Zootopia Headcanon

*spoilers for Zootopia & Zootopia 2*

Before the events of “Zootopia”, Chief Bogo was good friends with Lionheart and Bellwether for years. Even though the buffalo didn’t always agree with their politics, they were still cordial with each other to socialize outside of work.

This made the reveal of their misdeeds hit Bogo that much harder.

That night when he arrested Lionheart filled Bogo with immense shame.

While Leodore had nothing to do with the Night Howler incident, his mistreatment of Dawn played a factor in her path to villainy.

Plus, Leodore did illegally imprisoning predators that have gone wild, Although, he did it for (mostly) noble intentions.

Then, when Bogo and his officers arrived on the scene at the Natural History Museum, he felt that same soul-crushing disappointment all over again.

Having to arrest two friends within the same year, along with the guilt of not realizing what they were doing earlier caused Bogo to question his judgement as the ZPD chief.

He’s barely talked to either of them since Bellwether’s trial.

Even after all the horrible things they’ve done, Bogo still thinks back fondly on his friendship with Dawn and Leodore.

Do you have any hcs on a potential friendship between Timon, Pumbaa & Ushari?

me and nikki actually talked about this a lil in the notes of her post, but i'd love to share more of my thoughts!

ushari became friends with timon and pumbaa simply because those two are so much less judgemental than any of the other pridelanders. i mean, they raised a lion and a honeybadger which are both vicious species. i'd like to think they don't immediately assume that every dangerous species is a danger to them because of raising their sons nephews. meeting dangerous animals is old news to them atp

as for how they first met, ushari was just slithering around irritably after having an encounter with bunga. he didn't look where he was going and bumped into pumbaa, literally. ushari expected the warthog to be afraid or hateful in response to seeing a snake, but pumbaa was just like “Are you alright?” in a genuinely caring tone. it catches him so off guard. then comes along timon, saying something like “Hey pal, you better watch where you're going next time. My buddy is eatin’ here!”. there's some back and forth between T&P meanwhile ushari is practically shellshocked that these two are treating him with decent respect. in the middle of their conversation, he busts in saying “Are you two from the Pridelands?” in which they respond that they didn't used to be, but they moved here because of their kids nephews. that makes more sense to ushari, but they keep talking and ushari listens. at some point he finds out that those two really are the dads uncles of simba and bunga, which throws ushari off a bit, but since they're completely chill with him, he can separate them from their relations

timon and pumbaa never find out about bunga's behaviour towards ushari (or at least not until after his death) as the snake thought it would be too awkward of a conversation. he doesn't want to cause a rift between him and the only pridelanders who aren't reptiles who genuinely seem to be nice to him

i like to hc that ushari attended kupatana because timon and pumbaa told him that he should come!; real talk though, i can't see another reason for him being there. yes, he's a pridelander, but why would you come to an event where the kids who constantly trample you are at? idk

ushari wasn't amused when the jackals showed up and that it was the guard's fault. size-wise, he's one of the weakest animals there, so they put him in danger. maybe he'd leave during the attack and wouldn't come back for the happy ending

timon and pumbaa aren't his normal crowd so he doesn't hang out with them all the time, but they're there for each other y'know? ushari definitely makes time for them

i am just now thinking about how goofy it would be if timon and pumbaa ran into bunga and ushari at the same time. imagine T&P ‘introducing’ bunga and ushari to each other. awkwarddddd 😭 but maybe they would point out some similarities between them and it would help ease their hatred for each other slightly

as nikki talked about, ushari's death would hit pumbaa quite hard as the snake was one of his very few friends. he was heartbroken enough when ushari created scar's army. timon, although better at hiding it and perhaps not as close to ushari as pumbaa was, feels the same way. they don't have that many friends, and ushari was a good one :(

What first went through your head when you first met May and June?

When Donald told first told me about taking two stowaways on our vacation I was skeptical at first. Later I got to meet May and June upon realizing that they were the stowaways.

If you were in charge of rebooting Loonatics Unleashed, how would you write it?

Dude it'd be so gay you don't even know.

Tech and Rev would definitely be a couple by the end of it, that's just step one. Either tech and Rev or Rev and Ace, or a weird love triangle, sorry I'm a simple girl with simple needs.

But actually;

I'd probably give it a slightly softer animation style? Definitely not 3D, but not as pointy as the current animation style. With mild character redesigns just so that they're a little more interesting visually.

As for the story, I would definitely give it an overarching plot with an actual big bad to mix in the with villain of the week feel that it originally had. And most importantly, I would delve way more into their backstories than the original did. They'd each get at least one episode focusing on where they came from.

Duck and Tech's backgrounds would also be a lot more dramatic if I was writing them. Duck's definitely would be played less for laughs.

Also I think I would make Rev's parents villains. I think they have the most potential for it being tech CEO's, and I think it could do some good with Rev's character since he's Definity one that got the least amount of attention.

And I would have to find something to do with Slam's character or I'd just have to remove him in general and maybe turn Lexi more into the muscles character since I found her brain blast was kind of similar to Ace's heat vision most of the time. Also Ace might get new powers too since his are kind of like, really boring for being the leader.

Yeah, there would be a few changes to mostly characters, and then giving it just a more together story. I think it had potential, and I think it's biggest fault was being a product of the early 2000's. I could keep going, but I won't unless someone asks more about it lol.

As a platonic relationship, how would you write/headcanon Drake and Launchpad being best friends?

hey, thanks so much for the ask!! i actually think about drakepad as besties a lot because the idea of them being platonic soulmates rattles around in my noggin like a ball in a bell

i will be perfectly honest, i don’t think much would actually change. like, i tend to view many of their interactions in the show through a romantic lens, but they also read well as close friends. i like how affectionate they are with each other, even in little ways. drake never hesitates to get in LP’s personal space with his dramatic gestures and constant shirt-clutching, and LP, while more conscious of himself, also has no apprehensions about it. it reminds me of friends i’ve had and some interactions with my siblings lawl.

drakepad in a platonic context is just so delicious though like . i’ve always viewed them as friends first, if that makes sense? like, they know and trust each other so wholly. they work together like a well oiled machine. they’re ingrained and immovable parts of each other’s lives. all of this is true regardless of whether or not they also kiss about it. that kind of dynamic makes me so incredibly happy.

i love the concept of launchpad hyping drake up like no tomorrow for a first date or listening in rapt attention as drake gushes about someone he admires. they would wingman each other so hard dawg.

truthfully, i think the way launchpad carries himself in the show is somewhat influenced by his feelings for drake. he not only wants to impress drake and lift him up, but also goes out of his way to supply every little thing he can presently and emotionally. he pours a frankly unhealthy amount of himself into their relationship that drake doesn’t nearly make up for in his own efforts, so their relationship definitely has toxic aspects.

looking at launchpad and drake as platonic, i imagine the dynamic would change a bit. launchpad is still a people pleaser and a love-through-service kind of person, and drake is still an unstable egotistical user, but there’s no romantic tension warping anyone’s behavior significantly.

launchpad still holds drake’s opinion incredibly high, but he isn’t as afraid to say no, for example. drake still takes launchpad for granted and deflects most anything that isn’t direct praise, but he knows LP isn’t stupid.

even with all their flaws, i think they really do make each other better. and yes, launchpad will ALWAYS be like a dad to gos. that’s not negotiable.

Despite not being the sharpest crayon in the box, Does LP know how attractive he is and sometimes uses that to his advantage?

Hm. In terms of my headcanon...

He probably does know to some extent, but it's not something he concerns himself too much about. He tends to pay attention to his faults more so than his successes - for good or for ill. The show hints that he has dates all over the world (universe?) but whenever he's seen interacting with someone in a romantic context, he gets nervous.

Basically, you have to fill in the gaps. You can believe that he develops his 'hero' personality when he rescues people - which is how he's gained so many lovers of the years, whereas he has a harder time intentionally wooing people. Or maybe 'Suavepad' is closer to his actual self than we think and he worked as a FOWL agent with a dual personality, doing Bradford's dirty work but constantly 'messing up his orders' and just ends up saving people instead.

YMMV.
