebrows. Then her attention turns to Jinyoung who's just now starting to sit up on the bed. “Oh, am I interrupting something?” She looks at you and winks. You see Jinyoung blush, clearing his throat.
“Oh shut up,” you roll your eyes.
Your best friend shrugs, “I don’t know what’s…” she pauses, “included in your contract,” She knew everything, in fact, Jinyoung was all her idea. Even so, there was no way you’d be able to hide it from her. You knew her though, she wouldn’t tell a soul not even her new husband.
“Hi,” she finally introduces, “thanks so much for coming to the wedding,”
“My pleasure,” Jinyoung smiles, “Congratulations,”
“Okay! I’m off! I’ll see you two downstairs. Can’t wait to see the look on your ex's face when you walk in together,” she pulls you into another embrace as she whispers in your ear, “That smile alone is enough to get your panties wet,”
“See you later!” You push her out the door, feeling the warmth rise to your cheeks. Once she’s out you turn to face Jinyoung. He smiles and the color continues to flush your cheeks. She’s right.
“You can go ahead and freshen up first,” you offer.
“Are you sure?” Jinyoung asks already reaching for the buttons of his dress shirt. His first button comes undone.
“Yes, go for it,” your voice squeaks. “I’ll probably take longer than you anyways,” You say as a second button came undone. You’d probably need a long cold shower feeling like a hormonal teenager. When Jinyoung heads into the bathroom and you hear the water turn on you collapse back onto the bed. It was going to be a long week.
You don’t know why they call it a late lunch when it’s basically cutting into dinner time. You managed to do a quick fix of your hair, also tried not to drool when Jinyoung emerged from the bathroom all dressed up. It was simple. You’ve seen dozens of men, including your ex wear a simple dress shirt and khakis but Jinyoung looked like he just emerged from a catalogue of Hugo boss.
The closer you get to the outdoor terrace and the muffled sounds of voices and piano playing the nerves resurface. As if knowing Jinyoung grabs your hand, holding it tightly.
“You’ve got this Y/N. You’ve got me to lean on,” he encourages.
You nod, finding comfort in the warmth of his hand as it holds yours. You recognize a few of your friend’s relatives. Growing up together you had gotten to know them quite well. Just as expected the view from the terrace were beautiful vineyards, mixed with a garden courtyard that included a sculpted fountain. You walk in hand and hand with Jinyoung, as directors would normally say, action.
“Y/N!” You hear your mother's voice immediately as if she’s been waiting for you to make an entrance. “Oh, you didn’t change,” she tsks as she approaches you.
“That would be my fault,” Jinyoung speaks immediately, “I convinced her not to change. The color suits her and I think she’s beautiful,” Jinyoung snugs his arm around you just as he had before.
With Jinyoung’s statement you can physically see your mother’s thoughts change, “Oh yes I suppose you’re right. It is very flattering on her,” she gleams.
“And I have to say Mrs. L/N you’re looking quite radiant yourself,” He compliments.
Your mother blushes, “Come you two, you have to say hi to Mrs. Lim,” You tried to protest but your mother was already hooked to Jinyoung’s arm and dragging him across the terrace.
Just like your mom, Mrs. Lim is swept away by Jinyoung’s charms. Soon enough, more ladies are surrounding the two of you. There’s swooning and a handful of giggling and lots of playful touching. You’re almost beaming with pride, basking in the glory that you had the hottest date. When Jinyoung was finally introduced to your best friend’s father, the two had gotten along and easily slid into conversation as if they had known each other for a while. It was easy to say Jinyoung blended in well.
“Oh god,” you say when you notice a certain someone making a beeline towards you.
Jinyoung turns his attention to you, “Is it your ex?”
“Worse,” you groan.
You’re greeted with boobs and a high pitched giggle as your name leaves her lips, “Y/N how lovely to see you!” Her words dripped with fakeness.
“Wow, Janine,” was all you could say as you kept your arms by your side trying your best to sound as enthusiastic as she was.
“I know, they just got done,” she proudly shimmies to flaunt her chest, looking at the corner of her eye to who stood beside you.
Some describe this type of relationship as “frenemy”. Friendly towards each other yet in a superficial, don’t really like one another type of way. Always remaining civil despite the shade thrown at one another. Janine in latent terms was interesting. Loves thinking she’s the center of attention and someone that thinks she attracts all the men. You knew it was bound for her to come running to Jinyoung.
“I heard your date is the life of the party, auntie keeps going on and on about him so I just had to come see for myself,” Oh yeah, and she’s your best friend’s cousin. As if on cue she hooks her arm around Jinyoung’s pulling him towards her. “I can see what all the talk is about. I’m Janine,” she introduces.
You tug him back towards you and realize that you may end up in a tug of war against her.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Y/N’s boyfriend Jinyoung,” he says as he squirms out of her hold and, in the most satisfying way, snugs his arm around your waist in unity. You feel smug as you see her little pout. “Can I get you something to drink babe?” Jinyoung asks.
Babe. You never discussed pet names, in fact, your ex rarely called you anything. It was something you weren’t used to but coming from Jinyoung it was something you could get used too. You had to remind yourself it was all for show. You smile and nod. Then he does something you for sure didn’t expect. It was a sweet and innocent gesture. A kiss on your temple before he leaves but you weren’t used to this kind of affection. Especially in front of others. It was so casual, so simple, yet it left you giddy.
Janine’s jaw drops slightly, she doesn’t miss a beat as soon as he’s out of hearing distance. “Where did you meet him?” Emphasizing the ‘you’part of the conversation because obviously Jinyoung was someone out of your league.
“We met at a coffee shop,” you say as nonchalant as you can, once again, partly true.
“Looks like I’m frequenting the wrong places,” she mutters as she watches Jinyoung at the bar, gnawing at her bottom lip.
“Y/N,” your best friend calls your name and saves you. When she comes running over, it wasn’t to save you but to warn you. She pulls you away to the corner of the terrace. “Your ex is here and baby momma in tow. Look at her she’s huge!”
You feel a slight sense of panic. You haven’t seen your ex since the breakup, didn’t even know what the woman he was with now looked like. Your attention is turned towards the entrance where you see your ex. No butterfly feelings, no rush of emotions. He looked tired, bags under his eyes, hair was disheveled. You didn’t know if you should feel relieved that he looked far worse than when you two were together or if you should feel sympathy. His ‘baby momma’ was huge, belly wise. Yet you were expecting some radiant glow but was faced with a frown. Other’s had also turned their attention to the new couple that just walked into the room. You saw your mom’s scowl and no doubt she was whispering to Mrs. Lim the same things you observed. You were pleased with yourself, no outlying feelings. Not even anger.
“You okay?” You best friend asks.
You nod, “Surprisingly yes,”
“In any case, I’m glad Jinyoung is here with you,” she says.
You glance over at Jinyoung who stands by the bar talking with Mark. He holds two glasses in his hand. He catches your gaze, an easy smile over his face as he winks at you before turning back with Mark. A part of you, a big part, wished this was real.
As you had assumed, lunch had moved into dinner, dinner faded into the late night. By the time you get back to your room you were slightly buzzed from all the wedding themed cocktails. Satisfied, you kick of your heels. Falling back onto the bed with your arms spread.
“That went better than expected. We might actually pull this off,” You glance over at Jinyoung whose removing his watch, now starting to undo the cuff links of his dress shirt. You roll onto your elbow as you watch him. “Seems like you and Mark hit it off,”
Jinyoung smiled, “He’s pretty cool. He suggested that after he gets back from his honeymoon we all take a trip to the mountains,”
The way he said it made it seem like it was plausible. Like real lovers discussing future plans. It only made your stomach knot and feel guilty Mark didn’t know he wasn’t going to get his vacay with Jinyoung.
Days had passed and in that time you and Jinyoung had easily fallen into a friendship. The first initial bouts of awkwardness between you two gone. You had to give him most of the credit for that. He was kind, thoughtful, made you feel at ease. He even had your mother wrapped around his finger. Your own father couldn’t calm her from her incessant rants the way Jinyoung could in seconds. It seemed as though everyone was charmed and captivated by him. The days were busy, lawn activities, nature walks, the whole lot, each day followed by cocktail hours and tipsy evenings. Most nights you and Jinyoung would stumble back to the room giggling and teasing one another. All except for one night where your best friend and you left dinner early and had a sleepover in your room. That morning you were surprised to wake up to her instead of Jinyoung. Then during brunch burst out laughing when you found out him and Mark ended up doing the same thing. There were no boundaries even the pillow barricade between you two had come down.
You laid in bed wide awake. The quiet of the night and darkness over the room. Jinyoung sleeping peacefully beside you. Your comforted by his presence, knowing he’s there. You reflected on your days with him. How Mark and Jinyoung instantly became friends, your parents with Jinyoung only after the first meeting. Hopefully they didn’t get too attached being that this would all come to an end. When Jinyoung turned in his sleep his arm fell across your waist. Don’t get attached, you reminded yourself. Yet as you drifted off to sleep you curled into the warmth of his body.
“Ow,”
You’re woken by the sound of a man’s voice. In the state of confusion and morning grogginess you’re startled by your surroundings and the ‘stranger’ who lay beside you. Then you remember, you’re in bed with someone you paid to be your pretend boyfriend, you’re in an estate and you’re currently in his arms and feeling that your elbow was kind of jabbed into his abdomen that’s probably why Jinyoung woke.
“Sorry,” You shift. You’re still pressed against his body, his arm still around your waist.
“It’s okay,” he murmurs.
The sound of his morning voice had to be one of the most attractive things you’ve heard. It’s quiet for a moment and you wonder if he’s fallen back asleep. You lay as still as possible in case he had. Countless worries in your head. Did you look okay? Did you snore in your sleep? You cringed at the thought of possible morning breath.
“What’s the plan for today?” He asks groggily, his arm still around you.
“All I know is that there’s dinner in the East Wing tonight,” you laugh at how ridiculous and posh it all sounds.
“Hmm,”Jinyoung responds and you wonder if he’s falling asleep again. He shifts, not farther from you but closer. He’s practically spooning you, his face nuzzled in your hair. This wasn’t the only time you two had woken up snuggled against each other. Nor was it the only time you two hadn’t pulled away from each other. Your ex and you couldn’t handle cuddling each other. In the morning you’d wake with a gap between yourselves and back towards each other. You never believed that people could actually fall asleep, let alone be comfortable like that. Now you believed that cuddling could actually be comfy. The way you simply melded into Jinyoung’s body gave you hope for cuddling. In fact most mornings when you two woke like this you didn’t want to leave.
“You’re beautiful in the morning too,” Jinyoung murmurs sweetly, catching you off guard.
You blush, he was just being nice. He always says sweet things to you. It was hard to believe that there were actually guys out in the world like this. Were these lines he said before? You understood him saying these things to you in front of others, but he even continued to say things like this when it’s just the two of you. “Do you take tips for flattery?” You joke, trying your best to hold back and not fall for his charm.
If only you could take back what you said, wondering if you had insulted him as he lets out a deep sigh and pulls away from you. Rolling onto his back. You shift too, now both of you are staring at the ceiling though you wish you were back to the sweet moment just before. You cursed yourself for ruining the moment even though it was supposed to mean nothing. Strictly business, this was what he was here for.
“I finally met your ex,” Jinyoung speaks, “Figured it was him considering he was the only one with a pregnant significant other,” he looks at you, “Are you okay?”
“I am. More than I thought I would be. It’s just hard to move past it all with everyone asking me ‘if I’m alright’ or ‘warning me whenever he comes into a room’, telling me ‘I deserve better’,” you shrug.
“You do deserve better,” Jinyoung says quietly.
There it was again, his sweet words.. Making you feel special, reassured. But with his words came confusion. He barely knew you, sorta. You two did have a run down on all your interests but hardly enough to say he knew you best out of everyone. You look at him and he’s still staring. Your pulse quickens. How was it that Jinyoung was able to make you feel so many things in such a short time? With your ex it had been slow. A low simmer throughout your relationship. With the way Jinyoung looked at you, touched you, everything boiled. Heated down to your core and you weren’t sure how to handle it without breaking your own rules, without crossing boundaries.
“Y/N, I -“ The knock on the door interrupts Jinyoung.
“Who is it?” You call out.
“It’s me!” Your best friend answers. “Come on Y/N get dressed we’ve got wedding stuff to do!”
This was the second time your best friend interrupted you two. The timing uncanny. You wonder if you would ever find out what Jinyoung wanted to say both times. If it was important than for sure he’d tell you but considering he didn’t say anything else you pushed it aside.
At the wedding parlour you sat with champagne in your hands surrounded by a tearful mother and giddy bridesmaids and an annoying Janine. Your thoughts distracted. Jinyoung was with Mark and the other groomsmen and guys having a ‘manly’ day. He was by himself with your friends, your father, your ex. In fact it was your first day apart from each other all week. You only hoped everything was going okay. That your dad wasn’t hounding him with too many questions. What if your ex talked to him again? Would he ask intimate questions to compare egos? The anxiousness had you sipping your champagne avidly.
“Thirsty Y/N?” Janine’s voice cuts your thoughts.
“Just tastes good,” you shrug nonchalantly.
“Y’know I’ve been thinking about Jinyoung,” she says.
You glare at her, “Kind of strange thinking of someone else’s boyfriend don’t you think Janine?”
“I just feel like I’ve seen or met him before,” her high pitched voice and the way she says it makes you know she knows something. What it was you weren’t sure. Maybe she saw him in one of those small toothpaste commercials Jinyoung had mentioned before. Your stomach turned at the thought of her actually skimming the classifieds.
“Hmm strange,” you try and play it off. When you go to take another sip you find your champagne flute empty. “I’m gonna get a refill,” you say using that as a perfect excuse to dodge more of her questions.
By the time your friend comes out your buzzed. Heck, that whole bottle of champagne might as well have been just for you. You were drowning a mix of nerves and Janine hounding you with a bottle of bubbly.
“You’re so beautiful,” you tear up as you embrace your best friend.
“I was so nervous that this final fitting wouldn’t go so well. All night I couldn’t sleep because I was worried I gained weight or that they would cut the hem too short,” she says giddy as she looks in the mirror. “Now all I have to worry about is making sure Mark is at the altar the day of,” her eyes well up.
“Oh trust me, Mark is so going to be there and you’re going to take his breath away,” you reassure.
Your best friend grins, “Let’s celebrate with more champagne!” She signals one of the ladies.
“Don’t mind if I do,” you hiccup, basking in your best friend’s happiness with her.
He’s the first thing you see when you and the girls arrive back at the estate. The guys all coming up from the terrace, laughing. Mark has his arm slung over Jinyoung’s shoulder. Was it the alcohol that made your stomach flip or was it seeing Jinyoung? You were sloshed. Your gait unsteady, face flushed.
Mark’s the first one to notice, “The girls are back,” he says immediately walking to your best friend and kissing her. Jinyoung’s gaze immediately sets on you and you feel your pulse flutter.
You hear Janine’s voice from behind you and being on edge you decide to put on a show. Waving enthusiastically to Jinyoung you all but skip over to him. Your caught in his arms as he’s taken aback, bracing the two of you as you almost trip.
“Hi boyfriend,” You hiccup wrapping your arms around his neck.
Jinyoung grins, “Are you drunk?” He asks brushing the tousled strands of hair in your face.
“More like an alcoholic,” Janine mutters as she walks by, “She drank the whole bottle to herself. Classy,”
You stick out your tongue at her before directing your attention back to Jinyoung. “Did you miss me?” You hiccup.
“Gross,” Janine rolls her eyes as she stalks off. You could almost see the green monster of jealousy on her back.
Jinyoung kisses your forehead, “Of course,”
By the time he says that Janine and everyone else are already out of earshot. No one else was around to hear him but you figured he was keeping it for show.
Your arm is still wrapped around him. “So how’d the day go?”
“It was fun. I even beat your ex in arm wrestling,” Jinyoung grins.
Your jaw drops, “You did?” You didn’t say it out of disbelief that he beat him because you had no doubt Jinyoung could. It was more of the fact that he was in that situation to begin with.
“Your dad convinced us. Kept going on and on about pride and worthiness and obviously I had to defend my girl’s honour,” Jinyoung teases, “Later, your dad gave me the sex talk,”
You groan resting your forehead against Jinyoung’s shoulder. “I’m so embarrassed,”
Jinyoung tightens his hold around you, giving a little squeeze for reassurance. “I like your dad and all your friends,”
“I’ll pay you more for having to deal with that,” You look up at him grinning.
Jinyoung frowns, his hold loosening. “There’s no need. Like I said I had fun with them,” his tone short. There it was again. Whenever you remind yourselves this was a transaction he’d always pull away. Literally. All of it was too confusing.
You brush his tone aside trying not to read into it. “So do you think you could beat me in an arm wrestle?” You say trying to keep the mood light.
There’s a brief pause before Jinyoung relaxes the smile returning to his face again. “It’d be a close call for sure,” he squeezes your arm. You relax in his arms feeling the buzz cloud your head. “Looks like you could use a nap before dinner,” he says.
You nod in agreement. Already feeling Jinyoung wrap his arm around your waist for support. You lean into his arms as the two of you walk together back to your room. “So what else did you guys do?” You ask.
“Played tennis,”
“You play tennis? Is there something you can’t do?”
Jinyoung shrugs, “I was doing good until Mark’s old college friend showed up,” when you arrive in your room Jinyoung locks the door. He places his warm hands on your shoulders and gently turns you around. “How about a bath?” His voice is low, soft. Your heart quickens, your bodies so close that one centimeter back and you’d be leaning against him. It’s tempting to just lean, to feel your body pressed against his.
“Together?” You stutter.
You hear him chuckle. “Tempting,” his hand trails down your arms. “I was suggesting I draw you a bath so you can relax and sober up,”
“Oh, okay well I’m just going to go drown now,” you pull away from him embarrassed.
Jinyoung grabs your hand and pulls you back to him as he chuckles. “Are we going to break one of our ground rules?”
Your face flushes, “No I..” you stutter.
“As much as I would love to,” he rests his forehead against yours, “I don’t take advantage of drunk women,” he lays a chaste kiss on your forehead. Before you could even say or question anything he’s pushing you towards the bathroom. “Make sure you lock the door,” he grins when you gape at him. “I don’t trust myself,” he winks as he shuts the door.
You do as you’re told. Locking the door in front of you as you take a deep breath to collect yourself. Was this all fake? Was it all part of his role? You soaked in the tub as your head filled with thoughts and your body coiled with lust. He was right, the bath was sobering you up but it didn’t help clear your confusion. You could admit that you were attracted to him. Everything about him drew you in. Seeing him with your friends and family made you like him even more. He sparked something in you, something that you may have not even experienced yourself. Have you ever wanted like this? No matter how many times you reminded yourself that this wasn’t real, your feelings were. You liked him. Liked being with him. Liked the way he made you feel and how in such a short amount of time he was already bringing back your confidence, mending the little pieces of yourself that your ex broke. He plays tennis, beats your ex in arm wrestles and somehow manages to get along with your dad. He knows how to diffuse your mom and hang with the guys and charm the ladies yet still make you feel like you’re the only one in his sights. He knows exactly what to say to you to calm your nerves and say sweet words without you having to pry it out of him. It was all too fast. Not once did you expect this to happen when you first decided to do this. As bad as it sounds he was just supposed to be your arm candy. Just something for you to flaunt and show off to let everybody know you’re fine and to back off. He was much more than that now. Your parents loved him, your friends loved him and you loved -
“Oh god,” you groan at the realization. Sinking lower into the water as you rub both hands over your face as if trying to wash away what you just realized.
There’s a knock on the door followed by the sound of his voice. “Y/N?”
You sit straight up, grabbing the sides of the porcelain tub. Water splashed everywhere, spilling over the tub. There’s another knock, this time a little more urgent.
“Y/N?” His voice more panicked.
You hop out of the tub, grabbing the nearest towel as you unlock the door quickly opening it. Your faced with Jinyoung’s surprised face. “What is it?”
“It’s quarter to six and you were taking a long time…” his words trail off as he eyes follow the water droplets down your collarbone “I just hoped you didn’t drown or pass out or something,” he swallows.
You tighten the towel around your chest gripping it tight because a big part of you just wanted it to fall and see where it went from there. “Sorry did you say it’s almost six?” You couldn’t believe you had been in the tub for that long.
Jinyoung raises his hand. His index finger swiping a droplet of water just above where you gripped the towel. “Mhm,” he answers distracted.
Your heart sped, mouth going dry and your fingers cramped from how hard you gripped the towel. “Jinyoung?”
His eyes meet yours and you notice a change in his eyes. Dark, heated. For a split second you’re ready to let go of all your rules. “Can you pass me my dress hanging in the closet,” you swallow dryly.
He pauses for a second and you wonder, even hope, that he’d forget everything as well and just take you. His hand drops and you breathe. Partly relieved, the other disappointment. Of course he wouldn’t. He was a gentlemen, poised and he also established right from the get go that this was strictly business, friends only. He doesn’t say anything as he walks to the closet.
“Thanks,” You murmur as you take it from his hand. Then you shut the bathroom door, locking it once again.
When you emerge from the bathroom Jinyoung is changed also. If you weren’t already wound up from earlier then surely you were now. You felt a little pathetic. Too hormonal. Even when you changed all you could think of was sex. How long had it been? Not even that, when was the last time you actually orgasmed? Was it wrong for you to assume that Jinyoung would be good at it like he was everything else?
“Shall we?” Jinyoung’s voice interrupts your thirty second fantasy of you ripping his dress shirt open.
“Yup,” your voice cracks and Jinyoung cocks his brow.
“Are you feeling okay?” He asks.
You nod frantically, “Just hungry,” you lie as you walk towards the door.
As soon as you open it your faced with Janine. Perfect timing you curse to yourself. She eyes you, her face grimacing. Yet she tried to mask it in front of Jinyoung.
“Little late for dinner aren’t you?” She jabs.
You hook your arm around Jinyoung’s. “We got a little… caught up,” you implied. From the corner of your eye you see Jinyoung’s lips quirk.
Janine rolls her eyes, “Gross,” she mutters under her breath as she walks away.
