𝒴ou didn't know how you ended up here.
A moment ago, you had been deep asleep, but now you were laying on soft grass that tickled your neck.
Ah, you remember. You had been on a hiking trip in the forest but got caught in a severe thunder storm and tripped, hitting your head on a rock.
You sat yourself up, drinking in all your surroundings. You couldn't tell if your eyes were blurry or if the atmosphere had a slight softness to it. Little mushroom huts with different coloured tops were scattered around the area and large trees, like 10 times the height and width of the huts, loomed over with leaves that were almost glowing.
You spotted someone sitting on a tree calmy, holding a small silver harp and wearing sandals. His resting abruptly came to a halt when he stopped. He gracefully fell from the tree. Was he walking towards you?
He strummed his harp slowly. But he paused, he tried again and again but the more times he did it the more crazy he looked.
"Why isn't it working...?" He pouted.
"Um, excuse me...sir?" You stood up and asked, "W-where exactly am I...?"
The man moved closer to you, circling around you as if he were analysing something. You noticed the freckles scattered on his face under the sunlight, his eyelashes were a pale brown, and he had oddly pointed ears too. He almost looked as unreal as this forest.
"Um...are you human?" The man abruptly asked.
You scoffed, not knowing if this cosplayer was being for real. "What else would I be?" You crossed your arms.
"Ah...that's it. That's why you're so...odd."
"You're the one to talk about odd!" You huffed. "Aura farming in a tree with a harp of all things."
"Aura...farming? Humans are an odd species."
You didn't know if this guy had truly lost it or was just a very good actor.
"My harp is not working...I can't listen to your song..." He grumbled, looking down at his harp.
"What song?? Okay, sir, I really need to get back home, those 5-minute noodles aren't going to eat themselves. Can you just- please tell me the direction or something?"
"Please keep your voice down, you'll wake up the other elves. It's resting time."
"So why are you awake?" You asked as if you were implying he was even an elf.
"Someone has to protect the garden from outsiders...like yourself."
"Are you genuinely an...elf?"
"Yes? My name is Leehan, I'm guardian of the Raindrop elves garden. I'm a heart listener. A rare type of elf that can hear the emotional song of every creature but oddly enough I can't hear yours."
"...So..how is listening to a- um 'song' helpful?" You ask.
"It helps me analyse peoples personalities, their good and evil, their tune with nature, and their current emotional states." He stated matter of factly, picking up his harp to strum one more time, bringing his ear to your chest.
"Wait a minute- so am I just trapped here?"
You watched Leehan completely ignore you as his elf magic failed for the fourth time, he was starting to get embarrassed, becoming doubtful of his abilities everyone praises him for.
He's become completely curious by you.
"Do...you maybe want to see the garden?" He asked. "Because I say this truthfully, I have no clue about directions to the human areas. So, may as well explore this once-in-a lifetime experience."
Leehan persuaded, knowing he just wants to keep you around to fix his damaged ego and prove his abilities work.
As you guys started walking around, your eyes caught onto a beautiful white horse, with a pale blonde mane, braided into a plait.
"Oh, that's Hera. My horse. Do you wanna get on?" He gestured to the horses flower full straddle. You quickly hopped on, steadying yourself. The horse was extremely soft and smelt like grass.
You trotted around, not realising the village had awoken and Leehan was already explaining the situation to them.
"Alright, fine." King Zico sighed, talking in an ancient language you couldn't understand. "You can keep her around, just make sure she doesn't cause any disturbance with the nature, like littering. I'm only letting you do this because your special Leehan, okay?"
Leehan bowed. "Yes your highness."
You hopped off the horse and saw countless elves watching you with skepticism and curiosity.
Leehan walked to you, harp in hand already ready to strum it again. He did it again, and...nothing. He quickly snapped his head back to the other villagers, making sure they didn't see his failed attempt.
"I'm yet to see when these so called powers of your rare elf prototype actually start working." You mentioned, unbothered. Maybe you were right, he had lost his mind.
"We need to go somewhere, more private..." Leehan gritted, ignoring your comment as he dragged you away from the village to a cave.
"This is the crystal cave. Please try to refrain from touching the crystals with your...sin of human-ness."
You gave him an annoyed look. "Whatever that means..." Your eyes caught onto a big glowing crystal as you made your way inside. All the purple, blue, and light blue crystals started glowing brightly. You were completely amazed.
"So what are you feeling right now?" He asked, trying not to come off as curious.
"Ah, so this is what you ask people when you can't invade their feelings without your powers." You smirk.
"That- I just wanted to know! You seem really amazed by all the crystals 'n all.." He crossed his arms, his ears wiggling.
"Righty oh..." You grin, glancing back to your reflection in the crystals.
You walk out of the cave, feeling lighter than you had in months.
"You can just...sleep on the floor of my hut, okay? I still need you around." He mumbled. You raised an eyebrow. "FOR EXPERIMENTS. EXPERIMENTS ONLY." He spat out quickly, surprised that one small gesture got him so worked up.
You found yourself walking to a particular large tree, blocking out Leehan's rambling.
"Hello..." You heard a voice hum softly. You panicked, glancing at the elf behind you for an explanation.
"Don't worry," Leehan rolled his eyes. "It's the spirit fairies. They like to play around a lot. They've probably already grown a liking to you."
They dropped petals on your head, giggling softly like an echo.
Looks like your going to have to stay in Raindrop garden for a while.
˚˖𓍢ִ໋`🌿:
Four days of failed 'experiments' went by, and you were feeling more and more like you wanted to stay than wanted to leave.
