Smaug Destroys Laketown by Greg Hildebrandt
Just had a cultural day at school and it got me thinking of an idea.
There’s Hobbits, Dwarves, Elves and Humans in Middle Earth, different races and definitely different cultures within them.
It got me thinking of differences in various circumstances, like what dances or music? What art styles? What traditions and holidays and clothes ect…
Ofc we know things like Hobbit and Elven dances and music but I want to go in deeper, like Rivendell, Mirkwood and Lothlorien’s differences. Or Erebor, Iron Hills and the Khazad? And Humans with Gondor, Dale, Rohan ect.
And then we have Aragorn, a man of Gondor raised in Rivendell (plus Dundalain), Legolas being fascinated by Lothlorien and it’s traditions, Gandalf being an expert in every single culture and tradition, often being there for the most important or being apart of it.
Plus Bilbo not only having to adjust to Dwarves but also Erebor, and the Iron Hills when the soldiers arrived. Frodo growing up between Erebor and the Shire… totally.
Anyway, any thoughts? Open discussion gang gang
The blondies find this whole situation with Tauriel very amusing
love the way Thorin’s hair, otherwise dark, catches the golden light of torches <3
The Woodland Realm, Dale, and Erebor’s relations could be strengthened by their mutual love of a good party. I know they could throw the most epic parties if they worked together.

You and the rest of the company that had stayed behind in Lake-town had now reached the shores where everyone else had escaped to. You had helped Bard’s kids off the boat while the rest got out to stretch and get a few things ready before traveling along to the Lonely Mountain.
Kili was over talking with Tauriel, trying to spend what little time before leaving with her. You tried not to butt in as it was not your place. Though it had made you smile watching as Kili went from talking about how the elves were beautiful and winking at them in Rivendell to fully mesmerized by one single elf.
You wondered though what made him so attracted to them since Thorin and the others were so opposed of them. Maybe it was rebellion or just the fact he had never seen any before. Though you had understood the feeling of liking someone who was different from you.
As you moved some of the supplies off the boat you heard Óin speak up.
“Even if she saved his life it’s just unusual.” He said trying not to sound as disgusted as he felt. “Liking some pointed ears.” He added looking from them to you and Bofur.
“He’d never seen an elf till we got to Rivendell.” Bofur stated.
“I see nothing wrong with it.” You told them. “Sure she’s no dwarf, but isn’t the fact that he likes someone good?” You questioned. “Besides she’s skilled at fighting and healing, I say those are good things. Plus it could bring an era of peace between elves and dwarves.” You told them.
“We got plenty of fighters and healers of our own.” Óin replied before walking off to grab the last of the supplies for bard’s kids off the boat.
“Besides what would an elf see in a dwarf?” Bofur asked almost rhetorically as he looked at the two of them.
“I don’t know…” You spoke before continuing on, “what I see is someone who is funny, a good singer, courageous, caring to everyone, comforting,” as you listed everything Bofur was thinking how some of this didn’t apply to Kili and was wondering who you could be talking about with such affection, “and above all how good he looks with his hat.” You stated before you took a step away from the boat. “That’s what I like about you Bofur.” You boldly told him with a smile on your face and blushing before walking over to Fili who was looking at the mountain. You had caught him off guard, he was not prepared to just learn what you thought of him.
“(Y/n)!” Bofur called to you as he started to go after you. ”You cannot just say that and walk away!” He exclaimed stopping in his tracks as he felt his heart race. You had just told him everything you saw in him and even confessed. To say he didn’t feel the same was a lie, but he never truly believed you would see him that way. Yes, humans and dwarves were on better terms than elves and dwarves, but that didn’t mean anything happened between them. So when he had realized his feelings he tried to push them back, after all once the quest was over he knew you would return back home; just as Bilbo would his. Now however you confessed right to him and he hadn’t expected it.