You wait for her to go ahead. Once she’s out of sight you sigh in relief, unhooking your arms from his. You don’t dare look at him due to embarrassment.
“So what exactly were we caught up with?” Jinyoung chides.
“Getting ready,” You shrug stills avoiding eye contact. “Let’s go?” You start walking but Jinyoung grabs your hand tugging you back towards him.
“Did I mention you look beautiful?” His voice is low.
“No but thank you,” you play it off, hoping Jinyoung didn’t feel the thrill of your pulse.
“Well you’re beautiful, you’re amazing and I need to kiss you.”
You glance around the hall, no one in sight. You give him a puzzled look, “You don’t have to there’s no one around and Janine’s gone - “
“I know. I mean I need to for myself,” he pulls you to him. “Not for anyone else,” he murmurs. He looks into your eyes, his other hand moving to your cheek. You close your eyes at his touch and he kisses you.
Just like that. No preamble, no one to show off to, just you two. You realized that if this was what need feels like then truly you’ve never felt it before. Every bit of you that could was heating, when his tongue grazed yours you felt everything ignite.
How did thirty seconds of contact make you feel like you need to jump on him and rip his clothes off? You wanted, needed, desperately and yearned for more even as he began to pull away.
“You deserve better than your ex,” he murmurs against your lips.
“I know,” your voice is squeaky, “I know,” you sigh as you catch your breath.
He takes a step back, still holding your hand. “I guess we better head down before people send up a search party,”
Luckily dinner hadn’t started but to say you and Jinyoung could just easily slip in without going unnoticed was wrong. As soon as you entered the room your dad swarmed in on him. His arm slung around his shoulder as he pulled Jinyoung towards the bar. Murmuring something about a brand of whiskey that “he would love”. Jinyoung grins over his shoulder at you.
You could use a drink as well. After what happened upstairs, the kiss, you were feeling all hot and bothered. Thirsty.
“Y/N, can we talk?”
Your thoughts are interrupted by a voice you recognize and tried to avoid this whole week.
Your ex. The person you least wanted to have a conversation with right now. You'd rather deal with Janine than him.
“Oh hi,” is all you say. Wrapping your arms around yourself. Now that you were up close you noticed he was in fact, changed. Your feelings for him also changed. There wasn’t even resentment.
“I’ve been wanting to come and talk to you since we’ve arrived but it’s been impossible, that man won’t leave you alone,” he scowls.
“Well Jinyoung’s very attentive and he is my boyfriend,” You point out.
“I noticed.” He scuffs his shoes along the floor. “You look happy,”
And you look like hell is what you wanted to say but bit your tongue. “I am,”
Your ex stands there all awkward and you realize that you’re completely over him. He didn’t even mean anything anymore. Even in your relationship he made you feel awkward and not sure of yourself. In latent terms taking away your sexiness.
Being with Jinyoung made you feel good. You’ve rediscovered yourself. Found what you wanted in a guy.
“We had something Y/N. Something good,” your ex says. He’s looking at you as though this conversation really matters.
“Well…” you pause and try to work out what to say, “If we did then maybe you wouldn’t have cheated,”
“I messed it up. I’m sorry Y/N. I’ve been so stupid,” his face is twisted like he may start crying and you’re struck by a sudden lightening bolt of realization. If it had been two months ago you may have thrown yourself into his arms. Two weeks ago you could have tried to strangle him for his adultery. Now you couldn’t be bothered with anything except pity. He looked like he hasn’t slept in a month, you could only imagine what it’d be like when the baby comes along. When you don’t say anything your ex continues, “I don’t know what I’m going to do without you Y/N,”
Past your ex’s shoulder you see him. Jinyoung. He’s been watching you two from the bar. Close enough that in a moments signal he could be at your side as your knight in shining armor and save you. Yet you didn’t need him. He winks at you and you realize that he really is there for you but knows you can handle it.
Then you realize. If a man, any man, can make you feel that special at a distance, even under this pretense, then your ex has never even been close to being ‘the one’ for you. Now you seem to be lacking any empathy towards him. The only thing you felt was thankful that you didn’t end up marrying him.
“We’re not getting back together,” you firmly state.
“Whose not getting back together,” Jinyoung slides to a halt beside you, his arm snuggling around your waist.
You nod towards your ex, “You should have realized everything a long time ago,” you pause to take a breath, another lightening bolt of energy and realization. “You can’t love me now and you couldn’t have loved me back then or you would have never fucked another woman,” Jinyoung squeezes your hip in encouragement. “Anyways, I’m with Jinyoung now,” you look up and gleam at him.
He smiles back, “And on that note I think it’s time we start having a fun time,” he inclines his head towards the small empty dance floor.
“Y/N, doesn’t dance,” your ex states clinging to his last hope that there was still something between you two. Acting as if he still knows you.
“Not with you she doesn’t,” a voice interrupts from behind him.
“Jackson!” You squeal pushing past your ex as you embrace your long time friend.
“There’s my girl. I’ve been looking for you,” he spins you around.
Your ex moves out of the way of your flying feet, “Take it from someone who's been where you’re standing right now. I’d worry about him,” your ex murmurs, patting Jinyoung on the shoulder.
“There’s nothing to worry about,” Jinyoung mutters as your ex walks off with his shoulders slumped.
“When did you get here!” You ask as soon as your set down.
“This afternoon just in time for tennis ” Jackson grins keeping his arm slung over your shoulder.
You should have made the connection earlier when Jinyoung said that Mark’s college friend arrived, which reminded you.
“Jackson this is Jinyoung my boyfriend,” you try and pry yourself out of Jackson’s hold but instead he only tightens his arm around you shoulder, almost into a headlock.
“We met briefly during tennis,” Jackson says.
“I’d like a rematch. Was kind of winded after all the previous matches before you,” Jinyoung smiles yet you notice there isn’t any warmth behind it.
“Sure, I’ll take you on anytime,” Jackson replies.
There’s a brief pause between all of you. You wouldn’t call it tension, more like testosterone in the air. You slip out of Jackson’s hold immediately moving to Jinyoung’s side linking your arm through his. “Looks like dinner is just about ready,” You say in the nick of time as you see people making their way to their seats.
Jinyoung moved his arm to slide around your waist as he pulled you close. Almost possessively. You were to preoccupied with the seating arrangement that you missed the very quick and very clear look Jinyoung gave Jackson. They may have competed against each other in tennis and Jinyoung may have lost, but he was not going to compete and lose you.
Your reunion with Jackson didn’t end. He sat beside you during dinner. The two of you reminiscing on old times, and discussing new things in life, mocking Janine as she asked for numerous substitutes that she may as well have just drank water.
“Shh,” you laughed, nudging Jackson as he whispered in your ear about Janine’s ‘lopped sided’ boob job.
“Excuse me,” Jinyoung says as he gets up.
You grab him by the hand, “You okay?”
Jinyoung leans down and kisses your temple, “Getting a drink,” he smiles before walking off.
Jackson leans over, “He hates me,”
You shake your head keeping your gaze on Jinyoung as he moves between tables. “Maybe cause you beat him in tennis,”
“Or maybe because I’ve been occupying his girl all night,” Jackson prods.
“He’s not like that,” you fiddle. Besides, it wasn’t real. Why would he feel like that?
Jackson stares at you blankly as if you were missing the biggest flashing lights in front of you. “With the way he looks at you and the way he looks at me like he wants to take me outside and gut me. I’d say he’s crazy about you,”
You glanced towards the bar and saw that Jinyoung was watching you steadily. You balled the napkin in your lap. Your thoughts flashing back to your kiss in the hallway. He had been the one to initiate it. Nothing about that kiss reflected ‘chaste’ like in your agreement. Your thoughts following were definitely far from innocent.
“Dance?”
“Hmm?” you turn to Jackson then you notice the music playing in the background. “Sure,” you grin. You take his hand, getting up from the seat as you follow him to the floor.
Jinyoung stood there at the bar, battling back jealousy that he’s never felt before as he watched you with Jackson. Your ex’s words getting to him and crawling under his skin. Your dress clung, flowed with your movements and Jackson’s hand moved further down your back side. He knew what it was like to hold you like that, to feel your body against his. To hold you close. He wasn’t like this. Wasn’t supposed to be like this. He didn’t care about what's real or not, he wasn’t the type to let another man whisk his woman away. He cursed as he strode out to the dance floor.
“Looks like I’ll see you later,” Jackson smiles triumphantly at you, kissing you on the cheek as he feels Jinyoung tap on his shoulder. When he walked away he figured you had a keeper. Your ex always stood by idly with you and him and he deemed him unworthy since he couldn’t hold his own. Jinyoung was just as worthy of an opponent outside of the tennis court. Jackson only wondered how you could be so blind to not see that your boyfriend was crazy, head over heels for you.
Jinyoung picked up rhythm perfectly, matching his steps to yours and to the music. You relaxed, closing the little distance between yourselves, resting your cheek against his shoulder. Enjoying the moment with him though you wondered if it was for show. You hated how you couldn’t tell what was real and what was fake. The kiss earlier was that real? The way he looked at you, did he look at other women like that? At this moment, all you wanted to do was enjoy the time you had with him.
“You and Jackson are pretty close,” Jinyoung murmurs as you both sway.
“We’ve been friends for a while,” somehow you feel the need to explain it to him.
“Does he also know about our arrangement?”
“No,” you answer.
“Good.”
He doesn’t say anything else, only continues to hold you close while the music played. Others had started to file onto the dance floor. Mark had pulled your best friend away from the dessert table and pulled her close.
“If you and Jackson are so close, why didn’t you ask him to be your date to the wedding?”
Something in Jinyoung’s tone had you draw back and look up to see his face. “It would be weird. No one would believe that we were together,”
“Why would you two have to pretend? It could very much be real,” You were tempted to laugh, but the look in Jinyoung’s eyes had you hold back. “I don’t know what you mean,”
“I believe you do.”
“If I’m catching on correctly then I think you’re crazy. He’s just a friend,” You defend.
“I may be your fake boyfriend but I’m not an idiot,” even as the words came out he realized the unfairness behind them, maybe he was an idiot.
His words sting, catching you off guard. Your stomach knotting at the sudden confrontation. You quickly look around hoping no one was in earshot.
“I don’t know what’s gotten into you but maybe we shouldn’t discuss it here,” you stiffened.
“You’re right,” and with that Jinyoung grabs your wrist and pulls you from the dance floor. Jackson who’s now at the bar smiles to himself as he takes a pull from his beer.
“Jinyoung!” You call out his name as you try your best to keep up with his pace. Getting over the first initial shock. You had passed by your parents, your mother murmuring delightfully ‘lovers quarrel’ as Jinyoung drags you through the room. Even as you passed your best friend she winked at you.
“What’s going on?” You say as you finally enter the room and are behind closed doors.
“I don’t know,” Jinyoung runs a hand through his hair as he paces the room. He lets out a sigh, loosening the buttons of his dress shirt, then rolling up his sleeves feeling claustrophobic. He was being irrational and he knew it, yet unable to control it.
“Well you almost blew this whole thing up.”
“I know,” Jinyoung sighs as his pacing comes to a halt. “I know,” he repeats.
“You were being ridiculous. Jackson is nothing more than a close friend,” you state firmly starting to get riled up. You could only imagine what would’ve happened if someone heard. “And even so it shouldn’t matter,”
“And why’s that?”
“Because this is fake,” you try and laugh but you hesitate,“Right?”
“You’re an idiot,”
Your eyes widen with shock, lips parting in surprise as a mixture of fury and hurt build.
Jinyoung steps towards you, placing his hands on your arms. “I’m in love with you. I’m not acting, my feelings for you are real. I don’t want your money, I want you. I want to stop pretending and damn it, I want to take you on a date when this is all over so you could be my real girlfriend,”
“What?” Is all you could say as you try and register everything. You place your hands on his chest, trying to push him away so you could think yet he doesn’t budge.
“You’re amazing, beautiful, funny and even though I got that crash course I want to take my time to get to know you,” Jinyoung continues, then he pulls away just far enough to look down at you. “Unless this is completely one sided then never mind I do want the money,”
You laugh, shaking your head as you bring your arms to wrap around his neck. “You don’t know how much I wanted this to be real,”
He kisses your forehead before you see his smile of relief. “So are we still doing chaste kisses?” he teases.
“Only in front of my parents,” you grin, initiating the kiss first.
It may have started off chaste but soon he pulled you close against him. His hands moving to lower back as he draws your body to him. You give, yielding against him. Jinyoung’s mouth is pliant against yours, enticing as his name rolled off your lips in a quiet, satisfied sigh. There it was again, the heat, the roaring boil that ignited with his movements. You had never kissed like this, never been kissed like this, everything that had built throughout the week spilling over the edges in complete and gratifying pleasure. Your fingers twine in his hair as your movements deepened. Nothing is innocent about this and everything down to Jinyoung’s hand tugging at the hem of your dress and guiding you towards the bed broke your ‘ground rules’. Soon your back is lain against the soft mattress, Jinyoung’s body hovering over yours. It had been so long that even the way his knee moves between your legs has you ready to go over the edge. His hands are tender, caressing, seducing as the hem of your dress rides higher up your thigh. His hands aren’t the only thing exploring, his lips are now at your jugular. Even more lethal than his hands as he stokes the lust that continues to build. With his hands on your hips he coaxes you to move, as if knowing what you wanted. You begin to grind against his thigh, thankful for the choice of undergarments. Silently thanking yourself for wearing your sexy underwear, not to mention your thinnest. Slowly you grind against the taut muscle of his clothed thigh.
Jinyoung pulls away for barely a moment just enough for you to see his smile before he dives back. Tongue meeting yours eagerly. “J-Jinyoung,” you breathe when his mouth moves to explore your neck once again. It wasn’t enough, every kiss made you want him more. Desire soaked you, the need to be ravaged filled you yet you feel empty.
His hand slides lower, between your legs as it brushes over lace. You suck in a breath at the contact, so delicate yet the feeling hits you hard. You arched against the sensation, urging for more. Jinyoung obliges, sliding your panties aside. He teases, fingers gliding up your slit. You were wet, the sound of it mixed with your heavy breathing filled the room. You groan out loud when Jinyoung begins making perfect circles around your swollen clit. Your dress is hiked up to your waist, the barrier of lace the only thing preventing you from being completely exposed.
“God, are you always like this?” Jinyoung murmurs as his fingers slide to either side of your clit, watching at how reactive you are at his ministrations.
“It’s been so long and you do it so well,” you exhale, hands digging into your sheets. “Don’t stop Jinyoung,” you moan when his fingers enter you, his thumb rubbing against your clit.
“Believe me, I’m not going to,” Jinyoung says as he lowers his lips to yours again. You moan as his fingers continue to pump and twist within you. Already you’re nearing delirium, the thrust of his hand is meticulous. His movements purposeful, especially as he rubs his arousal-coated fingertips around your sensitive bundle of nerves before plunging into you again. Your eyes are shut tight, flashing white and sparks of colored pleasure appearing. Your moans are ardent, your skin damp. When he pulls his hands away you almost groan out of frustration. So close to toppling over the edge and now you clench around nothing. “Relax,” Jinyoung grins as if reading your mind. You see his smirk, “I just want a taste,”
You’re still trying to gather your bearings as Jinyoung pulls back, kneeling and moving down. Your legs are still spread as Jinyoung hooks his hands into the waistband of your panties and pulls them down. Tossing them somewhere in the room. His mouth hovers over your sex and you wait in anticipation. Immediately you buckle, arching up and hands fisting in his hair the minute his tongue grazes your sensitive clit. When his lips close over your sex, his name leaves your lips in a rasp. His tongue and lips intermixing that builds you towards impending climax. His arms are hooked around your thighs, there was no escape, no matter how sensitive you were becoming. He’s merciless, relinquishing with the work of his mouth on your core. Every now and then you can see Jinyoung look up from the top of his lash line, as if watching to see your next reaction and what a mess you were becoming all from his doing.
You were learning new things about him. He was a giver, a sadist, good at everything. At this very moment Park Jinyoung was going to be your downfall. It was sweet torture, pure unadulterated pleasure continued to saturate you. His tongue drags up your clit back down to your core, swirling, probing. Every movement immoral, purposeful. The sound he was eliciting from you obscene and surely he knew that no one has ever eaten you out like this.
“I can’t,” you moan. Your body is shaking, you’re holding onto whatever sanity you have left. Thighs quiver as they close around him. You want to push him away yet instead your hands in his hair pulls him closer. Jinyoung knows, his chuckle haunts you as he keeps his hold around your knees. His tongue is meticulous, your hips are arched and pushed high. With another flick and circle of the hard muscle of his tongue your climax is released. You’re over the edge, coming down hard and he doesn’t let up. You’re cursing and his name leaves your lips on an oath repeatedly. Your breath is caught in the back of your throat. Jinyoung kneels up on the bed, looking down at you. Using the back of his hand to wipe your remnants.
You’re putty, you can’t even prop yourself up onto your elbows. You don’t even have the energy to pull your dress back down. Though something in the way Jinyoung looks at you says there’s no point. Your gaze trails down his torso, fixing on the outline of his dress pants that’s prominent. You nip your bottom lip in anticipation, suddenly feeling full of energy.
“What are you doing?” Jinyoung grins, cocking his brow as you find the strength to kneel in front of him.
“Returning the favor,” you say as you work the buttons of his pants. He doesn’t resist as you bring the zipper down. He works the buttons of his dress shirt and the chiseled plain of chest is revealed and as more of his torso is exposed you can’t help but have your jaw drop. “You’ve got to be kidding me,”
“What?”
“Is there anything wrong with you?” You tease, making a blatant point to skim your eyes over his body.
“I - what?” Jinyoung asks flustered.
“Nothing,” you laugh before you kiss him, your hand trailing downwards. He is already hard, straining against the cotton material. He tugs your bottom lip as you grasp the top of his boxers tugging them down. He sighs when he’s freed, cock springing up as you held back another comment about how surreal he truly is. It’s his turn to curse as your hand wraps around the base of his shaft. You begin in slow, long strokes. Rubbing your thumb against his tip, spreading his pre arousal along his sensitive head. Jinyoung exhales, eyes shut as he enjoys the way you stroke him.
“Y/N I - oh fuck,” His sentence is cut off when you bend, taking him into your mouth. Your head bobs. Tongue moving in circular motion along his shaft. Jinyoung groans as you take him as deep as you could, he’s big enough that you need to use your hand as well. His breathing is shallow, as you continue to move up and down, hand and mouth on his cock. You find it satisfying, you’re practically smug when Jinyoung’s hands fist in your hair, groaning as his head tilts back. He even begins to guide you, helping you find your rhythm as your mouth works his cock. Using his technique from earlier, interchanging between both your hand and your mouth.
“Ah - Y/N,” Jinyoung juts his hips back suddenly. A trail of your saliva follows, you look up at him wide eyed. Jinyoung chuckles pushing his hair back, “You’re about to test my pride,” You grin up at him smugly. “Come here,” he pulls you back to him, his hands resting on your cheek as he pulls you in for a kiss.
You slide both hands up the planes of his body until resting on his shoulders. He kisses you, tongue flicking against yours. He reaches the hem of your dress and you raise your arms as he pulls it over your body. Letting it join the rest of your garments on the floor. Lips only separating for that brief moment before reunited again. He guides you to lay down once again, positioning himself between your legs. His hand rests along your rib cage, fingers grazing the underside of your breasts.
“Mmm,” you squirm against him as he caresses your breast. The pads of his thumb grazing against your nipple, circling. He presses soft kisses to the crook of your neck, then he bends closing his mouth of your breast. The heat you felt earlier that was dwindled mildly reignited. Set a flame. He presses himself to your center. Your hips rolls in roll response, feeling him at the edge of your entrance. “Jinyoung,” you moan at the stretch. You had expected it but god, he filled you. You had to adjust, hiking your knee up to give him more leeway as he slowly begins to thrust into you. Your hips arched higher, he rolls his hips and he glides in further, bottoming out. Your fingers are digging into his shoulders with his precise, slow strokes. You’re matching each other’s rhythms, moving in sync together. Unified as one as each other’s moans and breaths fill the room. Jinyoung’s hands fist in the sheets by your head, his lips feverishly moving with yours. Your clenching around him, uncontrollable pleasure rocks and shakes through your body. You moan, arching against him as Jinyoung continues to thrust within you as you come around him. His hips snap forward, thrusts erratic. Your name leaves his lips as Jinyoung comes as well, filling you. Thrusts slowing, with long strokes. Still joined Jinyoung collapses on you. You laugh, hands limply running through his hair as small kisses to your face and shoulder are made lazily.
“How much do I owe you for that?” You sigh.
You laugh when Jinyoung pinches your butt.
Jinyoung lets out a low groan rolling off you and tugging you along with him. You wrap your arms around him, heading snuggled on his chest. Jinyoung lazily caresses your side.
“So the wedding is tomorrow,” Jinyoung murmurs.
“I know, I can’t believe how fast this week went,” you yawn. “I’m going to miss all the fine dining and cocktails,”
“That’s not going to end,” Jinyoung kisses your temple.
You look up at him, “It’s not?”
Jinyoung adjusts, “Pretty sure all the dates I take you will have some form of cocktails,”
Dates. Real dates. You and Jinyoung were officially a couple. It all seemed surreal.
You adjust, propping yourself on your elbows to face him, “And what about fine dining?”
Jinyoung grins leaning up to kiss you, “My instant noodle skills are impeccable,”
You smile and bend to kiss him, “I can’t wait,”
“Can’t wait to see you walk down the aisle tomorrow,” Jinyoung says pulling you back to lay against him.
“Are you sure? I love my best friend and everything but her choice in color is…” you trail off and scrunch your face at the thought of your peach tulle dress in the closet.
“You look great in anything,” Jinyoung chuckles, “but I have to say,” he says shifting himself again over top of you, “This is my favorite look by far,” he brushes your love tousled hair.
“Maybe I’ll show up naked to the wedding and see if everyone else would like this look as well,” You tease.
Jinyoung smiles, “Knowing your mother…” he doesn’t even have to finish his sentence for you to know.
