Everyone talks about humanoid KITT and android KITT (which I love btw please don't stop talking about them) but I haven't seen anyone take on a FULL reversal au, where KITT is the human operative and Michael is the car so here goes my au idea! (Feel free to use this idea I'm sticking with my current fanfic plan and probably won't write it but maybe)
It's an odd au to start and I'm going to be rambling for awhile, but if I don't post this it'll be lost to time. "Micheal" (probably being called by numbers and letter codes as opposed to a name) would have been some high tech 80s cop car that was specially commissioned with advanced technology, but no voice, bonded shell, or any of the major stuff. Shit happened on the Comtron case and his partner was shot (probably still his original partner from the pilot) and is killed. Because of such a high tech car AND the way Wilton is the Foundation acquired the car and gave him modifications, a new body (I think a Pontiac Phoenix suits him best ironically due to rising again, and one of my friends said the car gave off Michael energy) and a voice, bringing him up to standard how KITT was in the pilot. HOWEVER, this car already had a semblance of personality due to being high tech and spending years as a cop car, immediately making his experience in the field valuable but difficult to work with.
Kitt (keeping his name the same) is probably taken on as an operative by Wilton's recommendation from a basic training foundation position for his intelligence and resilience to go after the Comtron group from the pilot (I think Kitt would've been ex-secret service or something of the sort and needed a new fresh start under the Foundation's protection) and by Kitt's stubborn nature, he agrees to work with the "difficult" car as Wilton plans to deactivate it. (I have ideas for specific episode interactions cause everything else around would be the same, but I'll probably add onto this post later about them).
The two obviously do not get along at first, Kitt being more practical with "Michael" being more reckless (instead of leaving the car door open on accident in the pilot, Michael as the car entices the thieves in to go turn them in for being thieves when Kitt isn't looking) but naturally, since at their core, they're still them, they pull through and begin to like eachother (Kitt would still end up in jail from the bar-fight, and Michael would come bust him out). Michael wants a better name than numbers, and after an episode style of trying different names Kitt lands on Michael, which Michael likes.
I will post more on this eventually, but for right now this is all I've got
Pontiac Phoenix for reference