You were sitting on a small brown stool, waiting for the harp torture to end.
"Leehan!" You snapped. "It's been hours! Can't we go outside and explore more nature! I really wanted to see the pond..."
Leehan looked genuinely shocked that you wanted to explore more. "Really...?" He asked, a grin crawling up his face. "Alright. Just wait, one more time. Pleassseee! Pleasy weasy lemon squeezy!" He crouched, hands clasped.
You sighed and nodded. He leaned in close, his eyes squinted, concentrating. Nothing. He leaned closer. Still nothing. At some point, he ended up nose to nose with you.
"WAHHH-? BACK AWAY, HUMAN!" He jumped away, clutching his chest, his ears wiggling.
You just watching him make a scene. "You're the one who did that, I didn't even move...and you forgot your harp." You pointed at the poor silver harp laying on the floor. He stared at the harp, before looking at you.
"It was just a part of the experiment."
"You could just ask how i'm doing instead of...that."
"I-I just like listening! Is that uhh..what do humans call it?"
You sighed, "crime. Is-"
"IS THAT A CRIME?"
You stared at him with an even more deadpan expression, you couldn't believe the audacity of this elf.
He suddenly calmed down, dusting himself off. "Let's go outside then, shall we?" The lune, Leehan opened the door.
The elves were doing their usual activities, tending to the garden, horse riding events, crystal trading, bracelet making, dancing and more.
Flowers were falling from behind you, it wasn't the fairies.
You glanced to Leehan, confused. All he did was shrug. But he knew that it was his fault. He just couldn't help it. He smiled to himself silently.
"Oh..Leehan.." Voices hummed. Leehan glanced up to the trees, gesturing for the fairies to keep quiet. The fairies used their magic to nudge Leehan into you.
You collapsed to the floor, your modern clothes getting dirty. Leehan frowned to himself, trying not to get upset with the fairies. He pulled you up from the ground.
"My apologies..." Leehan mumbled.
Before you could apologies, another fairy came from the bracelet making station.
"Do you need some new clothes? My names Bae. Hello Guardian." She bowed after glancing to Leehan. Damn, this lune was actually respected?
"Thank you, that would be much appreciated, Bae."
"Not a problem!" Bae beamed before walking with you to her mushroom hut.
She shuffled around draws and clothing hangers that were entangled in leaves.
After a few more minutes, Bae gasped.
"This is it. This is the one."
Leehan was waiting impatiently outside, tapping his foot on the grass, but the wait was worth it when you walked out. Your hair was delicately covered with small petals, and your white silk dress reached your ankles. You looked absolutely gorgeous.
"Um...Leehan?" You waved in his face. "Are we going to check out the pond now?"
"No, let's check out the crafting tables." He responded quickly, not making eye contact with you. You wondered if he was okay.
You guys sat at the table, you watched the other elves do their thing. You saw Leehan quickly working away as if bills were due.
He glanced at you almost three times. "Are you going to keep staring at me...?" He finally said.
"What are you making?" You tilted your head.
"Oh nothing, just something of completely no value."
"Oh...okay?" You laugh, confused.
"Elves only craft gifts for people they cherish." He stated, putting the huge flower crown on your head.
"Leehan..." You smiled.
"Don't say my name like that. And don't smile like that either." he coughed awkwardly.
"Are you saying you cherish me?"
"It's no big deal." He shrugged.
"Your ears are wiggling though. You always do that when you're flustered." You tapped his ear. He instantly covered them with his palms.
"Yeah Leehan...you clearly like her.." The fairies hummed.
"Don't you guys have something better to do!?" Leehan looked down, crossing his arms.
The fairies giggles echoed away.
"It's fine if you didn't mean it in that way..." You say to see his reaction.
"NO- Yes I do mean I cherish you." He stuttered.
"Hmmm that's what I thought." You giggle as he pauses, slamming his head onto the table, but his ears were glowing red.
˚˖𓍢ִ໋`🌿:
Night settled over the garden like a velvet blanket, deep blue and shimmering. The trees hummed softly, a lullaby only elves usually hear, but tonight, they seem to be singing for you.
Your elven Heartlistener walked beside you, steps silent, harp in hand, and anytime he glanced your way, the tips of his ears glowed a warm gold he pretends not to notice.
You reached a small clearing where the fireflies gathered into spirals, forming a soft halo of light. He paused, hesitating, then he gestured for you to sit on a mossy log. When you do, he sits beside you, closer than usual. Close enough that your shoulder almost touch.
The forest quiets, he does not. Leehan kept stealing little glances at you, as if trying to memorize the shape of your silhouette against the moon.
"What are you feeling right now?" He asks in a soft voice.
"Calm." You smiled.
A cool breeze drifted through the clearing, and you shivered before you could stop yourself. Instantly, instinctively, he shifted closer, grabbing the cloak he had brought with him and wrapped it around you. His fingers brushed your collarbone as he fastens the clasp.
He froze. You looked up. He was blushing so hard his eyes looked like tiny lanterns.
"I apologise," he stammered. "Elves share warmth. It's a tradition- I mean - not tradition, but- I didn't want you to be cold."
You tugged the cloak tighter around yourself. "Thank you. It's warm."
He exhaled, relieved, and the forest lights brightened as if sharing his breath.
For a moment, neither of you speak. The night is quiet, the air soft, the world holding it's breath around you.
Leehan leaned in, not touching you but close enough that you felt the wamrth radiating from him. He strummed his harp.