He lays back down holding you close to him. You snuggled against him. “Cuddling isn’t so bad after all,”
Jinyoung raises his eyebrow at first, “Well I’m glad you think so,” he buries his face in the crook of your neck. “Cause I’m a cuddler,” he murmurs.
You smile. Who would have thought that three weeks ago your search for a fake boyfriend would get you a real one.

» on Earth V12 everyone is born with half of their emotions – the other half is safely kept within the soul of their soulmate. however, its been a few wee years and it’s safe to say that you don’t have one. or at least you dont think so. but the universe cant possibly hate you so much as to leave you without your emotions for the rest of your life, or can it?
authors note » yeah yeah, it’s been a while. but soulmate aus are literally the only thing that give me joy and hope about love so.... hope you enjoy it!
The doctor at the local health clinic tells you that there's no use in holding out for a soulmate. Giving up is the best way to ensure less heartbreak, she diagnosed. It’s much better that way.
You've already passed the age criteria to find one, she said. Typically, a year or two after nineteen is the maximum time it takes for you to find the one, she'd told you with a tone of neutral candor. Your doctor probably felt sad – pitiful almost, at that fact. But she was careful to not let it show. That although there was nothing biologically wrong with you, the hard-cold truth remains that you can't feel what she does, what other seven billion people in the world feel — emotions. Or at least a subset of them.
To emote, you believe, is a privilege that not everyone receives. However, history and biology books taught you, just like it did to everyone else on Earth V12, that once you came of age you earn that right. That once the universe believes you've merited it, you get to experience the wild, wide and boisterous range of emotions.
You've read about it. Oh, how much you've read. Huddled and bundled up in thousands of blankets on the window seat in your bedroom back at your family home. Even now in university, in between study breaks and long hours of researching on metaphysics. You read to feel but you don't know exactly what you should be feeling. You read to understand, to know the differences between being sad and being upset. Am I sad that the Universe has decided I'm not worthy of a soulmate? Or am I upset that I believe I need a soulmate to begin with? You don't know. Like a thousand other things that simply just do not make any sense.
They told you not to worry. After all, everyone has a soulmate. It's unfathomable to believe otherwise. That's just the way things are. The way things have always been. The beginning and the end.
You watched, a little wide-eyed, disoriented and mystified as your closest friend and associate, Taehyung, became a different person in the five seconds after he met his soulmate, Eden. It was like a dam had been bust open right before your very eyes. It's a little hard to explain, even now that it's been a couple of years, you'd never quite seen anything like it.
The books say that eons ago gods, back in the time when they walked amongst us, granted wishes. But they also took gifts away. And one day when a fight broke out between two demigod children which resulted in one of them dying, the Sun god came down from his place on high and decided with a few other gods that the human emotions within us — the ones that spark hate and contempt and love and weakness — were to blame. Emotions, the god argued, did not play into reasoning or knowledge. And hence they needed to be earned back. Or at the very least, we needed to recognize their value.
But he couldn't just hoist billions worth of people's emotions into thin air. Instead, what he stripped from one he placed in another. The very essence of soulmates. By splitting the emotions people carry and making them search for The One with their other half, the god decreed that he had made the most beautiful creation. The Sun god ruled this as a magnificent feat, tooting his own horn about his generosity to break humans apart.
To take something apart and then put it back together again, just as you found it — perfect in all its nature, is something you long for. Something you yearn to understand. How is it possible to place jagged pieces back together and get something so phenomenal in return? To get something whole?
To experience Love the way the novels and books you devour describe it. To feel that Sadness that can cause people to cry rivers. You want to know this whole other world that everyone seems to get but you. You have Apathy — loads of it. You understand what it's like to be Disinterested; very much so. Frightened and Scared, you know. However, Hope and Serenity, you do not.
It's a struggle because it makes you insensitive. You simply can't understand what others are going through if you've never had an inkling to what they feel. And you have no idea what to say to comfort them because everything you say comes out wrong, everything you try to emote comes out forced and makes you feel like a bad liar.
"I just don't get why anyone would do that, you know?" Taehyung sighs loudly and over-dramatically before he takes a sip of his macchiato. "Like I hate when people take my stuff without asking. It makes me absolutely livid."
Eden nods in agreement. "It's the principle of the thing."
"Exactly!" Taehyung cries out in joy of being understood. Of being related to. "I swear I can't wait to move out and get a place with you. Everyone in that frat drives me up the fucking wall."
An odd third-wheel is what you feel like. So out of place next to your friends that you've known for years. You don't quite get why Taehyung is so mad at his frat brothers for borrowing his stuff, typically if he told them not to, they wouldn't. That's just how communication works. But nah, Taehyung is livid. And Eden agrees. He’s been livid before too.
"You could always tell your roommate to not touch your stuff," you say, interrupting Eden and Taehyung as they throw around other instances when people took their shit without asking. "I would do that."
Taehyung rolls his eyes, not in a condescending way like the other people in your university, but it still very much rubs your spine the wrong way. "The thing is; I have told him. Repeatedly. He’s got like, I don’t know, cement filled in his ears or something. He never listens."
Every soulmate pair is different in their mannerisms and the way they flow into each other. For Taehyung and Eden, it's like they complement each other and always have to add on to what the other says. Like a sign that they are there, and they've got their back. You guess it's adorable, in the same way little cats pawing at your ankles is adorable.
"It's like common decency," Eden tries to explain, his mop of ashy-white hair haunting over his eyes. "People generally just don't like other people touching their shit without permission."
And see, this is where your problem lies. You understand the principle of the act; you understand why someone would get theoretically mad at it. It's an inconvenience at best and rude at worst. But is it worth getting absolutely angry over? You're not sure. You're not even sure how someone can get angry with it. That's the big distinction between the people with soulmates and the people without.
Taehyung looks at you with pity swimming in his light brown irises and smiles. But it's without humor, without the type of light he reserves for Eden, without feeling. "Oh, you just don't understand."
There was a time when you understood your friend and he understood you. There was a time that both of you scoffed at the imperfections of the soulmate enigmatic system. And for a moment it leaves you in a state of disarray with how far he has evolved from you. How different the two of you have become.
You spend the rest of the hour focused on your hot chocolate and reading your Mythology and Folklores That Absolutely, Factually, Most-Definitely Happened book. You leave Eden and Taehyung to discuss whatever it is they discuss about. You so clearly can't simply understand what they go through, it makes no sense to dawdle in their conversations then.
It's the last week before the university closes for winter break but the snow has been piling up for months now. Hanging out at cafes felt like a good idea at the time, what's not to like about baked goods and the smell of heady caffeine? But now you wish you'd never come at all. Or at the very least, that you'd come alone.
So, when Taehyung and Eden start packing up – they have work to get to – you don't budge. You look them in the eye and tell them that spending a few more hours in the cafe sounds like something you're craving. It's been a while since you left your apartment for something other than school and volunteering.
Taehyung scrunches his nose and pouts his lips. "You're coming out to the party tonight though, right? It's the last one before break and it's time you had some fun. Today is your birthday, after all. Maybe you'll find—"
Before he can finish that sentence, you force a grin onto your face and a pep into your voice to try and drag him off that course. You're desperately tired of remembering your own birthday. Nothing good ever comes out of it. And you doubt the ripe old age of twenty-one would do anything different. "Don't worry, I'll be there. Your fraternity is the one hosting, yes?"
He nods his head as he slings his messenger bag across his shoulder. "Yeah. Don't be late, okay?"
"Yeah, yeah. I'll see you guys then." You long for them to go already and leave you to your lonesome. You have a very interesting book to get back to. "Bye Eden, have fun in the studio." You wave them off on their way out and hope to the gods that they do not drag this outing any longer.
Once they are gone and the chatter around you falls into a nice subliminal background noise, you peel open the pages of the myth and folklore book and begin to read again.
Ah, yes, the Sun god. The creator of soulmates and the one that cursed all humanity. You wonder now if the god regrets his decision. What about the people like you? The ones that seemingly never find that other half. Are you just supposed to swagger through life with one leg oddly bent? Did the god merely not give a flying crow-shit? How come it was so easy for Eden and Taehyung to find each other whereas it's become exponentially hard for you? Are you not worthy of your own emotions? Are you not worthy to experience that all-encompassing love? Is it simply just an haute club that you could never even dream of barging into?
You sigh and lean back in your chair. The book gives you more questions than it does answers. In fact, it barely gives you any solutions. All it does is relay what happened ages upon ages ago in hopes you will understand. But you don't. These days it feels like you don't understand a thing.
You were meant to have found your half exactly three years ago and nothing of that sort has even thought of happening. Sometimes you feel little bursts, like your half was feeling so much intense emotions that it filtered through the cracks into your side. But nothing to write home about. It leaves you with a lingering sense of hoping for something… more.
Maybe it's because you're not paying attention — after all, you're too busy lamenting on your disproportionate life — that you don't notice the chime of the bell as the café door is pulled open. You don't notice the swells of oohs and ahhs that erupt from the shops teenage companions like they've witnessed the second coming of a god, or better yet some YouStreamer.
You do not notice the slow, creeping feeling of madness that is seeping into your bones. No, you could never notice that when it feels one and a part of you. You don't notice anything really, not until a voice above you lets out a sound of admiration and awe all laced into one exhale.
"Oh," the voice says. "That's a good book."
Your body isn't made to be twisted around but you do it anyway. Testing the limits of how far it will go. And when you crash into deep, soulful brown eyes that look to you like they hold all of the world's greatest mysteries, you freeze. And even though you know time is a theoretical construct and there's no way to actually stop the passing of it, you believe that in this tiny secluded café, time with all its boundaries, halts.
Academically, you know this isn't true. The world still turns, and as much as you wish it, it does not revolve around you. The snow still falls softly to the ground outside, the graceful music pumping through the coffeeshop's stereo is still playing. Nothing truly stops, but something inside of you does.
It takes all you can give to break forth from the haze cast upon you to speak. Speak, dammit! But you're in awe, mesmerized by a sight you've never sensed so well before. You've met countless people, some conventionally attractive, others more idiosyncratically beautiful but none have made you feel like this.
Taehyung describes attraction as something that is either there or it is not. The books describe attraction as a feeling that can make you desire somebody. You've never felt attraction, not like this. You've felt the vague need to be intimate with another but never like this. Like you crave something – someone – you don’t even know.
The person is tall with hard, crystal cut angles and visible confidence. It's with the way he holds himself like he knows his place in the world. Like he never has to question it. It draws you in. Makes you examine him thoroughly from the tip of his fluffy black hair to the heel of his patent leather boots.
He cocks an eyebrow and for a shy of a second, you are highly embarrassed by the fact that you've spent gods-knows how many moments just ogling him. You never ogle. You've quite literally never ogled in your life… until now that is.
You clear your throat and attempt to come off as blasé. Which is hard considering the awkward positioning of your body and the rigorous pounding of your heart in its cage. "It's not a good book. It's a great one. Probably why I read it so much."
"Debating the existence of the old gods, are we?" His voice is laced intrinsically with mirth and amusement.
"More like debating the existence of my life, really."
He chuckles, a sound that fills all the jagged crevices of your soul and body. He moves and you do the same, shifting from your oddly angled position to look at him better. You don't really know how to explain it, this feeling coursing through your veins. Like you know everything there is to know about him, even though you clearly have never met him before.
You clear your throat and will your mind to stop. This is honestly atrocious, outrageous and, frankly disconcerting. It feels like some random spaz has possessed your body and is making you mewl and purr like some damn cat on the street.
"I'm Jungkook, by the way," he finally says when you find the courage to look back up at him. You respond with your name, pronouncing the syllables clear enough so that he doesn't mess it up. But he gets it. And then he tries the name aloud, twisting it around on his tongue. "It is a good day to question our existence, isn't it, __?"
You smile up at him, a different smile from the one you gave Taehyung and Eden earlier. This one comes easily, and it tilts the corners of your lips without feeling faux and fraud-like. You don't even have to try.
"Depends," you say. "Do you consider a cold as shit day in the middle of Winter to be a good day?"
The tips of his lips upturn into an uncanny lopsided grin. One that feels like he's withholding more than he lets on. "A little."
The line in front of him moves and you find yourself watching the way his body propels forward almost gracefully to order a hot chocolate with extra whipped cream and extra salted caramel drizzle. It's then that you turn your head back to your table and busy yourself with fiddling with your fingers.
You feel something nudging your chest as if begging you to listen for a hiss in the wind – of a window or door being carefully opened. But you push that away. You have no idea what it means. And now, you're too busy focused with reeling your cheeks back to a substandard level of hot. You're not sure why basic communication with this dude has you channeling the same emotes as one of the schoolgirl children in the movies you watched when you were younger. You're an adult for seven heaven's sake. You are better than this!
Your cheeks and your ears do not agree. Instead, they inflame themselves hotter than ever. What is it about Jungkook that has you willing to sell a piece of your soul just to talk to him? You've never felt like this. Like nothing you say could surprise him, mind the fact that you just met him.
This time you are aware when he strides over to the seat that had Taehyung had previously occupied. You look up at him, into those deep russet eyes that hold flecks of something so beautiful and then you feel it. The magnetic pull of someone enigmatic. Someone that holds simply more. Maybe not for others, but to you.
His backpack loosens around his shoulders and his veiny hands clutch the Styrofoam cup with an ardent need as he speaks. "Would you mind if I sit here?"
Normally you would be repulsed by the question. What would ever possess someone that you don't know to act so familiar? But you don’t think as you motion for him to take it. After all, it wouldn’t feel right to just send him away. There’s a thin thread tangling and stretching between the two of you and you would be damned if you cut it on your own accord.
Jungkook finds himself lowering his body nimbly into the chair in front of you. And then you find yourself discussing more with Jungkook than you’ve spoken with anyone else in years. It feels relaxing — freeing. But also like a cruel joke from the Sun god. Here’s someone that makes you feel somewhat whole but there’s no indication that the two of you are even meant to be. How sad.
He talks as if his mind has no filters; effortlessly switching between topics. Do you play any sports? Piano is about as rigorous an exercise as you can handle and Jungkook laughs as he tells you that he’s Vice-Captain of the Baseball team, although now they’re not participating in any tournaments. The air in your lungs turns frigid when you ask if he attends the same university as you and then the air is goddamn stolen from your lungs when he responds with a yes.
“No way,” you cry. “I would have seen you on campus.”
Jungkook sends you a lazy grin. “You would’ve but I doubt you take your head out of your books often.”
You concede. “Okay… maybe a little. But still, isn’t our school defending champions or something? I’m pretty sure I’ve heard of the team doing well before, just not you in particular.”
“Ah, I get it. I’m not popular enough.” He jokes. “Perhaps I need to print out a flyer of my face and paste it around school?”
“That’d be fun. There’s no way I’d miss you then.”
He laughs, a loud sound that expands the more seconds pass. He laughs as though you’re the funniest person in the room, which you doubt. But you laugh along too.
“So, what do you do for fun?” Jungkook asks.
“Other than the obvious reading and playing the piano?” You tilt your head to the side and scratch the nape of your neck before you continue on. “Well, I’m studying Metaphysics and researching the fundamentals of soulmates. Why some find theirs and why others don’t.”
“That’s fun?”
You shrug, a small smile playing on your lips, but you refuse to apologize for your interests. “To me. I guess it just helps me understand.”
Jungkook seems to soak in your answer, his eyes drifting from your eyes to the top of your head, down to your gray turtleneck and glitzy star-shaped earrings. And you take your time to truly examine his face. How perfectly in line his nose is with the rest of his bone structure. How perfectly his jaw and cheekbones accentuate his physical beauty. And how for some reason he reminds you of what you believe the children of gods looked back when demigods were a thing. His face makes you think regal and heavenly all at once.
“What’s your theory?” Jungkook finally breaks you out of your ogle match.
“My what?”
“Theory,” he repeats. “On why some find their other half and others don’t.”
You bite your lip. Not sure if what you say might offend him. There’s no sign that he has found his soulmate or not and you don’t want to be increasingly insensitive. You do not want to hear another ‘Oh, you just don’t understand.’ Especially not out of his lips. You reckon you won’t be able to bear it. At least not today.
“It’s simple, I guess. It all boils down to has the person merited it? Earned it? The Sun god split us apart because he believed we needed to find the value in our feelings. I guess the ones without soulmates simply haven’t attained that understanding yet.”
Jungkook frowns and your heart thrusts itself into a deep panic. See, now you’ve gone and done it. This is why you hate talking, hate speaking. You ruin people’s moods (much like you do your own) without a second thought and honestly, now that you think about it. This must be why you have yet to find your one. You barely understand the emotions you do have; how can you possibly comprehend others?
After a minute or maybe three, Jungkook takes a big sip out of his drink before he focuses his attention back on you and you feel yourself burning. A light excavating through the muggy mess that is your mind.
“Have you merited it? The other half of your feelings, I mean.”
Is he asking you if you’ve found your soulmate?
“No. Not yet.”
“Oh.” Is all he says but you hear the unsaid meanings. “Personally, I think the god did something terrible by rupturing us apart. What good has it really done anyone?”
You don’t answer. Not only because you don’t have a good response but also because the topic of soulmates has you on edge already. Someone like Jungkook obviously has all his emotions and has found his half, you think. You doubt the two of you are even on the same wavelength on the matter. So, instead of answering you change the direction of the conversation to him and his collegiate baseball career.
And everything after that clusters into a ball of yeses. When he asks you for your number, when he asks you if you’ve heard of Beta Tau Sigma, and subsequently when he invites you to Beta Tau Sigma’s end of the year party later today even though you already promised Taehyung you’d be there.
Suddenly, you wonder if Jungkook and Taehyung are friends, you guess they should be since they are frat brothers, but he never mentioned his name before. So now you wonder if Taehyung has separate friendship circles for those with and without soulmates. You don’t get mad or angry at the thought. But your mood dampens anyway.
“Wanna know what I think?” Jungkook speaks up just as the two of you are packing your stuff from the table. He doesn’t wait for you to say yes; he presses on almost immediately. “There’s no time limit on soulmates. And to believe so is to believe there’s a time limit on life itself. Our whole lives we’ve been told that the old gods exist and that the old gods did this and that and blah, blah, blah. But then they tell us that if we don’t find our other half by eighteen, better yet seventeen, there’s something wrong with us?”
Jungkook laughs but there’s not a shred of sparkle in it. “Us… the people born out of the happenings of gods? Okay, riddle me this. If we are so clinically incapable of finding our soulmates, then why do we long for them anyways? Why would there be pieces of my very soul that feel so incomplete?”
You’re dumbstruck by him. And again, you feel the little tilt in the wind that sounds to your ears like someone is knocking on a door that you can't see. But this time even though you do not have an answer for him, you force yourself to spit something out.
“If I were to find my soulmate this very second, I’d believe you.”
He smiles down at you, the one where his eyes fold into deep crescent moons and again you think that he’s holding out on you. Holding onto a secret that only he knows. “Won't that be amazing.”
The day goes by without you paying attention to much else. You meet with your philosophy professor on the advancement of your thesis paper even though you have no idea what you want to base the paper on. Almost every relation between soulmates and reality has been explored and at times you find that your professor and you clash on too many issues. You grunt through the meeting, walking on thousands of eggshells before you finally head back to your apartment but once you put your feet up on the couch, you get a text from Taehyung.
TAE » Remember, you promised!!
You » ...
TAE » Don't tell me you've forgotten Beta Tau's party slash your birthday bash? You promised!!! People might start thinking I made you up L
Although you know deep in the deepest crevice of your heart that Taehyung doesn’t mean anything harmful by his statement, it makes you squeamish.
You » What's that supposed to mean? Now I'm the token soulmate-less? Bragging about all my deficiencies to your fraternity brothers that I've never met? Be my guest.
TAE » Oh fuck. You know that's not what I meant __. I'd never do that. I didn't mean for it to come off that way.
But it did.
And you’re not sure where this surge of despondency is coming from. Almost like a switch in your psyche has been flipped. Some part of you acknowledges that earlier today, you would not have read that message as anything but harmless. But the situation has changed. It’s like your body is thrumming with unshed resentment. Resentment at who? You don’t know but Taehyung seems to be on the receiving end of it.
It’s this feeling of deep antipathy that propels you into getting dressed for the damn party. Not the fact that it is your birthday, not the fact that there is a slight possibility of finding your soulmate at the wretched place. No. You get dressed because there would be free booze and people stupid enough to pick a fight with you in your current state. Well, maybe not a real fight. But there’s a thrumming in your veins and you don’t know how to curb it. You’ve never felt anything akin to it before. Oh, and maybe the small huge chance that you’ll see Jungkook again.
By the time you get to the Beta Tau Sigma house lined up on Greek Row you are quite literally ready to burst at the seams. The weather is cold as fucking shit and although it stopped lightly snowing, the breeze has you tightening your hold on your navy jacket. What is up with everyone today and being a major dick to you? First, it was your professor, and then it was your neighbor that stopped you on your way out of your apartment to pity the fact that you hadn’t found someone on your twenty-first birthday.
Fuck off, you almost screamed at her. Leave me the fuck alone and go shag your boyfriend in the back of his termite-ridden Honda!
But you’d smiled through it, bearing the stinging of your cheeks as you stretched them past your limit and fisted your palms so hard that you created crescent shapes into your flesh.
And gods, you’re tired of smiling through it. Tired of being told that you’re not allowed to feel anything other than your predisposed emotes. Exhausted with having to always be passive. Nothing is supposed to hurt you. At least not emotionally. But you feel a swelling in your chest like your heart is about ten beats away from finally asphyxiating itself.
You push through the frat house and find Taehyung almost immediately. And you watch with a hint of simmering hatred as he cracks joke after joke and his brothers and friends laugh and you feel more and more isolated between their world and yours. And then the hatred comes to a boiling point when you catch two lovebirds giggling and making out on the sofa next your foot.
You blink and blink and blink again. Coming here was a bad idea. To be surrounded so much by the one thing you desperately want but can't have. The irritation and animosity that’s been brewing within you transforms into something more solemn. Dimming itself down to a feeling of major disappointment. At yourself, at the world, at the cursed Sun god.
The second you're about to pivot the fuck out of there, a pair of eyes to the side of the room fixes on you and you are stunned into a halt.
