Good news!
Despite my recent tinnitus, it has been confirming today by an audiologist that my hearing A-OK! Apparently, my hearing is above average - like that of an 18-year-old (I'm 30).
👏🥳👏
I cannot put into words how relieved I am.
One of my greatest fears is losing one of my senses. This is especially due to the chronic pain in my hip, back and hands caused by my Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder and Hip Labral (Cartilage) Tear making me near unable to walk and struggle to use my hands - severely reducing my touch sense. As such, I was terrified that I might be losing some of my hearing. So, the fact that I'm not - my hearing is fine - is wonderful news!
Even if I do still have tinnitus in my left ear. Been referred for an MRI scan about that. Even so. Yay!
Hello everyone! My name is Bethany Berg. I’m an artist from Colorado who works in games,… Bethany Berg needs your support for Help Beth Fix Their Broken Body
I just realized I haven’t shared this here yet, but I’m trying to raise money to help for recovery after hip surgery I’m going to be having soon!
I have the unfortunate bad luck of having a Labral Tear in my right hip joint that needs to be repaired with surgery. Additionally there are some bone impingements that need to be shaved down to prevent any further damage to the tendons and ligaments. This has been causing me severe pain for several years and I’m very eager to get it done, however, since I work freelance I don’t get any kind of paid time off. So paying for bills and rent and food will be entirely on my shoulders during the recovery period, which will be at least a couple months.
I’m going to still try and draw during that time, but any extra help that allows me to be able to rest and heal will be so greatly appreciated.
Tips to Prepare for Labral Repair & Hip Impingement Surgery
Hey Guys!
I wanted to share my tips for preparing for labral repair and hip impingement correction surgery. If you've read some of my prior posts you may have seen that when the surgeon went into my hip he actually did not find a tear; my tissue was perfectly intact.
So even though I didn't get the labral repair, my prepping for surgery tips remain the same because that is the surgery I was preparing for. Also, as far as recovery, I'm still following the same protocol as someone who did get a labral repair because I still underwent a surgery and I still got the extra bone growth shaved down to address the hip impingement.
Okay so here are my Surgery Prep Tips:
god fucking dammit my doctor just called to tell me my MRI showed I have an acetabular labral tear in the cartilage in my hip joint, just like i fucking said i did when i got my first fucking MRI two years ago. i have seen so many damn doctors, suffered so much pain, caused so much damage to the rest of my body that i developed fucking fibromyalgia, just to find out i’m right and now i’ll need surgery so that I can keeping doing taekwondo like i want to.
i wanna fucking cry.
This was my first time flying since my surgery and my surgical hip lit up during TSA. As far as I can tell, there's no metal in there, just anchoring sutures. I don't know if it's just coincidence, but getting a thorough patdown of your groin from TSA is humiliating.
I also had my first public "is there a doctor on board" so there's that. Residency hospital prepared me well for intoxicated people.
Liar
by Yuki_White (@yukiwhitetm @sentariana)
"She's a liar," they all said
Behind upturned hands,
Their noses stuck up and red
And eyes suspiciously squinted.
"You're a liar," they all said
To my face with clenched hands,
As if their accusations could fill me with dread
And force me to take the witness stand.
"What happened to you?" they all said,
Their nosiness overriding propriety,
Believing they have a right to tread
Onto land where my medical history is buried.
"What's wrong with you?" they all said,
Rudeness incarnate, leaving me trying
For a polite way to cut them off at the head
With a "None of your business," and them complying.
"You're too young," they all said,
Quickly followed up by, "Have you tried yoga?"
Or even the foulest "It's all in your head!"
To which I'm bubbling over like a shaken bottle of Coca Cola.
"You have HSD and a labral hip tear," doctors said,
"It won't get better or go away,
You just have to cope with it instead
Because your disability is here to stay."
"I'm disabled," I say,
And it took me years to accept it;
My disability is here to stay,
Chronic pain and fatigue to my body committed.
In the end, it doesn't matter what they say,
Their questions and accusations don't
Change my situation in anyway.
But it would help immensely if they'd their ear loan
To me as I say,
"It's none of your business what someone's medical
Diagnoses and history
Are nor is it likely they're lying or any less than credible.
"So, please stop saying
All of these things because they're
Rude, unhelpful and only catering
To your own selfish curiosity, which is unfair."

I ran today!!!!!
My PT had me run 1 minute intervals on the treadmill for about 15 minutes. Holy cow, I'm out of shape. I am exhausted. Overall my symmetry is great and I'm not favoring my "good" hip. I have a really good cadence but need to work on a slightly wider stride and not rotating in. Basically undoing 20 years of bad form.
But I didn't have pain! I felt a little bit on the first interval and as I got tired and sloppy, but overall it felt good! Gah this has been such a long process, but I'm so amazed at how the body can heal.
