I’ve always headcanoned Lighthouse Gem as a Topaz of some kind... I was thinking about it again recently and this fell out haha

Bismuth’s tattooing powers are directly inspired by that one excellent comic by moesartblog (which I think got nuked and I don’t know if they’d want me to @ their new blog bc they don’t seem to draw SU anymore?)

personally i really like the idea of the lighthouse gem having some sort of close bond with ronaldo because he's probably the only living thing she's seen so often for years, it's cute ;;

Omg I can just imagine the lighthouse gem mentally adopting whoever inhabits the lighthouse, inadvertently putting out Good Vibes(TM) that make the inhabitants feel even more welcome. As the resident weirdo of Beach City, that seems like something Ronaldo would appreciate.

I wanted to touch on this in my prior post on the subject but I had to go to work, so follow up thought re: the whole idea of Blue Diamond taking the role of Maleficent in The Answer’s “Sleeping Beauty” vibe.

So, ignoring what Disney did in the adaptation Maleficent and just looking at the original movie, Maleficent does not pick a fight with Philip and Aurora initially due to anything that’s actually their fault. She challenges the King and Queen- Aurora’s parents- because they refused to invite her to the christening, basically insulting her honor. And then, in a rather villainous fashion, she proceeds to overreact violently to this slight.

“Someone who overreacts violently to perceived wrongs against them” is a trait shared prominently by Blue Diamond, Lapis, and the Lighthouse Gem. 

Blue Diamond promising execution for Ruby fusing with Sapphire, which she takes as a personal insult: “with a member of my court.”

Lapis’s first dialogue to anyone besides Steven is accusing the Crystal Gems of imprisoning her, refusing to help her, and ignoring her plight. She rapidly follows this up by hitting them with a giant water hand. 

Arguably, a lot more could be said about Lapis as this is actively discussed and a fair part of her character arc at this point seems to be her realizing and acknowledging this trait: her tendency to play judge, jury, and executioner in one fell swoop without considering her judgments might be wrong and people, even people who are unpleasant or who have legitimately hurt her- might not deserve her undying enmity.

And then Lighthouse Gem, who, seemingly reacting to a combination of Lars carving his name into the wall and Lars’ abandonment of Ronaldo, held a grudge for years and manipulated Ronaldo into trying to kill him.

(We also see, from Sapphire in Keystone Motel, and Aquamarine in Stuck Together, that this is not some kind of archetypal blue gem trait, either- both of them are faced with wrongdoing against them and both, without outside incentive or prompting, take the stance that the best thing to do is drop the issue)

I made another gemsona, her name green topaz and I modeled her after the lighthouse gem. I’m pretty sure the lighthouse gem is a topaz. She comes from the same beta kindergarten as Aventurine and she is shorter than the average topaz. She is still big though.

Im not a fan of Ronaldo as a character but i am interested to see what new future predictions his new upcoming episode throws up

He's a shit conspiracy theorist but i've suggested in the past that his prolonged exposure to the Lighthouse Gem granted him subconscious knowledge about the Gems and Homeworld.

Either that or he's genuinely some kind of prophet and Sneeple will one day make an appearence

Lighthouse Gem

Buddy’s Book shows that the lighthouse wasn’t there when Buddy was drawing stuff. Which makes sense, humans had only just colonised the area and why would Gems need a lighthouse?

However the Gems either helped build it or the humans who built it really thought it needed a window in the shape of Rose’s gem. I kind of suspect the Gems helped because it’s the only building on top of their temple, which seems to me like someone explained to them what lighthouses were for and they were in favour (especially since ships will steer away from lighthouses).

So, the Gem in there can’t have been there for more than two hundred years.

Where was she before? And why put her in a wall? If the Crystal Gems wanted to contain her they’d have used bubbles. Did humans defeat her and shove her in a wall? Did a corrupted Gem for some reason put her in a wall?

The only thing I’m certain of, really, is that it wasn’t Rose, because we’ve seen with Bismuth what Rose does with Gems she wants to contain without her allies knowing. She’d have no reason to make them part of a structure, especially one used by humans.

Just rewatched Horror Club and remembered why I still like Lars, he’s a dick but he does regret doing what he did.

Also drew a thing, I wanted it to just be Lars but then I started thinking about what would happen if him and Ronaldo kept fighting, would the escalating hatred power the lighthouse gem and its scarecrows up or make it want Lars more? I think about corrupted gems and magic of SU more than I should because I know my questions will never be answered, like what would happen if those shards were left to meld with the Frybo suit for longer.

yeah! it also makes sense as to why ronaldo wasn't intensely freaking out in horror club like he does whenever he comes in contact with something else gem-related such as the hand ship: he was used to the "ghost" in the lighthouse and had been for some time! that being said, i do wonder if he misses her

Dude, I hope we get an episode about this at some point! Honestly, Ronaldo is in desperate need of some positive character development, and I imagine the one place he felt accepted in suddenly feeling…normal would affect him deeply.

On another note, I think it’s really messed up how his dad plays favorites, putting pressure on Peedee to be the better, more responsible sibling while he’s still just a kid (probably even younger than Steven), while constantly putting Ronaldo down and completely disregarding his special interests. Like, yes Ronaldo’s obsessions can get in the way of real-world important things like running a business and getting an income, but he’s also Fryman’s son, yet he’s treated like the family disappointment.

Anyways, I’m sympathetic to almost every character on SU and absolutely want them to grow.