His eyes say a thousand things at once and you hear it deep in your soul. His eyes rake over your entire body as if looking for the source of your imminent distress but when he comes up short, his pretty lips squeeze together and form words that you suddenly want to be etched onto your very being.
“You okay?”
No one – and you mean this without irony – has ever asked you that in all seriousness. Not your parents, not your friends, and certainly not you. Your parents try, you guess, they know how hard it is to not have a soulmate, but they found each other early and never had to question themselves. Never had to question the essence of their souls.
And that’s when you feel it; a quiver in your lips. You open your mouth in an attempt to say something – anything – but nothing comes out and you close it, only to repeat the motion with no improvement.
Jungkook crosses the room in long strides and before you know it, he is everywhere around you. All black. Black tee-shirt, black cargo pants, black sneakers. You didn’t realize how big he was before but now that you have, you can un-see it. Lean and lithe but strong and sturdy. A walking contradiction. Especially with the light shining from his eyes.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” He asks as he puts his hands on your shoulders and centers you.
You hate, absolutely despise, how watery your voice sounds when you say “Nothing. This party is just so lame that I’m feeling a little off.”
The both of you know how bad your lie is but for some reason, he rolls with it. “Yeah? I was thinking the same thing actually. This has to be the worst thing Tae has ever put on and to think he said it’s supposed to be a birthday party. I could do much better.”
And now you feel utterly terrible. You’d been so ready to rip Taehyung a new one, assumed his prejudice against you for what? Awful. You’re so awful as a person that of course, you haven’t earned the right to find the other half of your emotions. Of-fucking-course.
You’ve never felt so out of your own body before. Who is this impostor that has possessed you and when can you get your body and appropriate feelings back? You need it back before you completely annihilate all your relationships.
“I’m sorry. I don’t usually act like this.”
“Why are you sorry?” He seems genuinely confused.
“I… You probably wanted to have fun with your brothers and all. And here I am just – “
Jungkook squeezes your shoulders hard which forces you to raise your attention from staring at your shoes to gazing at his face. It’s a much-needed distraction from the wobble in your voice and the feeling of cotton in your throat.
“You need some fresh air?” He poses his statement as a question, but you don’t really have a choice in the matter anyway because he slides his warm fingers into yours and although you feel a momentous spark, you let him drag you through the house.
Taehyung notices you then and begins to rush towards you. Perhaps he’s glad that you still came out tonight even though you had a fight with him earlier. Perhaps he’s relieved that you don’t utterly hate him. But you attempt to give him a watery smile that is both apologetic and reassuring, but his eyes fly down to you and Jungkook’s conjoined hands and he pauses.
And it’s not the smile he usually gives you. No. This one closely resembles the ones he reserves for Eden. Like maybe you’ve found your sanctuary. Maybe you’ve come to finally understand.
You scoff at the thought just as Jungkook snatches two Margarita cans from a cooler and pulls you up the stairs and through a hallway that leads to a balcony. When you're outside, he motions for you to take a seat on one of few white benches. Without saying a word, he passes a can to you. You clasp the cold drink between your fingers and revel in the iciness sipping through your flesh.
You've never experienced this feeling of tranquility meshed with a creeping sense of foolhardiness with another person in your life. And you're struggling with how to process it.
“Wanna talk about it?” Jungkook finally breaks the silence, sitting right beside you. The warmth emanating from his body warms you down to your toes and you revel in it.
No. Yes. Fuck. “I don’t know. I’m just being stupid, and it doesn’t matter anyway.”
“I know you're not stupid and it does matter. It matters a lot.”
Great, you think. One more person in the grand universe that you're destined to disappoint. You sigh and stare out at the starless sky. You always hold your feelings in check and rigorously work to not let the few emotions you do have to get the best of you. To not cloud your judgment. But during the course of this whole day, you’ve felt like you're on a ledge. On the precipice between falling and drowning. Like your mind is waging a war against itself.
You are not a crybaby. But even as you think this, you feel wetness at your eyeballs and a stinging in your cheeks, and you blink and blink to try and push it away. But it feels like your body is burning with never before experienced sensations and it scares you. You open your mouth and the choking feeling from before returns, it muddles everything else and you panic. You refuse to cry in front of Jungkook. Not now when you feel so downright weak.
“P-pieces of my –” Against your will your voice cracks. “Pieces of my very soul are so incomplete.”
The corners of your eyes fill up more with tears that you desperately do not want to shed. And it takes everything in you to not raise your hand to swipe the madness away.
Stop! Stop, goddammit! Stop this very instant! You’re above this. Better than this. You didn’t cry when the doctor told you that there was nothing biologically wrong with you, you didn’t cry when your group friends slowly diminished as they found oneness with their partners and others more attuned to them. You didn't cry then, so why are you on the verge of it now of all times and days?
And even though you're trying your damn hardest to not have a full-on breakdown, you feel your body heave and then sniffle. Gods this is so embarrassing. You turn your face away from the sky and instead focus it on the cold can in between your fingers.
You pushed away your feelings until they were stuffed in the darkest parts of your mind and now it seems, they are breaking out without a care in the world about the consequences.
“Remember I told you that my theory has to do with some of us earning the privilege of someone else? I haven't earned it. Heck, I haven't earned anything. I'm passive. I try not to be but investing myself into others has never worked in my favor. All the emotions I do have feel so negative that when I'm around people I can't help but not connect. Because I don't understand half of what they are saying or feeling, and I hate it. I hate it so much.”
You're a piece of work, __, your ex-partners had said. You've dated around before; scavenging for love in uncanny, dim places with people destined to be with others until they finally realized that you were not theirs.
Because everyone eventually did. Realize the oddity of not being empathic. There's something defective about you. You can't seem to find anyone willing to be around you for two weeks talk less of forever. But everyone you'd been with magically happened to find theirs. The stars seem to gravitate away from you like you exude such a power that is so repulsive.
And it hurts. It hurts so fucking much. Like hot coal sliding down your spine and marring flesh. But you can't stop your mouth from speaking, the words tearing the edges of your lips with each choked up sound you exhale. "A part of me doesn't care if I don't have a soulmate, I mean, my life shouldn't be dictated by whether or not I have someone tied to my arm. But the other half of me desperately wants it. I get this ridiculous chasm of sadness when I think about every emotion that I can't experience because I'm not worth it. I've never been worth it."
Your throat is burning. Your eyes are burning. Every part of your body is aching madly but Jungkook doesn't say a thing. Your chest begins the act of carving in on itself and if you didn't know any better you would reckon that your heart is cracking into two halves.
Gods, this is pathetic. You feel so pathetic. All your life you've never felt like the world had conspired against you until this very moment. Like the Sun god had taken a special hatred on you and dumped all these folds of resentment into your soul. You wanted to claw it out.
And for some reason you will never understand, you keep going. As if the cracking of your voice and the upheaval of your shoulders wasn't enough, actual tears started to slip and slide down your cheeks.
“Why the fuck does our society bank on soulmates anyways? What's so great about them that everyone acts like if you don't have one you've been done a great disservice? Why me?" A whole bunch of unfiltered anger bursts inside you and propels you from the bench and a graver sniff infiltrates your voice. "Seven billion people on Earth V12 and you would think that I would be able to find someone in this mess of a world but no. I've wasted twenty-one years of my life without knowing anything. Without feeling anything. I can't do it anymore. I don't want to do it anymore. I want to feel something. Anything. I'm tired of being like –”
Oh, seven hells, you feel like you are dying. Decomposing to dust on the balcony of a fraternity house in the middle of winter in your favorite jeans and so-so high-tops.
It feels like every section of your body is withering away. Rotting. Falling apart and there's nothing you can do to stop the trajectory. Tears pool beneath your chin before they cascade into the neck of your shirt. Your lips quiver so badly you're afraid they might never be the same. If this is what sorrow feels like you hope you never experience it again. It makes you feel gutted.
Your vision becomes so blurry that you can barely make out the dark sky in front of you. Can barely even think. And try as you might, the tears just keep rolling.
You’re not sure of when Jungkook stands up but you feel him wrap his arms around you – tentatively, all-encompassing and fully, and rest his chin on the side of your head. He doesn’t say a word, and maybe it’s because he doesn’t need to. You feel him. The budge on the window sill that leads to your soul. You feel him there. But you want him to let go. There are certain things you acutely feel like you do not deserve, and he is one of them.
“Let me go,” your voice sounds like two trains grinding against each other and it makes you pull away from his embrace. But Jungkook’s arms stretch around your torso.
“No.” Is the soft reply that weighs on your ears. His body is warmer than you want it to be because it's making you feel at home.
“I –”
“It’s okay. You can let it out.” In some kind of way, he feels even closer than before. Like he's impressing himself into your lungs. Like he's giving you the very air that you so desperately need to breathe. Like he's forcing you to bloom and he doesn't care if he has to be the one that solely weeds away at all the nonsensicalities in your chest to make sure it happens.
And maybe some part of him just knows that a part of you is desperate to run away from the unknown because he hugs you harder, tighter, and firmer. So much so that now you can't breathe for different reasons. You don’t know what to do so you let him.
“You don’t need to prove your worth to anyone. Not me, not the gods… no one. And –” You make a move to interrupt him but Jungkook cuts himself off. “Do you feel it?” He asks with his torso pressed against yours and your heart syncing along with his.
“Feel what?” You croak out.
“I can't explain it, that’s why I need you to feel it. It’s every around us you have to, I don’t know, listen.”
You don’t want to, but you do it. You squeeze your eyes shut and wrap your fingers around the Jungkook’s shirt and wait. You wait for the madness in your mind to calm down. You wait for the apprehension in your heart to subside. But nothing happens and you feel worse than before.
“Jungkook,” you start.
“Don’t.” You swear you hear a slight tear in his voice. “Just listen.”
Listen, he says, but what are you even listening for? Here you are, miserable than ever and being told to listen. To the universe? Or listen for that goddamn hiss in the wind again? But all you hear is the sniffles that your chest is releasing and the slight exhale of Jungkook’s hot breath against your cheek. And you don’t know how to explain it. But it is then when you are doubtful and least expect to hear – talk less of feeling anything, that you identify it.
And it’s a beautiful thing. Like two halves of a comet melding into each other to crest a dynamic explosion into your very being. Something that lifts the burden weighing down on your heart and helps you to finally breathe. Breathing in through your nose feels better. Feels easier.
The thread you’d felt before in your mind that had been so tangled and messed up that you could barely discern what it was suddenly fizzled, expanded and stretched out and when you feel for the force at the other end of the cord and come in contact with an aura that reminds you so much of the person in front of you, you are shocked. Better yet, surprised.
You don’t know to explain it. Heck, you’ve never experienced such a colorful array of emotions in your life that for a minute or maybe three, it leaves you dazed and disoriented. It feels like your body is in a vacuum and is receiving dangerous sensations at the speed of light.
It’s burning. Oh, how it's burning. It’s burning through every fiber of your existence but unlike before, this burn doesn’t make you want to choke up and die. Instead, it revitalizes you.
“Do you feel it?” Jungkook asks again.
This time you have an answer that you don’t have to scour for.
“I feel it. I feel it so much. I feel it everywhere. I –” you don’t know whether to cry even harder or laugh at the oddity of the situation and that leaves you in an awkward limbo of both. “Oh, gods. It’s you.”
All the haphazard sensations you’ve been feeling all day. The anger – no lividness –at your neighbor, the overwhelming sadness, the uncharted pettiness at Taehyung with a bare minimum reason to be. It all finally starts to make sense. Everything – or at least, all of that – happened after you’d met him. After you’d been exposed to someone akin to a livewire.
This is nothing like the books said. You’d gone your whole life thinking, believing, that when you met your other half, you’d instantaneously know. Like the skies would crack open and some kind of bell would resound. Now you realize how ridiculously absurd that would be, but it had made sense at the time.
Words lose their meaning in an effort to explain what you feel. Your body is being put back together again. Pieces that you hadn’t realized were even missing suddenly fit into each other. You welcome the tingling in your veins and instead of ignoring the sparks igniting beneath your bones, you embrace it. And oh, it is magnificent.
In this loud, beer-infested fraternity house with slovenly college students pushing against each other downstairs and on the day you turn a striking twenty-one, you find someone that the history and biology and mythology books could have never predicted.
Jungkook’s voice is much softer than before. Is that possible? But it is. And he holds you tighter, holding you like you’re unbreakable.
“To me, you're the moon, the sun – the whole fucking galaxy. I’ve always known you existed, and I’ve waited to find you for a long time. I carried your half with me for so long, how could I not? In the depths of my mind and when I really concentrated about it, I could feel you. Somewhere close but sometimes distant. I held out for you… always. So, you’ll forever be worth it. And you don’t need to earn me, you already have me. You’ve always had me.”
The stain of his words etches itself onto your soul and becomes a part and parcel of you. They quiet the chatter of your heart and bring subliminal teardrops to the crooks of your eyes but this time you don’t mind it. How could you ever mind it?
“So, you’ve always known then?” You don’t sniffle or sob and your voice doesn’t pathetically crack. Instead, you maneuver your face away from his chest so you can see his eyes. In the process, your bodies disentangle and you miss his warmth but this is really happening. And you’re desperate.
He smiles. It's blinding in its glory and it blitzes straight into your core. “Always. It's destiny; you and me.”
You and him. Him and you. You like the sound of that.
“Even though we had to wait for so long.”
Jungkook rolls his eyes like he’s tired of you thinking about time as some enormous continuum rather than the now. “We have the rest of our lives to be together. I don’t think knowing you a bit earlier would change that. It is what it is. And even if I had to wait five years, fuck, even ten. I wouldn’t give up. Not on you, __. Not on my other half.” He spits the last words out so vehemently you don’t have the audacity to doubt it. “What we have is more sacred than anything in the world. I’d be stupid to let that go without trying.”
“You’re not stupid.”
“And you’re not unloved by anyone in this world so stop thinking that.”
“I was not –”
He sends you an exasperated look, one that you immediately identify because the bond the two of you have defies all logic. One that says that he knows you. He knows that the tears that sprung to your eyes earlier were not simply because you were overwhelmed by everything in the universe but also because you felt like you had lucked out of the love train. Watching your friends find havens with their other halves and seeing that couple giggle on the couch like it was the end of high school all over again, it made you feel desolate. And Jungkook felt that. Somehow in some way, he knew.
“I love you. I’ve only met you and I know that much. So, what about your friends? Your family? They love you too albeit in different ways than what I'm feeling. But no matter how much the Sun god split us apart, I, you – we – have always known that we were made for each other. So, yes. I love you.”
You’re pretty sure your mind all but blows up into a tiny clusterfuck of a mass because you can’t even hear what Jungkook says next. You’re hyper fixated on what he had just said. He loves you? How does he even know that? What was this? Had your brain and ears finally imploded on themselves? Was this alternate reality?
“Do you need me to repeat it?”
What? Huh? What?
“I don’t know what to call it. Maybe love at first sight?” He carries on like you’re not having a self-induced heart attack right before his eyes. “Never believed in that before but then I saw you and gods, you’re the most beautiful person I've ever seen in my life. I sure hope when you saw me it was the same because I have no idea how to describe what you do to me.”
But you understand what he’s saying because you did feel it. You felt so much when you first looked at him and you still feel it now.
“Like everything suddenly made sense. The whole craze about finding soulmates finally made fucking sense. I finally understood.”
You blink and blink so fast that you fear your eyelids might not keep up with the action. You never thought your other half would be a huge, spectacular talker and that they would know just how to steal the breath from your lungs away. But Jungkook knows. You're finding a lot of new things this night and one of them is that Jungkook is a hopeful romantic. It almost makes your body bring on another set of waterworks.
“I love you.” He says the soul-breaking words again. “And I already know that love is malleable but what I feel in my bones is for forever.”
In your bones, transformed out of what had laid dormant you felt Love. All around you love. Like you could mess up, you could do the oddest thing in the universe and the love would still be there. You want to shout it out. For the first time in your little life, you feel love and you want it always. And you want to give it always.
And you don’t know how you know but you know that he’s about to kiss you. Oh, gods. He’s about to kiss you right after –
“I love you too.” You hurl out fast enough and it slows down Jungkook’s advancement towards you. “And I have no idea what I'm doing but I'll do it with you. I don’t trust just anyone but what we have is bigger than trust. Like you said, it’s life itself.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. I would wait forever for you too.”
“I know,” he says and you don’t run away when he steps closer to your body. And his fingers reach for a set of yours. You raise your free hand to his chest and feel the rapid, erratic beating of his heart in its cage.
“And I've never done this before. But I'll do my best I –”
“We don’t graded,” he cuts you off with a laugh. “And I know.”
He knows.
His free hand cups your cheek and you almost hyperventilate. Almost. But you’d rather die than miss this. So, you take deep, long breaths that inflate your system with the mix of sandalwood, earth, and hope. And then his lips press onto yours and give you a happy death. His lips crush yours with a force reserved for rocks and specks of dust breaking away from comets. His kiss wakes you up. And you love it.
Before you can even push further, his lips move to the side of your cheek, barely-there before it cascades to the other. And then his mouth is on your brow bone, a light presence that feels heavenly beautiful and nerve-wracking all at once before his lips rest on the middle of your forehead.
Jungkook’s lips came back to yours and kissed one corner of your mouth and then the other. Oh, seven hells, you can’t think. You don’t want to either. Instead, you open your mouth and kiss him back with more fervor. You lithely raise on your toes and kiss the apples of his cheeks, his temples, his brow bones, beneath his lips and right on his chin. Gods, it feels like you kiss him everywhere.
The hand on his chest feels how frenzied his heart is pounding and it makes you smile because you’re sure your heart is doing the same. You close your eyes and wrap your arms around his neck. You don’t need to say anything in this moment because what needs to be said is all around you and under your skin. He reached forward and kissed you again. This time harder, and more frivolous and you gave and gave and took and took. And when the two of you finally break apart for air, you feel a tingle of cosmic goodness down your limbs.
Fuck.
He grins, actually no, he does more than that. He momentarily lights up like a firetruck and pulls you impossibly closer. And you think he has the most beautiful smile in the universe. You want to keep that on his face forever.
“You’re worth it,” you tell him, breathless.
“Worth what?” He asks smugly, his smile turning cocky as he acts like he doesn’t know.
You roll your eyes, your shoulders shaking as you laugh. A genuine one that warms your belly. “Worth the wait.”

Angelic: Sire and Seraphia (Park Chanyeol/Reader)
Her
“Ohh my god, Lu,” I groaned around a mouthful of blueberry pancake. “These are delicious!”
Sitting in front of me, nursing a steaming cup of coffee in his hand, Luhan beamed at me with pride. “I’m glad you liked them, princess.”
“‘Like’ is an understatement, Lu,” I said, ravenously forking some more of the syrupy, buttery pancake into my mouth. It melted on my tongue and I let out another groan, shutting my eyes in pure bliss. “These are divine.”
“Hey!” came Baekhyun’s indignant exclamation. “I made them, too, you know? I need some credit, okay?”
I smiled at my brother who was standing at the stove, flipping more pancakes on the skillet. “Of course, Baekkie. You’re a culinary genius!”
He blushed at my praise, waving his hand dramatically as if to say oh stop it.
I laughed.
Beside me, Yixing was watching us with a fond smile on his face, drinking a cup of coffee. He always took his coffee with a splash of cream and two sugars.
Underneath the table, his free hand rested upon my bare thigh. Fingers playing with the hem of my silk shorts.
His touch on my skin felt like a blanket of comfort, a direct result of his innate healing abilities.
Just being around Yixing made me feel at ease, his touches ameliorating any distress or disquetude within me. He was like a walking, talking safety net for me and in his vicinity, I felt calm.
The calm and comfort that Yixing’s presence brought me was rivalled only by the serenity and tranquility that I had always felt around Junmyeon.
I wanted to lean into Yixing, crawl into his lap and dissolve into his embrace. Maybe take a nap, even. But we had to be discreet around the rest of my brothers.
Instead, I placed my hand on top of his, threading my fingers into his. He gave my hand a squeeze.
“You’re working at Seraphia with Minseok and me today, aren’t you, love?” Luhan asked, pulling me out of the quiet moment Yixing and I were having.
I turned to him with a smile. “Yep.”
Seraphia was a cosy neighbourhood cafe that Luhan, Minseok and Baekhyun had started. And the establishment was quite popular among humans, having garnered numerous loyal patrons over the years.
Lu smiled back at me, while Baekhyun began to animatedly talk about all the pastries he was going to teach me to bake.
Just as he was explaining the intricacies of making the perfect blueberry compote, Minseok walked into the room, Jongdae on his heels, both wearing identical grins on their faces.
“What’s gotten you both so chuffed?” Lu asked, quirking a brow at them.
“Junmyeon is coming,” they both announced together.
I stayed frozen firmly in my chair, silent, while the rest of my brothers erupted into cheers. Yixing beside me remained silent as well, giving me a look.
The message in his glance was clear: we both were going to have to be deathly careful around Junmyeon.
Being the oldest among us, it wasn’t going to be easy to make him believe that everything was fine and dandy. Junmyeon could sense an impending peril within a second. He could read through us all.
And the consequences of him finding out what Yixing and I were truly up to… I didn’t even want to imagine them.
It was Minseok’s voice that drew me out of my own thoughts.
“Aren’t you happy that Jun is coming back, ___________?” he asked, regarding me with an air of expectation. And suspicion. “He said he was missing you the most.”
I felt a shard of guilt stab at my heart. Beneath the table, Yixing gave my hand another squeeze, sensing it immediately.
Mustering up the most radiant, shining smile that I could manage, I said, “Of course I’m happy, Min. I’m just… a little anxious about working Seraphia. I’m still a novice, after all!”
Minseok waved a hand dismissively in the air, shrugging off my worries with a grin of his own. “Don’t worry, princess, you’ll be great.”
“Did Junmyeon say when he was going to arrive?” Yixing asked.
“He didn’t say when,” Jongdae mused over a bite of pancake. “He just said ‘soon.’”
I gave Yixing a glance once again.
We had little time to prepare and rehearse our lies, then.
“Will you be coming to Seraphia, Yixing?” I asked, looking at him with hopeful eyes.