What he didn’t see however was how embarrassed you felt just boldly telling him your feelings. You thought slipping it in as you did would slide by him, but as you heard him call out to you, you realized he had fully become aware of what you said.
“Tell him, did you?” Fili asked with a smirk as you stood beside him.
“Wipe that grin off your face! Especially now that I remember we have to row to the mountain.” You said realizing just how awkward things could be in just a few moments.
“Everyone lets go!” Óin yelled as he and Bofur started to try pushing the boat into the water.
You and Fili walked over each of you moving to a side to help.
“Kili!” Fili yelled to his brother.
By the time Kili reached the boat all of you had hopped in ready to row. Of course it was a quiet boat ride. Kili didn’t want to talk and you and Bofur were on opposite sides rowing.
It didn’t take long to reach the shore to the mountain and you were sure the walk to the gate wouldn’t take as long either, but still it was quiet.
When all of you reached the entrance you ran in. Fili, Kili, Óin, and Bofur all started calling to the others in hope that they were alright.
You followed as they continued on walking looking at everything. “It’s amazing!” You exclaimed with a smile on your face.
“It will be even better when everything is running. You‘ll have to stay and see it all lit up.” Bofur replied blushing as he looked at you.
You felt your face heat up again as you looked back at him. “I will then.” You replied.
Kili looks from the two of you in surprise as a smile grows on his face to look at his brother; Fili only nods to him with that same smug grin from before.
“Wait! Wait!” You heard the echoing sound of Bilbo.
“It’s Bilbo! He’s alive!” Óin exclaims as all of you rush to meet him.
“Stop! Stop! Stop!” He yells worryingly as all of you approach him. “You need to leave. We all need to leave.” He tells you.
“We only just got here!?” Bofur states confused.
“I have tried talking to him, but he won’t listen.” Bilbo continues.
“What do you mean? Who?” You questioned.
“Thorin. Thorin. Thorin. He’s been out there for days. He doesn’t sleep. He barely eats. He’s not been himself - not at all. It’s this - it’s this place. I think a sickness lie on it.” Bilbo told all of you.
“Sickness?” You questioned. “I mean there’s a bit of a dragon smell, but other than that it just needs the care to become what it once was and then everything will be even more breathtaking; in a good way.” You said feeling your face go red just think to Bofur telling you to stay.
Bofur’s face lit up too at your words. This doesn’t go past Bilbo, but believes maybe the sickness has begun to spread.
“Why are your faces red? Are you both feeling unwell?” Bilbo asked worried.
None of you had notice Fili looking off in the distance, but he quickly passed by Bilbo as he had asked you and Bofur the question and started for the stairs. “They’re not sick, they just confessed their feelings to one another.” Fili stated as if it was no big deal as he made his way down the steps.
“Oh. Well, good for you.” Bilbo congratulated more so shocked as he looked at the two of you, whose faces were even redder now, before following after Fili down the stairs.
The two of you didn’t move, more in shock that Fili would just say that outright, especially since Bofur hadn’t confessed to you. You really didn’t know what to do right now, let alone know what to say. Bofur cleared his throat before taking a deep breath. This made you look over to him, still seeing the blush on his face.
“I could give you a whole list as well as to what I see in you, (Y/n),” he started to say, “but I will just go ahead and admit that I like you too. I should’ve told you before Fili had said anything.” He confessed looking up to you.
“It’s alright. It’s not like I gave you a chance to answer me earlier.” You told him. “But I’m glad, I’m so unbelievably glad you feel the same.” You responded.
He smiled at your words, “so am I.” He said.
“Bofur! (Y/n)!” You heard Bilbo call.
“Sounds like they need us.” Bofur spoke and you nodded in agreement. He grabbed ahold of your hand in his as the two of you began to walk down the stairs to the others.

Hope y'all like it! When I saw the prompt I actually wanted to use it in more of a Bofur trying to scare the reader sort of way but I couldn't fully figure out what for one of them to say so I went with the confession route.