"May I... listen?" he asked, voice trembling slightly.
You nodded.
Fireflies swirled around as he closed his eyes, holding your face gently. He heard nothing, but felt everything. When he opened his eyes, they were glowing faintly.
"You can't hear it, can you." You smiled.
"I can't, but being near you...it feels like i'm learning it anyway."
"Maybe that's better."
You both laughed.
His ears glowed again, and this time, he didn't look away.

It started with rain. Not the cozy rain that slightly taps your window and makes you want to snuggle in a blanket.
This was dramatic, heavy rain. The kind that slams sideways, rattles gutters, and makes you question whether you accidently angered a sky god.
And for some reason it was only pouring over one specific area.
Your apartment. You stood at the window, staring at the downpour that only seemed to be targeting his balcony specifically. The rest of the building? Dry. The street? Dry. The sky? mostly clear.
Your balcony? Biblical flood.
"Cool," You muttered. "Love this for me."
You grabbed an umbrella. Pointless, but comforting, and stepped outside into the hallway. You marched next door and knocked gently. You genuinely couldn't stay in your apartment.
You heard the rain soften into nothingness.
You blinked, confused. Your attention was brought back to the door that had already opened. There stood the new neighbour, Leehan. Smoke stung your nostrils as you eyes dropped to the tray he was holding of burnt...somethings.
"Um, Hello." Leehan said, voice small. "Sorry for the weather."
You paused then laughed awkwardly. "Why are you apologising for the weather? It's not like you control it or something."
Leehan stood silently for a few seconds.
"Ummm...do you actually believe you control the weather...?"
"I do! Come inside." Leehan glanced around the hall like someone was watching them and yanked you inside. He brought you to the window and held his hand out.
You watched as the rain that had stopped a few minutes ago...didn't come back.
"Damn, bringing me into your apartment for this. Wow, you must be really coocoo." You tried to suppress your laughter.
Leehan sulked and leaned on the window. "I swear no one ever believes me..."
You crossed your arms and sighed in disbelief of this guy. He was handsome. He didn't look like a crazo but looks can be deceiving.
"Well, duh? You sound-"
You could hear rain hitting the window aggressively as you snapped your head to the window. And it was only on his apartment.
You glanced back at him as he was smirking at you.
"I sound what? Crazy?" He laughed.
"What...are you?" You glanced him up and down. "You actually control the weather?"
"Not on purpose." He sighed, glancing back at his tray of burnt cookies.
"So, what, you were born a freak?" You give him a weird look.
"NO. I'm just...different I guess." He picked up the tray. "I was trying to bake cookies." He explained, "And then I got frustrated, And then it started raining. Then I cried. And then it started raining harder."
You blinked. "So...the one person who has the power to control the weather can't even control their emotions...this sounds great."
"Well I didn't ask for this! And who are you to judge my character, you just met me!" Leehan gave you an annoyed look.
"You're the one that dragged me here."
"You're the one that knocked on my door."
"YOU'RE THE ONE THAT CAUSED THE RAIN." You puffed.
You saw him pouting as the rain intensified.
"Jeez...your emotions control the weather so easily." You sighed, rubbing your temples. "Do...you need help?"
Leehan perked up. "With the cookies?"
"With...everything. I couldn't imagine having that kind of power and having to deal with it by myself."
Leehan's cheeks warmed. A soft breeze blew through your hair. We're inside where did that even come from.
"I'd like that." He grinned.
You walked to his kitchen, glancing at the mess of cutlery and flour.
"I swear I followed the recipe." Leehan said, annoyed, gesturing to a tray of cookies that looked like they had survived a volcanic eruption.
You bit back a smile. "Did you cry on them?"
Leehan's shoulders slumped. "Maybe."
A tiny rumble of thunder rolled through the room.
You hugged him gently, trying to calm him down. "It's okay! We can do the recipe better this time."
He froze awkwardly. "Are you sure you want to help me?"
"Of course," You said, "I'm not letting you cook alone here."
They gathered the ingredients, bumping elbows and brushing hands more often than necessary. Leehan read the recipe aloud while you measured the flour.
"Not too much." Leehan warned. "Last time I sneezed and it snowed."
You paused. "...Snowed?"
"Indoors."
You grinned. "I kind of want to see that."
Leehan subtly blushed, a soft breeze sweeping through the kitchen. "Maybe later."
Leehan rolled his sleeves up and mixed the dough together. Leehan's hand brushed yours slightly. The contact was brief, but warm enough to send a tiny spark, a literal spark, across the bowl.
You blinked. "Uh...what was that—"
"Static!" Leehan said quickly. "Probably. Maybe. Hopefully."
You laughed, and Leehan's cheeks warmed again.
They shaped the cookies into circles. Leehan's were perfect, yours were lopsided. You guys slid the tray into the oven.
Leehan leaned against the counter, exhaling. "This is...nice."
You glanced over. "Baking?"
Leehan shook his head." You. Being here."
A soft pink glow filled the room, like a sunset blooming from nowhere.
Your breath caught. "Leehan..."
Leehan looked away, flustered. "Sorry. I didn't mean to. My emotions just—"
"It's okay," You said gently. "I like it."
Leehan forze. Then slowly, shyly, he smiled.
You flinched as the oven beeped.
"Oh right, Cookies." Leehan pulled the tray out. The sweet smoke hit your face. The sight of the crisp chocolate chips made you hungry.
Leehan stared at them excitedly. "They're...not burnt."
You nudged him. "See? Teamwork."
Leeehan handed you a cookie. "Taste test?"