“I will try, love,” he replied, looking apologetic. “I have some commitments at the studio to complete.”
Yixing worked as a music composer, while Jongdae was the lead vocalist at a studio that the two of them ran nearby.
And as crestfallen as I was that I wasn’t going to be able to be around Yixing until tonight, I managed to smile at him.
God, life could be tough around here on Earth.

The sweet aroma of Luhan’s baked goods on display was making my head spin, the scent of Minseok’s strongly brewed coffee becoming the perfect accompaniment to it.
Even as I stood at one of the empty tables, scrubbing down the tabletop as best as I could, I couldn’t help but think if Luhan would allow me to sneak out one of his chocolate eclairs during lunch break.
He knew that I had an insatiable sweet tooth.
Which is why, when I caught his eye as he stood behind the counter, he gave me a wink. He knew.
If you work well, princess, I’ll let you have as many pastries as you like, was the implied bribe behind his wink.
I grinned at him, walking over to him as he beckoned me to the counter with a curve of his finger.
Tightening up my ponytail, I approached him. “Yes, Lu?”
“Princess, you’ll have to man the coffee bar, since Min has to leave early today,” he said.
“Leave early? Why?” I asked, my brow furrowing with instant anxiety.
It was only my third day of work at Seraphia and until now I had only helped with Luhan and Baekhyun with all the bakery products.
I had zero experience at brewing coffee. Especially nowhere as good as Minseok did.
“He has some official business to attend to with Baek and Jong,” he said, a significant look in his eyes.
Realization dawned on my face immediately. Father had asked them to do something for him.
“Fine,” I said, shrugging. “I’ll do it. But you need to teach me the basics, Lu.”
“No worries, princess,” he said, beaming, before pressing a grateful kiss to my cheek. “You’re a quick learner.”

The lunch time rush hour had passed smoothly and I had hardly any problem with fulfilling all our customers and their caffeine cravings.
Everything had been going well.
I was silently eyeing the array of chocolate eclairs on display, which were practically begging me to devour them. My stomach growled painfully.
“Ugh,” I groaned, glancing at the clock. “Where are you, Lu?” I muttered, wanting Luhan to return from his lunch break as quickly as he could, so that I could go for mine.
“Excuse me?” came an impossibly deep voice, jolting me harshly out of my eclair filled fantasies.
I looked up from the display case to the man standing on the other side of the counter.
Red.
That was the first word that came to my mind as I took in his lush, spun-crimson hair. He was practically a giant, easily a head taller than me, dressed in a pitch black suit. By his attire, I would’ve thought him to be a businessman. But for some reason, this man in front of me didn’t exactly seem to be a businessman.
Unable to help itself, my heart gave a stutter when my gaze fell from his hair to his face. High cheekbones, full lips and deep-set, dark eyes, he was the textbook definition of devilishly handsome.
“Excuse me?” he repeated, voice dropping an octave and his rosy lips turning into a smirk, now that he had noticed my blatant staring.
“Y-yes, sir?” I squeaked, inwardly cursing myself for sounding so much like a breathless schoolgirl.
“How c-can I help you?”
He grinned openly.
My heart skipped another beat.
“I’d like four shots of espresso, please,” he spoke.
I stared at him, the cogs in my brain turning. His voice sounded so familiar, yet so foreign. Something I knew, but couldn’t put my finger on, just yet.
“Of course, sir,” I said, trying to muster up my composure. Trying to hold my own in front of this obviously very intimidating man. “Anything else?”
He pointed at the display case with a long, elegant finger. “What would you recommend from these?” he asked of the baked goods.
“T-the chocolate eclairs,” I said. They were my own favourites, after all.
He smiled. “Perfect. I’ll have two of those, please.”
“Certainly,” I said, turning to the till to enter his order into the system. “Who should I make the order out to? And will you have it here, or to-go?”
“Chaniel,” he said simply. “I’ll have it to-go.”
My eyes immediately grew wide, the hair on the back of my neck prickling in a completely instinctive reaction that my mind couldn’t understand just yet. “Ch-Chaniel?”
“Yes,” he said, grin growing wider, as if he were enjoying an inside joke. “C-H-A-N-I-E-L,” he spelled it out for me, while I scrawled out his name on a styrofoam cup with a rather shaky hand.
“Please wait right here,” I said, turning away from this man who was making me suddenly feel a whole array of emotions that I couldn’t quite process just yet.
It didn’t help that I could feel the burn of his gaze upon my back, following me behind the counter as I prepared his coffee and packed up his eclairs with fumbling hands.
I had not reacted in such a way to any of the previous customers I had tended to in the past few days.
Why was I behaving in such a flustered way around him?
Discreetly, I turned around to sneak another look at him. He was looking at the pastries in the display case, hands in his pockets. A small smile playing on his lips.
God.
What was wrong with me?
Finishing up his order, I approached the counter, to hand it over to him.
He took the coffee and the bag of eclairs. But instead of leaving, like I had expected that he would, he reached into the bag and pulled out an eclair, holding it up to me.
“Is something wrong, sir?” I asked.
He smiled, almost radiantly, pressing the pastry into my hands. “I bought this one for you,” he said and promptly turned on his heel to leave.
Before I could ask him to stop, or say anything, for that matter, he was gone.
Leaving my hands searing with a pleasant heat where his skin had touched mine. And my heart buzzing wildly like a honey-bee with an inexplicable reason.
And then it happened.
The heat from where our hands had touched, for barely a moment, began to spread its way all over. I could feel it crawl up my wrists, up my arms, to my neck, down my torso and legs. And all the way up to my head.
My breaths began to come in heavier than usual and my trembling hands suddenly let go of the eclair I was holding. In slow motion, I saw the pastry fall onto the floor, and the realization came to me.
It was him.
Him.
The man who had kissed me that night.
Satan’s child.
Between heaving gasps, I leaned against the glass counter, heat flooding through my body like an inferno. So strong that I felt my knees buckle and give out from under me.
But before I fell to my knees on the floor, a pair of arms caught me.
“Princess! Are you alright?”
Luhan’s face came swimming into view through my blurring vision and I staggered, pushing him away violently.
“Y-Yixing…” I breathed out, trying my best to restrain myself, despite the excruciating heat that had now settled deep within my core. “I need Yixing…”
And with that, I turned on my heel and ran out of the cafe.
_______________
Him
The taste of the eclair remained sweet upon Chanyeol’s tongue, a smile firm upon his lips as walked back into his home.
There was a spring in his step, all from the joy to the next phase of his plan coming to fruition, as he hummed a pleasant, sprightly tune, walking through the expansive courtyard.
He could see all of his brothers’ multi-million dollar worth luxury cars parked in the driveway.
Good, they’re all home.
“Boys!” Chanyeol yelled out, as soon as he flung open the front door. “I’m home!”
Silence.
His ears were met with a deafening silence, a stark contrast to the usual ruckus his brothers created whenever they were all home, making an irate Kyungsoo the one to implore them to just keep it down.
Almost immediately, Chanyeol knew that something was up. And his suspicion came true when a very distinctly familiar voice called out to him in a musical lilt.
“In here, son!”
His stomach dropped, nerves growing tenfold at the sound of that voice. He was hoping that he was hallucinating. Or that it was one of Sehun’s playful pranks.
But all his hopes came crashing down when he turned the corner and walked into the dining room.
All of his brothers were seated along the sides of the long dining table, their backs straight, expressions tense and their hands resting clasped together upon the edge of the table.
And at the head of the table, sitting at the seat that was reserved for Chanyeol, was him.
The one man Chanyeol feared more than life itself. The one man Chanyeol had been hoping to avoid for quite a few centuries.
He hadn’t changed in the slightest, Chanyeol thought as he watched him sip a deep red wine from a crystal goblet, clutched between elegant fingers. If anything, he looked younger than before. No one could have guessed that this man, if you could only call him that, had been around since the creation of the universe itself.
He glowed, pale gold and unblemished skin, impossibly high cheekbones, rosy lips and a pointed chin. An array of earrings adorning one ear. Devastatingly handsome, what with his raven hair flopping artfully over the right side of his forehead. He was dressed in his usual, all black suit. Chanyeol had never seen him wear another colour in his life.
“Is this the way to greet your sire?” he spoke, the playfulness in his voice edged with a tinge of irritation.
“I’m sorry, Dad,” Chanyeol said, hurrying over to where he sat, falling to his knees before him, bowing his head.
He chuckled quietly, setting the goblet aside to grasp Chanyeol by his shoulders, making him rise to his feet as he stood as well, before he pulled him into his arms in a hug so constricting that it made him wince.
“Do I look old enough to be called Dad?” he asked. “You know what to call me, son.”
Even though he was taller than his father, Chanyeol was nowhere even close to his level of strength. And as he hugged him, Chanyeol glanced at the tattoo etched on the nape of his father’s neck: an Angel falling from Heaven, with its wings spread wide.
The irony made Chanyeol’s stomach twist every time he saw the tattoo. An Angel etched on the back of Satan’s neck?
A sickening taunt.
And the gravity of it hit Chanyeol even more strongly now, as his thoughts went directly to his own angel.
Bile rose up his throat and dread rose in his heart.
Pulling away once his father released him from the embrace, Chanyeol looked at his smirking face.
“It is good to see you, Jiyong.”

It’s 2 am before you finally decide that poetry is stupid.
Its 2 am and you should be in bed, fast asleep. Instead, you’re in your living room, legs tucked under you in your Papasan chair trying hard to focus on the last of your British Literature homework. And you’re failing miserably.
If you were a good student, you would have had this finished earlier and wouldn’t have waited until 9 hours before your class to even start it. If you were smart, you would have asked questions during class instead of counting down the seconds until you could escape the world of “But what does the author really mean?”.
Maybe you should stop falling asleep in the middle of that poetry movie your boyfriend likes.
Or maybe people should stop treating the world as if it was multiple shades of grey instead of the straight-forward black and white, cut and dry way that you view it. How selfish would you have to be though, to suddenly ask the seven billion people currently alive to stop creating areas of the world that don’t need to exist? Even if you could accomplish that, how would you travel back in time to ask the billions that have passed to write things in a way that future generations wouldn’t have to try and decipher their feelings?
Wouldn’t it just be easier for you to try and mix things together and try to live in a world other than your own? It probably would be, except you aren’t hardwired like that.
There were no grey areas for you. Life wasn’t a matter of “if this means this then maybe it could also be that too” for you. It wasn’t a matter of “maybe they're right in their own ways”. Being raised in a home where wrong was wrong and right was right didn’t leave room for anything other than compulsory thinking. Having a father for a cop didn’t leave room for anything other than compulsory thinking. It left room for a strict regime, blunt opinions, and the occasional harsh word.
Maybe that was what was wrong with you, why a grey world just didn’t click with you. Maybe it was a matter of still trying to impress someone who has been long since dead to you. Maybe it was a matter of trying not to be him that turned you around in life somewhere, only to spit you out to think just like him.
Apparently, tonight is a night that you can’t escape the thoughts that only you hold over yourself.
“Are you going really going to turn in an essay that says ‘poetry is bullshit’ or would you like help?” Hoseoks voice startles you, throws you off balance until you find yourself on the floor, looking up at his still puffy, freshly woken face.
“How long have you been standing there?” You rub your elbow as you sit up, reaching for your laptop and sighing in relief at its unscathed being. “Long enough for you to make a chew toy of your bottom lip. Come on, give me your hand.” You stand only because he pulls you up more than your legs actually lift you and his warm fingers are at your elbow as you gather your footing, rubbing gently at it. “Are you okay?”
“I’m okay. Hold this for a sec, please.” You hand Hoseok your laptop as you put the bowl part of your chair back on its stand, turning around to find him already settled on the couch, reaching for the remote to turn the light on.
Though it should be the last thing on your mind right now, you find that this Hoseok is your favorite. His black hair is in a mess from the way he sleeps, chest and neck still flushed from the warmth of the sheets and his body. The legs of his sweatpants are twisted, holding their askew position only because of the elastic at the ankles. He’s managed to lose a sock somewhere in his sleep and you can’t help but grin to yourself at the sight.
“You really should be in bed Hoho.”
“So should you, so hush. Is this the interpretation essay you’re supposed to turn in tomorrow?” He looks over at you with an eyebrow raised, patting the cushion next to him. “I thought you started this weeks ago?”
“I did the outline for it but I never actually picked a poem to do. I don’t even know why I’m taking this class, what does British Literature have to do with Biochemistry. None of this shit makes sense to me. One thing isn’t supposed to also mean another thing.” You plop down on the couch exasperated, running your fingers across your scalp and through your hair as you sigh.
“One thing can mean a hundred other things baby girl. Take this,” He puts your laptop back in your lap before shifting and sitting cross-legged, turned to face you. “and play ideas off of me. I’m up and I know how your mind works and I understand why none of this makes any sense to you. So, tell me what you think things could mean and I’ll counterpoint you.”
“How do you know how my mind works if I don’t…” You mumble to yourself more than you mean for him to hear, but he does and you can see him grin in your peripheral vision. “I know because it’s what I love the most about you, the way it processes everything. It, you, are my voice of reason, my pillars. Now, what poem are you doing?”
“I’m glad someone loves it because right now, I don’t. I don’t know the name of it, it’s one of the ones from that Robin Williams movie you watch religiously. Something about rosebuds.”
“Dead Poets Society and it’s called ‘To The Virgins, to Make Much Of Time’.”
You hum in acknowledgment as you search for it online, groaning as you find it. It makes less sense to you now, seeing the poem in its entirety. “What is this even supposed to mean?”
“It’s about making the most out of life while you can, while you’re still young and able to go and be adventurous. It’s saying don’t waste the life you have.”
“Then just say that.” Hoseok chuckles beside you and leans forward resting his chin on your shoulder.
“Okay, but if all poets and authors just wrote what they felt, then the romance of it all would be lost. Look at this first half of the first stanza. ‘Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, Old Time is still a-flying’. Old Time is capitalized, meaning the author thinks of time as something important, something that requires emphasis, thinks of time as something of a friend, something that requires status. Rosebuds can be literal, or a metaphor for something else. Rosebuds are roses not yet in bloom yet. Time changes things, takes them through their lives to deliver them at the end. Waiting for the roses to bloom shortens the beauty they have, shortens the time that you have to enjoy them. It ties in with the metaphor side of rosebuds. Rosebuds are life, friends, things you want to do or want to try. The longer you let them grow, let time take them, the shorter your chances are to enjoy them.”
This is Hoseok in his prime, in his element. You sometimes think his mind is wasted on his history major, finding it better suited for writing. Though you still find the idea of using metaphors and flowers to tell someone to live their life preposterous, it begins to make sense as Hoseok speaks. Well, as much sense as it can make to you.
“So when he says ‘And this same flower that smiles today, tomorrow will be dying.’ he’s still talking about making the most out of the time you have, to enjoy the things in front of you today, because they could be gone tomorrow?”
“Right.”
“Why put virgins in the title then.” You mean it more to be rhetorical, but Hoseok answers you anyway, shifting again to lean his head on your shoulder, reading as you type. “Some people think the poem is about women making the most of their prime and rosebuds are men. Stop typing ‘poetry is bullshit’ in the middle of your paragraph. Come on, what do you think about the next stanza?”
You fly through the next two stanzas thanks to Hoseok, listening to him explain his understanding of what Robert Herrick was trying to say. It becomes a back and forth conversation; where Hoseok explains his thoughts, you tell yours back, making sure to add how ridiculous you found the thought to be at the end of it.
While you couldn’t understand the need to write around the bush on what someone was truly trying to say, you could understand why Hoseok found it romantic. Because unlike your mind, Hoseok saw the beauty in a grey world. Where music was simply background noise for you most days, Hoseok could find the meaning in the instrumentals, could see the way the notes danced with each other, could see the way the semi-tonal shifts slid into something new while staying the same. It was one of the reasons you were so good together.
You kept him tethered and he made sure you put your head in the clouds.
It took time to figure out how the two of you functioned, longer after that to figure out how to function with each other. Arguments weren’t a rarity for you in the beginning of your relationship, two opposite ends of the universe crashing into each other in the middle. Where Hoseok could find meaning in a cloud, you simply looked to it for what it was, water floating in the sky.
You were grateful for that most days because it meant you could see the world through your eyes and his at the same time.
“What do you think the last part is saying, without my opinion first?” Your bottom lip goes between your teeth, biting down on it softly as you try to take the work you’ve been doing for the two and a half hours and use it to figure out the end of the poem on your own.
“’ Then be not coy, but use your time, and while ye may, go marry. I guess he’s saying don’t look at your life now and think you have all of it ahead of you to do the things you want to do, because flowing back to the first part, time is still flying. Your life could be over tomorrow, and you would have wasted the time you had today to live. Though I don’t get the go marry part.”
“What about it don’t you get?” The two of you have moved again, laptop placed on your raising tabletop, Hoseoks head taking its place in your lap. He looks up at you curious, a glimmer in his eyes and you can’t tell if it’s sleep or if he’s excited that you’re taking a trip into his world.
“Why put that in the poem? Not everyone wants to get married, that’s not something everyone sets as an accomplishment. And wouldn’t that be the opposite of living your life that Robert has been saying to do for the entire poem? Marriage ties you down, plants you into one place, puts your own dreams on hold as you tackle dreams you create with your partner.”
“Not necessarily. You’re right that not everyone sets that as a goal in their life, but given the time period Robert was alive, it was probably a thing most people aspired to. However, marriage doesn’t have to mean the end of an adventurous life. There are couples that travel the world together, that don’t have the dream to create a family, simply create a home in another person. There are couples who just follow one person to their dream before switching and following the other's dreams, then set goals together. Some couples it is their goal to start families, to start the next chapter in their adventures. That’s where personal intuition comes into play.” Hoseok stretches, his arms stretched over your thighs, hands resting on the cushion next to you. He yawns and you notice the bags starting to form under his eyes, the way his face starts to puff up again as sleep starts to work its way through his body.
“Well, then what does it mean to you?” The two of you have never discussed marriage, simply gone along in your relationship, enjoying each other outside of rings and papers. You’ve lived together for the last three of your five-year relationship, and even then, it wasn’t something you felt the need to do to take the next step. It was simply the smarter option since one of you was always at the others house anyway.
“It’s another adventure for me, if or whenever it happens. It’s not something I have set to do before I die, but if it happens, it happens and it’s something new for me to experience with someone that I would obviously be head over heels for. Maybe kids after a few years, but I would want to get the most out of the time I would have with my wife when it’s just us two, then create new dreams to do as a whole family.”
“It’s not something I have an aspiration for either. But I suppose same if it happens it happens.” You shrug before looking back over the poem, reading the last two lines. Stiffness is setting in your shoulders and you roll them, groaning as they pop and you find yourself grateful that you’re almost done with this paper. You decided somewhere in the midst of the hours that you’ve spent working on this that you’re simply going to email your paper to your professor and spend the day sleeping, thankful that you only have the one class on Fridays.
Hoseok yawns again and you know you’ve exhausted him, using both brain and energy to try and finish this essay. “Last two, whatcha got?”
“I think it’s talking about wasting time, wasting the chance you have to live. ‘For having lost but once your prime, You may forever tarry.’ It’s talking about not waiting too long before you gather your rosebuds, whatever they may be. Once you’re older, past your prime, it’s harder for you to do things, to adventure and to take the chances that life gives you. You have more responsibilities, bodies not as agile as they used to be. I’m guessing he’s using tarry with the definition of lingering in expectation, so he’s saying that if you wait past your prime, wait to live life as it’s presented to you, you’ll be waiting forever.”
“Mm, that’s how I think of it too.”
You sigh in relief as he agrees, quickly writing out a conclusion before saving the essay and emailing it to your professor, letting her know you won’t be in class later on today. Hoseok moans as he sits up, back popping from laying in a stiff position for so long. You’re quick to shut the lid of your laptop, reaching out and running your fingers through his hair as your stand. “Come on Hoho, let’s go to bed.”
Your sheets are cold from being absent for so long and you press your body against Hoseoks almost as soon as you’re under the covers. You tuck your face in the crook of his shoulder, arm draped over his waist, leg tucked between his. His legs hug yours, his own arms pulling you tight against him. One of his hands pulls your arm from over his waist, lacing his fingers with your own, holding it tightly between your chests.
You’re almost asleep when your brain questions it, nearly three hours later. “Why were you awake?”
He hums, pressing his lips softly against your forehead as he answers, voice thick and arenaceous. “I wanted to hold your hand, but you weren’t in bed. So I got up to find you.”
You can’t help but laugh before asking again, “You woke up because why?”
He grins against your hair, giving your fingers a squeeze, “I wanted to hold your hand”.

The next morning you woke to the sound of birds chirping. It was half way through September so the days of scorching summer heat were coming to a close and birds were finally taking to the trees again…at least until it got too cold.
You could hear your mother downstairs preparing for the day. She was humming along to the radio and the smell of pancakes had made its way under your door and was currently flooding your senses. Your stomach grumbled in protest and you stretched lazily before standing up, scratching your back and making your way to the bathroom.
You could see your dad in the backyard chopping fire wood to get ready for your barbecue and you washed your face quickly so that you could go down stairs and eat before helping him set up. He usually left a few pieces of wood for you to have a go at, even though your mother was often squawking in the background about how dangerous it was. It’s not like you were swinging the ax at your body, for crying out loud.
“Good morning!” Your mother chirped excitedly once you’d made your way into the kitchen.
“Morning, mom.” You smiled as she motioned for you to sit down and placed a plate of pancakes in front of you.
“So did Lucas say he can make it?”
“Yeah, he said he wants to come over early to help dad grill. Do you think dad would be OK with that?”
“I’m sure he would! Oh honey, I’m so happy, you know how much I like that boy. He’s always so respectful.”
“I like him too,” you blushed, taking a bite of your pancakes after soaking them in (probably too much) syrup. “What time are the Jeon’s coming over?”
“Actually, Jungkook’s already out back with your dad helping him to cut some of the fire wood.”
“What?!” You balked and your mother shushed you, rolling her eyes animatedly.
