14 Day Langblr/ Languages Challenge by lass-uns-studieren

Day 1: Your target languages and why you want to learn them.

Irish: Ireland is one of my favorite places. I have spent a lot of time studying Irish history and mythology. I love Irish music. I love the VSO order of the language, Hiberno English, and how differently the language conceptualizes things from English.

Swedish: My fascination with Swedish started off with a research paper I read on JSTOR (see a more detailed explanation in this post). I’m intrigued by the connections between Swedish and German. I like the musicality of the language. I’m also a big fan of Swedish musicians and mythology.

Latin: In the last few months, I’ve attended several webinars about multilingualism and linguistics, and so many people in them mentioned how much studying Latin helped them with other languages they were learning, so I started studying it. This one also transfers over as a great help to my secondary field, art history.

Okay time to do a challenge

After seeing some challenges (thanks to @languagesandshootingstars !!) I decided to do a short challenge to begin from Thursday 16th May to Wednesday 22nd May (1 week before I go to London!!!)

If someone want to do it just start whenever you want (I will post more in #6daysadvancedenglish) and if you want to do it with another language feel free to adapt

I will try to improve my english to reach the C1 level for the CAE (a Cambridge exam) that I'll pass the 11th June

1st day : write 2 essays of 120 words (I would took themes in my book)

2nd day : do a ''reading and use of english'' part of a mock exam (I have a book with some I'll post it)

3rd day : practice at the speaking part, pick two pictures and compare them in 2 minutes, first without looking for any words, than try to perfect it by learning some new words (10 for example)

4th day : watch an episode of a serie (or a movie) with the subtiles of the language chosen and write any new word learnt (guess the meaning and check afterwards)

5th day : watch a video of someone speaking with the accent you want to have and try to mimick it (it'll be the british one for me)

6th day : try a new accent (I'll do the Australian one <3), try to hear the differences with the one did the day before and do a vocable list, for me it will be about words like "therefore" (idk how they are called fhjegr)

Hope I'll manage to do all of this and that you'll all achieve your language goals <3

So I finished my Langblr Challenge yesterday :)

What can I say after these few days passed from one post to another? I definitely can think in french (yay!) and there’s a loooong way for me to speak spanish (nah). It’s funny how these languages mix in my head though.

Hope you guys enjoyed my #original post (or check them out now, links below) and that i kept this blog moving a little before unwanted semi-hiatus during academic year.

Français

J’apprenais français depuis longtemps, presque le même temps que l’anglais, bien que moins intensif. Je voudrais continuer jusqu'à mon meilleur. Maintenant je suis B1/B2 mais je me sens insecure à parler toujours. D’outre, je suis amoureux au ton de cette langue, c’est la poésie parmi des langues.

Español

Me gusta mucho el sonido de este idioma también. Me encantan los escritores latinos como G.G.Marquez o José Saramago, además quiero leer los poemas de Pablo Neruda en versión original. A veces me divierto escuchando la música cubana. Son todos los cosas que español me da, pero no soy que la principante.

7. Hardest thing about your target language(s)

Français: j’ai toujours marre de mon accent... Probablement, c’est parce que ne parle trop, mais je n’exerce pas parce que je suis inquiet de mon accent... C’est très frustrant quand j’écoute mes copines qui apprennent depuis moins temps que moi, mais qui parlent si bien, juste parce qu’elles ont la capacité pour entendre l’accent... Pour pratiquer ça, je parfois lis à haute voix, mais c’est un sujet difficile pou moi.

Español: por ahora, como la principiente, no tengo muchas dificultades con este idioma. No ejercicio regularmente, eso es el peor. En general digo que no tengo mucho tiempe, pero cuando tengo tiempe, no tengo la motivación... Es por eso que escucho la música española - algunos letras de canciones me interesa  más que Duolingo.

Sé que no trabajo regularmente, al menos intento… Otra cosa es que Duolingo  sólo no es el mejor método para aprendir la idioma, ¿qué piensas?

2. Favourite word in your target language(s)

En français c’est probablement... 🍊 Le Pamplemousse 🍊 sens-tu la mollesse de son juc? 🍊

En español es por ahora... 🥪 La Bocadilleria 🥙 la tienda des bocadillos pero suena como la tierra del tesoro 🥪