You stared at the cookie. "Why is it heart shaped? I thought all the cookies at least somewhat resembled a circle..."
"Just eat it!"
You took a bitie. Soft. Sweet. Warm. You grinned.
Leehan watched nervously. "Well?"
"Wouldn't you like to know weather boy." You picked up another cookie.
"NO ACTUALLY."
You smiled. "Best cookie I've ever had."
Leehans eyes curved. "Really?"
"Really."
A gentle drizzle began outside. Light, happy rain tapping against the window like applause.
Leehan looked towards the sound, then back at you.
"I think the weather likes you," he said softly.
Your heart did a strange, fluttery thing. "I think I like you too." The rain suddenly stopped as Leehan paused slightly.
The rain outside turned into a soft, shimmering mist.

The breeze of spring hit your face as you made your way into your college campus. Your pink suitcase had your luggage rummaging inside. The key in your hand would determine the fate of the rest of the school year. You walked down the corridors of the dorm halls, smelling old carpet dust. Doors passed your eye view from each side.
You stopped at one door. Room 49. You grinned, placing the key in the lock and slightly twisting your hand. Once you stepped in you looked around then turned to close the door.
You paused, facing the door, before bouncing around your new apartment dorm.
"Finally free from my mum's constant nagging! I just hit the jackpot! WOOP WOOP WOOP-"
Your time to celebrate was stopped when you bumped into a large object while turning around. "What the-"
You looked up awkwardly. That wasn't an object, but it's biceps were huge. A man??
"Are you my roomate..? I'm Leehan. Nice to meet you." Heat rose to your face. That was embarrassing.
"I'm {Name}!" You spluttered at the handsome man. "Now there has to be something wrong with this campus for letting a man be roommates with a women on school grounds!"
"Right. It's odd. I'm not complaining though." He smiled before walking to his side of the dorm.
"What's that supposed to mean?" You smirked. You pulled out sticky tap from your purse, crouching to the floor. Leehan crouched in front of you.
"Hey, no need," He gently grabbed your wrist. "Trust me, I won't come to your side. Unless you want me to."
"Right..." You bolted up. "Stop looking at me like that." You give him an annoyed look before leaving the dorm, leaving him stranded on the ground, amused.
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
A few months later...
Unexpectedly, You and Leehan had grew extremely close as the year went by. You even considered him one of your close friends at this point. Despite having a pretty face, Leehan was more layered than you had thought at first.
You could hear popping coming from the microwave as something salty slightly stung your nostrils. You quickly pressed the microwave open when it hit 0:01 to grab the popcorn before the stupid machine started beeping.
You quickly ran to the couch next to Leehan. Next to as in completely opposite sides of the couch. The popcorn in the middle being the third wheel. Leehan's mouth was stuffed with popcorn. Maybe you were the third wheel.
Leehan quietly grabbed the remote and scrolled for the movie you guys were about to watch.
"Jee, you've been quiet these days." You joked, shoving popcorn into your mouth before the movie had even started.
"It's been ten minutes girl." Leehan side eyed you.
"Okay, attitude?" You threw some popcorn at him. You already found that the popcorn had replaced your spot at the end of the couch because you were in the middle now. You stuck your tongue out to the rationed popcorn bowl and turned back to the TV.
30 minutes in and you were already yawning.
"This is boring.." You mutter.
"Tsk tsk. No patience..." Leehan waved his finger in your face.
"LEEHAN THIS IS YOUR 15TH TIME WATCHING THIS. IT CAN'T BE THAT GOOD."
"{Name} This is your first time watching. You can't be this impatient." He grinned, pinching your cheek.
An hour in... you both had finally calmed down and shut up. Leehan was leaning on your chest comfortably. You paused for a moment before you found yourself playing with his hair. Leehan got up to grab a blanket and came right back to you like this was all natural and normal.
"The couch is small so I think it's fine being this close." Leehan said while glancing to the wide space of the couch.
You wrapped yourself around the blanket with him. "Yeah it's so chilly for a summer night. So don't mind if I do."
"Yeah, you're warm." He mumbled.
You pretend you didn't hear that. Or the fact that you guys were wrapped like a burrito.
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
You heard a rooster outside your house, a sign of a new day. You felt refreshed and energized for the morning.
No actually it was just your alarm clock making a whole lot of noise for a 5 am morning.
The couch was oddly comfortable and warm. Suspiciously comfortable. Suspiciously warm. Which was odd because this couch was many things. Lumpy, squeaky, questionably purchased by a guy named 'Big Myung,' but it was not a comfortable couch.
You wiped the drool off your face and tried to get up.
Tried to.
You looked down at the heavy force on you as realization struck. You heard a real rooster outside this time for some reason.
You watched Leehan's eyes flutter open as he froze. He was basically sprawled on top of you. One arm around your waist, and your leg was curled around his back. His face was comfortably tucked into the crook of your neck as you felt his breathing tickle.
"...morning." Leehan whispered with his usual deep tone, unmoving.
You tried to say morning back but you sounded more like a dying kettle.
"We. were like this. the whole night." You whisper, horrified.
"What...?" He replied with the same tone. He shot up. "I- uh- I wasn't- sorry!" He tumbled off of you onto the floor with a thud, his cheeks bright pink.
"It's the couch!" You managed to splutter.
Leehan stared. "The couch."
"Yeah...it traps people. In...positions."
Leehan squinted. "Positions."
"Comfortable ones," You added, immediate regret filling your stomach.
