Sorry can I gush about character design in Robin Hood (1973) for a second?
Something I love about Maid Marian and Lady Kluck's designs in this movie is that both of them wear headdresses. This might seem pretty unassuming, I mean, it's a noblewoman and her nursemaid wearing headdresses, what's so special about that?
The special thing about it is that the character designs in this movie don't tend to give characters hair that wouldn't naturally occur on an animal of their species. King Richard has a mane because he's a lion, but almost no other character has proper hair aside from a couple tufts of fur sticking up. And that's a pretty big hurdle when designing a character! The way a character styles their hair says a lot about them as a person.
Marian and Kluck, however, solve this problem by wearing wimples, headdresses that were common for people of their status at the time. The wimples act as a stand-in for hair, adding a flowing element to the designs that make them more interesting to look at, while not being distracting.
Marian's wimple is also over a hat that covers her ears, solving the problem of having to figure out how to animate her ears underneath the cloth.
I could go on and on about the character designs in this movie, but perhaps I'll save that for another post.
