I'm trying something new to help Petey with her fear of loud noises. Every time a loud boom occurs, she runs to me. I hold her and tell her it's okay, but she's still scared. Today, I started giving her a small, healthy dog treat every time a loud noise occurs. I'm trying positive reinforcement, and it's working very well. Now, she runs to me, but she doesn't look as scared. She awaits her treat and sits down happily, munching on it. She's barking at the noises and eating treats instead of cowering and looking terrified. She's acting like she is looking forward to another big boom so she can get another treat!! I should've done this years ago. If your pet is scared of loud noises, I suggest that you try doing what I'm doing with Petey today. It's made things better for her so I'm happier, too!! It's almost time to put her Thundercoat on and give her some melatonin. Together, we'll get through this, and we'll be fine!! 😁😍🐕❤️

On Looking Confident

Most of my life growing up, I didn't feel particularly confident about how I looked, nor did I feel very confident about my ability to relate to or interact with other people.  I also would look at other people, and I would often, usually feel that most people looked very confident most of the time.  They seemed confident socially, whereas I only felt confident with my intellectual abilities but not as much with social things.

Confidence is such a weird thing...our perceptions of the confidence of other people can be really off-base sometimes, perhaps because there can be a pressure for people to outwardly look confident.

One of the things that I really like to share with people, both on this blog, and in life, is when they look or seem confident, either about their appearance, or about something deeper.

I think this can be important because I think that when you realize that other people perceive you as confident, it can help you to feel more confident (regardless of whether or not you actually feel that way deep down).  In the case that you don't really feel confident, I think it can be a little bit of a "fake it till you make it" kind of thing, which is not the same as putting up a front, I think, because the intention of the one thing is to push through with the intention of becoming genuinely confident, whereas the intention of the other case is hiding things.  So like...I think when people tell me that I seem confident and inside I don't feel that way, it helps steer me in the "fake it till I make it" direction, instead of the "keep it all inside until I explode / become numb" thing...which is not somewhere I ever want myself or others to be.

So I don't know if everyone perceives it this way, but I just wanted to share some of my reasoning...why I really like sharing with people when I think they look confident, even if it's just a little thing, like how they are looking direct, or their posture, or something like that.