Leehan made a strangled noise and stood up, pacing towards the kitchen like he needed to physically walk away from the embarresment.
"I'm making coffee!" He announced, voice a note higher, too loud. "Do you want coffee? You probably want coffee. You always want coffee. I'll make coffee."
You sat up slowly, rubbing your face. You could feel your heart racing. You kind of missed the weight on your body, it felt empty and cold now.
"Right...coffee's good."
Leehan busied himself with mugs and spoons and absolutely unnecessary levels of clattering.
You watched him, feeling something unfamiliar and terrifying and soft blooming in your chest.
This was fine. Just a weird morning.
Leehan handed you a mug without making eye contact.
You grabbed it quickly, your fingers accidently brushing with his. You both flinched like you had touched a live wire.
"Nice." Leehan said.
"...Nice." You echoed.
You sipped your coffee in silence.
The day moved on but something in the apartment felt...different. You walked in after a long day of lectures and studying, exasperated.
You already found Leehan at the kitchen. You felt your gaze linger for a tad too long.
I mean, you always knew Leehan was handsome but seeing his face now made you...feel things. How his hair fell on his face, his warm eyes, his soft lips, his deep vo-
You heard clattering that distracted your weird train of thought. He was drinking another coffee, stirring it with the kind of focus usually reserved for bomb defusal. His hair was messy and his hoodie was too big, sleeves swallowing his hands.
He looked...soft and warm.
You blinked hard, trying to reset your brain like a robot.
This was Kim Leehan. Your roommate. Your friend. The person who talked to fish like they were coworkers, had the weirdest but funniest laugh you've ever heard, and acted like he was from different dimension.
But now you couldn't stop replaying the mornings event like an annoying song that won't leave your head during the middle of an exam.
You took your shoes off and cleared your throat. "You okay..? You look like you haven't slept in days."
Leehan startled slightly out of his usual zoning out. "Yup! Fine. Great." He started stirring his coffee faster.
"You're also stirring that coffee extremely fast..."
"Mhm...I'm just...thinking." He looked down at the mug, cheeks warming.
"About?"
Leehan didn't answer. He just shrugged, small and shy, and moved to the couch.
The damn couch.
You stared at it like it was a crime scene. Leehan sat on the far end, very far, like he was trying to socially distance from his own furniture. Hi tucked his legs under him and pulled a blanket into his lap, fidgeting with the corner.
You sat down too, leaving a polite, safe, responsible amount of space.
But the space felt wrong. It was chilly. All of a sudden it had felt like the couch became big.
Leehan noticed it too. You could feel his eyes flicking over, then away, then back again.
You wanted to scoot closer but it felt awkward.
You heard Leehan clear his throat. "So... movie tonight?"
You quickly nodded, a little too enthusiastic. "Yeah. If you want."
Leehan's voice softened, a smirk playing at his lips. "I always want."
You felt your heart beat stop for a second.
You guys didn't move closer. But your shoulders relaxed, and the tension in the room eased, like both of them had silently agreed to stop pretending everything was normal.
It wasn't normal.
It was something gentler.
Leehan pulled the blanket a little to the side, to your side, just enough to invite you in.
You noticed. You didn't delay any further and scooted over. Just slightly, letting the edge of the blanket brush your leg.
Leehan didn't look at you, but he was smiling.
The day felt lighter now.
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
The evening settled over the apartment like a warm blanket. Soft light, soft breeze, soft everything. Leehan had just come back to the dorm from the library.
You were scrolling on your phone like a zombie while he watched you from the kitchen.
Not in a creepy way. In a loving way.
You looked peaceful. Leehan wanted to keep you that way.
"Hey," Leehan said softly. You looked up and smiled. "Hey."
Leehan crossed the room and sat down, leaning into your shoulder gently. You felt his hand slowly snake around your waist.
You guys cuddled together, content. You both couldn't wipe the stupid smiles off of your faces.

The next morning, the sea felt wrong.
You sensed it before you even reached the ocean, the air felt heavier, the wind was sharper, the waves were crashing with a strong rhythm that felt almost...angry. You hurried to the rocks to glance down into the water.
He didn't come. No glow, no ripple, no Leehan.
But something else waited for you. A cluster of scales were laid on the sand. Not scattered, but arranged deliberately in a spiral, each one shimmering with a faint blue light. You knelt, fingertips brushing the patterns. The scales were warm, pulsing like tiny heartbeats.
A message. Before you could even decipher it, the water surged violently. A dark shape cut through the waves, powerful, wrong. You stumbled back as a figure rose from the water.
Not Leehan.
This one was taller, broader, with scales darker than storm clouds and eyes like shards of obsidian. His teeth were sharper, his expression colder, and the glow beneath his skin flickered like a warning.
"Tsk...you are the surface girl huh," he said, voice deep and resonant.
Your throat tightened. "Where is Leehan?"
The merman's gaze narrowed. "You speak his name."
"Where is he?" You demanded, louder this time.
He moved closer, water swirling around him with unnatural force. "Leehan has broken our laws. He brought you below. He touched you, he showed you what was forbidden."
Your pulse hammered. "He didn't force me. I chose to go."
"That does not matter," the merman growled. "Your presence in our waters endangers us all. Humans- or whatever you are- bring ruin wherever they tread."
You gave him an angry look. "I'm a mermaid, just like you."
"No- you're clearly a result of a human and a mermaid, a mistake." He pointed out. "You will not return to this place," he said. "You will forget him. If you do not, we will ensure you cannot speak of what you've seen."
A chill ran through your spine. "Are you threatening me?"
