sooooo excited to post this excerpt from my upcoming fic for the @superbatlanewinterflashbang!!

my team's prompt was polyamory negotiation, so i decided to explore how a relationship between lois and bruce would grow after sharing clark as their partner: lois and bruce's first time having sex without clark.

Morning announces itself with the sliver of sunlight peeking through their curtains and directly on Lois’ closed eyes. With a quiet groan, she buries her face into Clark’s neck, hiding from the disturbance. His back is warm and solid against her chest, and she seeks out more of him, slinging a leg over his thigh and pulling him close.

It’s a familiar movement, one she’s done in and out of her sleep a million times that Clark always melts into with a happy noise when he’s awake enough to. A good position for grinding too, which Lois does lazily, rolling her hips against his ass, chasing the pleasure as she wakes up slowly.

Clark makes a very un-Clark sound of surprise.

Lois opens one eye. Huh. “You’re not Clark.”

“No,” Bruce agrees, and his voice sounds rough with sleep, though she can’t see his face to confirm since she’s spooning him. “He got called away.”

It’s not as if Lois doesn’t remember going to bed with him—they’d had an eventful night—but Clark had been firmly in the middle when she’d fallen asleep with Bruce on his other side, a wordless arrangement the three of them hadn’t deviated from since these threesomes-turned-sleepovers started—until now.

Without Clark there, though, it seems that the two of them had closed the gap he’d left, both more in the middle of the bed than the sides they’d retired on. Spooning.

“Huh,” Lois says, out loud this time as her brain catches up. “Sorry for humping you.”

“I didn’t mind.” Shifting neither closer or further away, he makes another sound that she feels through her hand still placed on his chest, but she can’t tell if it’s a huff of embarrassment or a simple clearing of his throat.

But, after another few moments, he still doesn’t make to pull away. She wonders if it’s an invitation. In the still quiet, she breathes in his scent. Clark always smells a little bit like the sky, but Bruce is all earth—smelling of sweat and musk and expensive shampoo from where her nose hovers at the back of his neck. It could just be her typical morning horniness, but it only makes her want him more.

Fuck it.

“So, do you want to…?” She finishes her question with another roll of her hips. Just once. Pauses. She’s never had to seduce a man who was already in her bed before. His back is still turned to her, and without being able to read his face or his silence, she falters on her next course of action.

The faltering, at least, doesn’t seem to be hers alone. “I…” Bruce trails off, too, and then: “You don’t want to wait for Clark?”

my version of pre-cloisbat is established clois who are in their mid to late 40s and mid-late 20s bruce having a massive puppy crush on both of them. like he’s just sooo down bad for them, its crazy. he does all their interviews w them, he answers most of their questions, n always tries to talk to them whenever he sees them at an event he’s also attending. it’s sooo obvious that their his fav reporters that ppl in the daily planet tease clois abt it. meanwhile every reporter in gotham (actually gotham city as a whole) is SEETHING w rage bc why WHYYYY does bruce wayne have such a preference for not only one but TWO people from metropolis.

clois don’t really take bruce seriously tbh and think he’s just playing. they’re not interested in a third and even if they were, a ditzy himbo billionaire w a gazillion kids would be last in their choices. i fear they would be kinda dismissed of bruce n like a lil mean, in a way? but anyways, at some point they kinda mess up n hurt bruce’s feelings bad that he tries to move on from them and kinda falls back into bad behaviors.

mostly thought abt this bc i’ve been thinking up a scene where bruce is being flirty n getting felt up by other ppl and clois is just watching from a distance. they’re filled w jealousy bc why are these ppl touching up their boy like he belongs to them?? but he’s not really their boy bc they pushed him away. this moment makes them realize their feelings n they have a long talk at home on what it means and what they’re gonna do abt it

anyways this au has a happy ending w a bruce sandwich hehe (gotham and batfam keep quiet but internally they do not approve LOLL)

clois don’t got kids in this btw since they wanted to be child free which also pushed them to think they don’t want to get w bruce bc of the kids he has lol.

Clark is with Lois

Superman is with Batman.

They're in that arrangement for a while because Bruce has difficulties with communication and doesn't want to admit he wouldn't mind becoming an official threesome on the civilian side.

Lois likes Bruce but isn't fully comfortable around his Batman half. Also she isn't certain how to negotiate moving Superman and Batman to Clark and Bruce.

Just interesting relationship dynamics and relationship negotiation.

Oooooo I like that quite a bit! Honestly this would be a wonderful set up to build a loisbat relationship when we have an established superbat and clois in the background. The two people in Clark's life who start off insecure and slightly jealous of each other until they get to know each other better and decide that hey, they really like this person! And then they have feelings about it while Clark just vibes.

Damn you Clark you have two baddies save some for the rest of us!

Lois having some chemistry with Bruce Wayne (and him being genuinely into that) (too bad we cant mix and match) but ultimately not liking the whole of him is so juicy on terms of possibilities. Like imagine an AU where Lois and Bruce know each other before Clark comes into the picture, and they flirted with being more, she knows he's Batman, but they get too much tunnel vision to really be a couple (and I always thought she just didnt want the stress that he could die any night). And then Clark has his romance with Lois and his 💖vibes💖 with Batman, and once he learns Bruce and Batman are one and the same, he realizes how much those two do actually lean on each other (Lois consulting with Bruce, Bruce passing over justice hard-hitters of publishable info).

All this because I read a post of yours where Lois actively asks for Bruce to be there when she delivers her baby. Like.

My question is- how much are these three able to circle each other before they realize everyone has 2 hands? Like whats the maximun level of slow burn angst we coumd squeeze out of them?

I love anything to do with all three of them but truly I want to see an AU where they DO try to mix and match. With disastrous results. Because while Lois likes those parts of them, they’re never fully themselves with her. But you know they can be their full selves with? Especially poor Clark — in that universe, Lois didn’t care for Clark Kent at all. It must be hard to only be the Superhero for her. And conversely, while Bruce is Bruce Wayne for her, Batman is such an integral part of him — denying it would be like cutting off an arm.

Idk I just imagine them going out for dinner/drinks after/before their little thing with Lois and slowly bonding over it. Like they start as friends, and realize they CAN share their full selves with each other. Bruce doesn’t hate Clark Kent, and Clark understands Batman more than he knows. And then slowly, things with Lois cool off more and more and they start meeting up just the two of them….

(I love Lois and she deserves as many threesomes as she wants, but I also love the tragic love triangle of the two of them trying and it still not being enough, mixing and matching. You know?)
