Lance: That's Keith. We're rival pilots
Keith: Who are you?
Lance running into Keith at a dinner after a football game
I edited this and already posted on Instagram... So I figured why not post it on tumblr too? I basically just wanted to mess around with his facial expressions, and without music it would have been boring!! So yeah... I call it- Lance say “NO”! (Because of the song...)

Wowie do I love this one! Not quite done but I will post the finished version! It’s lance from voltron hurt becuse I love hurting my favorite!
So uhm yeah I just thought of this now but I've been seeing a LOT of 'Lance feels like the seventh wheel' kind of posts, and I can't help but draw parallels from Lance of Voltron, to Leo Valdez from HoO.
Both of them are the seventh wheel.
Both of them use sarcasm, or witty remarks, or humor, to cover up whatever they're feeling, like depression, or homesickness.
And I just want them to be h a p p y.
and now I've made myself sad.
i really like cib’s character, and not on just on a surface level. i love how a character can hold such eyeroll-inducing humour and also a juxtaposing melancholy. it takes the usual bittersweet jokester trope to a new level and it’s executed perfectly.
Trans Lance Voltron Drabble- Acceptance.

there’s a lot of things lance never understood. such as people judging and hating others because they looked, dressed, or believed differently from themselves. these things people can’t help.
what bothered him the most, however, was when people shamed and hated others that don’t identify with the gender they were born as or those who love the same gender or no gender whatsoever. people also can’t help these traits, so why waste your breath sharing a stupid, hateful opinion that is none of your concern?
lance dealt with a lot of issues like this, eventually from his own family.
“mama?” lance asked one day as a child, his voice high-pitched and innocent. “why were those strangers looking weirdly at us in the shop?” his mother frowned, uncomfortable with her daughter’s question. however, she quickly covered her negative feelings with a soft smile.
“it’s because we’re from Cuba, leslie.” she replied with a soothing voice. “we look a lot different from other people here, and my voice sounds different from everyone else.” she reached in the back seat to ruffle her daughter’s hair. “some humans aren’t very nice to each other, my precious leslita. we’re unique, darling, and you should feel proud of that.”
lance- or leslie, as he was back as a child- gave his mom a toothy grin. “i like your voice, mama,” he said. “and i think you are very pretty.”
his mother chuckled and replied, “you’re a muoy bonita girl, leslie.”
lance always felt uncomfortable in his own skin. his mom always saying what a beautiful daughter he was- it never felt right. he loved his mom, so he always pretended to be interested in girly things like dolls and dresses to make her happy. however, the whole time he did that, a voice at the back of his head told him that it wasn’t who he was.
around the time he was eleven, lance was positive that there was something wrong with him. he had heard his parents talking about how people who were transgender were confused and possessed by a demon. at the time, lance had no idea what the word meant, so he borrowed his mom’s phone and researched it.
“transgender,” lance read aloud, in the private corners of his bedroom. “someone who was born one gender, but knows and identifies as something other than their biological sex.” a tinge of familiarness went through his mind. this… sort of sounds like me, lance thought. but the way mom and dad talked about it, it’s a bad thing. i shouldn’t feel this way.
warily, he clicked on a link about transgender stories. the first one he read was about a boy who didn’t feel like a boy, but not like a girl either. they figured out they were agender, which was defined as not having a gender.
another story told about a boy, born as a girl, that hated feminine things and protest them strongly. as a child he would always steal his brother’s clothes and wear them in secret. when he was forced to wear dresses, he would get upset because he felt like he was lying to himself and his parents. eventually, he told them he was a guy, and his parents didn’t take that well. they kicked him out of the house, called him a disgrace and undeserving of life. luckily, an accepting family had adopted him and he met his now husband a year after.
lance hadn’t noticed he was crying until a drop of water splattered on the surface of the screen. he wiped his eyes and sniffled. “there are others that are just like me,” lance whispered. “it isn’t just me.” it’s okay, it isn’t wrong for me to feel like this. “i’m not supposed to be this way, i’m broken and confused.” i don’t want to be broken. i just want to be me. repeating his mother’s words made it hard for him to bear the truth. lance just wanted to make her happy, for his mother had been through a lot. yet he felt like a disappointment. her only daughter wasn’t one at all- she was a boy.
wiping away his tears, lance cleared the history from his mother’s phone just as she walked in. “leslie?” she asked. “do you have my phone?” lance nodded, handing it over, his small fingers shaking. he tried to avoid eye contact with his mom, not wanting for her to ask questions. of course, she noticed, and asked him what was wrong.