“Calm down, your father said he’d save you a few pieces,” at your smile she frowned, wiping her hands on her apron. “I wish you wouldn’t do that, you know. Chopping wood is dangerous, just let the men do it.”
“1950 called, they want their antiquated ideas back.”
“Oh hush,” your mother chuckled, swatting at you across the island, “you know what I mean.”
“It’s not like I’m putting my hand on the chopping block.” You replied smartly as you polished off one pancake. “What about his parents?”
“They’ll be over later.” Your mother replied, turning back to the stove and pouring more batter onto the skillet.
After finishing your food and washing your plate, you grabbed your hoodie from the hook by the door, pulling it over your head and hurrying outside into the backyard. “Lemme at it!” You called eagerly, rushing towards your father as he grinned and held the ax out to you.
“Here, I’ll be right back, gotta go grab some of the chairs from the garage. Don’t start chopping until I get back.” You nodded, watching as your dad walked into the garage before you turned back to the firewood, grabbing a piece and standing it up straight and then pulling the ax into the air.
“Your dad said to wait.” Jungkook called lazily, walking up beside you and you turned your gaze to glare at him.
“Mind your own business, Jungkook.” You hissed, pulling the ax a little higher before Jungkook put his hand on the wooden handle, pushing it down a little.
“It wouldn’t be very responsible of me to just let you go at it.” He insisted and you rolled your eyes, lowering the ax to the ground and turning to face him.
“You’re not my boss, Jeon, so how ‘bout you back off?”
Before you could even lift the ax above your waist Jungkook was behind you, wrapping his arms around your middle and gripping the handle of the ax firmly. “At least let me help you.”
“Get off me, plebeian. I’ve been chopping wood since I was 10 years old, I’ve got this.” You wrestled around in his arms, trying to get him to loosen his grip, but he only held firmer.
“Stop messing around.” Jungkook scolded, “Hasn’t anyone ever told you an ax is dangerous. You’re wielding this thing like a maniac.”
“You sound like my mother.” You griped, “get.off.”
“OK!” Your father called, stepping back out of the garage, four fold up chairs in his hands and Jungkook instantly let you go, stepping away and you sent a glare over your shoulder at him, but he was already making his way to your father’s side and offering assistance.
“Suck up.” You scoffed under your breath.
“OK, baby girl,” your dad called, jogging towards you, “you ready to chop some wood?”
“Born ready!” You smiled.
30 minutes later Lucas arrived and you smiled as he walked towards you, pulling you into a hug and linking your fingers together. Jungkook looked at you, frowning, before your dad came over to greet the new addition.
“Lucas! So good to see you. How long are you in town for?”
“Not long, unfortunately. My university follows a quarter system so I’ll only be here for about two weeks.”
“That sucks.” Jungkook commented noncommittally and you flicked your gaze at him in irritation as he kept his eyes trained on the fence to your right.
“You’ll just have to make it worth your while, then. A barbecue is definitely one way to enjoy your time!”
“Especially since the season is coming to a close,” Lucas remarked, “This will probably be one of my last barbecues.”
“Well why don’t you and Y/N go inside and relax, I can finish preparations by myself.” Your dad smiled, clapping Lucas on the shoulder.
“No can do, sir.” Lucas shook his head, “my mom raised me to get my hands dirty and that’s what I’m here to do. Put me to work.”
“Good man.” Your dad grinned.
“Me too!” Jungkook said loudly, and you threw a raised eyebrow his way, but he didn’t spare you a glance, “Whatever you need. Heavy lifting? Cooking? Cleaning? I’ve got you, sir.”
“Excellent. Good to see your parents are raising you right. Y/N, honey, why don’t you go inside and relax?”
“That’s ok, dad, I don’t mind helping.”
“It’s cool, we’ve got this covered.” Jungkook insisted and you turned to frown at him. Was his chest puffed a little higher?
Before you could comment on him being more obnoxious than normal, your sister was calling for you out the backdoor and you sighed, retreating to the sanctuary of the house.
“Mom wants us to work on the pie and the salad. I’ll rock paper scissors you for the salad.”
“You’re on!” You smirked.
You shouldn’t have been so confident, you thought, frowning down at the lattice work you were doing on the top of the strawberry rhubarb pie. Your mother always insisted your pies were the best, but they were so time consuming and you’d just much rather switch off your brain and chop vegetables.
You could see your dad, Lucas, Jungkook, and Jungkook’s dad in the backyard setting up the grill and you watched as Jungkook took the lighter and hid it so Lucas couldn’t start the fire. What a petty loser. Lucas looked around cutely for a moment before shrugging and rummaging in his pocket, pulling out a packet of matches and you grinned. He had been in scouts, like Jungkook was now, and you knew he’d always taken the always be prepared motto seriously. Jungkook sulked in the background before his father called him over and he walked out of view.
“So how’d you manage to snag Lucas?” Ella asked obnoxiously and you turned to face her, rolling your eyes.
“Green’s a terrible shade on you.” You replied, finishing off the final lattice to your pie and smiling contentedly.
“I’m just saying.” She shrugged, “he’s in college now, looking for bigger and better things, has a soulmate tattoo, kind of seems like dating a high school girl is a step backwards, don’t you think?”
“He doesn’t believe in the whole “soulmates” thing.” You said, walking your pie to the oven and putting it on the center rack. You stepped back to set the timer and dusted your hands off on your apron.
“Well aren’t the two of you just a pair.” Ella replied, taking a bite of a piece of chopped cucumber. Just then all the men returned from the back and Ella turned to smile radiantly at them.
“Everything’s all set to go.” Your dad smiled, sniffing and walking to the kitchen sink to wash his hands. “Ella, go grab your mom and your aunty so we can get this party started.”
Lucas washed his hands and came to stand beside you, wrapping his arm around your waist and you smiled up at him, curling into the warmth of his shoulder. Your mother, Mrs. Jeon, and Ella returned from the living room and the two women started giving orders for everyone to grab paper plates and help take things outside to the back to get started grilling.
“Come with me.” You smiled, grabbing Lucas’ hand and pulling him back into the backyard with you. "First we eat and just talk. Once we're done eating we clean up our plates and then go to the living room to play games. We leave the food out in case anyone wants to do some grazing."
"Sounds reasonable," Lucas smiled, "what kind of games?"
"Anything," you shrugged, "we play card games, games with dice, twister, whatever. As long as we've got the stuff for it, we can play it."
"Oh, twister! I haven't played that since I was a kid. I'm definitely down for that."
"You like Twister?" Ella grinned from behind you, "that was my favorite game from when I was a little kid. It helped me get really flexible."
"Ew." You griped, wrinkling your nose and Ella blushed.
"I didn't mean it like that you weirdo."
Lucas chuckled and smiled down at her, "it's cool that you're flexible. I can barely even touch my toes. Are you gonna try out for cheer leading?"
Ella shook her head, "No, actually, I'm in gymnastics."
"When's your next competition?" Jungkook asked from behind Ella, shoveling a large heap of chili into a bowl, "my mom was wondering and I think it would be cool to come and see one."
"Really?" Ella blushed, "you want to come to one of my gymnastics competitions?"
"Sure," Jungkook nodded, "why not?"
"Gymnastics is different from cheer leading, Jungkook, they won't be wearing miniskirts." You smirked and he rolled his eyes down at you.
"I know the difference, thanks."
You finished filling your plate and went to sit in one of the chairs underneath the big oak tree in your back garden and waited for Lucas to come and sit back beside you. After the four of you had settled into your seats and your parents nearby, you all began eating, chatting lightly as the morning bled into the early afternoon.
After eating you returned to the house, throwing your plates away and walked to the living room, taking a seat on the couch. Games would start soon, but you had a good ten minutes of bickering to endure before the game was picked so you pulled Lucas down beside you.
"So what do you want to study anyway? Lillian said that you were thinking about some kind of technology something."
"Yeah, maybe," Lucas nodded, pulling your hand into his lap, "I was looking at doing something like engineering, specifically robotic. I'm interested in animatronics."
"Wow, that's cool! Like A.I?"
"I mean, who knows, opportunity is limitless, you know? I was thinking maybe stuff like at Disney, for now. Or other kind of theme parks that use animatronics in their rides."
"Wow, honestly, that's amazing. I've never met someone who wants to do that sort of thing."
Lucas laughed, laying his head back against the top of the couch. "You're not the only one. It seems like most people forget that's something you can actually study."
"It's really cool, Lucas. Will you take me to see some of your robots when they're in the parks?" You grinned, wiggling your eyebrows at him, tongue trapped between your teeth.
"I'll take you anywhere." He smiled softly.
You blushed, burying your head in his shoulder and he chuckled. "Wow, you appreciate cheesy. I love it. I've got dad jokes for days so I hope you're prepared for that."
"Oh no!" You groaned, shaking your head. "I'd like to rescind my acceptance of your dating proposal..." You mused and Lucas laughed, smacking your leg.
"Hey now, you're stuck with me. No getting out of it now, missy." You smiled, leaning your head against his shoulder and he brushed some hair from your cheek. "So what do you want to study when you go to college?"
"That is a great question," you sighed, "I know I want to do something in the medical field. I'm thinking maybe labor and delivery. It would be really cool to be a part of a moment that literally changes people's lives."
"You mean like a labor and delivery doctor or nurse?" He pondered.
"Yeah, maybe," you shrugged, "I'm thinking I'll work towards medical school and once I'm there I'll kind of try out some different things in rotations and figure out what I like."
"My girlfriends gonna be a doctor." Lucas grinned and you chuckled.
"No need to look so smug about it, who knows, maybe I'll flunk out of the program."
Your mother called everyone's attention suddenly, clapping her hands in excitement. "OK, as per usual, we're gonna play some games, let the food settle and then go back for desserts. What game do we want to play first?"
Ella started shouting something out about playing the board game life, your father was insisting he had a score to settle with Jungkook's dad over a poker match and you reclined in your spot to watch in amusement.
"This is how it always goes," you whispered to Lucas, "they argue for 5 minutes and then we end up playing Rummy first because no one can make up their mind."
"Rummy?" Lucas asked.
"Yeah, it's a card game. It's meant to be played with everyone as a single player, but we play it in teams to up the stakes. I'll explain as we go."
"Cool."
Jungkook suddenly wiggled himself right in between the two of you and you looked at him, eyebrows furrowed. "What are you doing?"
He looked at you, face the picture of innocence. "We're playing Rummy. Your mom told me to be on your team so here I am."
"And you couldn't sit in an open chair?"
"I prefer the middle." He said casually, leaning back against the couch.
"Since when?" You griped, looking over Jungkook's head to Lucas who looked just as bewildered as you felt, squished up against the side of the couch. "Well, whatever, Lucas and I were sitting together. You can't just shove your way between us."
Jungkook looked at the both of you before shrugging, "you guys have been together all day; I think you can handle being apart for an hour. Besides, your mom is looking this way."
You glanced over at your mom who smiled at you, sending you a thumbs up and you sighed, leaning back into the couch. "Whatever." You grumbled.
Jungkook's leg was too warm against your own and you watched as Lucas tried to engage him in conversation while Jungkook answered in short sentences and stiff replies.
What was his problem? Why sit in between the two of you if he didn't even want to have a conversation? You could see Ella eyeing Jungkook and pouting from the other side of the room as your dad finished setting up the game and then pushed the tables together so they could all sit around.
Why was she so obvious? It was starting to get embarrassing. Jungkook shifted and the smell of his cologne assaulted your senses. He always smelled so good, just another thing to add to the list of what you hated about him.
"OK!" Your dad clapped loudly, bringing you back to the conversation, "what should the winner’s prize be? We already agreed that the loser gets no pie but what's a good prize for a winner?"
"What if we let the winner choose their prize?" Your mom suggested.
"It has to be reasonable, though!" You cried, "The winner can't just want to have all the pie and then they get it, you know?"
"I don't know why you're so worried," Jungkook smiled "you wouldn't get pie either way since you're going to lose."
"You're on Jeon!" You screeched and your parents laughed.
"You're on the same team!" Your mother tittered and you frowned, slumping in your seat. You'd forgotten that little tidbit.
"Fine," you sniffed, "I'm just saying, anyway. The prize should be fair."
"OK," Mr. Jeon smiled, "I think everyone agrees, the winners can choose their prize but it needs to be within reason."
"Let's start, let's start!" Mrs. Jeon grinned, leaning forward across the table and grabbing the cards. "I'll deal."
"Fine," your mom agreed, "but this time cut them fairly. No cheating Jieun!"
Mrs. Jeon laughed, shuffling the cards and beginning to set the table up to play. "Cross my heart." She winked.
No one was shocked when Mrs. Jeon's team won, and your mom, despite her best friend’s vehement insistence that she didn't, was convinced she'd rigged the game.
You laughed until your stomach hurt, watching the two bicker like only friends of 30 odd years could. Jungkook was still sat between you and Lucas, playing a game of piano tiles on his phone and just generally being in the way.
"So, Jungkook," Lucas said, clearing his throat, "what are you thinking of doing when you get to college?"
Jungkook shrugged, never removing his eyes from the screen of the phone, "was thinking maybe law." He mumbled absentmindedly. You shot Lucas a look over Jungkook's shoulder, sighing.
"Are you gonna join in the conversation or just continue being a massive road block who's ignoring our existence."
"It depends," Jungkook said, huffing in irritation when he hit a few wrong notes, "you guys actually talking about anything interesting?"
"Well, we're trying but you're literally right in the middle of us." You sneered and Jungkook smirked.
"Sucks to suck." He chuckled, cursing when he missed a few more notes.
"Fine, we'll just go somewhere else." You huffed, standing and grabbing Lucas's hand to pull him away. "Let's go sit on the love seat over there."
After you and Lucas had moved to the other side of the room, Ella took her chance, swooping in to Jungkook's side and trying to distract him from his game. She was at least successful in garnering his attention and you were surprised to see him put away his phone and turn to engage her.
"He's such a weirdo." You muttered and Lucas chuckled.
"Don't think about him. He probably has a crush on you or something."
"Ew," you gagged, eyebrows shrinking in on themselves. "I doubt it. I know boys pull hair when they like a girl, but he's passed the point of cute teasing. He's just a flat out bully."
“I’ve gotta go soon, promised my sister we’d hang out for a bit today.” He reminded and you turned to pout at him.
“How soon is soon?” “In about 10 minutes.” He chuckled, pinching your cheek and you swatted his hand away.
“Well, I guess it’s only fair that I share you with your family.” You sighed dramatically.
“How magnanimous of you.”
“Wow, that’s a big word. College has changed you.” You teased and Lucas laughed.
“Hey, walk me to the door?”
“OK.” You pouted, standing and leading him towards the front door. He linked his arms around your waist, staring down at your face and smiled.
"If you're interested, I kind of thought it might be fun to drive out in my truck later and look at the stars. I mean, I know it's getting kind of cold but I've got blankets and I can bring hot chocolate or something." He said, scratching the back of his neck and you smiled.
"Yeah, that sounds really nice!"
"Really? Cool! I kind of thought you’d say no,” he chuckled, “Can I come by again at 7?"
"That sounds great!" You grinned.
After seeing Lucas off in his beat up Toyota pickup, you returned to the house to help your mom clean. Jungkook, his dad, and your dad were cleaning up the furniture and your mom, sister, and Jungkook's mom were all putting away the food and washing off the tables. You snagged a cookie from the tray, bitter about the fact you couldn’t have any pie and glared at the winning team, Ms. Jeon’s smile too wicked for your liking. She probably had rigged the game.
"Honey, can you grab the left over stuff from the back yard?" Your mom called and you nodded, making your way out the back door. There was a lot of stuff still out there, but you were determined to only do it in one trip.
You pushed all the food into a pile before beginning to stack them all together. It was gonna be pretty precarious, if you were honest, but you'd already come this far and you were no quitter.
"That's gonna fall."
You turned to glare as Jungkook rested his hip against the table beside you. "Don't you have a couch to move?"
"Your dad asked me to grab the chairs from out here."
"Then grab." You huffed, placing the last of the hot dog bun packs on top of your stack and wiggling your arms around the load. Jungkook didn't budge, content to watch you fail and he didn't have to watch long.
You flailed spectacularly as the packs of buns and chips came apart and fell to the ground. Grunting in irritation, you bent down to begin picking them up, the sound of Jungkook's laughter grating on your last damn nerve.
"Here," he said, once he finally finished laughing, "Let me help you carry some of that in."
"I'm not a charity case, Jungkook." You snapped and he grinned, squatting down beside you and grabbing some of the towering bags from your hands.
"I know you're not. I just want to help."
"You? Help?" You mocked and Jungkook rolled his eyes, chuckling.
"Man, you really think I suck, huh?"
"Kind of." You shrugged, relinquishing some of the bread to him despite yourself. If he really wanted to help then fine, you'd prefer to lighten your load anyway.
"How can I change that?" He mused, following you into the house.
You glanced around the room, making sure your mother wasn't in close proximity.
"By not being a douche." You said flippantly and Jungkook laughed loudly.
"Anything else?"
"Yeah, stop pulling my hair and kicking my chair. Honestly, what are you, 5?" You said, dropping the bags of food onto the counter and turning to face him.
He dropped the other bags beside you before settling in front of you, a little too close if you were being honest. "OK, done."
"Really?" You frowned, eyebrow rising. "What's the catch?"
"No catch," Jungkook shrugged, "just over the whole childhood feud thing." He smiled, tweaking your nose and you slapped his hand away.
"Stop touching me." You hissed, just as Jungkook's dad rounded the corner.
"Hey bud, did you finish with the chairs?"
Jungkook shook his head, "Not yet, was helping Y/N get the food. I'll do it now." He quickly spun around, making his way back to the backyard and you rubbed at your nose before leaving the kitchen and heading up the stairs to your room.
You had a few hours before Lucas would come back to pick you up and you intended to spend every one of those minutes in your pajamas. Pulling the longest, fluffiest socks you had out of your drawer, you shimmied out of your jeans and into a pair of shorts and an old baggy t-shirt before pulling the long socks up your legs and flailing on your bed with your phone.
A sudden knock at your door roused your attention and you looked over just as your dad peaked his head in. "We're gonna watch a movie together, come down please."
"I just got comfortable!" You whined and he smiled.
"Come get comfortable downstairs. You've got 5 minutes."
The door closed, stealing your chance at a witty remark and you buried your face in your pillow, huffing. It would probably be too much to ask if somehow the Jeon's had magically gone home.
You could hear Jungkook's mother laughing from the living room and you sighed. Not that you didn't like her, of course, because you did...but Jungkook was acting weird and you didn't have the energy for it.
Grabbing your phone from the covers, you trudged your way back down stairs and squished yourself beside your sister on the love seat. She looked at you, huffing her lips into a pout and you frowned.
"Do I stink or something?" You frowned.
"No, I was just hoping Jungkook would take the spot." She sighed and you chuckled.
"Of course he wouldn't. You're forgetting he has a girlfriend, Ella."
"Nothing is permanent." She sniffed and you laughed.
"True." You nodded. "So are we watching the usual?"
"I don't even ask anymore," she sighed, "it's just a fact of life by now."
“Well they better hurry up,” you said, “Lucas is coming back at 7 and we’re going out so I haven’t got a lot of time to kill.”
“What are you guys gonna do?” Ella asked, flicking through her Instagram absentmindedly.
“Gonna do some star gazing.”
“How 90’s romcom of you.” She smarted and you smirked.
“I’ll see that jealousy and raise you a lifelong crush as a boyfriend. Let me live my 90’s fantasy, you Grinch.”
Ella scoffed, but her smile betrayed her and before you could say anything your parents were shushing you and dimming the lights.
Not long after the movie had finished and you’d snacked on some of the leftover food for dinner, Lucas was knocking on the front door and you were jumping back into your jeans and rushing from the house with quick goodbyes to your family and racing into the cab of Lucas’ truck. You talked animatedly the whole drive and Lucas told you funny stories about his roommate that had you nearly wetting your pants.
“Here we are.” He said, pulling off a dirt lane and out to a small patch of grass. It was mostly removed from the lights of the city so the stars were relatively easy to see. Lucas grabbed the blankets from beside him and made his way to the bed of the truck, laying them out before grabbing a thermos of hot chocolate and two plastic cups.
“Let me help you.” He said, standing by the back of the taillight and wrapping his hands around your hips, lifting you up. You crawled further into the back, kicking off your shoes and burrowing under the mountain of blankets he’d brought to keep you warm.
He climbed up next to you, placing the hot chocolate off to the side before climbing under the blankets with you and you nuzzled your face into his neck, staring up at the sky. “This is nice.” You said softly. “The stars are beautiful.”
“They are.” He replied, wrapping his arms around you and pulling you closer into his side. “Thank you again for inviting me over to the barbecue. It was really fun. Felt like nothings really changed since I graduated and went off to college.”
“And that’s a good thing?” You asked, raising your eyebrow at him and he chuckled.
“Yeah, it’s a comfort zone. Feels good to come back to the familiar. I mean, things changed, obviously, but so many things were the same that I didn’t feel out of place.”
“Mm,” you hummed. “I hope that when I go off to college everything changes. I want more from life, I want to move up in the world. I want my parents to stop babying my, my sister to stop being a pest, and Jungkook to fade into nothing more than a rotten memory.”
Lucas laughed, his chest rumbling under your cheek and you grinned up at him. “What about me and Lil and Noelle? You wanna keep us around?”
“Of course!” You said, clinging tighter to his waist, “I hope you guys are in my life forever. It feels like this is the beginning of something really great, you know?” You mumbled shyly. You weren’t even sure Lucas’ feelings were that deep, but you decided to put yourself out there a little and test the waters.
“Yeah, I do.” He nodded, “We’ve got a lot of potential. Limitless, you know?”
“Yeah.” You breathed, and he looked down at you, smiling.
"You look really beautiful." Lucas whispered.
You snuggled closer to him, head tipped up to look at his face. "Really?" You murmured, "Even with my messy hair and ripped jeans?"
"Especially with your messy hair and ripped jeans." Lucas chuckled. You smiled, blissful. His shaggy blonde hair had fallen into his eyes and he looked so handsome. Like every one of your childhood dreams come true.
“Can you kiss me?” You whispered.