"I am warning you."
A sudden splash cut through the tension.
Leehan burst from the water between them, chest heaving, eyes full of anger. "Enough, Taesan."
Taesan's lip curled. "You dare defend her?"
"I dare protect her," Leehan snapped.
You had never heard his voice like that, sharp, commanding, dangerous.
Taesan's gaze flickered between you two, realization dawning. "You care for her."
Leehan didn't answer, he didn't need to.
Taesan's expression hardened. "Then you are more foolish than I thought. Father won't be pleased."
He turned to you, eyes cold. "This is your only warning, surface girl. Stay away from our waters."
With a violent surge, he vanished beneath the waves, leaving the sea rolling in his wake.
You exhaled shakily. "Leehan...what was that?"
Leehan turned to you, guilt and fear warring in his expression. "Taesan is a...a guardian of our borders. If he knows about you, others will too."
"Why does he hate humans so much?"
"Because he has seen what they can do," Leehan said quietly. "And because he knows what it means that I brought you below."
"What does it mean..?"
Leehan hesitated, then reached for your hand, fingers trembling.
"It means," he whispered, "that i've already broken the law for you. And I would do it again. Don't mind Taesan...he just cares about me alot. I'm actually the second prince of the merfolk."
"What? So you're...royalty?"
He gazed back at the water. "I think they are coming. I have to go."
"Wait- Leehan-"
He squeezed your hand once, fiercely. "I'll find a way to keep you safe. Promise."

You didn't sleep.
Every time you closed your eyes, you saw Leehan's face beneath the water, the glow of his skin, the fear in his voice when he said they're coming. And now she knew why.
He wasn't just a merman.
He was Leehan, second son of the Sea King. A prince.
You reached the rocks at dawn, the sky grey and sleepy. The waves were calm, oddly gentle. You clutched your pendant, heart pounding.
"Leehan?" You whispered.
The water stirred, but not with the soft glow she'd come to expect.
A dark shape rose from the depths.
Taesan.
He surfaced with his usual sharp, predatory grace, water streaming off his shoulders. His eyes were darker than yesterday, colder, but there was something else beneath the surface, something like conflict.
"You shouldn't be here," he said.
You forced yourself to look up. "I'm waiting for Leehan."
Taesan's jaw tightened. "You mean my brother."
You blinked. "Your...brother?"
Taesan's expression flickered, just for a moment. "There are six of us. Six princes. Six heirs to the deep. Leehan is the second. I am the first."
Your stomach dropped. You knew he was a prince, but not that he had six brothers and Taesan was one of them. "He didn't tell me."
"He wouldn't," Taesan said. "He's always been reckless. Always chasing currents he shouldn't"
He drifted closer, the water swirling around him like a warning. "And now he's chasing you."
You swallowed. "I didn't ask him to."
"That doesn't matter," Taesan said. "What matters is what it means."
He lifted a hand, "When a prince brings a human beneath the surface," he said, "it is seen as a claim."
You looked at him confused. "A claim..?"
Taesan's eyes locked onto yours, unreadable. "A bond. A choosing. A declaration of intent."
Your heart hammered. "He didn't say anything about that."
"Of course he didn't," He scoffed. "He acts first. Thinks later."
He moved even closer, close enough that you could see the faint shimmer of the black scales along his jaw. "But I think. I see the consequences. And I know what will happen if the others discover you."
Your voice trembled, the air feeling colder all of a sudden. "What will happen?"
Taesan hesitated. For the first time, you saw something like fear in his eyes.
"They'll experiment on you. They will drag you below," he said quietly. "And they will make an example of him."
"No I won't let that happen."
Taesan's gaze softened, barely. "You care for him."
You didn't respond and just crossed your arms.
Taesan groaned, almost as if the truth pained him. "Then listen carefully, surface girl. This is your ultimatum."
The waves crashed behind him. "You won't return to this ocean. You will forget my brother. If you do this, I will protect him from the council. I will tell them it was a misunderstanding."
You stared at him, determined. "And if I refuse?"
Taesan's voice dropped to a whisper. "Then I cannot protect him. And I will not protect you." Silence fell, heavy, suffocating. Then another voice broke it.
"Taesan."
Leehan surfaced behind him, eyes glinting with fury.
Taesan didn't turn. "You're too late, brother."
Leehan swam to your side. Placing himself between you and Taesan.
"You don't speak for me."
"I speak for the kingdom!" Taesan snapped. "And for our family."
"You speak out of jealousy," Leehan hissed, voice low and dangerous.
Taesan's expression cracked, just for a heartbeat, revealing something sharp and wounded beneath.
"This girl," Taesan said, turning his gaze to you, "will destroy you."
Leehan reached for your hand. "She's the only thing keeping me alive."
Taesan's jaw clenched. "Then you've already chosen your fate." He vanished beneath the waves, leaving the water churning violently. You stared at Leehan, heart racing.
"A claim? He's your brother? Is it true?"
Leehan's fingers tightened around yours. "I didn't mean for you to find out like that."
"Then tell me," you whispered. "What does it mean?"
Leehan looked at you, really looked, the glow beneath his skin brightening.
"It means," he said softly, "that I chose you long before I realized I had."
You smiled softly. And somewhere beneath the waves, Taesan watched. Torn between duty, jealousy, and something he refused to name.
"Do you want to come back down to the water?" He grinned as you nodded. The ocean felt different the moment you stepped into it. Warmer, brighter, almost expectant.
Leehan held your hand as the tide rose around you. "You sure?" He asked.
