WIP Wednesday Sentences
From my May 21st post here, Lingering Shadow and Obstruction for @phantom-z0ne, thanks!
Lingering Shadow:
There is a price and a balance for everything, Kage told him gently, none of my actions do I regret. Do not grieve them for my sake. ‟I would you were still. . .” Yoshitsune trailed off, faltering.
Obstruction:
And the sounds echoing from the open warehouse below were growing more chaotic, which could mean his little one was fucking around instead of striking quickly, but could also mean. . . Perhaps Kei should get back to him. Sho was quicker than any other mortal creature Kei had seen, and had learned well from Kei, but he was also entirely too prone to showy displays and got himself into trouble with it all too often.

That this cannot be me? Yoshitsune’s aching grief and confusion echoed hollow within him, and Kage gentled. I swore to stay by your side; I wished only to do so, Kage reminded, recklessly pouring a little more energy into the connection he had sunk his very self into forging. Think you I am so easily trifled with? Yoshitsune laughed at that, a small soothe for Kage’s heart. The ache of Yoshitsune’s battered heart and mind still seeped through Kage’s spirit, but naught would mend that but time - what could be mended at all.

A tremor of shock, cold like starlight, then the sharp heat of need, and Yoshitsune’s desperation would have been a bruising clasp, had Kage still inhabited a form to which Yoshitsune could so cling. ‟Kage!” Yoshitsune’s voice cracked, and he dragged in a sharp breath, lowering his voice. ‟Kage? It. . . It cannot. . .” Kage laughed again, feeling a gentler warmth suffuse his being. Affection; fondness for this strange creature who had claimed his fascination and more, his devotion. Impossibility you would claim? Kage whispered into Yoshitsune’s mind, and wrapped himself closer in what attempt he could offer of comfort.

I promised to devour you, he thought, wry but not reluctant; that path was closed to them now, but Kage was not one to linger over what was no longer possible. As he had chosen to follow Yoshitsune with his life, no matter where it brought him, and as he had chosen his death for Yoshitsune’s sake, now he chose to keep Yoshitsune’s side, even in this new form - remnant - for so long as he could. A shiver of pain curled through all that was left of Kage as he felt Yoshitsune’s wail at discovering his death. That was a regret. Yoshitsune was impossibly strong - his spirit, not only his body - but he was already bowed beneath the wretched weight of grief. Kage reached out, shaping his mind with a shiver like a soft croon as he slipped alongside Yoshitsune’s own.
