So there was this Scooby Doo movie back in ye olde Blockbuster days (I believe) where the gang go to Mexico to help a friend there with a chupacabra problem. In the beginning of the movie, Fred is actively learning Spanish to better talk to locals, trying to be a better interviewer by speaking on equal terms not through a translator. He doesnt become fluent by any means BUT he knows enough to where he can read signs and handwritten Spanish. This gives the gang a major clue BECAUSE the Mystery Machine gets vandalized while in Mexico and the words written on the van are in Spanish.
Fred realized the culprit wasn't a native Spanish speaker because they missed an accent on one of the words! Fred knew this because he had freshly studied the language before arriving! It was a huge reveal in the movie and I remember being so blown away by this small fact being what brought the gang to the real culprit.
Now, I grew up watching Dora and Diego and later taking Spanish courses in my middle school and doing the Duolingo thing off and on throughout the years. I am currently 'on' Duolingo, so to speak because I like Spanish and I want to be fluent in another language and I had a coworker at my last job who only spoke Spanish but she and I still talked from time to time and what I could figure out from her Spanish she was a HILARIOUS woman and I really wish I could have understood more of her jokes.
Anyway, I'm currently studying Spanish and part of that is me writing down what I'm learning to also get a feel for seeing and writing the letters. To this day, I triple check my accents. I make sure words like Español and niño and fácil and está and también have the right punctuation. Of course, I'm learning so I do make mistakes from time to time. This is normal and not something I SHOULD beat myself up over. HOWEVER, every time it happens I can't help but feel like I let Fred down.
