📒 Korean Word of the Day
What we learned so far:
Chapter 1
Episode 1 Halmeoni 할머니 - grandmother (or an elderly woman we know well) Episode 2 Bap Eun? 밥은 - What about meal? (= 'How are you?')
Kamsahamnida 감사합니다 - Thank you (formal)
Episode between 3 and 5 Ahjussi/Ajumma 아저씨 / 아줌마 'Ahjussi' refers to a middle aged man (and, for females 'Ajumma'). But often people get offended when they're adressed as 'Ahjussi' or 'Ahjumma' since it's making them older as they (think they) are ^^')
Episode 5 Mani Mogo 많이 먹어 'Mani mogo' is a Korean phrase that translates to "eat well" or "eat heartily". While it doesn't literally mean "eat a lot", it encourages the person to enjoy their meal and consume a generous portion. The phrase is often used as a polite way to wish someone a good appetite, similar to saying "bon appétit" in French or "guten Appetit" in German.
Chapter 2
Episode 1 Yak-Sok 약속 - Promise Also used with the pinky promise
The Episode between 3 and 5 Pyeong Sang 평상 A "pyung sang" is a Korean low-rise platform, often used outdoors for seating, dining, and relaxation. It's a traditional feature found in Korean homes and gardens, providing a place to gather and enjoy the outdoors.
Episode 8 Eoseo Oseyo 어서 오세요 - polite welcome for clients and guests
The Chapter between 3 and 5
Episode 10 Uri jipeuro gaja 우리 집으로 가자 - let's go to our/my house (from 2pm's song 'My house')
Oksang 옥상 - Rooftop/Roof Also refers to the little 'houses' on rooftops and the people who live in them
Norae Bang 노래방 - Karaoke Booth
Chapter 5 Episode 7 Oren man i ya 오랜만이야 - long time no see there are different endings to this but I wanted to use the exact phrase as T.O.P in Big Bang's song 'Monster' ^^'
Chapter 6 Episode 5 Chingu 친구 - Friend Episode 9 Meokja 먹자 = let's eat
