A massive explosion involving a gas line has sparked two large fires in northern Minnesota. The emergency is ongoing west of Willow River, about 50 miles southwest of Duluth. Carlton County Fire News captured footage of two fires a distance apart.

NOW IS THE TIME TO STOP PIPELINE 3
I haven’t seen any mention of this on tumblr yet and it breaks my heart. Tribal nations, community and environmental groups in Minnesota have fought for six years to stop Canadian oil giant Enbridge Energy from building the massive Line 3 pipeline in Northern Minnesota, to take oil from Canada’s tar sands region to Superior, Wisconsin.
Pipeline 3 will have the Co2 equivalent of 15 new coal-fired power plants. Please stand strong against the law-free oil pipeline, which seeks to keep us tethered to destructive fossil fuel practices at the expense of the land, the sacred, and the livability of the future.
The Obvious Threats:
-Oil spills
-habitat destruction
-harm to indigenous livelihood
-climate damage
Its carbon footprint would exceed the entire state of Minnesota’s and, like Keystone XL, would extend the economic viability of the ultra-polluting crude oil source in a way that one expert famously called “game over for the climate.” All pipelines spill. It's a question of when not if.
Line 3 violates treaty rights by endangering critical cultural resources like sacred wild rice. Line 3 will cross 227 bodies of water including the Mississippi river twice and multiple state parks and national forests.
Pipeline construction also means bringing thousands of out-of-state workers into rural communities. These settlements are called man camps and they lead to missing and murdered indigenous women. Pipelines directly correlates to violence against indigenous women, girls, and relatives. Native women are murdered at 10 times the national rate; 1 out 2 Native women will be raped in her lifetime(based on REPORTED statistics), and 3 out of 5 physically assaulted. Even worse, 96% of the perpetrators are non-native and cannot be prosecuted by tribal governments. approving this landline it's literally inviting violence into Indigenous spaces.
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
- take the pledge of resistance
- donate directly to the front lines
- donate to Honor the Earth
- write to Biden to stop Line 3
- follow and listen to indigenous leadership

Pipe(line)
The attack on ICWA is an arm by big oil to attack tribal sovereignty (a major argument from tribes to stop things like line 3).

I'd link the post but migraine

#Line3 would be a disaster for life on our planet, all the way from the pipeline's source to its destination. Here's why.
At the source of Line 3 is the tar sands extraction industry in Alberta, Canada. Here, Canadian oil workers clear-cut ancient forests to get at the oil tar beneath. These forests are one of the best carbon sinks on the planet - but when they're gone, they're gone.
Once the trees are gone, all of the life-sustaining topsoil is then scraped off of the ground. Without it, nothing will grow here again. Beneath that soil is bitumen, what @Enbridge wants - the most impure form of oil on this Earth.
Bitumen is so impure that it needs to be mixed with many toxic chemicals to even get the tar out of it, thus creating massive pools of toxic liquids called tailing ponds. The ponds are so toxic that strobe lights and sound cannons need to be used to keep birds away.
Leaving the destroyed earth of northern Alberta behind, the diluted bitumen is sent through the Line 3 oil pipeline that goes south into North Dakota, crosses Minnesota, and eventually arrives in Superior, Wisconsin. But the journey is far from painless.
Since 2002, @Enbridge has reported 307 hazardous liquid incidents in its operations. On average, that's one toxic spill every 20 days, totaling 66,059 barrels of hazardous liquids. How many more spills can the land take before it's irreparably poisoned?
As a matter of fact, the old Line 3 was responsible for the largest inland oil spill in US history, back in 1991 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. The existing #Line3 has already caused dozens of oil spills on treaty land. A bigger pipeline will just spill more.
And when construction is finished on the new Line 3, @Enbridge wants to abandon the old Line 3 to corrode away in the ground. Contaminants from the pipe will likely make their way into the soil, the water, and eventually all life in the surrounding area.
This tar, marked by ecocide at every point of its journey, eventually arrives in Superior, Wisconsin. From here, some of it will be shipped south towards Chicago, and some will go east towards Michigan. The Michigan-bound oil will eventually travel through the Great Lakes.
And if the pipeline in the Great Lakes ruptures (which pipelines always do eventually - especially old and corroded pipelines such as that one), it will contaminate the source of 84% of the fresh water on this continent. That’s water we depend on to drink. /end ID]
I am 20 years old, Two-Spirit, street medic organizer for an Indigenous street medic collective. I was among the arrested during ceremony at the Red Lake Treaty camp.
On Friday July 23rd I was in sacred ceremony and peaceful prayer with many others on treaty land as protected by our Article 6 and 1st amendment rights. Ceremony started at dawn, and by noon riot police had surrounded those in prayer on all sides. I saw no riot, I saw no disturbance of peace, what I saw was water protectors from all walks of life and from all over coming together to pray for our Mother Earth, for the water, for the future of all of the Creators creatures. Despite this, I watched as law enforcement violently grabbed and detained those dear to my heart and then eventually myself as well. We sat in jail for 4 days, many of us denied medical treatment, medication, changes of clothes, and menstrual products. During and after my arrest I was suffering from heat exhaustion, as well as complications from being denied my medication for nearly two days. For two days I was violently ill, unable to keep even water in my stomach without vomiting. I attempted to explain that with my pre-existing health conditions as well as heat exhaustion that I needed to be taken to a hospital or be seen by medical professionals. I had my basic vitals taken, was given some tums, which I was later made to pay for, and told to lay down and drink water. Police showed a blatant disregard for constitutional law, human life, and Mother Earth, a disregard that will not stop with reform, not with new laws or optional standards. The police are in Enbridge’s pocket too. It will not stop until police are abolished and Enbridge stops violating the land, water, and people. Today it is us, tomorrow it will be you. Will you stand by and watch?
If you feel called to, please consider donating to my G*F*ndM* so I can continue doing work to protect our waters and Mother Earth