“Now?” He mumbled and you nodded, watching as he smiled, lowering his face closer to yours before you closed your eyes and moved your face up to greet his, noses grazing slightly as his lips settled over yours.
He was warm and soft and felt like butter melting into every dip of your mouth, kiss languid in its perusal of your taste. Perfection. It was too quick, just a mere taste before he was pulling back, forehead resting against yours and a smile on his lips.
“Thank you for coming out with me tonight.” He whispered.
“Thank you for inviting me out.” You smiled, “…but I think you promised hot chocolate.”
Lucas laughed, chest rumbling against your own and sat up to retrieve the thermos and cups. “Here, let me fix that real quick.”
You stayed up laughing and talking, hot chocolate in hand until it was gone and was too cold outside to stay any longer before Lucas dropped you off back at your house with the promise of tomorrow. This was the start of something big. You just knew it.
Thank you so much for being patient with me while I wrote this chapter! The contract for my job is winding down and it’s been a very busy last few months. I’ve got 2 weeks left and then my mom is coming to visit me in Korea for 2 weeks so I won’t be able to start writing for chapter 4 until the end of March. Bear with me while I get over this new hurdle. Thank you loves. I hope you enjoyed!

But he would also try his best to help you with minimal jokes
Honestly he can’t help himself and it doesn’t help that he thinks your laugh is the cutest thing in the world

He loves to be healthy and work out
Would throw all the unhealthy food in your kitchen away

Would always try to take you to the gym with him
Loves seeing you try to work out and would definitely laugh when you complained of how tired you were
But he really likes to bring you so he can show off his muscles
HIS ABS WOW
Moving on, you two would go on health kicks
Always trying to feed you green tea and kale chips
On the weekend tho, you order take out and eat so much food
And wake up and regret it on Monday
Jackson is protective but not the jealous type when it comes to other guys
Loves to show you off
So when other guys look at you when you go out he just smiles to himself
Knowing that you’re his and only his
But that doesn’t mean that he isn’t needy and wants all of your attention always
If you were talking with other guy friends
Or just hanging out and talking to someone else
He would climb on top of you or instantly wrap his arms around you
And whine until you gave him the attention he needs
Not in an annoying way but more funny
Kinda cute when he needs your attention
Loves to cuddle
Doesn’t seem like the type to love it
But he just wants to be close to you all the time
Loves when you sit on his lap or lay in his arms
Always rubbing your back or running his fingers through your hair absentmindedly
Also the type to spoil you
Would take you out shopping and buy you the most expensive thing in the store
So many diamond necklaces
Would also be the type to buy matching designer outfits
The ugliest, most expensive outfits he can find
Would find it so funny and cute to go out in public together in these outfits
Expensive dinner dates every date night
He knows he doesn’t need to spend all this money on you
But it makes him so happy to treat you like a princess
Send you cute messages telling you he loves you
But also sends you hilarious videos of him doing something stupid
Send you a selfie and says “I’m so hot right?”
To which you roll your eyes and smile

Loves to call you because he likes to hear the sound of your voice
Want to show you in every way how much he cares about you

Ruin the Friendship (M)
Pairing: You / Jungkook
Rating: 18+ (explicit sex)
Warnings: (oral, dirty talk, body worship)
Word Count: 8,062
Summary: your drunk ass best friend keeps calling you to take care of him and it wouldn’t be so awful, if it weren’t for The Feelings. (best friends to lovers!AU)
“Y/N!” a voice yells the second you enter the bar.
Music thumps through the room, hazy with the scents of sweat and alcohol – you wind your way towards the back, having difficulty seeing where you are going. People continue to bump into you, drinks nearly spilling at least two or three times on the way.
"Ah!” you yelp when someone steps on your toes. Scowling angrily, you glare at a stiletto-ed freshman. “Watch where you’re going,” you snap. In response, they giggle and drunkenly lope towards the bar.
Pushing hair away from your neck, you exhale, since you have only been here five minutes and already find yourself sweating. Continuing onward, you rise up on tiptoe because these people are not the reason you are here, the reason you are here is –
“Y/N!” Jungkook crows, nearly knocking you over in his haste to get closer. He buries his face in your shoulder, wrapping both arms around you while lifting you off of your feet. Jungkook’s breath is hot, smelling of tequila and mint; you groan at his antics, struggling to right yourself when he sets you back down.
“Jeon,” you bemoan, turning to face him.
Jungkook pushes a hand through his hair. “You came,” he announces, a giant grin plastered over his face.
Truly, the happiest people in this world are babies and drunk assholes.
“Yes, Jeon,” you sigh, tapping the screen of your phone. “Shall I read our exchange? You texted, ‘Hey, Y/N,’” you quote, scrolling through his messages, “’what shot should I do?’ Me: ‘uh, idk.’ You: ‘pick oneee’ Me: ‘ha u drunk already, kook?’ You: ‘I picked tequila’” Grinning, you look up at him. “Except you didn’t spell it tequila, you wrote ‘tewoya.’”
“Te-wo-ya.” Jungkook tests this version out. “Sounds… bitchin’.”
“Bitchin’?”
“Yeah. Cowabunga.”
“Lord,” you groan, as Jungkook cracks himself up. “O-kay,” you say, sliding one arm around his waist. “I think that’s enough of Drunkkook for tonight.”
“Drunkkook,” Jungkook repeats, happily draping himself over your shoulders. “Thanksforcomingtopickmeup, Y/N.”
“No problem.”
Grumbling, you make your way towards the door. Jungkook’s feet drag behind you, taking long, exaggerated steps to match your stride.
“Y/N,” he whispers, breath tickling your ear, “your legs are so…”
“Hot?” you supply, juggling his weight to push open the door. “Shapely? Toned?”
“Short.”
“Yep,” you say, shoving into the night. “There it is.”
“Hey, JEON!” someone yells and Jungkook glances up, nearly smacking your head to peer into the bar.
“Ow! Kook!” you complain, while he searches the crowd.
“What?” Jungkook yells, craning his neck towards the noise.
He finds the source near the pool tables; two dark-haired guys waving energetically goodbye. “SEEYA!” Hoseok yells, while Seokjin snickers into his cup. “HAVE A GOOD NIGHT WITH YOUR GIRLFRIEND!”
Jungkook’s mouth drops but before he can respond, you spring into action to yank him fast out the door. “Let’s go,” you demand, nearly tripping over a heat lamp in the process. “My apartment is only a block away, Jeon. Let’s go there.”
"Alright,” he pouts, mumbling something incoherent while he allows himself to be pulled. Placing his hand in yours seems like the most logical option – Jungkook does not seem to mind, trotting obediently behind you down the length of the Ave. The street is busy. Not as crowded as inside the bar but still, it necessitates a fair amount of winding on your part. It takes all your concentration just to make it to your front door, which means there is no time to contemplate the drunk nonsense his friends were spouting.
Jungkook, your boyfriend – unlikely.
Jungkook has been a steady fixture in your life for years. It is hard to remember when, exactly, your friendship began. High school was the first time you saw him – in all of Jungkook’s defensive, hockey star glory – but the first time you spoke was freshman year of University. Jungkook plopped into the seat beside you in Econ and you did a double take, not having realized he attended this school.
Perhaps you should have. In hindsight, it would have made more sense for you to have known, given all the scholarship attention Jungkook received senior year. It was not a priority for you though, you two had barely ever spoken and for him to accept a scholarship anywhere was not a blip on your radar.
Enter Econ 101. You noticed Jungkook in the same way you notice a lot of things – seeing them without really caring. Trees you pass on the street, buildings beside the one that you enter. Jeon Jungkook was like that to you, just another piece of scenery – until he reached out and tapped you on the shoulder.
“Yes?” you blinked, looking up. “Can I help you?”
He must have come straight from practice, since he was still dressed head to toe in athletic apparel – you rolled your eyes, since Jungkook clearly wanted you to know he was an athlete. The situation was made worse by the fact that you did know who he was, but not from college – from high school. Even worse than that, Jungkook did not seem to remember you at all.
He slouched low in his chair, arching a brow. “Yeah. Can I borrow a pencil?”
It was the worst pick-up line you had ever experienced. The sleaze factor was at an all-time high; Jungkook sat there with one eyebrow cocked, his right arm draped over the back of his chair. His legs were man-spread, as though waiting for someone to sit. Jungkook looked slightly bored, as though he were expecting a reaction.
He got one, all right – just not the one he was hoping for. “Are you serious?” you snorted, looking down at your notes. “You’ve got to be kidding.”
Uncertainty flickered across his expression. “I – no? I really need a pencil.”
“Sure,” you said, nodding at his gym bag. “Whatever sports gear you have in there tends to become obsolete in the classroom. Maybe next time you should bring a bookbag if you want to take notes.”
That said, you resumed writing and Jeon Jungkook stared, confused by your response. He did not stay silent for long, leaning over to tap you again on the arm.
“Yes?” you responded, looking sideways.
Jungkook scowled. “There’s no need to be rude, you know.”
“Oh, please.” You rolled your eyes. “You and I both know what you’re doing.”
“Oh?” Jungkook crossed both arms over his chest – it caused his muscles to bulge at the action, which was thoroughly distracting. “And what, exactly, am I doing?”
“You’re being an ass.”
“Oh?” Jungkook nearly choked on his laughter. “By asking you for a pencil? Sure.” He nodded, waving a hand. “Alert the media. Jeon Jungkook is on the loose! Ravaging nearby neighbors for pencils, oh no!”
“Save it,” you huffed, turning forward. “It wasn’t what you said, it was how you said it.”
Most of his surprise had disappeared by this point – most of his confusion, too – leaving Jungkook simply curious. “How did I say it?” he asked, as if he genuinely cared.
Chewing on your lower lip, you debated how honest to be before deciding full-frontal.
“Like you wanted me to sit on your dick,” you said, swiveling to face him. “Your legs were spread wide enough when you asked.”
Jungkook’s brows shot up. “Shit,” he exhaled, chuckling to himself. “Wow…”
When he faced forward and said nothing more, uncertainty began to enter your thoughts. “Was I wrong?” you asked, peering at him. Strangely, you found yourself interested in his response.
A smile played at his lips and he offered a shrug. “No, you were right.”
When Jungkook admitted it, you grinned. “See? I was right not to give you my pencil.”
“Maybe.” Jungkook shrugged, tapping the edge of your desk. “But what about your name?”
Though you would never admit it (Jungkook seemed cocky enough as it was), your heart raced when he asked you. He was cute, charming but despite this (or perhaps because of this), you drew a hard line in the sand when it came to him. He was was clearly a fuckboy – that much became obvious during the first campus party you attended.
A few weeks into the school year, Jungkook, for whatever reason (pity, interest or other) decided to invite you to a party. The thought excited you, but from the minute you arrived to the moment you left, the two of you barely spoke. It was hours before you even saw him and even then, it was just a quick, “Hey, you came!” before Jungkook was pulled in the opposite direction to play beer pong.
You were alone the rest of the night, which is how you met Taehyung. Taehyung was older than you, uninterested in freshman games (drinking, or otherwise), and the two of you talked for hours until he walked you home and gave you a soft kiss goodnight at your dorm.
Taehyung was your boyfriend for most of freshman and sophomore year, until a mutual breakup occurred which maybe you should have seen coming. Taehyung was more of a free spirit, he did not like to be tied down and you liked knowing where things were headed. You liked making choices around your significant other and knowing they were taking you into consideration as well. It was not a bad breakup, not in the nastiest sense of the word – no one cheated, or anything, but the removal of Taehyung from your life was crushing. It left you half-empty for the better part of the summer.
Strangely enough, Jungkook became the one that you turned to. He was always there as a friend before that, but a friend with strict boundaries. Taehyung did not like him, for reasons he never revealed and Jungkook liked to joke that the only reason you two were together was because to him – you went to that party for Jungkook after all, which led to the two of you coupling. He stopped making those jokes once the two of you broke up.
Jungkook was the first person you called the night that it happened.
Taehyung left your apartment around dinnertime. He took with him his keys, his memories and once you heard the door slam, you collapsed onto the couch. The tears which followed were brutal, overflowing until you shakily lifted a hand to dial Jungkook's number.
“Y/N?”
He answered on the second ring, other voices loud in the background and dimly, you recalled it was Friday night – Jungkook was probably out and you were interrupting his fun. “Oh, sorry,” you mumbled, voice thick with your tears. “You’re out – don’t let me bother you. G’ni –”
“Y/N,” Jungkook interrupted, his voie sounding strained. “What’s going on? You sound weird.”
“I – well, Taehyung and I broke up.”
The line was silent for so long, you thought maybe he had not heard and your stomach sunk at the thought of having to repeat the sentence. Then, Jungkook swore, muttering something you did not quite catch under his breath.
“I’m coming over,” he announced, hanging up the phone.
Despite wanting to protest – he was clearly at a party; this was in no way his problem – the reason you called became clear the moment Jungkook walked through your door. You remember looking up from the couch, tears still staining your cheeks but some of the pain simply faded from him being there. It was strange. You did not know when Jungkook stopped being that guy from your high school, the dick from your econ class and instead became someone tangible. Someone necessary, a life firmly interwoven with yours.
He arrived later than you thought he would, but the reason soon became apparent when Jungkook held up Five Guys and tequila. “Had to make a pit stop,” he explained, shrugging out of his jacket.
You remember thinking he looked out of place, standing in your hall awkwardly clutching both tequila and burgers – you moved to help him, to tell Jungkook you were fine but instead of doing either, you burst into tears.
“Shit,” Jungkook muttered, dropping the packages and collapsing onto your couch. “Hey,” he exhaled, pulling you towards him. “It’s okay, Y/N. Just cry it out. I’m here.”
He stayed over that night and when you eventually stopped crying, the tequila was opened – you do not remember much after that, until the next morning.
You woke up precariously; that is the best way to describe it. One eye cracked open, then the other – both widening, when you saw your face inches away from the floor. Jungkook grumbled, turning into the cushions and he pulled the blanket with. You yelped when he moved, tumbling onto the ground.
It did not hurt, so much as it knocked the wind from your lungs – but you lay there like that, staring at his right hand dangling over the edge of the sofa. It was a struggle to piece together the events of the night, bits and pieces floating around in the alcohol. You remembered Jungkook laughing, pouring you shot after shot. One, for how Alienating Taehyung could be; another, for how Bizarre his choices in movies were; a third, for his Cantankerous responses to text messages in the morning.
Each letter of the alphabet got a reason, each letter received a sip of tequila and by the time you reached Q, you were both dissolved into giggles. “This is from Gilmore Girls,” you gasped, remembering where you had seen this before. “Lorelai and Christopher play this game after his dad dies, and – oh my god!” you shrieked, grabbing Jungkook’s cheeks and smushing them with your palms. “Are you a Gilmore Girls fan?”
“No!” Jungkook protested. He huffed when you booped his nose. “My mom just watched that show a lot when I was little... she... ah... FINE! IT’S A FUCKING AMAZING SHOW, AND SHE SHOULD’VE LEFT LOGAN FOR JESS!”
Things started to fade after that, but you vividly remembered the moment before you went to sleep. Jungkook was slumped in your cushions and you climbed up beside him, wrapping both arms eagerly around the breadth of his chest. He did not protest, body curling around yours to reach a hand for the blanket. Lying together was not a question, it was a statement: Jungkook would be there for you, without you having to ask.
Waking on your rug the following morning, you stared at the ceiling and realized this was not a good thing. Jungkook was not just a friend, he was your best friend and not only that, you were fresh from a breakup. You were still hurt, trying to heal and the last thing you needed was an added complication.
Jungkook was complicated. By some miracle, the sound of you falling had not woken him and, making sure to keep it that way, you slowly stood from the ground. Easing yourself away, you disappeared into your bedroom and collapsed on your bed. When you woke several hours later, Jungkook was gone. No note, no text – he just disappeared.
The two of you never spoke about that night, never discussed it and to this day, no conversation has occurred regarding the events of your breakup.
“Y/N,” Jungkook mumbles, nose buried in your neck. He is drunk and although this is annoying, you understand why – their hockey team lost earlier tonight, as evidenced by Jungkook, Hoseok and Seokjin getting tequila-wasted at the bar. The game was not life or death and they can still make the playoffs, but it was a game against a rival, which makes it hurt more than the rest.
There is a lot of pressure riding on Jungkook to perform and before you knew him, you might have dismissed this as him being an athlete, just another jock too caught up in the game. Now, though, you know him and know better. You know Jungkook’s dad is a deadbeat, his mom barely speaks English and it made his life difficult most of his childhood. Jungkook attends University on a scholarship because it is all he can afford and if Jungkook is anything less than perfect, his future is screwed.
Every loss is hard, because Jungkook equates loss with failure – it is your job as his friend to make him see the opportunity. You will try and do that tomorrow, when Jungkook is coherent enough to respond but for now you just grunt, lugging him in through your door.
“Y/N,” he mumbles, nudging your hair with his nose.
“Yes?” you say, patiently pulling him forward. The noise of your apartment muffles the outside when you kick shut the door – the sounds of a pregame down the hall disappear, replaced only by the soft whoosh of your humidifier.
It takes a moment to lock the door and when you do, Jungkook wanders off down the hall. He stops in your living room, a slight frown to his face, as though wondering how he got here. His mouth opens, then shuts, looking back at your hallway.
“Can I take my shoes off?” Jungkook asks, while you fight back a smile.
“Yeah,” you nod, crossing to him. “Take off your shoes and your jacket, okay? Do you want something to eat?” you call, heading into the kitchen.
Two thumps come from behind, as Jungkook does what you requested. When you open the fridge, he follows, padding along like a dog. “Yes, please,” Jungkook exhales, dropping onto a stool. “Do you have mac and cheese, Y/N?”
Classic pre-hangover food. “Lucky for you,” you nod, rummaging around, “I made too much last night. I’ll heat up leftovers if you promise,” you warn, pulling out a jug, “to drink a whole glass of water before going to sleep.”
Jungkook nods solemnly. “Promise.”
“Okay,” you grin, removing Tupperware and popping this into the microwave.
It takes a while to heat and while you wait, Jungkook hums an incoherent song – something which sounds vaguely like Monster Mash and Hotel California, mushed together. You largely ignore this, because singing is a large part of Drunkkook. Drunkkook has many phases, one of which is the giddy slap-happiness Jungkook seems to be stuck in right now.
The macaroni revives Jungkook – he eats enthusiastically, refusing to talk until the entire bowl is finished and only then, does he let out a sigh. “Thanks,” Jungkook burps, pushing hair from his face.
“Gross,” you say, wrinkling your nose as you hop down from your stool. “This is why you can’t get a girl, Jeon.”
“Can so,” he complains, watching you walk to the sink.
“Oh, really? Then why aren’t you with one right now,” you ask, looking over your shoulder. “Why’d you call me, instead of one of them?”
Jungkook stares at you for a moment, then shrugs. “You’re easier?”
“Flattering.” You roll your eyes. Turning the water on, you run a dish under the faucet. “Why don’t you head to my bed, okay? You can sleep there tonight.”
Jungkook nods, pushing himself up from the chair – his gaze remains slightly unfocused, wandering down the hall and in the corner of your eyes, you see his t-shirt fly over the sofa. “Jungkook!” you shriek, dropping the dish in the sink to dart down the hall.
Just another stage of Drunkkook – tequila shots equals stripping. There is no power on God’s green earth which can stop him. The moment the limes come out, Jungkook disappears and in his place stands an exotic dancer named Candy. He is already working the belt, leather mostly undone by the time you rush into your room.
“Whoa, whoa!” you blurt, grabbing his hands with your own. “Let’s just go to sleep, okay? Keep all your clothes on.”
“But it’s hot,” Jungkook complains, blowing hair from his eyes. It is unfair that, even sweaty and drunk, Jungkook still looks amazing – he stares back in your bedroom, gaze dark with frustration and it is hard not to imagine the situation as different.
This thought makes you shiver, a hopeless emotion you disentangle yourself from quickly. “Fine,” you agree. “Leave your boxers on, okay?”
Jungkook nods happily, pushing his jeans to the floor. When they are gone, he flops down on your mattress, rolling upwards to face you. “Y/N.” Jungkook lifts his hand in the air; an exact replica of the Creation of Adam. “Aren’t you coming?”
Hesitating, you glance over your shoulder. It would be best to sleep on the couch because Jungkook is big, your bed is small and if you slept pressed against him, you might not survive. That would make two separate occasions of being held in his arms and you do not think you could survive being torn from another.
“I,” you hesitate, shaking your head. “No, Kookie. I’m going to sleep on the couch, okay?”
Jungkook’s lower lip protrudes. “But we’re best friends. Best friends share beds.”
Stifling a laugh, you cross your arms over your chest. “No, they don’t.”
“Do too.”
“Do not.”
“Yeah-huh.”
“Nu-uh.”
“Y/N,” Jungkook exhales, falling suddenly quiet. “Please?”
He says this so simply, something inside of you caves and unable to think of a response, you walk over. Jungkook watches you carefully, hair mussed from his hands before he rolled onto his back. He watches you gently, eyes no longer as glazed as before. You take a deep breath, unbuttoning the top of your jeans.
“Don’t look,” you mumble – it is too late to hold any sort of conviction but Jungkook nods despite this, following instruction.
He drapes one arm over his face, revealing the flat strip of his stomach while you try not to stare. The sight inspires dubious thoughts in you, like licking various parts of your best friend’s body and you cannot allow such images to continue. Shaking your head, you step free of your jeans and walk to your dresser. You are careful to pick the least sexy pair of pajamas you own – tattered, raggedy bottoms with a plain white camisole and, pulling your blouse overhead, you hear a quiet intake of breath.
Craning your head, you spot Jungkook staring – he does not even try to hide his guilt, gaze locked on your hips. "Jungkook!" you scold, making him jump.
"Sorry!" he blurts, ducking his head.
After another peek to make sure he really is not looking, you unhook your bra and toss this fall to the floor. Tugging the camisole down, you grab your pants to hop, nearly falling as you yank them up to your waist. Facing your bed, you find Jungkook’s eyes firmly shut.
"Can I look now?" he mumbles, voice low.