"I want to see your world." You assured.
Leehan's fingers tightened around yours. "Then hold on."
You both dove beneath the surface. Light bloomed around you both as you swam deeper, blues, greens, and shimmering golds swirling like living constellations. You breathed easily, the pendant sitting on your neck pulsing with gentle warmth.
Below them, the Sea Kingdom emerged. A sprawling palace carved from coral and pearl, glowing towers spiraling upward like frozen waves. Schools of luminous fish drifted through archways. Ribbons of seaweed fluttered like banners.
You gasped, amazed. "It's beautiful."
Leehan smiled. "Wait until you meet my brothers."
You paused. "Wait...Leehan, No. They'll kill me if they find out i'm not fully a mermaid..."
He sighed. "Trust me. I will make sure they don't find out you're the surface girl. Taesan seem dangerous but I know he'll keep your secret."
"But what about them sensing my energy?"
"You've been around me long enough for my energy to have rubbed of on you."
Your stomach flipped with excitement, meeting Leehan's brothers? You nodded slowly.

You entered a vast hall where five figures waited, each one powerful, radiant, unmistakably royal.
Taesan. He stood at the front, arms crossed, expression cold. His dark scales shimmered like dark crystals. His eyes flickered to you. Sharp and assessing.
Riwoo. The smallest but calmest, his scales were light pink and bright red ombre. "So this is the surface girl Leehan's been seeing." He acknowledged without even glancing at you.
You gave a shocked look to Leehan. I thought you said they wouldn't know??? Leehan avoided your gaze. Fear engulfed you, what would they do to you?
"Don't worry," He whispered. "We have a hierarchy here. They wouldn't dare defy the second prince. Taesan just...talks to instill fear in people."
Sungho. Tall, calm, with light yellow scales. He bowed politely. "Welcome, {Name}. Few surface dwellers-" He glanced at your unexpected mermaid tail, "or hybrid mermaids see our home."
Woonhak. Broad-shouldered, mischievous, with emerald scales and a laugh that echoed like bubbles. "Leehan bringing home a girl? Never thought I'd see the day."
Jaehyun. Silent, observant, with silver-white scales and eyes that seemed to see straight through you. "She carries old magic," he murmured. "Dangerous magic."
You trembled. "I...didn't know."
Taesan swam forward. "There is much you don't know."
Leehan moved protectively in front of you. "Taesan-"
But Taesan wasn't looking at Leehan. He was looking at you. Taesan circled you slowly, his expression tight with conflict. "You shouldn't be here," he said. "But now that you are... I can see why he risked everything."
Your breath caught. "Taesan-"
His jaw clenched. "Don't misunderstand. I still believe you are dangerous. But..." He hesitated. "...you are not what I expected." He glanced at your mermaid tail.
Leehan stiffened. "Taesan." Taesan ignored him, eyes locked on to you.
"You carry power, curiousity, courage. Traits our kind values."
You felt heat rise in your cheeks. "I'm just trying to understand."
"And that," Taesan said quietly, "is why you are a threat. And why you are...compelling."
Leehan swam forward. "Enough, Taesan." He growled, flashing his fangs.
Taesan swam back, back the damage was done. The tension between the brothers thickened like a storm current. Taesan turned to the others, a smirk playing at his lips now. "The council will not accept her presence. If they learn she is here, they will demand judgement."
Woonhak muttered, "This is bad." Sungho shushed Woonhak.
Taesan faced you again. "You have two choices."
You braced youself.
"Return to the surface. Forget this place. Forget Leehan. If you do, I will protect him from the council."
Leehan growled. "You have no right-"
Taesan raised a hand defiantly. "I am heir. I have every right. We wouldn't want Father to find out." Taesan's voice softened, dangerously so. "Or you remain here. Learn our ways. Learn our laws, learn us."
His gaze lingered on you a moment too long. "But if you stay, you blind yourself to our worlds dangers, politics, and secrets."
Leehan looked at you. "You don't have to choose now."
Taesan's eyes flickered to your joined hands, and something sharp flashed across his face.
"No," He said. "She chooses now."
The hall fell silent. Your heart pounded. Two choices, Two worlds. Two futures. And one choice that would change your life course forever.

𝒯he summons echoed through the palace like a deep, ancient heartbeat.
All the princes stiffened. You felt the water around you tighten, as if the entire kingdom was holding its breath.
Leehan took your hand. "Stay close to me."
Taesan's voice cut through the water. "No. Stay behind me."
You didn't move, you didn't choose. Both brothers noticed.
Leehan frowned slightly as they swam through the long corridor. Coral was glowing, the water was dimming as they descended. The palace above them shimmered brightly. The deeper they went, the colder the water became. Not physically, but in mood.
The currents grew still. The silence thickened. Leehan squeezed your hand. "The council will try to intimidate you. Don't let them."
Taesan rolled his eyes. "They won't need to try."
You looked back at Taesan, annoyed. "I'm not turning back."
Taesan grumbled but his expressio flickered. Admiration and frustration. Leehan glanced at Taesan with an unreadable expression.
"Okay, let's keep moving forward." Leehan pushed the small of your back slightly, moving you away from Taesan.
The chamber opened like a vast underwater cathedral. Six towering thrones carved from obsidian coral circled the room ominously. Each oone glowing faintly with runes older than any human civilization.
The council members were already there, glaring down at you with a mysterious, unsettling coldness. Their scales muted with age but their eyes bright with authority.
You felt a chill down your spine. One of them leaned forward.
"Bring the human forward."
