“I’ve saved Eren’s life again and again.
And each time… so many of my comrades have died…
I did it... because I believed he was the hope for humanity's survival.
And this... this is where that belief has gotten me.
It’s almost like... one big, awful joke.
That hope we all had our eyes on... what was it, really?
Those struggles to the death....have gotten us this farce?
Give me a break. Well, I’m not laughing.”

CAPTAIN LEVI
“I don’t know…I never have. I can believe in my own abilities, or the choices of companions I trust, but no one ever knows how it will turn out.So, choose for yourself whichever decision you’ll regret the least.”
The lesson Levi tries to teach is so valuable and realistic.
In this moment, Eren doesn’t fully grasp what Levi is trying to tell him. Eren decides to trust the team because they trust him and it works out well at first. Later when the female titan returns, Levi squad tells Eren to trust them. Eren lets them go thinking he’s made the right choice. However, it’s only then that Eren truly understands what Levi was trying to say. It’s not necessarily about right or wrong or even how much you trust the others. The bitter truth of reality is that anything can happen. When making decisions you need to take that into consideration. Are you willing to live with the consequences of your decisions if the worst happens?
Yet another of the many reasons I love Levi.
