Today is Transgender Day of Visibility, normally leading up to this day there is celebrations and events, but due to covid-19 those things were cancelled or postponed. Today, I find myself feeling mixed feelings, I have had a rough couple of years battling with the medical system, private health insurance, etc to simply be acknowledged as human and treated with respect. #Visibility is SO IMPORTANT!! But more than that needs to occur, we need #education, #inclusivepractices, #lessbarriers for Transgender and Gender Diverse Individuals. YES CELEBRATE VISIBILITY! IT IS SO IMPORTANT! IT BRINGS JOY TO MY HEART!! But when #TDOV is over keep supporting all your TGD friends and family as they battle a societal system that still makes activities that cis-het people take for granted - like getting a haircut, seeing a doctor or joining a sports team - a challenge to navigate and sometimes quite negative and traumatizing. So in light of TDOV here are some photos of me from over the years, expressing my gender in a way that makes me feel 'whole' and happy. Today I am reminding myself of how far I have come, how many negative expectations and negative teachings, from both secular society and church, I have had to strip off my being. How I have had to deconstruct and then reconstruct my faith. How I have had the strength to get to where I am today. I am clinging to the fact that I am made in the image of God, fearfully and wonderfully made; a trans non-binary human whom God created and loves to the very core of who I am. God has been, is, and always will be with me in my transition and in my life as a trans human. To my TGD siblings, I see you, you are valid and loved.
