Todd spends the rest of his life loving fearlessly and shamelessly. He gives his time, care and comfort to anyone who needs it - and especially those who don't show that they need it. He's hyper-aware of all that is felt and all that is and isn't shared. He's aware that there is not enough love and care in the world, so he does his best to give and give and give and give all the leaking love that's been built up and breaking to the brim for years. Because someone put it there, and he's not there anymore to give it to.
But, when he sees someone really truly appreciate Todd's help, it's /almost/ enough to make him forget everything else.
Todd knows there's not enough love shown to people anymore. He needs it too.
But in this case, where he can't receive it for himself, he makes up for it by giving of himself.