Leehan moved instantly. "She stands with me."
Taesan moved just as quickly. "She stands under my protection." He shot a look at Leehan. Leehan furrowed his eyebrows but didn't respond.
The council murmured chirpily and curiously, a ripple of interest.
You glanced at both of them before sighing. "I stand for myself."
The murmurs stopped.
Leehan smirked slightly. "Atta girl."
A councilor with silver-black scales spoke first. "Hyrbid girl, or more like human girl, Why have you come to our realm?"
You lifted your chin defiantly. "Because I want to understand it, and find out more about my mermaid side."
"Curiosity," another councilor hissed. "A dangerous trait."
A third leaned closer. "And what of Prince Leehan? What is he to you?"
Your heart pounded. You felt Leehan tense beside you, looking at you with big eyes, full of eager anticipation. You also felt Taesan watching you, too closely.
"I...care about him. Deeply." You said.
The water stirred sharply, a reaction from the council, from the princes, and from Taesan most of all.
"And Prince Taesan?" A councilor asked, eyes narrowing. "Do you care for him as well?"
You froze as Leehan gave you a a look, slowly drooping next to you. Taesan's jaw tightened. The council waited.
"I..." You began, but the words tangled in your throat.
Taesan stepped forward, voice low and steady. "She owes you no answer."
Leehan snapped, "You don't speak for her."
Taesan turned to him. "And you don't own her."
Leehan sighed, irritated, before looking at you with the most dissapointed, heartbroken expression ever. He looked as if he were about to cry.
The eldest councilor raised a hand, silencing the room.
"Human. You have entered our realm. You have breathed our waters. You have touched two princes' fates."
Your pulse hammered.
"By our laws, this demands judgement."
Leehan moved in front of you. "Judge me, I brought her here. I came up from the sea multiple times, blame me not her."
Taesan moved beside him. "If she is judged, so am I. I also came out of the water to talk to a human when it is prohibited. I gave her the ultimatum."
You and Leehan stared at Taesan, shocked. He didn't look back.
The council's eyes gleamed.
"Very well," the eldest clapped. "The girl will undergo the Trial of Currents."
Leehan's face drained of colour. "No. Absolutely not."
Taesan expression darkened. "You cannot be serious."
"The trail will determine her fate," the councilor countinued. "And yours."
You forced your voice to stay steady. "What is the Trial of Currents?"
The eldest councilor smiled, a slow, merciless smile. "Well..let's just say it's the test that decides whether you belong to the sea..."
A pause.
"...or are claimed by it."
The water around you turned cold. What does that possibly entail?? Why is it so hard to just be a mermaid!
Leehan grabbed your hand. "I won't let them do this."
Taesan stepped closer, voice low. "You won't face it alone."
You internally panicked.
The council chamber emptied slowly, currents swirling with tension long after the elders departed. You felt the weight of their verdict pressing into your lungs.
The Trial of Currents.
A test that supposedly could claim your life...or kill you.
Leehan guided you out of the chamber, his hand warm around yours.
"You were brave," he murmured. "Braver than anyone I've ever seen."
You tried to smile. "I was terrified."
"I know," he said, brushing a strand of her from your cheek. "That's why it meant something."
His touch lingered, gentle, reverent, as if you were something fragile and precious. You leaned into him without thinking, letting the warmth of his presence settle your heartbeat.
"Can you guys stop? This is serious, y'know." Taesan shouted from behind them. You frowned.
"So bitter..." You mumbled.
"Oh yeah, you didn't respond to the council when they asked if you cared about me?" He grinned.
"I just froze, that's all." You snapped.
All Taesan did was continue walking, he didn't respond. You felt Leehan's gaze on you. Why had you not responded?
𓂃 𓈒𓏸
Leehan's led her to a seclude alcove of glowing coral, where the water shimmered in soft blues and golds. It felt like a hidden sanctuary carved just for you two.
"You don't have to be strong right now," he said softly. "Not with me."
You exhaled shakily. "I don't know how to face I trial I don't understand."
Leehan took both her hands in his, his forehead brushing hers. "Then I'll teach you."
Your heart fluttered. "You can't promise that."
"I can," he said, eyes glowing brighter. "And I do."
You felt the truth in his words. His thumb traces slow circles against her palm, the way he looked at her like he couldn't survive without her.
"Leehan..." you breathed.
He smiled, soft, shy, a little helpless. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't be this close."
Before you could respond, a sudden shift in the water snapped them apart. A deep, resonant pulse that vibrated through the palace walls.
Leehan's expression changed instantly.
The water darkened as a massive figure approached, surrounded by armored guards. His presence filled the hall like a tidal wave.
The Sea King.
His scales were deep purple streaked with deep obsidian. His eyes glowing like stormlight, his voice rolled through the water like thunder.
"Leehan. Step forward."
The King Zico's gaze shifted to you.
"So. The human."
You felt the pressure of his power like a hand around your throat. Damn could you catch a break around here...?
"You breathe our waters," he said. "You stand among my sons. You distrupt the balance of the deep with your odd hybrid presence."
"I didn't mean to disrupt anything." You replied.
"Intent is irrelevant," the King said. "The sea answers only to truth."
His eyes flicked to Leehan. "And the truth is that my son has risked our kingdom for you."
Leehan stepped forward. "Father-"
"Silence" He hissed. The word cracked like a whip. "If you fail the Trial of Currents...you will feel the true wrath of the ocean."
The water around him pulsed once, a warning and then he vanished into the depths, leaving the hall trembling in his wake.
