Actually, if you have a dynamic disability or if you are an ambulatory wheelchair/mobility aide user it IS okay to lie. As someone who has had surgery if you need the lift/ramp etc or someone is giving you shit for not looking disabled tell them you just had surgery, theyre more likely to give it to you (ask me how I know 🙄). Tell them you're recovering from a car accident. Tell them youre dying. Whatever. You don't owe prying ableist strangers your actual medical history. Do whatever you need to get accessibility and whatever you need to get to safety if someone is harassing you.

You know you're disabled when you see someone getting ready in the morning and think, "damn you've been standing for a while do you need to take a break?"

the way that when youre a young adult who is disabled/chronically ill older people often say things like

“just wait until youre my age”

“you young people are so soft now”

“when i was your age i wouldn’t have complained like this”

but when a child is disabled they consider it tragic, what do they think happens to disabled children do they not grow up to be disabled young adults? 😭

Being disabled has made me notice all of the ways the world is failing in accessibility. I’m fortunate that I can now open doors with my arms/hands, but do you know how many times I look around and there is no wheelchair access button on public doorways? Or how many times the button is broken? Or how there is no place to sit in a store, or the chairs were recently removed when I planned on using them to rest? Not to mention the uneven sidewalks, or aisles that are too narrow, or whatever else? People really do forget disabled people exist.

IM SO MAD AT THE SHAME SOCIETY PLACES ON DYNAMIC DISABILITIES

yes, I was walking unaided yesterday; yes, I am using forearm crutches today

yes, I was using forearm crutches but left them behind to go to the bathroom yesterday; yes, I need to use them even to walk two steps today

yes, I went up the stairs unaided yesterday; yes, I needed my crutches to go up to the stairs today; yes, tomorrow I might need to scooch upstairs on my ass because I won't be able to walk them

yes, I walked unaided to the car to get my crutches out of the car in the morning; yes, I will use them to go on a walk in the afternoon

DISABILITY CAN BE DYNAMIC, MOST PEOPLE ARENT ON A FIXED POINT OF SUPPORT NEEDS AND MOBILITY, WE'LL HAVE GOOD AND BAD DAYS AND I DONT NEED TO EXPLAIN MYSELF TO YOU
