Linda Sarsour’s ‘Jesus was Palestinian’ comment ignores Jewish history

Sarsour’s attempt to embrace a Palestinian nationalist Jesus is part of a larger milieu of cultural appropriation of the history of Jesus.

Excellent refutation of Linda Sarsour’s clear bigotry in falsely claiming that Jesus was a Palestinian. Also, Bishop Talbot Swan’s ridiculous Tweet, in which he claimed that Abraham and Moses were black, along with Jesus, ought to be criticised for deliberately Americanizing Jewish and Christian history to suit his ideas.

Support for American Jews

As I understand, American Jews are feeling under siege. On the one hand, we have seen a number of horrifying anti-Semitic attacks: smashed synagogues, Jews being beaten in the streets, and the Tree of Life massacre. 

On the other hand, elected Representatives continue to spread their poisonous anti-Israel drivel with impunity. This completely shatters the lie spread by leaders of the Women’s March (among others) that the Jews are “privileged” and, in the words of Tamika Mallory, “control all the wealth.” 

Not a single wealthy Jew has been able to stop this outpouring of hatred. Not a single middle-class/working-class/poor Jew has been able to escape this hatred. Accusing the Jews of controlling the wealth implies that the Jews are responsible for hostility and violence towards them. This is blaming the victim, something we are repeatedly told must never be done-- and rightly so. 

But according to the new status quo, particularly from the so-called “woke” movement, Jews are not victims and neither is Israel. 

I hope American Jews will continue to confront the likes of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar and hold her to the same standards as everyone else. In the time she has been elected, I have heard more of her views on Israel than the terrorism and violence against women that is rampant in her original homeland, Somalia. The moral hypocrisy is outstanding. 

As for Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, I note with irony that she has a far greater chance of being elected in democracies like America and Israel than she does under Palestinian Authority. Instead, she chooses to erase the only Jewish State off her map to replace it with one that never existed and has been repeatedly refused as a proposition by the Arabic peoples. 

This display of anti-Semitism is more insiduous, given a range of convenient excuses: 1)- I have such and such an identity, 2)- Anti-Zionism isn’t anti-Semitism, 3)- I’m a Semite as well!, 4)- The Jews have privilege, 5)- (Insert “woke” excuse here). Unfortunately, some Jews refuse to confront these excuses masquerading as arguments for the sake of political correctness. 

All of these excuses must be thoroughly refuted. 1)- Your identity does not make you more righteous than anyone else, and doesn’t give you a pass for bigotry. 2)- Anti-Zionism specifically opposes Jewish national self-determination based on distortions and lies. It is anti-Semitic in intent and effect. 3)- Anti-Semitism means hatred towards Jews. There is already a term for anti-Arabic bigotry etc. Those who oppose the term anti-Semite again only target Jews, implying that they do not recognise any such category as specific hatred against Jews. 4)- Jewish privilege magically can’t seem to stop synagogues from being attacked, Jews from being assaulted or killed, graveyards from being defaced, and Israeli’s being murdered by Palestinian “victims of occupation”. 

Nobody gets a pass on bigotry. Using past and present persecution as an excuse for bigotry towards others is nothing more than hypocrisy, cowardice, and pseudo-intellectualism. Period. No bigotry is acceptable.
