Everything Happens For A Reason (Kara Shepard/James Vega)
Here is the finished commission for @lightfiends of her lovely Kara Shepard and James Vega! I’m honored that you wanted me to write for Kara again. :D She is fun and absolutely adorable.
The pictures on the wall were almost daunting. After all of the plans she’d made for the tattoo, now that she was here in the shop, Kara Shepard wasn’t entirely sure if she was ready. Pulling her fiery hair out of her face, she secured it with a rubberband, strands falling into her face. She ignored them. Flipping through the enormous art book on her lap, she sighed when nothing caught her eye. This was going to be harder than she thought. As if life wasn’t already difficult for the famous Commander Shepard. Something as simple as picking a tattoo design was going to trip her up.
The war against the Reapers had progressed farther than she’d expected. The sentient machines had begun to land on alien planets. The destruction wasn’t easy to curb. Even now, turians were trying to save Palaven with the help of the krogan. Kara still hadn’t heard any news of Earth except for the fact that the resistance was putting up one hell of a battle. She needed to win this, after everything, she had to.
Her heart ached for Earth, for Anderson, for the men and women who weren’t going to make it. If the Council had heeded her warnings about the Reapers in the beginning, this war might not have even happened…
The door to the tattoo shop opened a few minutes later, the little bell dangling above clanging as the top of the door hit it. She caught sight of James Vega entering, grinning as he waved at the man behind the counter. He’d recently been accepted into the N7 program, an honor for any soldier. She hadn’t expected his entry into the program to mean as much as it did to her. Professionally, she was proud of him. He was an amazing soldier who had worked hard and gave everything he had. He was strong, brave, one hell of lieutenant. Personally, well that was a completely different story.
James had worked closely with her when she’d been grounded in Vancouver. She’d developed more than a little crush during that time. Now that they were back on the Normandy, and she was technically his boss, it made things difficult. But her feelings hadn’t changed for him. Apparently, neither had his.

Rescue (Adeline Forbes/Charley Shepard)
Here is some FemShep/Sole Survivor in an AU starring @lightfiends‘s Sole Survivor, Adeline, and my FemShep, Charley. For the purposes of this fic, Charley is a BoS Knight that was sent on a Paladin Danse retrieving mission.
Enjoy some OC Kisses!
Charley Shepard squinted her eyes against the setting sun. The rays were nearly blinding and, with the Glowing Sea to the South, all the light made it hard for her to keep watch. The soldiers she commanded were sleeping in an abandoned shack they’d stumbled upon earlier that afternoon. They had needed the rest. She hadn’t been kind to them lately. Hours of trudging through mud and radiation had made a few nearly collapse.
Popping the gum in her mouth, she shaded her eyes with her hand and stared into the dead forest surrounding the shack. There hadn’t been any recent movement and in Charley’s experience, that was always a sign that danger was incoming. The Commonwealth was never quiet for long.
Adjusting the rifle in her hands, Charley peered into the scope, searching for any sign of trouble. She wanted trouble. She excelled at fixing it.
Or maybe she just liked killing things.
With a grumpy sigh, Charley slung the rifle over her shoulder. The search for Paladin Danse and his team had turned up nothing. She wasn’t the praying type, but she truly hoped he hadn’t bitten it. He was one of the only Paladins she could stand.
Bored and irritated, she turned to have one of the soldiers relieve her when a piercing scream cut air. Charley armed herself with the rifle, her boots hitting the ground at steady pace, attempting to locate the source of the sound. What she found made her pause, something that wasn’t liable to happen often.
A woman, possibly around her own age, had tripped over some exposed roots, the knee of her jumpsuit torn and bloody. Her russet hair was knotted, twigs and leaves tangled in the strands. Her pale cheeks were flushed from running or fighting, although neither mattered at the moment. A feral was approaching, it’s snarls echoing in the otherwise silent evening. The pistol the woman had been carrying was too far to reach.
Unhooking the knife from her belt, Charley put herself between the woman and the feral. Then she plunged the blade into the creature’s skull, immediately ending it’s sorry excuse for a life. Once assessing that the area was clear, she wiped the grey matter from the weapon and put it in her belt. Then she turned.
The woman had retrieved her gun, checking to make sure it wasn’t damaged in the fall. Then her dark eyes met Charley’s. It was then that the soldier recognized the blue jumpsuit. The woman in front of her was a vault dweller.
“Lady, what the hell were you thinking? Going up against a feral like that? You could have been killed!” Charley wanted to go off on her, but the woman had just given her a sweet smile.
“Adeline.”
“Excuse me?”
“My name is Adeline.” The brunette pulled a twig from her hair before making a disgusted face and dropping it to the ground. “I appreciate your help, but I have to be going.”
Charley’s jaw would have dropped had she not been trained to expect the unexpected. “Leave? Look- you’re injured. The knee should at least be looked at.”
“I can take care of it myself. I assure you.” Adeline holstered her gun and shook the rest of her hair to loosen the debris. “I have something I’ve got to do and I can’t get sidetracked. Besides, you don’t even know me. Why do you care what happens to me?”
Biting the inside of her cheek, it took everything in Charley not to throw the girl over her shoulder and carry her back to the shack, no matter how much she screamed. But she was right. Charley had a mission too, something more important than tending to a vault dweller’s minor wounds. With a heavy sigh, the soldier pulled her knife from her belt before handing it to Adeline, grip first.
Adeline raised an eyebrow at the motion.
“Take it. If you’re going to be running through these woods, alone, the least you could do is not attract attention with a gunshot. The knife will make for quieter kills.”
Adeline smiled, grateful for the gift. She took the blade and placed it beside her pistol, secure against her hip. “Thank you.” Before Charley could object, the woman pressed a soft kiss to her freckled cheek. “For helping when you didn’t have to.”
Charley nodded, unable to speak. She watched as the young woman waved before hurrying off towards the dirt path she’d been following earlier. The bright yellow ‘111’ on the jumpsuit stared at her even as Adeline got farther away. It wasn’t her job to find out about this woman, but dammit, Charley was intrigued.
