It’s happening again...the kylex feels are back.
@yonkyu13 asked for 16| in dreams, I went ahead and did Kylex cause I haven’t really dabbled in them before
They’re sitting shoulder to shoulder, the tree house floor creaking as Kyle pulls his knees to his chest. His eyes locked on something in the distance, making Alex more worried then he’d been all week. Because his friend kept slipping further and further away, like there was no way to grab him and pull him back in.
“You know,” Kyle says slowly, breaking the silence. “I used to think I’d marry you.”
Alex blinks, taken aback. They were both boys after all, and if Kyle had proven himself to be anything it was loud in his opinion. An opinion that left little wiggle room for any form or sense of being different. He mocked Max Evans incessantly for running into him while reading and was even known to roll his eyes at Rosa’s colorful sneakers.
“Back before,” he gulps, shaking his head. “Before I knew what it really was.”
“Oh,” Alex says dumbly. Not quite knowing what he’s supposed to do or say.
Kyle sighs, “my mom always said to marry my best friend.”
“Oh,” Alex says again, turning to squint at his friend. He looked pale, too pale.
“I… in dreams we did,” Kyle says so quietly Alex wonders if he heard him right.
He gulps, “oh.”
“Aren’t you going to say something?” Kyle mutters angrily, squeezing his knees tighter.
Alex shrugs, “was it that bad?” His heart is beating too fast, his hand sliding across the small space between them. Like if he managed to grab onto Kyle he could pull him to him or back through time before he started down this path.
“It was terrible,” Kyle says bitterly. “I’m not… I’m…”
He sighs, placing his hand on Kyle’s shoulder ignoring the small flinch. “Dreams don’t decide who we are, or I’m gonna be abducted by aliens.”
Kyle laughs, it’s a bright happy sound at least compared to everything before. “Yeah,” he squeezes his knees again. “Yeah.” He looks sad, like he’d expected something else.
“If all else fails we could have a marriage of convenience,” Alex chuckles. “Nothing romantic, but it’d be worth it to see Liz’s face.”
Something lights up in Kyle’s eyes, “promise?”
Alex furrows his brows, he’s confused but he nods. “Promise.”
