Uncharted Territory
Harbor
NOUN har·bor \ ˈhär-bər \
1 : a place of security and comfort : refuge
VERB har·bor \ ˈhär-bər \
1 : to have in mind a thought or feeling, usually over a long period of time
Things have been a bit of a whirlwind lately (#understatement) and I have found myself well outside of my comfort zone (where life begins, right?)
July started off snail-slow. I took a long holiday weekend and just stayed home—which was really kind of nice: My partner and I hiked every day. I organized a few drawers, a few closets. I updated my resume. I took stock of my intentions for the year.
And then I got bored.
There are times for stillness and times for movement. But some things, at home and at work, had been feeling stuck for a long minute and I wanted motion.
Change and variety provide momentum and keep us on our toes. I crave that.
If you’ve seen any of the posts over the last month, from buying a house and moving to the annual trip to the pacific coast quickly followed by the family trip to a lakehouse, you may be laughing to yourself and wondering if I’ve had enough change and variety lately.
The changes and motion this summer have been good--but they’ve also felt bigger than I had imagined they would. As things have started to slow down, they’ve left me feeling unexpectedly unmoored.
It reminds me of the time I decided to rearrange my home office.
I tore everything apart and moved all my furniture just to realize that the outlet I intended to use was not wired for internet (nor could the cord reach the original outlet). I found myself in a disorienting puzzle of books and shelves and wires that I had to fit back together somehow.
We make changes to fix something, but sometimes the changes we make end up illuminating (and/or creating) other challenges. (#growthopportunities)
Changes can also—so I’m finding—illuminate pieces of ourselves that have always been part of us but were, most recently, dormant.
In this weird change-state I’m in, I now find myself craving normalcy. Or something akin to normalcy that I don’t quite have the words for yet. I’m in uncharted territory--uncharted for me, at least, and I’m not sure quite what this next stage is going to hold.
Things, given a little planning and a little grace, have a way of working out just fine, though. The best approach I can take, I think, is approaching each moment (new and strange alike) with a mix of curiosity and appreciation.
Moving, part 1
Through the life I live, and the words I write, I wish to rescue many from the untimely death of not fully LIVING! #lifeisaverb

Life is a Verb - Part 1
Life is a verb. It is meant to be lived. It is meant to be full of action. Conscious action. Life is meant to be created; every step from the first division, until the final joining. All of it is created, mapped, programmed individually, specifically for, by and always with, you. You create life when you live it. By living you are acting, by acting, you are performing a very well rehearsed dance with the universe. A dance that has been choreographed for you by someone who loves you more than anything else. By someone who knows you much better than you currently know yourself, and has paid attention to the minutest of details about you so that your life could be created perfectly for you. So who was it that loved you enough to labor that intensely? You. You created that life with the help of another very important player in your ever increasing and expanding view of what life truly is. So who was that? I am sure you've already guessed. It is who/what connects every single life on our planet, in our solar system, in our galaxy, in our universe, in all other universes, with any and everything that does, could, or ever has lived in any function of the word. This being, force, presence is what many have called God, the Creator, Source, Your Highest Self, along with many other titles. All of these terms are words trying to describe the same thing. The truth of the matter, is that all matter is ultimately composed, directed and acted out by what you could call a single organism. You are just as much a part of the Universe, God, the Creator, etc. as your cells are a part of you. Your cells, your atoms, make up who you are just as you and every single other living entity make up what God is.
