one of the most hateable aspects of jin zixun as a character in the story is how, if wei wuxian had done any of the things he does regularly, he would have been chastised and reviled and called arrogant and disrespectful. but jin zixun is Always praised for it. when he forces the lans to drink, they call him "bold", commenting that "that's how a cultivator should act" but it's so.... blatantly and wildly rude and inconsiderate. he's demanding that they do what he wants and betray their own values, the literal rules that they live by, and if they don't, they don't respect him. that's fucking insane. and if wei wuxian had done it, he'd be chased out of jinlintai. wei wuxian literally Does make lan wangji drink in the cloud recesses, and he's physically beaten for it. and it's all such brilliant writing that highlights the faults of the cultivation world and the evil of the jin sect. and it makes me so so mad. which is the point
