leech (helobdella stagnalis) showing internal structures - warren photographic image library (link)
I got two leeches last week, whom I named DB Cooper and Dieter. They were packed in a cloth baggy with some cooling gel instead of the plastic transport cup that they used for my leeches last time. Anyway, Dieter (pictured above) has something weird going on with his backside and can’t really use his sucker. He was shedding today and I helped him out just before taking the pics, but I have no idea what’s going on with his backside. I’m not sure if he’s sick or got injured on the way but I put him and DB in separate jars just in case.
Dieter is otherwise healthy enough, just hangs out on the glass and will sometimes swim around. He was crawling around while I pulled the shed skin off his butt and was sniffing around.
Anyone on Leechblr know what’s up? I have no issue feeding leeches from myself but won’t take any chances with Dieter. DB died during his second escape attempt so Dieter has some new siblings on the way.
