I know you won't be able to publish this for a few weeks but I just read chapter 49 and I just wanted to sincerely thank you. That kind of emotional whiplash, and the specific tonal shifts, gave me the exact same cold feeling in my gut that I got when I first read Tigerstar's death scene shortly after arc 1 book 6 was released stateside. I was just a kid then and I think I've been chasing that high ever since. You've captured something really special.

That being said. AUUUUUUUUUUUGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! I had gotten so deeply, deeply attached to both of them and now they're gone! I can't believe we all thought "Fireheart can't count" was a harmless meme!

My name is Frank B. Day, of no particular profession, but I am better known as the first person to develop and discover the practical applications of consciousness. 2/💐 - how would you describe your gender identity?

My gender identity happens to agree with my birth certificate. I identify as female with she/her pronouns, but I'm not bothered if someone says "they" in an effort to be polite.

3/💖 - what's your favourite thing about being queer?

It's really nice to know that the feelings I've struggled to come to terms with all my life have a name and it's not Mental Illness. Finding out there was an actual-facts pride flags for asexuality and demibisexuality brought me to tears. Because it meant there were Other People Who Feel This Way. And there are enough of us to make a banner.

Words cannot describe the profound joy of that discovery, after so many years of being brushed off or told I was confused or strange or that I would change my mind. Of being handed a flag that meant, "We see you. You're not alone. And you're not alone."

(That and being queer gives me a rock-solid leg to stand on when I rattle off my reasons for ignoring my family's expectations of the Eldest Daughter. Traditional marriage and a flock of kids? Sorry, can't help you, I'm queer.)

This may be a bit of a strange ask because I've never read TLT, but I've seen a lot about it on my dash and I'd like to know your opinion on something. I was listening yesterday to songs I grew up hearing a lot, and Pure Pleasure Seeker by Moloko came on, and it struck me that it might be fitting for TLT characters. Thoughts?

hey, former Gifted Child here-- wondering if perhaps other Gifted Child formers share my intense discomfort with/distaste for Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer due to the implication that you're only ever going to be socially desirable if you provide others with some kind of useful service?

When I’m talking to the families of Gifted children, Rudolph is my go-to example for Terrible Narratives Our Society Pushes. As in, “We’ve got to fight the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer narrative, where of course kids will bully and exclude someone weird until they finally prove useful. Rudolph deserved belonging and acceptance from the beginning, and it’s not healthy to focus all your energy on finally being ‘good enough’ to change the minds of the people who hate you.”

Because oh god, it’s just SO BLATANT and SO TERRIBLE.

Sorry I couldn't help but read your tag, you're starting to read the Warriors series? Those books were a huge part of my life (I think I read Into The Wild for the first time when I was in third grade?) and, despite their problems, I hold them dear to my heart still. I hope you enjoy them, and if you want someone to talk to about them, I'd be happy to!

Yes, I’m about 3/4ths through the first book. It took me a second to get used to the style (and used to the use of “meowed” and “mewed” instead of “said”) but I’m enjoying it! I like all these characters and I’m curious about all these different things going on (what happened with Yellowfang, what Tigerclaw’s deal is and what really happened in the battle in the prologue, etc). I know very little about this series (other than the fact that apparently Firepaw eventually becomes Firestar but I guess that’s not a shocker since he’s the main character XD;) so I’m basically going in blind.

I dunno if I’ll read the next book in the series immediately after finishing this one, since I’m currently trying to deplete the stack of books next to my desk. But I’ll definitely read more of this series eventually after I finish this first book!

Barry still wakes up ready to be alone for a long time, after the world is saved. He opens his eyes and immediately reaches out to Lup, and usually wakes her from her trance when he does, but he has to know. They don’t rightly need to sleep anymore, but they do. They don’t need to eat, either, but Taako isn’t about to let them skip ‘family’ dinner nights just because they’re undead.

He’ll curl his arm around her middle and scoot closer, and she’ll pat his hand with a yawn. “What’s up, Barold?” She’ll reach back and pull his other arm over her waist and settle in, dozing.

“Nothing.” He lies, and then. “I just. I love you, Lup. I love you. I missed you so much.”

Lup nods, and turns to face him, her own arms draping over his shoulders. “I missed you too, Barry. If I could have gotten here faster, I would have.” She smiles at him and he can’t help but smile back, because she has that way of somehow easing his worries without doing anything more special than loving him.

He never wanted more than this; hell, he wanted less. He was ready to be a researcher, and maybe, just maybe, have a shot at the gorgeous elf on his team. The fact that she wanted to be with him was enough, even colored by the Hunger’s appearance in the plains and their mad-dash between them to try and stop it. Working for the Raven Queen wasn’t what he’d anticipated, but he was working with Lup, and living with Lup, and she loved him, so it was good.

She loved him, and Taako liked him, and he had his friends– his family back, now, and it was more than he had ever hoped for. And he had Lup, and she had him, and they were happy.

It was good. He still dreamed about the Hunger, about the times he lost, the times he had to die or watch one of them die. About the endless nights, formless and alone, only existing because he needed to fix what they’d done, and bring her back, because he remembered her and remembered his love for her. It wasn’t something that would stop right away; Lucretia had said she still had dreams about watching Magnus forget everyone. Everything.

Now, they’re safe, and they can try to rebuild; Taako is still cold towards Lucretia and Barry still has trouble remembering that Lup will come back, always, but they can rebuild. They saved the plains, all of them, they can work on talking to each other. They can work it out in time. He has Lup, and he knows that anywhere she goes now, he can follow.