When you nod, you realize he cannot see. "Yeah," you inform, pulling back your covers to sink down beside him. "You can look."
His eyes open. It is odd, you think, roaming his face. You are not the only one being careful, not the only one being safe – Jungkook seems cautious as well, holding himself to the edge of your bed. His body is tense, back nearly pressed to the wall. When you lower yourself onto the pillow, he stares for a moment.
"Y/N," he whispers.
"Sh," you respond, scooting closer. "Go to sleep, Jungkook."
He nods, lowering his head to the sheets beside yours. He is too big for this, you realize. Your mattress sinks to the center and after several long moments of fighting gravity, you decide to give in. It is like sinking into quicksand; your body slides forward to mold against his.
To his credit, Jungkook does not respond – the only noticeable reaction is an exhale, a tiny sound you know will haunt future dreams. He shifts and it is obvious to you both what he conceals but neither one of you mentions it, neither one of you says it out loud. You are not sure how long this moment lasts, a stand-off of wills but eventually it dissipates and your eyes slowly close. It is during the strange, drifting moment between sleep and awake you feel Jungkook's arm slip over your waist.
“Y/N?” he whispers, near the side of your face.
“Shut up,” you mumble, pressing closer.
He chuckles, breath warm at your ear. “Are you awake?”
“I guess so,” you mutter, “thanks to my dumb drunk best friend.”
“Not so drunk, anymore.”
Finally, you open your eyes.
He stares back at you, the room quiet but for the buzzing of the air conditioner in the corner. A car horn honks, dim in the distance and you hope it covers the sound of your beating heart because Jungkook can probably feel it, lying here next to you.
“Tequila move through you that fast, huh, Jeon?” you say.
“The mac and cheese helped,” he admits, toes brushing your shin. You forgot this fact about him; Jungkook sleeps like a child, curled into himself like a ball. It was something you found endearing that night on the couch – before he kicked you off it, of course. “I can’t fall asleep.”
“Oh,” you say, blinking back at him.
He smiles, the sleepy kind which crinkles his eyes. “Hey.” Jungkook changes the subject. “How are you doing?”
“What do you mean?” you say, expression shuttering. “I’m tired, I guess.”
“That’s not what I meant,” Jungkook whispers.
When he says this, you sigh because you know what he means – but you do not want to talk about Taehyung. “I’m fine,” you mumble, as he shifts closer.
“When I broke up with my ex,” Jungkook starts, and you make a noise of surprise.
Jungkook never talks about his ex – a girl from your high school, someone you knew only vaguely. Her face is familiar but if you placed her in a lineup, it would impossible to single her out. Jungkook was wild about the girl; you would see them in the halls between classes, hanging over each other while they sucked face at the lockers. You remember hearing something awful happened between them, something which broke them up senior year, but in the entire three years you have known Jungkook, he has never once mentioned her name.
“When I broke up with my ex,” Jungkook repeats, quieter. “It was because she cheated on me.”
“Oh, fuck.”
“Yeah,” Jungkook nods. “We did that, a lot. Problem was she fucked my best friend, too and I didn’t like that.”
“Jimin?” you gasp, surprised.
“No.” Jungkook rolls his eyes, his arm still draped over your waist. “My best friend from high school – Sungmin.”
“Oh,” you allow, relaxing into his grip. Jimin is on the hockey team with Jungkook; he is the star right winger and an absolute sweetheart. “I didn’t think he’d do that.”
Jungkook arches a brow at your mistake. “Anyways,” he continues. “She cheated on me, I found out over text and it was awful,” he says, looking down at the sheets. “All that to say I get it – sometimes you love someone and it doesn’t work out. It works out in the end, though,” Jungkook mumbles, voice heavy. “Things will always get better.”
“Will they?” you mutter, though you do not really mean that.
Jungkook’s hand closes around yours and you stare at the motion, unsure if you should push him away. It feels nice though, him touching you like that – fuck nice, it feels heavenly. Jungkook’s fingers brush over yours in a gentle, soothing motion.
“They do,” he nods. “Just think about the sucky things Taehyung did before you broke up. Was he distant? Annoying? Did he hog the bed, or something?”
“No, that was you,” you grin, shoving his shoulder. Jungkook laughs and you quickly sober, considering his words. “Well,” you start, only to hesitate. “No, never mind.”
Face burning, you bury your head in the sheets while Jungkook scoots closer, poking your shoulder. “Come on,” he complains. “Out with it – what’d Taehyung do?”
Fuck. Now that you brought it up, Jungkook will not let it go – tenacious, is a nice word for him. Stubborn as hell, is another way to describe him. Groaning aloud, you flop onto your back. “It’s more what he didn’t do,” you mumble, covering your face with both hands.
A hush fills the room, filled with everything you will not say.
“He.” Jungkook coughs awkwardly, clearing his throat. “What… didn’t he do?”
Taking a deep breath, you feel slightly dizzy – which is ridiculous, considering you did not even drink tonight. Lying beside Jungkook, talking about things you should not – it makes you feel dizzy, nauseous and the words come up despite yourself.
“Hewouldn’teatmeout,” you mutter, all in a rush.
Jungkook nearly chokes, sputtering before rolling himself closer. “That’s ridiculous,” he whines, returning his arm to your waist. “What a fucking pig. Can’t wait to spread that fact on campus – shit, Y/N. Doubt any girl will want to date him after this. Fuck him – and fuck Khaled, too! Go down on your wife!”
“No, no, no,” you groan, lowering your hands to look at him. Jungkook stares back, his face much too close. “It’s not like that.”
Jungkook seems surprised. “No? Then what’s it like?”
“He didn’t… he didn’t expect me to go down on him,” you explain, toying with a thread of your comforter. “Taehyung wasn’t unreasonable. He just didn’t like going down on others, it was this whole thing with him but,” you inhale, taking a big gulp of air. “It would be nice, I guess. To have a boyfriend who didn’t mind… that.”
Jungkook falls silent for a long moment. “Why just a boyfriend?” he declares boldly.
Your words dry in your throat as Jungkook stares back, oddly determined. Suddenly, you are very aware of the weight of his hand on your stomach. His fingers splay over the skin, tracing circles against your hip.
“I,” you hesitate, unsure how to respond – Jungkook cannot possibly be offering what you think he is. “I don’t know,” you frown. “I typically only sleep with my boyfriends. It’s a monogamy thing, something you wouldn’t understand, Jungkook.”
Jungkook rolls his eyes. “What does it matter?” he murmurs, fingers tracing in a way that sets every nerve ending on fire. “I’m tipsy and I want to go down on you, Y/N. Take advantage of that – take advantage of me.”
Now, your mouth nearly drops because there it is – your best friend, offering to eat you out, completely unaware of how badly you want it. “You – what?” you squeak.
Jungkook freezes. You two have been friends for so long, you recognize the drunk stages of Jeon Jungkook better than anyone – especially tequila kook, which is another thing in its entirety. Symptoms include false bravado, overconfidence followed by whininess, neediness and much cuddling. The symptoms start out one way, work their way upwards and then fade back. From the way Jungkook is staring at you now, you imagine the last of his bravado has just disappeared.
“Shit,” Jungkook whispers, eyes wide.
Then – so slowly, it could be a dream, you grasp his hand in yours to move lower on your body. Jungkook sucks in a breath, realizing what you want and before you can take it back, before you can question your sanity, he moves on his own. His hand slides lower, beneath the waistband of your sweats to brush over your underwear.
Both of you still, looking at one another – and then Jungkook continues, nudging the waistband of your panties aside. Jungkook stays there for a moment, finger slipping beneath the elastic to trace over your skin; he lets you get used to the feeling, relax into the motion and when you push your hips up, he tugs your panties aside. The sound reveals how wet you are, how wet you are for him and Jungkook inhales at the noise. His finger moves lower, making a perfect circle around your already swollen clit – you groan out loud, when he does it again.
“Shit,” he whispers, rolling closer. Jungkook’s hair falls forward to stare intently at the crux of your thighs. Both sweats and sheets are pushed to your knees but you remain covered by panties until Jungkook shoves these aside to spread your folds. He stares at your body, drinking you in and you know this should be uncomfortable but somehow find it is not. Jungkook’s fingers slide to either side of your clit, forcing your back to arch upwards on the bed.
“Fuck,” Jungkook murmurs, gaze drifting to yours. “You’re so responsive, baby. Do you like having your clit rubbed that much?”
Hearing him call you baby feels both foreign and right, as though it is the next logical thing in your pantheon of names. “Yes,” you exhale, wriggling your ass on the bed. “I like when you touch me, Jungkook.”
As though you have flipped a switch, Jungkook’s eyes darken. “Really,” he mutters, sliding a finger slowly into your cunt. “You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to hear you say that, Y/N.”
Before you can ask what he means, Jungkook curls said finger upwards to press his thumb to your clit. Moaning his name, you fall back on the bed. “Jungkook,” you exhale, voice breathy beyond recognition.
“Mm?” he murmurs, lifting himself onto his knees. “Just relax,” he instructs, pushing your camisole higher. “I want to make you feel good.”
Nodding, you keep your eyes closed when he shifts – Jungkook’s hands find your waist, pulling your underwear down to toss onto the floor. He positions himself in between your legs, one on either side while he rubs circles on your thighs and Jungkook lowers his lips to trail kisses towards your sex.
“You have such a pretty pussy, Y/N,” he exhales, forcing your eyes to snap open.
“What?” you blurt, pushing yourself up on your elbows.
“I mean it,” Jungkook nods, still fixated on the sight. “Here,” he murmurs, bringing his fingers to your clit – he moves slowly back, keeping your legs spread so that you feel every touch. “And here,” Jungkook adds, finger tracing gently over your opening. “God, I’m hard just thinking about fucking you. But here,” he breathes, dropping a kiss to your most sensitive place. “There should be a whole fucking Netflix documentary about your clit – hell, I’d watch it.”
Never has someone revered you like this, never has anyone taken this much time to look at you, let alone tease and when Jungkook’s lips close over your sex, a whimper falls from your lips. He takes his time with your body, mouth opening slow so his tongue can nudge, lick and twist. He adds his lips to the motion, tugging the swollen bud into his mouth; intermixing this with gentle flicks of his tongue. The sounds you make are not human, entirely unrecognizable as you stretch your arms overhead, grabbing hold of the bed.
Jungkook continues mercilessly, demanding every inch of your pleasure while wrapping both arms over your waist. You groan, staring down at his head between your thighs, unable to tear your eyes away from the mess that he’s making. Every now and then, Jungkook pauses to look up – your arousal is clear, his lips shining and red; though you want nothing more than to taste him, he continues to refuse.
“Not until you come,” Jungkook purrs, reburying himself in between your thighs.
“Ah,” you arch, when Jungkook switches the motion. He drags his tongue up your clit, rubbing over you gently before pushing apart with his tongue – every swirl is sinful, purposeful and fuck, if anyone has ever eaten you out like this. The noises he makes are sloppy, obscene and Jungkook pauses only briefly before flicking over you again.
“Oh, shit,” you moan, fisting both hands in your hair.
Not his hair – although you want to – because Jungkook seems determined and you do not want to interfere with whatever he is doing. Your body has lost whatever sensitivity you had at the start; now you just want him closer, rougher, while he toys with your clit. You know you are close when you start to lose control; legs jerking up to frame his head, curse words multiplying on your lips but Jungkook just chuckles, pushing your knees apart to pin you down to the mattress.
He moves quickly, mouth open and you nearly scream, your body is so tight from the motion. “Fuck, fuck, fuckfuckfuck,” you gasp, squeezing your eyes shut. “Jungkook, I think I’m gonna come.”
As though you’ve said the magic words, Jungkook slows. He keeps you pressed to the mattress, holding you immobile but instead of the fast release he was giving, Jungkook slows to a crawl.
“Jungkook,” you bemoan, nearly breaking with frustration. Your entire body quivers, pussy soaked from his teasing and here this fucker is, slowly massaging your clit. It feels good – shit, does it feel good – but that’s hardly the point. “Make me come,” you whine, pushing your hips up to his face. “Please, baby, make me come.”
Jungkook groans, vibration soft on your sex – he nods, nose brushing over your slit. “Fine,” he exhales, resuming his previous motion. “Come for me, baby.”
“Oh,” you gasp, as he resumes rapid circles. “Fuck, your mouth.”
He does not respond, tongue too busy and then Jungkook reaches to insert a finger – game over. It has been so long since anyone has been inside you like that, since anyone has touched you and Jungkook’s finger, curved against your g-spot sends you over the edge. His arms hold your body below him, tongue still moving and it is hard to understand what you say, coming apart in his arms.
There is a moment at the top, when you think you might break – it seems too much, too intense for any one person but Jungkook continues to hold on and you decide to let go. He is there when you return, breathing heavily while opening your eyes. Jungkook looks up at you, framed between your thighs – he removes his finger slowly, dragging up past your sex.
Shiver crossing your spine, you stare back – then shift abruptly, pushing him back on your bed.
“Hey!” Jungkook exclaims, confused – he does not seem to know what to do with his hands, grasping the sheets awkwardly. “What are you – oh.”
He inhales when you shove his boxers down, closing your lips over his cock. Jungkook is already hard, pre-cum leaking from his tip and you know it will not be long before he comes in your mouth. Especially not with the way you are sucking him off, twisting your mouth to his base and back up, using your hands to help and getting them wet.
Jungkook groans, hissing while leaning back on his hands. He stares at your head between his thighs, bobbing up and down on his cock – you release his length with a pop, taking a deep breath to pull your hair back in a ponytail.
“Hold this,” you demand, before re-gripping his thighs.
Jungkook responds on reflex, wrapping your hair in his fist while you resume deep-throating. “Oh, shit,” he groans, trying and failing to catch his breath – but you are moving too fast, tongue dragging up him in time. The veins in his cock stand out, throbbing and you tease him mercilessly in response to what he did to you. Closing your fist around Jungkook, you start to pump up and down while sucking his tip like a lollipop – you look up to make eye contact, dragging your tongue over his slit.
“Shit, shit,” Jungkook exhales, hands finding their way to your hair. His hips rise involuntarily, moving you deeper. “Fuck, your mouth is amazing.”
Rather than answer, you moan, letting him feel the vibration while you suck him again. Jungkook whimpers, grabbing your hair to thrust hard in your mouth. You let him, eyes watering when he starts to take over. His cock hits deeper and when Jungkook is panting, grip tight in your hair, you tap on his waist to let him know he can cum.
As though waiting for your cue, his entire body slackens – jaw tight, eyes screwed shut, Jungkook lets himself go. Cum spurts into your mouth, cock still held deep and you wait until he is finished to pull off with a gasp. Jungkook groans out loud, having difficulty catching his breath – your own high is still there, lessening somewhat as the seconds tick by. Before you can do anything about this, Jungkook moves forward to push you back to the bed.
He buries his face in your hair, arms caged around your waist. “Fuck, that was amazing,” Jungkook exhales, half-buried in pillows.
You agree but you do not know how amazing, and therein lies the problem – your earth was just moved, entirely shattered and here Jungkook is, acting like you just ran a marathon. “Hey,” you exhale, suddenly hesitant. “This… it won’t be weird between us now, will it?”
For a second, Jungkook tenses and then his back muscles stretch, pushing himself up on your bed. “I,” he starts, then stops. “No,” he says, somewhat deflated. “It doesn’t have to be weird, not if we don’t let it.”
“Good,” you respond. Another moment passes before you sink down beside him; Jungkook’s hand slides over your waist, pulling you closer, but not like before.
You swallow, allowing your eyelids to flutter and wonder if feelings are somehow transferable. If the osmosis of touching can impart from your skin to his, leaving Jungkook wanting you the way you want him. Because that is what you want – him. That is all you have wanted for some time now, although you would not admit it yourself.
Jungkook stirs, gently pulling you closer. Your chests rise and fall, hearts beating in tandem.
"Why did you leave?" Jungkook whispers, so soft you think you must have misheard.
"I – what?" you respond, stilling against him.
"The night you and Taehyung broke up," Jungkook says, face half-buried in your hair. "We fell asleep on the couch and you left before I woke up."
"I didn't...” Pausing, you find yourself unsure what to say because this is entirely unexpected. “I didn’t know you realized."
"I did," Jungkook says.
"I didn't," you exhale, pulling back to look at him, "know that you cared."
Jungkook's eyes are unreadable. "I did." His arm is still draped over your body, torso pressed into your own. “I do.”
"Then why –”
"I messed up," Jungkook confesses, all in a rush. "I should have told you from the moment we met that I liked you. I should have asked you out then and there but I was too much of a coward and now, here we are."
Your brow furrows, unsure what he means. "What do you mean, ‘here are we?’"
“We’re friends,” Jungkook says, as though this fact should be obvious. "Friends," he continues, pushing the word past his teeth. "We’re friends, the best of friends and that's amazing – it’s wonderful because honestly, Y/N, you mean the world to me."
Some of the tension between you lessens; Jungkook's hands are warm on your waist, scooting closer on the bed. "Thank you?" you respond, unsure how to decipher his words. Everything Jungkook says feels like a blur, as though it is happening to someone else and you are just looking in. "You mean the world to me, too, Jungkook."
"Not in the way you do to me," Jungkook admits, then pauses. "Do you remember the first time we met?"
You frown, because it was probably sometime in high school, but Jungkook of course would not remember that. “I – uh –"
"It was in elementary school."
This shuts you up, completely floored. "What?" you frown. "We... we didn't go to the same elementary school, Jungkook."
Jungkook exhales, reaching up to massage the back of his neck. "We did," he confesses. "At least, we did for a year or so – I moved around a lot, you know my dad. I doubt you’d remember, but I remember you," he confesses.
When you say nothing, Jungkook takes this as a sign to continue. "So, my mom got me this t-shirt," he mumbles, glancing over your shoulder at the door. "Power Rangers were my favorite back then – all I wanted was to be the red one and for my birthday, my mom got me a t-shirt which read, 'It's Morphin' time!'"
Biting down on your lip, you stifle a grin. "Mhm," you agree, trying not to laugh. "That's sweet, Jungkook but I really don't –"
"My mom doesn’t know English very well. You know that," Jungkook says.
“Yeah,” you nod, softening. " I know."
"So," Jungkook exhales, tracing circles over your hip. “My mom accidentally bought this discount shirt with a typo – instead of 'It's Morphin' time,' it read, 'It's Morphine time.'"
Though you try not to laugh, your lower lip twitches. "Oh."
Jungkook stares back at you, lips pressed firmly together. "It's not funny."
"No. It's not."
"It's not," Jungkook insists, even as his eyes dance with laughter.
"I've never felt more serious in my life," you insist – before breaking away, covering your face with both hands. “Oh my god.”
Jungkook cracks up when you lose it. "Ah," he groans, leaning his forehead to yours. "She meant well, really – it was so sweet, but the day I wore it to school the kids had a field day."
When he says this, you stop laughing because the thought of Jungkook hurting is not funny at all. “This was… when we were in elementary school?” you ask, beginning to put two and two together.
"Yeah," Jungkook exhales, staring. "This is the part where you came in."
"Me?" you repeat, still struggling to understand. Elementary school was a long time ago, but – “Oh my god," you blurt, eyes widening. "That was you."
Jungkook nods slowly, scanning your face. "Yeah. That was me."
"It was you!" you gasp, nearly kneeing him in the dick when you press yourself closer. "Those stupid boys on the playground! They were picking on you and I just got so mad at them, I marched up and –”
"You called them all amoebas," Jungkook deadpans, upper lip twitching.
Clasping both hands over your mouth, you stifle a snort. "Oh my god," you mumble between fingers.
"You walked up to them,” Jungkook details. “Double ponytails swinging and scowling so darkly, I thought you’d come to join in. I thought I'd offended you with my horrible t-shirt – and then you turned around and pointed at the ringleader."
"Derek." You scowl. "What a prick."
"Yeah," Jungkook says, hands grazing the sides of your body. "He was a prick, but you walked right up to him and called them all amoebas. I doubt they understood what the word meant but you said it so scathingly, I think they assumed it was a curse."
"They ran away," you recall, smug. "Little punks."
Jungkook snorts, gaze softening the longer he looks at you. "Yeah," he says softly. "That was the first time I realized I loved you."
He says the words so suddenly, you cannot think of a response. It is like that moment earlier, when he called you baby and you could not understand why he had not been doing it longer. Jungkook’s words sink into your skin, leaving you breathless – and this is when you realize you love him, as well.
"Y/N," Jungkook whispers, gaze searching. "Please respond to that. It’s… kind of something I’d like feedback on."
"I," you inhale, the noise almost a hiccup. "Do you want to know why I left you that night?" you ask, returning to the first question he asked.
Jungkook nods, hands sliding to the small of your back.
“It was because I realized something," you say, letting Jungkook pull you forward. "When Taehyung and I were together you were a constant source of tension, because I kept comparing him to you."
"To me?" Jungkook’s brow crinkles.
You nod, since the memory is shameful to you. The facts are not pretty, are not nice – they paint you as the bad guy because while Taehyung had his faults, in the back of your mind you were falling for someone else. You were falling in love with your best friend.
"Yeah," you whisper, hands sliding around his neck. Jungkook’s hair is so soft, in contrast to the rest of him. "Whenever we’d argue, I’d think about what you’d do instead. Whenever I was happy, you would pop into my head. I didn’t know what to do," you whisper. "It was almost a relief when Taehyung and I broke up."
Jungkook just stares, face mere inches away. "You’re ashamed of it.”
Trust your best friend to understand how you feel. “Yeah,” you mumble, looking down until Jungkook’s fingers slide beneath your chin, lifting you up.
“Hey,” he murmurs, brushing his lips to your forehead. “Life isn’t perfect. People fuck up. That wasn’t the only reason the two of you broke up, was it?”
“No.”
“Then stop beating yourself up.” Jungkook exhales, wrapping himself around you. “Stop hurting yourself because of what’s past.”
He is right, you know that he is and your arms tighten, pressing your face to his chest. “I love you, too, Jungkook – you know that, right?”
“I know.”
“Not just in the best friends kind of way.”
“I know that, too.”
“Good. As long as you know.”
“I do,” he whispers, kissing the tip of your nose.