“nothing,” lance replied. “i just read a sad story, that’s all.” she seemed to accept it, and left his room, shutting the door behind her. tears returned to his bright blue eyes and he sniffled. i feel like such a disappointment, lance thought. when she finds out, she’ll hate me. i might not have a home anymore. he lifted his head and stared at the ceiling, sniffling once again.
“why was i made like this?”
for years, lance hated himself for it. the truth constantly haunted his mind, making him depressed and unable to think clearly. his self-esteem dropped, and he started doing more rebellious things to try to cover up his worst sin. lance’s mother always sounded agitated, constantly saying how much she missed when lance was a bright, respectful child.
when lance was sixteen, he applied for the garrison and was accepted. before he moved in to attend the school, lance cut his hair, wore more masculine clothes, and bought a chest binder. he always had a small chest and hardly had anything to bind, but he wanted to be sure there were no signs of him being biologically female when he arrived.
at the garrison, lance purposely deepened his voice and joked around a lot, flirting with girls to make the truth as invisible as he possibly could. he tried to hide his inner thoughts and depression with those jokes, but him not being the top of the line hurt him, making him feel like he wasn’t good enough. lance hated that he wasn’t able to beat keith. yes, he loved his friends, but they weren’t enough.
once, when his friend pidge surprised him, his voice went back to his normal feminine one. lance dismissed it, claiming his voice got high-pitched when he was scared. pidge continued to tease him about it, but no one realised his sex at the time, and lance was afraid of it happening any time soon.
when lance became a paladin of voltron, there were times when he spent hours communicating with his lion, ranting about his thoughts and how much he missed his family despite them upsetting him greatly without knowing. he told blue about how he felt inferior to everyone, and how he was the only girl paladin and how much he didn’t belong.
when pidge came out as a girl, lance was relieved. he wasn’t the only person with boobs on the ship, and the other who did was one of the most valuable assets to the team. lance was genuinely surprised when pidge confessed, and he felt slightly embarrassed when everyone except for him already knew. lance told himself he should have realised it sooner, being biologically female as well, but deep down he was more happy than angry with himself.
lance began to accept that he was normal, that being a guy though he wasn’t born one is perfectly okay. there are millions of people like him, and one of them were even on his team. no matter what anyone says, he isn’t broken, confused, or possessed. he is lance mcclain, the blue paladin of voltron. what he was has nothing to do with who he is now, and lance loves himself for finally accepting the truth.
lance still acted as happy as he usually did, though it became a lot more genuine. the other paladins noticed how much happier he was acting and how better he was getting at piloting his lion.
after battling zarkon was finally over, lance came out to the team. he told them that he was biologically female, though he was still a guy and he always has been. it was hard to finally work up the courage to do so, but when he did everyone was accepting. no one treated him differently or used female pronouns, though they did seem to become more supportive of him.
lance was happy that there were people he was close to that loved and respected him for who he is and not what he was born with. he felt hope for the first time in forever, and everyone would make him stay that way. sure, lance had his doubts whenever he failed a mission or missed a shot, but his fellow paladins and altean crew mates made sure he felt happy.
lance is thankful for all the support he got from all of his friends, who became as close to him as family. in fact, lance decided that when he returned to earth he would come out to his family. yes, it will be messy, but at least he has people he can trust to help him when the time comes. for now, however, he will continue to be the best lance he can be and nothing else.
sure, it was difficult, but lance was okay. he was accepted by the people he loved most. even more important, he accepted himself, and he wishes he could go back and time and tell his younger self that everything will be okay. things always work out in the end, and everything happens for a reason. his hardships made lance really, truly happy, and that’s what matters most.
