Coming out scenes in BL series parallels with my coming out
Spoilers + I'm quite vulnerable here so please do not be rude
1. Pete coming out to his mom in Love by Chance
We can see how scared he is that his mom is going to hate him. He hesitates to say it straight and even apologizes for not liking women instead. This is the reality for millions of teens including me. The fact that we even have to apologize for something that is not decided by us even when our parents aren't mad at us is very disheartening. She already knows about the leaked video, but instead of talking about that, she shifts the topic and asks Pete whether he has eaten and then gives him a warm hug and gives an amazing monologue which most of us wish we would've gotten when we came out. This is a little different from my life and is the reaction I hope I would've gotten but okay.
2. Arthit coming out to his colleagues in Sotus S
This scene is very important as he tells everyone about his relationship with Kongpob. We can see that he was not ready to come out before and was even rude to Kongpob because he was afraid of what others' would think. This is certainly a character development moment I never knew I needed. All my friends and acquaintances had positive reactions to me coming out or even when I randomly mention liking girls in appropriate situations.
3. Thun coming out to his mom in He's Coming to me
This is again, a very important scene since
1) Thun says he is attracted to guys and not to a specific guy
2) His mom immediately shows her support and reassures him that there is nothing wrong about being himself. His mom is very supportive right of the bat and that's amazing
4. Cairo apologizing for being gay in Gameboys
Though he's already out, Cairo really talks about it this time. He feels responsible for his father's illness and death. His mom quickly reassures him that it is not his fault but that she, as a parent, must've put in effort to gain his trust as she knew he was gay all along. Even his father doesn't seem to be mad at him. TBH I actually had a small bag packed incase my parents wanted to kick me out but they didn't. Instead they were mad at me for not trusting them enough, But again, they didn't do anything to gain my trust. My mom knew, I knew she knew that I was gay because I subtly came out to her multiple times but she just brushed it off as a phase. I'm glad they're accepting now.
5. Oh-Aew's coming out in I Told Sunset About You
This is shown very subtly but is such a heartwarming scene. He breaks down and asks the question that I always hesitate to ask my parents. I spent years questioning and hating myself not just because of my sexuality but also because I never really did anything to make my parents proud and yes I am kinda tearing up writing this but I'm fine dw. But my parents always reassure me that they are and that they love me just like Oh-Aew's parents did.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk
